A 4 star rating "means I'm a fan" which accurately sums up my feelings. I've been to a lot of NJ diners and this is a favorite although I'm not going to say it's tremendously better than your typical Jersey diner. In many ways, especially the food, it's no better than worse than what you'll get elsewhere. I always get a simple food like french toast or turkey club so I can't give a thorough food review. But it has a certain old school charm. And it also had two things which may only appeal to me- Diet Rite (the non caffeine non aspartame Cola) for a fountain drink and a classic Pac Man machine in the lobby. It's a nice alternative to say the Jefferson diner which while modern looking has an overinflated opinion of itself due to the Food Network connection. Stopped by here on way back to nyc from a hike and would recommend this place to anyone looking for a unique, local place to eat in the area. Cool decor, old school feel down to the comfy booths and personal jukeboxes at every table. Tons and tons of options, delicious looking dessert. The food is plentiful and Soooo many options, and though its just ok its good for the area and satisfying enough. But the service is amazing! Our waitress was AMAZING. Not too expensive and it has my favorite thing, a VEGGIE PITA! get the veggie pita without chicken and as for honey mustard with the french fries. soo good. It is like a greek salad in a warm pita. We waited for 15 minutes before a server took our drink order & explained that our server will be with us shortly. 10 minutes later a couple was seated next to us. The Roxbury Diner is overall pretty good. The food is pretty good, on the high end of "diner cuisine". The service is warm and inviting, prices are relatively cheap, and you can have breakfast at any time. They do take credit, recently acquired a liquor license. I placed an order for an anthonys panini and an Italian hot dog on a Monday, and it was a terrible expeience. I ordered the panini with out roasted peppers and cooked medium rare, and the hot dog I ordered with disco fries instead of the French fries that it came with. The woman who answered the phone was pleasant, but that does not fix the multiple errors with my food. To start it off, the panini had roasted peppers on it and was cooked well done, which caused the steak to be very rubber like. To make matters worse, the hot dog came without disco fries, and wasn't cut in half, causing me to pay an extra four dollars for absolutely nothing. When the food was brought out by one of the kitchen members, the woman whom I payed asked if there was cheese and gravy and the French fries, the kitchen worker said no so the woman walked away and got gravy in a cup, but did not amend the order even though she awknowleged it was wrong. But since I ordered a pick up, I didn't check the food that I ordered until I got home, otherwise I would have refused to take this food I did not order. This is not the only time that the roxbury diner has messed up my order, probably more than half the time. So to sum this up, if you are reading this before you order from the diner, don't place the order. The service is bad, the food quality is garbage, even if they get the order right. I'm never ordering from this diner again after multiple terrible expeiences. read more

This diner is a-ok. Only been here once, so it's really hard for me to give an accurate review. Anyways, I came here with a couple of friends around 8pm on a monday night. Naturally there were only a handful of people eating at that time, but somehow our orders took a really long time. I saw the Penne Vodka dish on the Monday Night Dinner Special menu and I knew I wanted it. However, upon closer look at the menu, the penne vodka is an appetizer therefore will not come with the complimentary soup or salad, coffee, and dessert. So basically it was a plate of penne vodka for $8. The penne vodka really came out in a regular round plate with sauce on - nothing like garlic bread or cheese...I was pretty disappointed. I also got the stuffed crab mushroom (another appetizer of the day), the stuffed crab was pretty good, but the mushroom was way too salty. I couldn't eat the mushroom without taking a sip of water. My friend tried the George's famous cheesecake and that was pretty legit! The waiter told us that the owner (George) bakes the cheesecake every Monday, so I guess we went on the right night for dessert! read more

The decor is a tad dated, especially compared to some of the other diners in the area but as we had visitors from overseas it fitted their idea of a 'real american diner' perfectly. I have been here on two separate occasions. Though, I will only be basing this review off of my most recent visit, due to the fact that the time stretch between my two visits is pretty long. I came here after a trip to the movie theatre (This particular theatre will also be reviewed). Despite the fact that I had popcorn and a drink at the theatre, I was still pretty hungry. So first off, I walk in and it seems like a nice little roadside diner. At the entrance, it has a neat little Pac-Man/Galaga machine. It was a pretty slow night, so I was seated rather quickly. So when I sit down and grab my menu, I notice that the layout of the menu is pretty confusing because the sections of it (Like Wine and Appetizers and stuff) we're just cluttered all over the pages. Therefore, it was difficult for me to find what I wanted. So I ordered an Iced Tea as my drink and some Cheese Fries and Chicken Strips as my Entree. In addition, I was with my cousin that night. My cousin ordered some Pancakes of a variety that I now forget. What I did like was the large assortment of pancakes they had on the menu. So then we waited a bit. When I received my tea, I tasted it and I tasted AWFUL. It tasted like a mouthful of weird ground up leaves. My cousin ordered some regular hot tea. I took a little taste and I noticed that I somehow tasted like coffee. So then we got our food (It was a slow night so our food came relatively fast). I will say that while my Fries and Strips were great, the quantity was pretty bad. I only got like 4 strips on one big plate. Same thing with my fries. My cousin gave me some of his pancakes since he didn't finish all of them. For a resteraunt, the pancake was decent. It had little apple slices on top which tasted good. But the pancakes were just CLUTTERED with nuts all in the batter. I will say that I like nuts, but I haven't been fond with them being an extra ingredient on other foods. So anyways, we got done with our food and paid the bill (which was moderately priced) and left. So here are some of the pros and cons of this location: Pros: Quick Service Good Quality Nice Venue Moderate Pricing Cons: Low Quantities when ordered Chicken Strips and Fries Pancakes that felt rushed The Server seemed weird and sketchy, as if it were his first day God Awful Iced Tea Bad Menu Layout So in all, it was a good experience and I would recommend it to those who want quick service for a diner. read more

Our server was pleasant, welcoming, and very helpful. I have a very strict diet but for the Roxbury this did not present a problem. I was very satisfied with the food and the great service. I absolutely enjoy the food here. Almost everything I have gotten was delicious at some point. My only complaint is consistency. Granted you will probably get an amazing meal if you do go, but there have been times (recently) I have ordered the same dish that I have in the past and I receive it and it is inedible. For instance, the buffalo chicken wrap. I used to get this ALL THE TIME!!! Lately, the past two times it was as if they completely forgot to even put hot sauce on the chicken. It was just a soggy wrap (from the watery bleu cheese dressing) with regular chicken. Would give less than one star if I could. Theres not much to diner food and this place really, REALLY, sucks. Tried this place 3 times, 3 aweful meals. Cant even cook eggs. Ask for over medium and they come out fried. Gyro was burnt and dry. Voiced how displeased I was and they act as though complaints are the norm. Went there for dinner about 1month or so ago. Right after the storm that knocked everyone power out. Ordered a steak that came out undercooked ,smelled like bad meat like when meat goes bad. Didn't even resemble a steak gray in color. I complained to the waitress,not her fault, she did knock it off the check. Didn't say a word to the owner I'm assuming because he never said anything to us. You think he would have apologized or something. Never the less we always ate there . The Roxbury Diner might have been one of the best places I have ever eaten. The food was delicious, but what stuck out to me was the service. I have never been to an establishment that had more attentive and better service (I would dare say it has better service than the Rainbow Room). My waitress, Katie, was fantastic and so personable. She was constantly checking in at the table and was very friendly (I would recommend a raise). The food came out quick and honestly I can say I had one of the best burgers. The feel of the entire restaurant was great: clean, pretty, and welcoming (such a great crowd it felt as if we were all friends). The Roxbury Diner is the best diner in Jersey. The food is great and so is the service. What I like the best is there are 3 owners and there is always one present. When you own/run an establishment you need to be there. The grilled chicken, red roasted peppers and artichoke wrap is the best item on the menu. I ordered a 1/2 chicken dinner and the chicken was dry, the broccoli was flavorless and seemed water logged. My husband had my pumpkin soup that tasted like pumpkin mixed into onion soup. I had requested a Gluten-Free menu and was told that they did not have one, but I could have any chicken dish made into a gluten free meal. So imagine my surprise when the chicken came on top of 1/2 a plate full of stuffing / dressing. The server then asked if I wanted a separate plate for the chicken?
