The Roast Office is a delightful little spot in downtown Pinehurst. They have a unique (albeit small) menu with a few local treats and gift items for sale. I had to ask 3 times if my drink had milk in it which makes me vomit. They said no. My stomach was upset so I asked a third time for them to show me an ingredients list and there was milk. You should know the ingredients of food items you serve, or go check to be sure. Do not make assumptions about ingredients that could affect someone's health. Went walking around 6am to check out the beautiful village, and walked into this place. There are a ton of books, with nothing over $5.00, and a really nice coffee shop. Spent a good hour relaxing and talking with a local guy, who was retired, and he gave me some good tips about the Pinehurst village. Love this area, and all the shops were very nice. I have been here several times. As a local this is great stop in for coffee, reading, or studying. The staff is very friendly and down to earth. This place has great coffee and is basically the only decent coffee shop in the area. However, walked in and all the inside tables were taken -- except for one. It had a "reserved" sign on it. I know they don't take reservations so I was surprised. Then heard someone ask the barista about the table. He said they had reserved it for some of their regulars who always come in at 1. It was almost 1:30 and the table was still empty. Didn't stay to see if anyone ever showed up but to leave a prime table like that "reserved" because one of your regulars might show up struck me as being bad business especially since there were at least two other groups of people around needing a table. I know this is the South and personal relationships matter but, please, put a head on your shoulders and act like a real business instead of a down home hole-in-a- wall that favors the local "regulars" above your other customers. read more

I have yet to try a warm drink here. The curried chicken salad on a toasted hamburger bun and the side salad is one of the best chicken salads ever! I love that the chicken salad meal is served on little baking trays. It's such a great idea. I definitly want to find a recipe that tastes like this chicken salad, so I can always have it at home. I would definitely come here every weekend before going horseback riding if I could. I also love the large used bookstore, which also has a great selection of genres. The prices for the cafe and bookstore are very reasonable. I also love the chalkboard quote signs they put out. read more

Had a lovely write up in the local paper with great looking picture of sandwiches but we we're sorely disappointed when we had lunch. Service was slow while staff were visiting loudly among themselves. For $20.00 we got two mini sodas and pathetic BLT's on cold toast that crumbled when you picked it up with over cooked broken pieces of equally cold bacon and a small piece of wilted lettuce accompanied by a mushy slice of tomato on one half of the sandwich. The guacamole was tasteless. Amazed that food related to Elliott's was so lacking in quality. Won't be back, there's too many fabulous restaurants of all genres available in the area that actually want our business. read more
