    NC shrimp

We had a very nice dinner here. They have a great outdoor patio that is dog friendly and the vibe is upscale. My beet salad had a lovely yogurt dressing and fresh herbs. My NC shrimp dish was fine but nothing memorable. My husband's pork was ok but a bit chewy. The collard greens were good but a tad spicey. The service was great- our waitress was helpful and the food came out quickly.

Had dinner with a friend here recently, reservations are necessary most nights. I was ahead of my friend a minute or two and was seated promptly walking in, the place was already busy. My friend arrived shortly and our server appeared within moments of that. Water bottle in hand was served with our menus and a couple short glasses. The interior is open, country casual. Tables well spaced out, with seating also at the bar. Braised Octopus and the Pimento Cheese and Toast appetizers. The pimento with pickled veggies and toasted sour dough was quite good, freshly made and a great shareable plate. The braised octopus well presented and cooked nicely, solid flavors and textures with charred cucumber and cherry tomatoes with pistachios, again more than enough to share with an interesting mediterrean twist. I opted for the Heirloom tomato salad and it was simply delicious, maybe my favorite of the night? For my entree, the Monkfish filet, wrapped in Benton's country Ham sliced paper thin, and cooked beautifully. Served with roasted leeks, braised white beans, arugula over an almond romesco and a chile vinaigrette. Simply delicious. The R&R Banana pudding was also a cool twist on a classic dessert, with the coconut jalepeno sorbet. The only tick for me was the wine. At a certain price point the bottle should NOT be a screw top period. I ordered their top price point Pinot Noir from Austrailia, at $76 bucks, it was a screw top. This was a complete wow moment when it was presented at the table, the wine was okay maybe even good but the whole "unscrewing the cap" made the whole getting a nice bottle of wine for the evening to go with a nice dinner like a let down. I even said something to our server, she played it off but it was obvious it effected the experience. Dinner with a tip north of $300. 4 Stars worth a visit and recommended 01021

This was by far the best dinner experience I had during a visit to Roanoke! The restaurant is cozy with an open kitchen, the staff were incredible, and the food was absolutely amazing. For appetizers we had the oysters, beet salad, and jar of pickles. The chow chow on the oysters was SO good, I was actually hesitant to try raw oysters for the first time but they ended up being a highlight of the meal. The beet salad was also delicious as well as the jar of pickles if you enjoy super vinegary things like I do. For entrees we had the sea bass and steak tenderloin. Can't even lie- one of the best steaks I've ever tried. It was perfectly cooked and so flavorful. Even the side veggies were incredible. The sea bass was also perfectly crispy and the sauce on it was so tasty as well. With everything being so amazing of course we had to try dessert too. We ordered the banana pudding and the chocolate panna cotta. The banana pudding is not traditional at all but if you like unique flavor combinations this is definitely one to try. The coconut jalapeño sorbet is like nothing I've ever tried before, and loved the cornbread crumbs too. The panna cotta was so rich, chocolatey, and delicious, and could definitely be shared between two people as it was a pretty large portion. The whole evening was a 10/10 and I would highly recommend!

Ribs, mash potatoes and Brussels Chicken and veggies.

Wife and myself had dinner here in PM. Atmosphere was nice very comfortable and waitress was very nice and helpful with menus. Wife had chicken and veggies, I had short ribs and mash potatoes with Brussels sprouts. All was great, hot and tasted wonderful. Both had dessert. Home made sorbet and brown auger cake. Delicious. Recommend getting reservations. Very crowded. Highly recommend this restaurant. $100.

Best meal I've had in years and I'm someone who travels and eats at a lot of great places. My partner and I had some delicious cocktails (great bourbon selection) and enjoyed the Peking Duck and Hanger Steak for dinner. Both cooked to perfection and the accompanying vegetables were good enough to have been a meal on their own. Capped it all off with their famous Banana Pudding which is not like grandmas but is even better!! A jalapeno infused ice cream on top of a toasted cornbread crumble on top of a banana pudding custard was just pure perfection. All with an upscale casual environment and great playlist (if you're a Gen Xer). Can't wait to come back to Roanoke to visit so I can try this spot again.

Absolutely delicious food and wonderful service. So happy the hubs got us a reservation here, I'll definitely be recommending it to others

After having been selected as number 4 of Yelp's Top 50 most prolific Elites of 2025, a year when I also was awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Photographer of the Year Award at their Yelpies 2025 Award Ceremony, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, and where last year I was awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Yelper of the Year Award, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to return to those special ones, that have made a difference in my life and highlight them, for the benefit of the public, so they too can have an opportunity to appreciate the qualities of a one-of-a-kind fine dining experience. And Bernard's Gastropub & Eatery in Downtown Roanoke, is a perfect example. Bernard's was born out of the love of two culinary aficionados turned professionals that in someway have managed to create a restaurant with an environment that transmits this intimate love to the hearts of their customers through the attention to detail in its extraordinary customer service and amazing culinary masterpieces. Today, I felt like dining at this restaurant, which I admire for its consistency in always far exceeding my high expectations of what a fine-dining restaurant should be all about. Not knowing if they would have a table for me at this late time on a Saturday early evening, I drove in my pearl white Lexus to the nearest private parking lot and gave them a call to inquire as if they could give me a reservation for the next ten minutes. A gentleman, who later I found out was named Matthew, and would be my server, answered the phone with a very polite and welcoming voice; answering my question of what was the special dish of the day and to come on down, that my reservation was assured. As soon as I arrived to the small, very elegant foyer in front of the Host's station, he came out to greet me and instantly recognized who I was. My only request was that he give me a low table because at my age seating at a high table was a bit uncomfortable. He went back to see what he could find and ended setting me up with what I consider one of the best tables of the house, and I was so appreciative of his last minute accommodation. The menu was already setup on my table. He poured water from a special bottle into my water glass and asked if I wanted something else to drink. I asked for a Mocktail and since he also was a bartender, he prepared me one of the best mocktails I've ever had. To dine, I started out with their Mussels Carbonara appetizer, which came in a bacon parmesan cream sauce that was simply amazing, and served with toast points. As my main entrée I had the Dinner Special of the Night, the Seafood Trio. It had a delicious, giant size crab cake in the middle, scallops, and shrimps, with parmesan risotto sautéed heirloom tomato, spinach, and nice size asparagus, with a burre blanc sauce. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review to get a better sense of the high-quality of their food and magnificent ambiance of the place. Everything was so delicious that only one word could ever describe them: priceless! For dessert I had their very famous Butterscotch Banana Pudding, which the chef makes at the moment ordered. It looked spectacular and tasted amazingly delicious: a culinary work of art. What a great way for the Gran Finale of an extraordinary dining experience!

The portions are very small so if you're pretty hungry would not recommend. I got the chicken and shrimp with collard greens and macaroni salad (wanted Mac n cheese but they were out which was a true disappointment). The chicken had a nice exterior but boy did it need seasoning. Same goes for the macaroni salad it was just noodles with some paprika on top. The fried shrimp was actually pretty delicious which saved the meals unfortunately there was only 3 shrimps and a little piece of the fried chicken. The collard greens were okay. The sweet tea could've been sweeter in my opinion as well. Overall left hungry but service was good. Just needed some seasoning for my taste.

So much you could say about The Hatch and that it's popular for seafood. The menu was simple and limited. We arrived around 5:30pm on a brisk March 2026 Friday early evening. We found parking nearby and walked to the restaurant after over feeding the meter. We probably spent about an hour here before we paid for the bill and left the downtown Roanoke area. On this day, I decided to pay for myself and my friend, since he was celebrating his birthday. My friend and I spent about an hour here and it was a nice venue to have dinner with friends. My friend got the fried chicken thing with sides, whereas I got the ultimate po'boy sandwich with a side of fries. It seems like The Hatch tries to elevate Cajun / Southern food with familiar flavors and dishes in a more modern and lavish setting. For the price and perceived value I gotten from my meal, it was generally okay. I have had po'boys that was a tad cheaper but had more proteins stuffed into the sandwich. It was delicious and definitely nice to have after a day of touristing in Roanoke. The prices seem reasonable here in hindsight and the staff here was friendly and helpful. If you enjoy Soul food and Cajun cuisine with flair, consider coming to The Hatch in downtown Roanoke, if you're in the area. We happened to get here without minimal waiting for a table, which was a good thing. Definitely worth coming to check out if you're in the mood for something different than your usual burgers and fries or tacos. The overall experience here at The Hatch restaurant in downtown Roanoke, Virginia was decidedly good yet decent too. The ambiance was typical and quiet. My friend and i were sitting in the quieter side of the restaurant, which was nice and we had a nice conversation while waiting for our meals to arrive. It was comfortable and definitely air-conditioned. Not sure if they had Wi-Fi but I did not need it anyway. The restaurant itself was very decorative and clean. The meal I had was delicious and definitely. It was served with a smile from the server. I enjoyed every bit of the restaurant itself because it was a nice and quiet dinner and it was here in Roanoke. A quiet town in Virginia that is away from the hustle and bustle of Richmond and Washington DC, but has his own flare. Maybe it could've told something better than a po'boy or had other entrée at the time, but I decided to have that po'boy sandwich with weird version of French fries. It was an OK place to be although the mail was delicious regardless. I could recommend coming here, if you're really hungry, but I probably wouldn't come here again. If my future travels permit me too, though. Don't get me wrong, it is a good place, but it's not for me. Check it out, though, you may like it. The Hatch restaurant is located in downtown Roanoke, Virginia. They are situated physically at 32 Market Square SE in a busy downtown section. They accept major credit cards as well as cash. As far as parking goes, my friend used a paid parking lot that was a short walk away from the restaurant. He inadvertently overpaid for the time allotted but we got the time in that we wanted. There may be other spots in the downtown area but it may not be free. Decide what's best for you and head on over to The Hatch Roanoke. If you're like me and love public transportation, you can consider the Star Line Trolley that travels from the third street bus terminal. Other than that, you'll need to travel to the third street bus terminal from your point of origin. And of course, there is always uber and lyft to get you here comfortably and conveniently, if you decide to take that route. However you get here, you can come and enjoy. The Hatch seems like they're a casual eatery in downtown Roanoke. They try to be upscale with southern creole cuisine. It is a nice place to dine, of course. Check it out for yourselves. This place might be the hidden gem that you're dying to try in the heart of Roanoke. I liked it but it could have been a bit more better. 4.0 stars for the overall experience. Support local! B

As a DoorDash VIP customer, I pulled up Due South BBQ in their app and as I did so I still could remember the amazing taste of their BBQ food from when I visited them for the very first time on January 28, 2025 with a good friend of mine and gave them a 5 Star review. I decided to order the Big Slop which included a Jumbo Pulled Pork Sandwich with three sides and three hushpuppies. As my three sides I chose Mac & Cheese, Coleslaw, and Fried Okra. And for the two sauces I picked the Sweet Red and the Alabama White. I submitted my order with my DoorDasher tip included and waited for the delivery. Not long after the order arrived at the estimated time with a friendly DoorDasher who delivered it intact and still hot. It came inside one of those ordinary plastic bags with the words Thank you on it, with the receipt attached. I opened the bag in my kitchen and the food came in two see-through plastic containers. One with all the food and a small separate one with the bun on the side as I had asked for. Everything looked so fresh and delicious. Including the three cylindrical shaped hushpuppies. I got one of my plastic forks and placed some of the pulled pork on the bun with the sweet red sauce and still had some pork left to eat with the other items which were served in generous portions. Everything was amazingly delicious. Rare are the restaurants that can deliver their food and it arrive in a similar state as in the restaurant. Although I still prefer eating at the restaurant for its warm and cozy ambiance. Once again I highly recommend this BBQ restaurant and I'm sure that if you try it out the food will win you over and their amazing service will make you want to return back for more.

That restaurant was and continues to be the iconic Texas Tavern, located in the heart of Downtown Roanoke. This morning I drove my pearl white Lexus up to it and parked in front of the sidewalk at the parallel parking with a one-hour limit. There is so much history behind this place that the excitement of the moment made the breakfast experience more momentous. Once inside, a young gentleman who has been working there for over two years now greeted me and immediately made me feel at home. Every one of the three eggs were perfectly fried over easy and I sprinkled a salt and pepper mixture over them. The bread of the toast was so fresh and tasty braised in butter. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review to get a better sense of the place and the high-quality of their food. I'm looking forward to returning one day at lunch time to taste some of their menu items of which they are known for. Starting with their Cheesy Western, the tavern legendary trademark burger served with a fried egg, cheese, pickles, and a sweet-and-tangy homemade cabbage relish. Or maybe a bowl of their secret-recipe chili served with onions. Or their trademark hot dog served Coney Island-style with chili, relish, mustard, and unions. All comfort food that make you feel good and bring a sense of nostalgia, warmth, and satisfaction. I highly recommend this small, historic, eatery for a one-of-a-kind, memorable, dining experience. One that you'll cherish and hold dear forever.

Until that one day that you decided to stop, and explore a whole new culinary world. After having been selected as number 4 of the Top 50 most prolific Elites of 2025, a year when I also was awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Photographer of the Year Award at the Yelpies 2025 Award Ceremony, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, and where last year I was awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Yelper of the Year Award, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to uncover those found in hidden paths that for one reason or another have not reached the public in its totality. And Coach & Four Restaurant, in Roanoke Virginia is a perfect example. At first it was just a large colonial house turned restaurant on Williamson Road in Roanoke, Virginia. But once I decided to stop and explore it, it has become one of my favorite restaurants in Roanoke, Virginia. Its uniqueness lies not only in its colonial atmosphere and in its classic American cuisine, but primarily in its amazing staff that from the time you walk in begin to make your fine-dining experience one that you'll always remember and cherish dearly. Their refined behavior creates a relaxed yet sophisticated atmosphere that create unforgettable dining experiences. Today, after having gone through one of the worst snow and ice storms in years, I decided to not allow the icy roads to hold me back, and requested a Lyft to take me there for dinner. As soon as I arrived, the friendly host came out to greet me and take me to a table of my choice. My server from the first time I dined there, happened to recognize me and took me to the booth where I had dined the first time I ever dined there. We discussed a Mocktail for me to drink and she came back with an amazing drink, and a small meatball as an "amuse-bouche," designed to prepare ones palate for the meal. After studying the restaurant's extensive menu, I ordered their Bacon Wrapped Scallops as appetizer. For my main entrée I ordered the Prime Rib Combination that consisted of a generous portion of roasted prime rib served with a delicious lobster tail. For the two sides that came with my main entree, I had their famous tossed salad with their in-house made blue cheese dressing and a loaded baked potato. The scallops were not so big in size but big in flavor and texture. The salad was amazing, as always. The main entrée looked well at first, but when I cut into the prime rib it was too well done to be able to appreciate the flavor of the meat. But my server came by, as promised, to see if the prime rib was cooked to my satisfaction, and when I told her it was too well done for my original request of medium-rare, she gracefully apologized and took it back. Returning shortly with another piece of prime rib more to my liking. For dessert I had a slice of Pecan Pie a la mode, which by the way was amazingly delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant for one of the best fine-dining experiences of your life. And am looking forward to returning and ordering ahead of time their Baked Alaska to have for dessert.

They appeared to be Senior Citizens and one had handicap issues, and the funny part was, I don't think they even heard him, even though he was yelling. What was a decent meal turned into an uneasy situation.
