I love this place because you sit down wherever from all the different option and order from the QR code. They bring you your food and water. I really like atmosphere here because it's open concept and great place to hang with friends, families or a date. They have a variety of options since it's a food hall like tacos, pizza, sushi, burgers, ramen, itwnoodles, coffee, bar and more. I especially love their sushi because it's super cheap. I really like the Cambodian noodles and salmon cream cheese roll. However, I was not a fan of the shrimp tempura roll. They do take about 20 minute to provide the food. This food hall also has a lot of very nice outdoor seating which is mostly covered. By scanning the QR code, you can order from any of the food places inside and they will run it out to your table. They even give you a progress report from the time your order is accepted until delivery. I had the Avocado Rosti from Leni and an iced coffee slush from Cameo Coffee. Nice food hall with street parking. Beautiful space inside. A bit confusing how the ordering and seating works. Essentially, grab any open seat and then you scan a QR code and order on your cell phone from any of the vendors in the hall. It's very simple which I like - they come over with the food after you order and bring you water and utensils right at the start. It was hard to seat a large group after our 5k run, but it was probably busier than usual. Suits a wide variety of palates. We got the rice noodle dishes from Yoko. Very large portion and excellent flavors. All 3, despite not all being advertised as spicy, were quite spicy. The beef noodle soup was also very spicy (Asian-level per my friend!). My friends ordered the burgers and fries and reported they were good as well. The price is a bit high here, especially some of the items at the Cameo coffee shop, but there are definitely some more affordable entrees like our rice noodle dishes at $14 (after tax and tip was more like $19). read more

Me and my fiancé went on a walk around Capitol Hill with our dog and stop by the roost for brunch. We ended up getting a good amount of food which was nice to try variety of their options. The item that did not stand out were the wings. The nachos were on point. My fiancé says that a salad was the best salad she's ever had (there is true to that statement). We tried the grilled chicken, avocado, bacon sandwich, which was on point. Service is pretty on point and for how fresh the food was it came out fairly fast. I will forever love this place. It's super modern and chic. The staff is always super friendly and the food is off the chain. My favorites are Hi-fi Taco and the pizza place! Perhaps this is an establishment better served onsite. Recently got a doordash order from here: a round pizza (the supreme) and the quesadilla. Both were extremely disgusting. The smell alone from the pizza was extremely off putting. I ordered the supreme, and unfortunately (at least on doordash), there is no way to adjust the toppings. I prefer no sausage, especially sausage that is ground up like ground beef as it is hard to pick off. Furthermore, presentation is something no one here understands because they dump piled the sausage in one central area. Looked like dog food. I attempted to at least try this 20 dollar atrocity and summoned the strength to muster one bite, and spit it up expeditiously. No sauce. Dry as hell. And yet the cheese still seemed to slip off in one giant glob. Do not recommend. The quesadilla was a bit more promising but only marginally so. It was very greasy. To the point where it was soggy. Not particularly how I prefer my quesadillas, but I was hungry so I attempted to give it a whirl. I grabbed the least wet piece I could and took a bite. I like my quesadillas with seasonings that are more aligned with where the food derived: maybe some cumin, chile, garlic, etc. Nowhere was I expecting barbecue sauce but that is exactly what it tasted like and it was pretty gross. The white sauce, which i wrongfully assumed was sour cream, tasted like warm soured mayo. The green chile sauce was better but didn't mesh well with barbecue chicken. All in all, thee Roost was thee Gross. Never again. I could've found better ways to waste 60 bucks. read more

It's set up like a food hall and has over a dozen vendors all slated to open by Thanksgiving 2020. There's a coffee shop (Cameo), a local good shop (Shop Made in DC), a taco place (Hi/Fi), burgers (Red Apron) and a beer house (Shelter). The coffee shop puts tables and chairs outside and Shelter has a large outdoor patio with seating. The Roost is already a local hangout spot thanks to Shelter. It's a well-curated beer house that changes out their drafts daily. They serve craft beers and even have sour ales and ciders on the menu! read more

You order from an app for all the restaurants and can go up to the individual restaurants which makes it impersonal. We had a couple of allergies at the table and wanted to ask some questions. The people behind the counters look at us like deer in headlights and referred us back to the app. In the app you can list allergies but on one counter I saw a container of peanuts. How do I know they didnt cross contaminate? I know that's always a risk but if we could actually speak to someone we could have gotten some assurances. We just ended up avoiding those restaurants. The food itself is good. The service is fast and friendly. The only dish that was an issue was the poutine with pork and broccoli raab. It had a bitter taste that I attribute probably to the broccoli. The pork was cut in very small chunks which were overcooked and hard. It's the one dish that didn't get finished. The tacos were divine. The sushi roll was good and the pizza and soft and yummy. The atmosphere and the beer tastes were good. I would go back for the atmosphere and beer alone. The beer was great in that for $4 you get a nice size taste and can create your own flight. The music was at a great volume. Loud enough to hear but not so loud you cant have a conversation. The Hi/Fi Fried avocado taco is the best non-meat taco I've ever had. It was super flavorful and surprisingly filling. You get two tacos within one order so it's pretty affordable for $6. I also wanted to try multiple foods, so got an order of the mushroom curry buns from Yoko & Kota and I usually don't like mushroom, but loved the buns. Lots of seating to work remotely and great service but the food is mid. The carnitas tacos were a decent size for the price, but I wasn't a fan of the American cheese - great on a burger or grilled cheese but I felt that it didn't go well on the taco and made it taste more like a cheap dorm meal than actual restaurant food. As for the poutine, I felt like the taste of the cheese curds really overpowered everything, which might be a good thing if you really like cheese curds but for me it was a bit strong. I couldn't taste the cherry pepper relish at all and the pork belly pieces seemed a bit overcooked as they were super dry. The fries also didn't taste fresh and they got soggy quickly because of the toppings. I also got an iced vanilla latte which was way too sweet and had an almost chemical taste, probably from whatever vanilla syrup they use. The menu is definitely extensive though, so maybe other options would be better. read more

Service is extremely fast which I love. I got the #2 bacon, muenster & comeback sauce and #3 pimento cheese, jalapeño jam & bbq sauce. The fries were amazing it was the perfect amount of crunch to soft. The sandwiches on the other hand were a little to greasy for my liking and soggy. We also got hi/fi burrito, which was alright. Awesome place. Right when you walk in you are greeted and told the instructions to order and for seating. It's very spaced out and COVID friendly. We decided on the burger from Red Apron. The server mentioned how great it was and it lived up to the potential! However I have to say the beef fat fries with rosemary and roasted garlic were by far the highlight of the whole meal. We also tried the mushroom dumplings which were by the best I've ever had! We also tried the "first date" latte which was also good. Multiple servers checked on us during the time we dined. Ever since I stumbled upon the Roost on tiktok, I've been excited to visit! It's essentially a brand new food hall on Capitol Hill! The space looks newly built and is extremely spacious. It was a little confusing to figure out how seating and ordering works, but their is staff around the entire food hall to help! But pretty much, you find any open seat and scan the QR code associated with that seat. From there you can order and pay for all your food right from the site. There is both indoor and outdoor seating and a WIDE VARIETY of restaurants to chose from! Some of them include HiFi Taco Shop, State Fair, Ako by Kenaki, Slice Joint, Yoko & Kota, Leni, and much more! We got the square cheese pizza from the Slice Joint and three sets of noodles from Yoko & Kota (Peanut and Citrus Chili Oil Rice Noodles, Tomato and Sesame Rice Noodles, Black Bean and Coconut Rice Noodles). The pizza was pretty good but just a tad bit salty. Overall the noodles were very okay, with the Black Bean & Coconut Rice Noodles being the best! read more

This review is for a late lunch sitting at a table in Shelter on a Saturday afternoon. You need proof of vaccination to eat indoors. Since this was our first time, we walked through all the counters to get an idea of what's available. Service: Since you order everything through the online app, there's not much interaction with the waitstaff. That said, everyone was professional. The staff did a great job cleaning and disinfecting between customers. Kudos for the cool serving plate. It mimics a paper plate. Bar: Shelter has an impressive selection of taps. I went with Ocelot Sim Hazy IPA ($7) and later a Bluejacket Forbidden Planet Dry-Hopped Blonde Ale ($7). My wife drank the Hi-Fi Margarita ($12). We felt the margarita was somewhat expensive, note that is a full-size. food: My wife ordered Hi Fi Taco's Taco Night in America ($6.75). It's a good idea, old fashioned home-style Tex Mex, but both tacos were greasy. I ordered Red Apron's Original ($17) and Beef Fat Fries ($8). Why did I order both? Because the online app menu picture didn't show any fries, so I thought we had to order them separately! The burger is a double, cooked on a flat griddle. It's good, but pricey for what it is. Call me a bird because I love The Roost! First, there's the awesome building it's located in, which has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and cool vibes (trust me). Second, it's easy to order from the variety of delicious places that The Roost houses, so you can mix and match cuisines with ease, something that some of us (like myself, a Sagittarius) appreciate. In fact, I ordered from three different places and would have ordered more if my stomach could've handled more food. Finally, all the food we ordered was truly fantastic. The peanut chili oil noodles were incredible and I'm craving them just writing about it! The rosti was also so delicious. I've ordered from most of the restaurants, and pretty much all of them are good - but there is some variance; Red Apron offer phenomenal quality food, while HiFi is a bit more standard, Americanized Mexican fare.
