The dishes and cups are filthy. The plates have a grease and grime on them so bad you can see residue from the previous meal. The cups are covered in a gritty coating - that very well may be powered dishwasher detergent, but was gross nonetheless. The padded slip the check came in was covered in greasy fingerprints. That's just the filth I could see from my seat. I stayed because I was too hungry to leave, and feel disgusting for doing so. Prices are right. Friendly staff. read more

We come here often as a family. It's a typical diner but we've never had anything bad. My kids enjoy the food, the waitresses are always super nice and accommodating, and the prices are good. Never had an issue with cleanliness or service. Good family place! read more

In my opinion, it's the best diner in the Hackettstown-Mt Olive-Roxbury area. I went here around midnight with my girlfriend due to plans throughout the day. We were hungry, and we didn't really care for the other diners in the area, so we figured we would give the Roxbury diner a try. We were not disappointed. My girlfriend got a fried vegetable wrap and bread pudding, she absolutely loved both of them. The bread pudding is very moist, but in our opinion, it could've used a little cinnamon. It is one of the best we've had though. My appetizer was french onion au gratin soup, it was absolutely delicious homemade soup. My meal was phyllo dough stuffed with spinach and feta (I forget what it's called on the menu), and cherry cheesecake. The phyllo was delicious. I usually don't care for that much spinach due to me being a picky eater, but they had just the right amount of feta to balance everything out. It was very filling too. The cheesecake was one of the best I've ever had, to be honest. Very creamy, tasted very fresh -- and this is coming from a diner that would be closing in two hours. Other diners in the tri-town area do not have cheesecake that compares. All in all, the price was great, the food was delicious. I had a really good time. Not consistent...if I order a 13 dollar Greek salad with chicken, I want it to be the same way every time. Not so at Roxbury diner. They also punish you for getting lunch to go! I work for a local company and we order to go for lunch almost everyday...but they have lost our business....they charged over $18 for a western omlette, 2 orders of hash browns and charged an extra dollar for one slice of American cheese!! Seriously?! Oh and they also charge you for the styrofoam containers when you call and pick up! Is business THAT bad!!??? Went to pick up dinner, and everything looked thrown together. My burger was in a wrapped paper bag, thrown in with ketchup and honey mustard and smushed. When I arrived at this establishment, I was greeted by not the friendliest staff but not the angriest either, it left me with a very lukewarm feeling in my heart. As we advanced to our booth our waitress greeted us in a similar fashion, it was neither off putting or friendly it was an average experience, I ordered golden brown hot cakes because it was of the breakfast time and I was very hungry with a clear pallet so I could take in the full experience, but as I wait for my food I can review the decor, the place was very drab for New Jersey dinner standards, the booths were a hideous shade of seafoam green and the tables were a similar ugly fake granite. Oh and the lights, not the lights! They are these ugly drop down chain lamps with fall leaf garnishing, I appreciate the effort but there are much better ways to go about setting up a fall setting. The food has arrived, the pancakes were golden brown as advertised but everything is not always as it seems. The outer layers were hard and leathery and they because saturated with syrup and butter before I could finish cutting them, they tasted all right a little too over done, nothing special for diner pancakes. Overall it wasn't a terrible experience and our waitress warmed up to us creating a friendly environment but the food and environment were too much to overcome. 2/5 stars from me read more

The lunch special can't be beat. Its the best bang for the buck in the area. A drink soup sandwich w/fries often for under ten bucks including tip. The food is fresh the soups hot and good. Thursday is Pea soup day and its about the best across the state. The lunch special Greek Salad with gyro meat is definitely worth a try. read more

Even though I moved away to PA, I always come to this diner, even to get food to go. This diner has the best Tajiki sauce in the country!!!! I go in and order cups of it to go. It's incredible and have never had better. I'm Greek, so I know!! Everything they make is awesome!!! Their French onion Au gratin soup is out of this world, I always get their chicken gyros with lots and lots of Tajiki sauce of course. You just cannot go wrong here. One of the best diners in the area, with consistently good service, and food. Recently (if I'm correct on time frame) upgraded and have a liquor license. As far as fare goes it's basically diner cuisine- but they have a carving station on the weekends that's awesome, and some delicious fruit smoothies. read more

They have pretty good food, the reason why they get 1 star is because of management and the service. The first part service, the management, even the owners there, you can tell they dont care about their customers and are distant, the only person Id appriciate is George with the curly hair that seams to want to give you a great dining experience. There are a about 3 other kids in there that are good people, but as far as they rest, they couldnt give a crap about you. Tried to be nice to one person, and not even a day goes by and the whole place knew about how much of a tip I left her. Speaking about being rude, next time go back and wash windshields at the corner. The place is full of old people and hicks, so they dont make any money and they take the attitude out on the customers. Ordered a chicken dinner and said make sure it has 2 things in it only, the dish comes out and totally different. I said do you know what item #1 is do you know what item #2 is, she said yes, then why isnt it like the way I said it and you even wrote it down. Not even an explaination so she called George over....kinda just accepted it only because it was George and I didnt want him to get a bent out of shape. Not a big deal...So this waitress continued, must of been 6 or 7 times in less than 5 minutes she was trying to get me out of the table, and that was the last straw. Went to the counter and there was another girl, that wasnt even there 3 weeks and did a 10000 times better job than the person who had been there for years, maybe a 2 year difference between the 2. She did a good job, and told her point blank, go get the experience and leave this place because of the way people are around here, clueless, miserable, and not making any money. $80 for a Friday night staying there 8 hours plus and they have to tip out 15% of that., said get out here when you get the chance. But giving a good mention to my italian friend. Well going back to the golddigger, found out not even 16 hours had passed and a different waitiress that was waiting my table, knew about what had happened there not even a day before and wasnt even there. Found out that the golddigger told everyone in the place about the tip I left her, and said to her point blank, that was rude and that was low class point blank. Did something nice for someone and they throw your generiosity in your face, never again, you ever wait my table your getting no more than 5%. And there was another waitress the night before when I was at the counter with my friend, she was back to back deliberately trying to listen in on my conversation with the person I was being waited on. Basically trying to find out how much I was going to leave this waitress because it was obvious the golddigger went around blabbing to everyone of the grautity I had left. So getting ready to pay the golddigger for the tip and who do I see, the same easdropping waitress standing right behind me looking at my wallet directly trying to find out how much I was going to leave the gold digger. Oh and had to specifically state this, the truth. So the bill comes and it was about $35. So I had her a $100 bill, the golddigger actually expected me to leave her the change from the $100 from the change from the bill. In a diner, I went to her and said are you F'n kididng me, you really think your going to get $65 for piss ant service and the bullshit you did this past week, and your expecting me to give you the rest of the change from $100 bill on a $35 check, you have to be out of your f'n mind. This is the mentality in there. Its no wonder they dont make any money in there! News for you 2 losers, get a real job! All in all, there's a bunch of old people that go to this place and they are all in their own world. Everyone on cell phones, parents on the phone the whole time, while their kids are running around making scense for attention. Management, with the exception of George, dont know anything about how to run a resturaunt, even the owners daughter talks down to people like "yeah yeah whatever" you just knew it was fake ass. They service a 6 inch desert on a 5 inch plate so its basically about to drop on the sides. The worst turkey club I've ever had. Dry, fatty, chewy and grey. My folks like to go here when I visit them, so every time we go I try the turkey club in hopes it'll be better. It never is, it's ALWAYS AWFUL. So then I'll get a burger, how can a diner burger be bad right? Greasy and tasteless, even by diner standards. Where should I start? The place was so dirty. There was an employee who kept running to the bathroom to vomit, isn't this a food safety violation? My son's pancakes were so burnt and the syrup was so watered down, he did not eat his. The syrup at every table was so watered down even the neighboring tables were commenting on their syrup too, I heard a lady say hers tasted like maple flavored water. Talk about cutting costs! I ordered the special which was a 4 cheese grilled panini.....it came out as 2 pieces of French bread with cold cheese in it, The bread was not even toasted. A cold grikled cheese? When the server came back after 20 minutes (not her fault since she had 8-10 tables. This is a management issue) she asked if we needed boxes.
