I really enjoyed the ambiance at The Roost, and the food was just a notch below that. The restaurant is decorated very modern, and the best part is their rooftop patio. The weather was perfect and sunny, and our waitress even put down the sun shade for us when it got too hot. There is a bar upstairs which would be nice for an after-work drink. Because we came at an odd hour on a weekday the place was mostly empty and service was great. Most items on the menu are locally sourced. We started with the Beef Totchos. This is a huge saving of crispy tater tots topped with grass-fed ground beef, chipotle queso, guacamole, and pico. The beef was a bit overcooked and dry. The best parts were the tots and the chipotle queso. I basically filled up on this starter alone. My entree was the Roost Burger. This is a fresh beef patty topped with applewood smoked bacon, melted white cheddar, crispy onion straws, house pickles, garlic aioli & BBQ sauce on a Brioche bun. The patty needed more seasoning and it was a tad overcooked, but overall I enjoyed it. The side Caesar salad was limp and the croutons were soggy. The ambiance was a win for me, the food just needs to be elevated a bit. read more

So many elevated bar food places in Longmont and I don't drink beer or like hamburgers... What's a girl to do? Well, in the past I've gone to every type of ethnic food Longmont's had to offer, but this time I decided to follow the Yelp review stars to see what the fuss was about. Our personable and enthusiastic server suggested the tempura cauliflower and mentioned that it was featured on "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives." I've had many incarnations of this dish, but this was by far the best. The creamy sriacha sauce made it quite spicy, but it was the right amount of spice. And it was curiously not soggy at all. Best dish of the night. From there I had the Thai curry noodle entree. 3 stars for this dish. It needed some aromatics and herbs and got a bit monotonous. I wish tofu was an option. The husband tried the California burger with an Impossible Burger patty. We weren't sure if it was official Impossible Burger since it wasn't trademarked on the menu, but the server confirmed that it was. It tasted pretty burger-like. Of course that said, as previously mentioned I'm not into burgers. (I know you must think by now that we're both vegans but we're not. I just try to eat healthy when I can.) Hubby chose a side of tomato basil soup, and unfortunately for him he had one bite and didn't want any more because it was too garlicky. Fortunately for me I thought it was pretty perfect and devoured the whole thing. It was a little creamy which I mention because cream wasn't mentioned on the menu. We finished our meal with the carrot cake. There was so much potential there but it needs some changes. First of all, it had great caramel sauce and pecan pralines, and the cake is fine. However, there is no need for frosting. It made the dish way too sweet. The ice cream is okay but it would be improved by some small batch creamery real vanilla ice cream with flecks of vanilla bean. Also, the cake should arrive warm so it can melt the ice cream when you take bites together. Sadly, one side of our cake was room temperature and the other side - next to the very warm caramel sauce - was warm. read more

One of the most flavorful dishes I've had in a long time! I had the Thai Pork Tacos (2) with choice of sides and I chose fries. They were Intensely flavorful and the incredible seasoning was well balanced. It was a bit messy, but I couldn't put them down; they were THAT good! I was glad that there were 2 tacos, but I could have eaten more. However , the serving was generous and I'd be definitely overeating. The fries were a great choice, they were crispy, well seasoned with a bit of parsley and salted just right, with a delicious dip that reminded me of a really good thousand island dressing, but doctored up to a gourmet sauce. They offer a very large menu for alcoholic beverages and for me, a great offering of beer on tap. The atmosphere is modern, with fresh air throughout. They have seating in the back, with open garage door style windows which is quite popular. At the time of my visit on a beautiful Fall Saturday, it was crowded, but not overwhelming at all. It's a large establishment with a rooftop area that really looks fun. We ate in the bar area "high tops". Our waiter was very attentive without being a pest. He remembered all requests and was very pleasant. I can't wait to visit again and try the Ahi Poké nachos... as a starter and all the menu items look yummy. Though a tad on the pricey side this place is worth it! There's a bit to cover so I'll try to condense it by section. Atmosphere: A beautiful restaurant right off Main St. In downtown Longmont, the decor is amazing and it's a fun place to be the second you walk in. In the summertime or warmer weather it really comes alive. They have a rooftop that's huge you can be seated on and watch Longmont go by. Food: Great selection, great quality. Been here probably about 6-7 times and our server was always attentive and friendly, all of them. The Candied Bacon Sliders are one of my personal favorites as an appetizer. Very addicting! And once you finish your food, do NOT skip dessert! There is a pastry chef on staff who has concocted the most amazing desserts you can handle. Absolute gourmet stuff! Seriously, don't forget to leave room for dessert I'm not kidding I think that's what got me to go back so many times, it's unmatched quality. read more

Honestly we were very disappointed with our experience at the Roost today. We have been there so many times over the years and it used to be a favorite. The quality and service has declined to the point that I have been describing it to others as "very hit or miss" for some time now and today was the biggest "miss" of all. We went in at 3:30 on a Monday, hardly a prime time. The service was terrible. We stood at the front waiting to be seated for some time then when we finally saw an employee, my husband said hello. They said "Hi" and quickly walked off, not asking if we had been helped. We should have taken it as a sign... Our waiter took his time getting to us, I requested a bottle of water which he did not bring us, twice, and I sat with an empty glass most of the time we were there. We ordered items that we never received and the waiter asked us if we wanted to close out. We decided to do so without complaining that we hadn't received half our meal because what we did get was not good. The cauliflower was a soggy mush. They have added in little fried rice crispy threads since we were there last, presumably to help with the disaster mush the cauliflower was, but they too were soggy and gross. While there, I overheard an employee ask another employee for help downstairs to which the employee responded "I have done my time downstairs already so you better figure it out". Disappointing to see the lack of regard the employees had for us as customers, and equally for one another. I can say that the buffalo tots have been consistently good over the years and the drinks were also good today. We know the Gefners can produce a wonderful restaurant with consistently great food, as we are loyal customers to their other establishments, but unfortunately at this point, I would not recommend the Roost and we will not be back. read more

Loved this restaurant! Make sure to make a reservation beforehand. Seating was indoors but tables felt safely distanced (seemed like much more than six feet), and servers had their masks on the entire time. When we went they were doing a fun whiskey special where they featured a different whiskey cocktail created by one of their bartenders each week. (And the whiskey drinks were two for one!) Server was super helpful with all of the recommendations and came by frequently enough to make sure we were never low on whiskey. The classics - old fashioned and whiskey sour were both great. I got the roost burger, and we got Brussels sprouts, and garlic tots to share. All great. I think this is a solid dinner + drink spot, and I love that everything is locally sourced. read more

Took myself on a Friday night date to the Roost! I got a seat at the bar and had quick service the whole time. I had a cosmo to drink which wasn't my favorite cocktail I've ever had, but I was digging the pop rocks on the rim. I ordered the braised pork lettuce wraps for my meal, although they're listed as an appetizer. The flavor of everything was great, and the spice was just enough. My only complaint is that the proportions seemed off. I would have liked more meat, lime and sauce to fill the leftover lettuce pieces, and easily could've gotten by with less of the wontons. I was full when I finished though! I also ordered a slice of key lime pie to-go which was a classic way to satisfy my sweet tooth. I would give my experience 4.5 stars overall. I don't live in Longmont but I work there, subsequently I don't eat out as much there, only typically for work or business related kind of dinners or meals. The Roost is pretty well-known and fairly well established. The service and ambience is top notch, however when I've gone I've always felt like it's mixed results as far as my meal experience. I went for lunch a couple of months ago and had the shrimp & bacon mac & cheese and I thought it was great. I took some out of town colleagues there on August 4th, and to be fair one of them was somewhat of a foodie and when we've traveled together previously he typically finds pretty good places to eat. I had the black and blue pasta and while the flavors were good, it was a little dry and the fillet tips were supposed to be blackened but I thought they were over done and charred. My other two Colleagues have the steak Frites and the pokey rice bowl. While the presentation and overall concept was good they felt it fell short of their expectations as well. I also brought some other out of town colleagues there on August 26th. I think my party was relatively happy with their food, I had the Roost burger, and they put the aïoli on the bottom of the burger. I had cut the burger in half and by the time I got to the second half, it soaked through the bottom and was falling apart. While it's typically a decent experience I always find the food to be somewhat average or disappointing. I think you could go here and have a decent experience but I just feel like the food is going to be hit or miss. read more

Loved it! Great varied menu and friendly helpful service. We had wings, short rib tacos and a burger. Can they do all three well, yes they can. The wings (buff & blue) were meaty with crispy skin and thick sauce. The sauce was a great level of spice with a little more complexity than usual.
