Tony is the best bartender! The cooks gave us the wrong order and he immediately caught it and gave us the right one and let us keep the other one. We planned on just eating the first and not asking to take it back. He was amazing and on top of it. All of the bartenders worked like a well oiled machine. Food was delivered fast. We go to The Roost frequently - they have a menu full of many different options, even for people with dietary restrictions. My sister (an extremely picky eater) loves it that, an another friend with celiac disease can find lots of safe, gluten-free options. The back patio is a great place to sit - as is the rooftop area (when it is open). It's generally busy, so reservations are definitely recommended. And it can get pretty noisy. The inside is all wood and hard surfaces, which does a great job of magnifying the noise from the surrounding tables. So if you are with someone who is hard of hearing, you might not want to go at the busiest times. Must-try dishes include the bangin' cauliflower, fried brussels sprouts, ahi poke nachos, thai pork tacos, avocado salad, and the poke rice bowl. I've never had anything there that I didn't enjoy. And they have a great drink menu as well, with many interesting cocktails. You should definitely give it a try! read more

Would definitely re-order. Chose tots on the side. * Shishito peppers - not The Roost's fault, but sometimes you get that one shishito that is just too spicy and it ruins so taste in your mouth. It definitely happened (around my 4th pepper). Otherwise, they were well blistered and seasoned with salt and lime. * Katsu curry fries (Japanese curry seasoning, Ponzu sauce, cilantro & scallion) tried with sweet potato fries. WOW. This was the show stopper. The Japanese curry seasoning with ponzu sauce was umami and tangy and a little sweet. What a perfect combination. * Tomato basil soup (roasted tomato, garlic, basil & coconut milk). Despite the coconut milk, the soup was watery, and so incredibly peppery. Hated it. The jalapeño marg, true to name, was very jalapeño-y. Would not get again. The Aperol Spritz was orangey and fresh. The best drink was the painkiller (Local Spirit Hound whisky barrel aged rum, pineapple, orange, coconut, fresh nutmeg), creamy and the pineapple coconut and rum combination is a winner. read more

Steak frites were not the appetizer I was expecting. LIke, $20 for three pieces of mediocre steak and ok fries. Blah. Service was abysmal. Waitress disappeared from sight for 15 minutes or more between water and our drink order. Couple that with the snooty atmosphere and pretentious attitude and you'll feel right at home in California. We had a very special dinner celebrating family last Saturday night. I was pleased with the black and blue pasta entrée, the beef was tender and the blue cheese cream sauce was superb. I really enjoyed my meal. Oh, not to forget to mention the blood orange margarita, it was smooth, and I had two! My children ordered a roost burger with fries and a corn cob salad with grilled steak. Both were pleased with their selections. We plan to return soon for another great meal. The only drawback I can mention is the restaurant was very noisy. You read that right !The Birthday girl barely made it to the table from the parking lot . Food was good but the real difference in this restaurant & a few others i have been to in Longmont was the friendly service and attitude of the servers . Lots of young employees working together to create a happy atmosphere . Birthday girl got a free dessert - carrot cake & ice cream ! We walked in and were very happy with the greetings of staff. And the atmosphere looks great. Food also looked amazing. My wife and I were both disappointed. I ordered steak on a pile of fries. The fries had millions flavors mixed together. Way to much garlic. It was a mess and I couldn't eat them. The steak was cooked perfectly but there was the seasoning of the fries and a white sauce that prevented me from tasting the steak. My wife had a sandwich that was good but had way to many competing flavors. Desert was a really good brownie with ice cream. Sometimes lest is more. I really enjoyed the ambiance at The Roost, and the food was just a notch below that. The restaurant is decorated very modern, and the best part is their rooftop patio. The weather was perfect and sunny, and our waitress even put down the sun shade for us when it got too hot. There is a bar upstairs which would be nice for an after-work drink. Because we came at an odd hour on a weekday the place was mostly empty and service was great. Most items on the menu are locally sourced. We started with the Beef Totchos. This is a huge saving of crispy tater tots topped with grass-fed ground beef, chipotle queso, guacamole, and pico. The beef was a bit overcooked and dry. The best parts were the tots and the chipotle queso. I basically filled up on this starter alone. My entree was the Roost Burger. This is a fresh beef patty topped with applewood smoked bacon, melted white cheddar, crispy onion straws, house pickles, garlic aioli & BBQ sauce on a Brioche bun. The patty needed more seasoning and it was a tad overcooked, but overall I enjoyed it. The side Caesar salad was limp and the croutons were soggy. So many elevated bar food places in Longmont and I don't drink beer or like hamburgers... What's a girl to do? Well, in the past I've gone to every type of ethnic food Longmont's had to offer, but this time I decided to follow the Yelp review stars to see what the fuss was about. Our personable and enthusiastic server suggested the tempura cauliflower and mentioned that it was featured on "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives." I've had many incarnations of this dish, but this was by far the best. The creamy sriacha sauce made it quite spicy, but it was the right amount of spice. And it was curiously not soggy at all. Best dish of the night. From there I had the Thai curry noodle entree. 3 stars for this dish. It needed some aromatics and herbs and got a bit monotonous. I wish tofu was an option. The husband tried the California burger with an Impossible Burger patty. We weren't sure if it was official Impossible Burger since it wasn't trademarked on the menu, but the server confirmed that it was. It tasted pretty burger-like. Of course that said, as previously mentioned I'm not into burgers. (I know you must think by now that we're both vegans but we're not. I just try to eat healthy when I can.) Hubby chose a side of tomato basil soup, and unfortunately for him he had one bite and didn't want any more because it was too garlicky. Fortunately for me I thought it was pretty perfect and devoured the whole thing. It was a little creamy which I mention because cream wasn't mentioned on the menu. We finished our meal with the carrot cake. There was so much potential there but it needs some changes. First of all, it had great caramel sauce and pecan pralines, and the cake is fine. However, there is no need for frosting. It made the dish way too sweet. The ice cream is okay but it would be improved by some small batch creamery real vanilla ice cream with flecks of vanilla bean. Also, the cake should arrive warm so it can melt the ice cream when you take bites together. Sadly, one side of our cake was room temperature and the other side - next to the very warm caramel sauce - was warm. read more

We came in for a celebration dinner and loved both the food and service! The place is warm and welcoming, as well as queer friendly. The hostesses were very friendly and attentive and Shania seated us quickly and at a table we were pleased with. Our server, Andrew, was very attentive and kind. He checked with the bar staff on a drink modification I was curious about to and also up-sold us on a dessert that was honestly one of he best desserts I've had at a restaurant in years! Our food was incredible and everything was cooked perfectly with so much attention to detail. If I had to give one criticism, it would be that I wished the Parmesan fries were crispier, as they got a bit soft in the dish they were served in. Honestly we were very disappointed with our experience at the Roost today. We have been there so many times over the years and it used to be a favorite. The quality and service has declined to the point that I have been describing it to others as "very hit or miss" for some time now and today was the biggest "miss" of all. We went in at 3:30 on a Monday, hardly a prime time. The service was terrible. We stood at the front waiting to be seated for some time then when we finally saw an employee, my husband said hello. They said "Hi" and quickly walked off, not asking if we had been helped. We should have taken it as a sign... Our waiter took his time getting to us, I requested a bottle of water which he did not bring us, twice, and I sat with an empty glass most of the time we were there. We ordered items that we never received and the waiter asked us if we wanted to close out. We decided to do so without complaining that we hadn't received half our meal because what we did get was not good. The cauliflower was a soggy mush. They have added in little fried rice crispy threads since we were there last, presumably to help with the disaster mush the cauliflower was, but they too were soggy and gross. While there, I overheard an employee ask another employee for help downstairs to which the employee responded "I have done my time downstairs already so you better figure it out". Disappointing to see the lack of regard the employees had for us as customers, and equally for one another. I can say that the buffalo tots have been consistently good over the years and the drinks were also good today. We know the Gefners can produce a wonderful restaurant with consistently great food, as we are loyal customers to their other establishments, but unfortunately at this point, I would not recommend the Roost and we will not be back. read more
