The Roost offers fairly standard fare in a bar restaurant type atmosphere. We met friends here for dinner on Friday night, since there was a band playing that we were interested in seeing. Beware, that when there is a band, it is very loud throughout the entire restaurant. There is outdoor seating though. We ordered a pizza and Chicken Francese. Both were acceptable. The pizza was a bit burned around the edges, but I wasn't expecting much. Our server, however, was the star. She was super personable, efficient and constantly had a smile on her face. Something you don't always see with wait staff. As a side note, I had made a reservation, which they could not find. Was excited to try this one. Took my daughter for her first Mother's Day. The service was friendly. Not very busy so was surprised it took 35 minutes to get any food. Appetizers ( pot stickers and fried string beans). They were good. Soups had definitely been microwaved. The bowl was so hot and the soup was so hot was hard to eat, but the carrot soup was good. When dinner came, we had an extremely bad outer of fish from my husband's scallop plate. The first one he tried was slimy, but sometimes that happens, the second scallop he tried had a horrible taste of ammonia so he spit it out and asked the waitress for a different meal. She was very understanding and accommodating, and he ordered something else. My daughter's chicken was burnt. It was just all over not a good experience. The Roost was recommended to us by some good friends and we decided to make the 25 minute drive to meet them there for dinner on a weeknight. The restaurant is located on a golf course and is open to the public. They have a fairly large indoor space with a bar and also an outdoor patio situated right on the edge of the green. We chose to eat out on the patio although it was a bit chilly. They did have outdoor heaters which made it comfortable enough for us to enjoy the pleasant setting while dining. The menu has a lot of great variety of options for just about every taste including salads, appetizers, entrees and sandwiches. I was also impressed with the decent selection of local NJ and PA craft beers on draft and a pretty adequate selection of wines and specialty cocktails. They also boasted daily special themed weekly specials such as $5 margaritas on Tuesdays and half price wine bottles and specialty pizzas on Wednesday as well as live music on the weekends. First we started by ordering a few appetizers. We selected Cajun steak bites, bang-bang shrimp, spinach and artichoke dip, and Thai chili wings. I would probably skip the shrimp as they were just crispy breaded shrimp and not the traditional bang-bang sauce we were expecting. The others apps were all equally delicious. As we happened to be there on Wednesday so decided to order a pizza. They had some odd choices such as mac and cheese pizza, cheeseburger pizza, and others. We chose the vodka rigatoni pizza. We also ordered a flounder sandwich and our friends ordered the fish tacos which they thoroughly enjoyed as well as open faced turkey reuben but requested it made closed which they accommodated. The flounder sandwich was delicious but the PIZZA stole the show. The pizza was much bigger than I expected and could easily feed 3-4 people. It was cooked to perfection with a NY style crispy thin crust, perfect amount of delectable sauce, and delicious toppings. We even brought half the pie home and it was just as good reheated the next day. All I can say is that the Roost was a pleasant surprise and a hidden gem especially if you love great pizza, appetizers, and craft beer. We are local and have been several times, have recommended friends. My husband and I went last week for dinner. It was a good night to sit outside so we did. We shared a Cobb salad which we both thought was delicious. My husband had a cheeseburger and I had a special on the menu, a Shrimp Poboy. It was very good. The only suggestion that I have for the sandwich was to add pickles. While I liked the Aoli that came with it, I thought that pickles would add a hint of vinegar to the dish, which would add another flavor profile and lend authenticity, but otherwise I liked it. I've had dinner at the Roost a couple of times now after playing a round of golf at Cream Ridge. There is a lot of potential here and with some fine tuning, this could be a great experience. On the Wednesday and Thursday nights that we've been here, this place has been poppin as seen by the live music and packed bar. We were able to grab a booth both times without a wait which was nice. My buddy and I ordered wings the first time around. They were not very crispy and drenched in sauce. Now, I love sauce but this felt like they were drowning out the lack of quality wing. The second time I ordered the Jersey Burger medium rare. It came out medium well and was served on a oversized Kaiser roll. For a $17 burger, I was expecting more. I was so hungry, that I wolfed it down anyway. I mentioned to our server that the burger was overcooked and she was apologetic and even offered to replace it which I thought was nice. In a case like this, I think it would have been nice if they took a few bucks off the bill but I guess I'm living in the past. We sat for about 10-15 minutes before anyone acknowledged us but once our server arrived, she advised that they were extremely busy and short staffed. I'm sure I will continue to eat here as we play golf here pretty regularly but hope that they can tighten the screws to make it a better experience. read more

Snarky Bartender! Went today (Monday) around 5pm. Sat at the bar for a good 5 minutes before the female bartender stopped polishing her wine glasses, with her back to the entire bar the whole time , before she turned around to notice her new customers at the bar and regulars with empty drinks. While trying to figure out what flavors of Surfside were available, the female bartender was unable to differentiate between my husband's right (which is where he was looking and pointing) and her right. It was actually very concerning and frustrating only to be topped by her snarky attitude by saying "perfect" when we decided it was too difficult of a task for her to figure out. So she stormed away with an attitude without even asking if I then wanted any type of drink or if my husband wanted something else to drink or order any food. No alternate suggestions were made and her storming off was a clear indication for her interest in serving us. So we left. She couldn't be bothered with taking our order. She literally just abandoned her customers and did so in such a rude manner that left such a bad taste in our mouths that we will not be returning anytime soon to a place that was one of our local favorites. A nice and pleasant young lady (tall blonde) was our host who greeted us as we walked in. -The BBQ chicken pizza was great and packed with flavor. This would be the go-To pizza even though our sever had no clue what it was made with and didn't even bother on bringing the ranch sauce that was meant to be served with the pizza, it was a good surprise. -The burger pizza was "ok" not bad but nothing to rave about after tasting the BBQ pizza. The effort was there but it just didn't do it for me. Main reason for only getting 3 stars was due to the service. Our server "C" (respectfully not giving her name) looked miserable to be working. This girl showed her lack of interest to actually think that if she actually made an effort and had a better attitude it would reflect on her "tip earned". "C" as we will call her failed to know the basic menu and had no intention or interest in asking her peers to better inform us, nevertheless we ordered our meal. The Roost is a fun restaurant near a golf course in Cream Ridge NJ. We have been here twice to see some bands and it's always a treat- REALLY extensive menu- 12 appetizers, 5 entree salads, 22 sandwiches and 10 entrees. The food has been consistent and the drinks are delicious. Tough part is the service- they simply don't have enough staff. We are seeing this is many of our favorite restaurants and know that the loss of one or two servers changes the perception of quick turnaround. Me and two friends went last Friday night for Holiday drinks and something to eat. First time there for all of us. To our dismay staff was rude. Plenty of open tables. We sat and sat no service. Stood up tried to get bartender's attention to no avail. Three seats were opened at the the bar so we moved to bar stools. People across the bar came in after us and already revived drinks. No one came to us and said they we busy. Horrible service. We were treated like we had the plague. We weren't one of the good old boys.
