There are chandeliers galore and plenty of natural light. We ordered drinks while we awaited the rest of our party: frozen margarita/Hibiscus margarita/ St Germain Spritz. We were seated on time and ordered the folllwing: App: chips/salsa/guac & queso Entree: Shrimp Tacos/Lamb Barbacoa/Charred Octopus/Lobster& Shrimp enchiladas & mushrooms (can't remember what my friend ordered, som I'm missing one) Best bite was a tie between the octopus & mushrooms. I came here with a group of friends, and we ended up staying for quite a while. Honestly, I'm sorry about that! We even stayed past our original time, but we had spoken with the manager beforehand, and everything was handled professionally. We made sure to take care of the staff as well because we truly appreciated their patience and service. Now, let's talk about the food and drinks... absolutely incredible. I don't even know how many espresso martinis I had, but I never got tired of them. They were so good. And whoever made them was not holding back on the espresso because those things were packed with caffeine in the best possible way. The flavor, the smokiness, the balance of everything... perfection. We were playing games at the table all night, and I'm convinced those espresso martinis helped me win more than a few rounds. I was locked in! As for the food, every dish we ordered seemed better than the one before. It got to the point where I wanted to try everything on the menu because every bite was outstanding. The staff was kind, accommodating, and welcoming even though we stayed longer than expected. Great service, amazing drinks, and delicious food. And the ambiance? Come on. We already know. Flora has been on my list for years (even way back when it was The Dunlavy) and I finally got the chance to go for Sunday brunch. The restaurant is beautiful, tucked into the edge of Buffalo Bayou park, with floor to ceiling glass windows and sparkling crystal chandeliers. This is truly a magical spot at any time of day. We were hoping for a slightly more casual meal and opted to sit at the bar which comes with full meal service. The bartender was very friendly and quickly got us started with a round of their classic margaritas and took our meal order. The margaritas were nice and light and fresh. For food, my friend and I both got tacos, one order of shrimp and one order of fish. While these were both fine, I was a little stocked to see the price - ($26) for two fish tacos which included a tortilla, a piece of mahi mahi fish, a small swipe of refried beans and a light sprinkle of cabbage slaw. No sides, no salsa. The shrimp tacos ($23) at least come with three tacos but this still feels overpriced as well. Finally, in good fashion we had to round out our meal with Carajillos which were excellent! These were hand shaken with rich espresso and a thick layer of foam and topped with a cinnamon stick lit on fire. 10/10! Finally, like other reviewers, it's worth mentioning the parking. I've run past this restaurant hundreds of times while in Buffalo Bayou Park and was well aware of the situation but can see how it can be overwhelming for the first time. Save yourself a headache and just prepare to pay $10 to valet your car. The lot is tiny and trying to park in the nearby neighborhood is asking for trouble to have to run across Allen Parkway. What an incredible Galentine's Day brunch I had at Flora! Wow this restaurant is something special. I was invited as a plus one for a friend to attend a hosted brunch in the private room. While the event hosts did decorate themselves and it was beautiful, the room itself is so striking it could've still been beautiful just standing on its own. The wait staff took such good care of us with their recommendations, always making sure our drinks were full, and ensuring we had everything we needed before we could even think to ask for it. The waitress that took care of us the most was incredible. We all loved her and I am so sad I can't remember her name because she deserved the recognition! The hibiscus margarita was SO good and so beautiful! We had a preset three course menu, and I truly loved every single thing on it. The tortilla chips are by far the best I've ever had in my 30 years of living and that's saying a lot because I consider myself a Mexican restaurant connoisseur. The guacamole was so fresh and flavorful. The queso was great. While I don't personally eat ceviche, it did look good and was very vibrant. I'd never tried anything like Sopecitos before this lunch. Those were good too!! For my entree, I chose the marinated skirt steak. Again, they knocked it out of the park. It was good and tender. For dessert I had the flan and loved it. I cannot wait to bring my husband back for a date night so I can experience the inside of the restaurant and have him try all the items I've already fell in love with! I had really hoped that this restaurant was going to be fantastic, but unfortunately that wasn't the case. Before the food arrived, I have to say that our experience with our waiter left a lot to be desired. He was completely aloof and inattentive... that's actually being generous. The food arrived and the portions were incredibly small. The shrimp in the aguachile had not marinated long enough and had a strong raw shrimp flavor. The tuna was good, which is probably why this review gets its two stars otherwise it would be a one star review. Onto the taco...The El Marfa, at $21 each, really failed the taste test. The angus beef was dry/overcooked and heavily greasy. The taco shell completely fell apart. We ended up speaking with the manager, Melissa, about our experience when she came around to the various tables on the patio and she was exceptional! I don't think that I will be returning as my overall experience was quite poor. Hopefully they can make some changes. Maybe the waiter was having a bad night, but it definitely didn't make for an enjoyable evening. Oh yeah, another thing, I don't eat octopus and was very clear to the waiter that I didn't eat octopus and so immediately he recommended the paella which has octopus. We arrived at noon on a Friday. We were lucky to grab a parking spot because it is mostly valet. The restaurant is nestled in greenery and on the bayou. It's a scenic welcome. We were greeted immediately by the hostess. She promptly took us to our seats. The decor is so beautiful. Chandeliers galore. They have short racks available for purses and if you aren't able to finish your meal they boxed it up and place the bags there. Our server Gustavo was attentive and brought our food nicely timed from our app, to our salad, main and dessert. It was a 1.5 hour experience. The place was packed at 1:00pm. I'm glad we arrived at noon. All the food was seasoned well and not overly salty. The sopecito felt light and tasty. Great start. The jalapeño basil vinaigrette on the flora salad was spicier than I thought it would be. The Caesar salad was delicious. We were able to get half salads! The volcan tostada was piled high. The fish tacos were good but I'm glad I had the app and salad. The tres leches wasn't overly sweet. The cake structure was sturdy. I would have preferred it a little softer. It is my wife and I 2 year anniversary and we came to Flora. The server said they are know for their margaritas so I had to give one a try. This is a romantic place with the dim lighting and the whole setup overlooking the natural surroundings. They offer outdoor seating but seeing as it is February and currently cold, we did not partake. I can see however it would be a cool vibe during the spring and summer. I am giving this place 4 because the food isn't the problem. This place is priced high in a market where you can get the same quality of food for a cheaper price. Essentially you are paying the vibe. For example, the ceviche alone is $31 and a half a dozen of raw oysters is $27.. the half a lb of the marinated skirt steak was $58.. The food was good but nothing really wowed to justify the price. I say that to say, if you want a romantic vibe with your significant other, then come. The service is phenomenal and they are very attentive. Mango margarita: 10/10... perfectly balanced. Not too sweet. It has the right amount of liquor and mango in it. Mezcal margarita: 10/10... this was done right. It's Smokey, balanced, and flavored well. I got the classic. Marinated Skirt Steak 10/10... it was flavorful and delicious. You put the lime and a bit of salt and it is an amazing experience. Flora is beautiful. That's number one. However, there are some things I don't really like logistically. Parking is a bit strange and you end up walking much more than you would like... And that's a No-No when you're in heels. There's a private section then you have to walk around to the main dining area where the regular people are. Lol. You also have to walk up a ramp which is very uncomfortable. Saving grace? The staff is super sweet. When I arrived my party was already sitting down and they ordered their drinks. I tried to get a notion of what they ordered so I could see what the best mocktail version would be but they didn't really know. So I just ordered something with cucumber. And it was actually pretty delicious. 8 out of 10. I ended up ordering a couple of those before the end of the night. For lunch, since I wasn't that hungry, we ordered guac and chips for the table which were pretty delicious and fresh and very citrusy. I then ordered the El Trio Ceviche: red snapper, shrimp, octopus, avocado, red onion, serrano, radish, cucumber, sal de chapulin, over mango habanero, lime (I think that's what it was) I would say it's a seven out of 10. Pretty tasty but not something I would order willingly again. Service gets a 10 out of 10. They were really attentive but not overly exhausting. Came to flora with my work team for a nice dinner. We tried a little bit of everything. The highlights were definitely the nachos, the enchiladas, and then dessert the bread pudding was the tastiest. The chips they have are yummy, thick cut and with seasoning not just salt. They also have a great drink selection and you can make almost any of them mocktails. The salsa was ok probably one of my least favorite items. I really enjoyed the sopecitas as well. We also had a fajita plate to share with the table- it had a really good variety of meat on it and was plenty to share around the table and more. The waiter was kind enough to help serve some of the meat to the table. The side of black beans was also a favorite of mine. The other desserts were decent as well. We had tres leches and the chocolate mousse. The mousse is really rich and I would recommend sharing it. After we were done they were kind enough to box up the leftovers for you. Downsides- the parking sucks. They basically force you to valet bc they save all the spots for them instead of having more parking. The lights were fairly dim and they flickered occasionally. Note: Ten Dollar valet parking. The Eighty Dollar Grilled Chicken with Rice and Beans. November 2025. (Okay, I am joking a bit here. The meal consisted of a Negroni, an order of guacamole, the main entree, and tax and tip lol). Read on. Update November 2025. Hmmm. Totopos. Not "burned" but almost. Unpalatable. I wonder if they are trying to fry them in a low smoke point olive oil instead of a higher smoke point organic sunflower oil? Anyway. They weren't good and left a bad taste in the mouth for the guacamole. Thus. Skip the totopos (chips). Unless they rethink what they are doing. Guacamole ("small" portion for 16 dollars..no where near the size of the appetizer serving one would get at the excellent Totys Mexican Restaurant for around the same price) , a Negroni cocktail, and an entree. Price with tax and tip was $79 plus the $10 valet parking. So, don't think of this place as a go to for the food, but more for the ambience and for a lovely evening out, because while the food was good, there were no OMG moments and the 79 dollar meal could be had just as good at any Mexican restaurant in town for about $25. Milanesa chicken. Perfectly fine. Not much batter. Essentially a flattened with an aplanador chicken breast with two sides, about 3/4 cup each. Beans were good. I liked them. And I liked the fideo riff on arroz. That is, instead of arroz a la Mexicana, they did fideo. Update April 2025. Disappointment. As enjoyable as the soup was on the previous visit, a second visit, in April 2025, ordering what are considered antojitos in Mexico, and tacos, left me underwhelmed and thinking "this is a place where one comes for the lovely ambience and gorgeous interior and view, but not for the food. Items we ordered tonight (see attached check for items) were not bad, just unmemorable, and, it is not a good thing when a food enthusiast such as myself keeps thinking "any taqueria in town would do these as well or better for a tenth of the price." Note: now, there is a tortilla soup option instead of the sopa de fideo I had in the past year. Original review: Mark Twain was reputed to have said "The coldest winter that I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco." He didn't say this of course, but that comment has been a jumping off point for me on a lot of food things . I know that Flora Mexican Kitchen has been getting a lot of comments about small portions respect to price. But having just finished off the rest of their fideo soup that I'd brought home, I'll say "The best Jewish chicken noodle soup in Houston is the sopa de fideo at Flora." This was such a great experience. Went here with a group of 8 for a luncheon.The servers were so attentive and constantly providing top ups on drinks as well as thoughtful suggestions. Valet parking is pretty much required given the small number of parking spots. It was difficult to find and compounded by construction and street closures in the downtown area.However, the spot where it is tucked in is very lovely next to a lake.The entrance for the public is towards the back. Warning: music is too loud for conversation unless just talking to people next to you. The food and drinks were very flavorful and excellent portions are small, but this is to be expected in an upscale restaurant. I had Street Tacos al Pastor and a delicious mocktail. Will be back. My biggest pet peeve is when my food isn't hot. Overall you're paying for the ambience and location and definitely not the food. The restaurant was super busy but my dish was so bad. It was likely sitting out while the whole tables orders were being prepared and it was served to me cold. I would not eat here again for the price point of the food. The waiters and staff were nice and attentive enough and when it's busy. Expect to tip/pay for valet parking. Try to avoid being seated in the private room if you can. Flavorful Food Does NOT Make Up For The Underwhelming Portions. My party of 2 walked in for our reservation at 9:30pm on a Saturday. We were greeted with a super enthusiastic server who gave us a pretty good first impression. That did not last long as we got our actual server, Spence, and he seemed to have a bit of an attitude. We caught him and what seemed to be his managers making weird glances and gesturing negative body language toward our table and we hadn't even ordered yet. We were there to celebrate my birthday and unbeknownst to us would receive a complimentary cotton candy....at a Mexican restaurant??? What grown adult would want cotton candy as a birthday treat when there are a plethora of other genuine options on the dessert menu. In my opinion Flora should do better than that. The price tags on each item on the menu do not justify the portions that they give you. If you order the yellowfin tuna tostada expect ONE singular tostada for $20. And if you're in the mood for the aguachile de tuna, expect a singular big spoon scoop of ceviche for $30! Even the side menu options weren't fairly priced; a small bowl of mushrooms for $10. Lastly, I might be the only one, but the cleanliness of a bathroom tells me more information than dressed up servers and hosts in nice button ups. Imagine the type of bathrooms you see at public parks; weird smells, random toilet paper on the floor, beyond soiled rugs, and a broken paper towel dispenser. Each of these things existed at Flora. That alone would have deterred me from spending my birthday here had I known this information prior. All in all, the flavor was decent, but the price truly was not genuine. Flora was cute to try but I will definitely not be back. This restaurant seems to rely on Houston clout eaters and one time visitors, rather that curating a high quality ambiance that encourages its patrons to come back whether that's with larger portions, tidier bathrooms, or even a more appropriate comp dessert. After my visit, I see Flora more as just a glorified Gringo's at 2.5x the price. read more

We were checked on multiple times before our full party arrived and then ended up waiting a long time once we were all there Food: We came here a long time ago when they first opened and weren't too thrilled with the food. My boyfriend chose this restaurant for our monthly date night and it did not disappoint. From the ambiance, to the service, it gave top tier. There is someone always there to assist and serve you and our server, Desiree (Desi) was top notch. She knew the menu as if she cooked every dish herself. She knew what sauces paired well with each dish and even told us what we should try next on our next visit. She was pleasant, hospitable and gave recommendations based on my vegetarian diet. It was a pretty good experience. The restaurant is beautiful as usually. It's where The Kitchn @ Dunlavy used to be, overlooking the pond where you can watch ducks and turtles. Very, very scenic so that is a major plus. I went on a weekday, so there was plenty of good parking, open seating and the waitstaff was free and very attentive. They were able to make a lot of great suggestions for the menu and seemed very knowledgeable of what they hard to offer. Our waiter was very kind, I can't remember her name, unfortunately, but she was exceptional. She even went above and beyond to let me know (as a pescatarian) that they used a chicken base stock in the rice. How amazing! My favorite dish: the octopus. 10/10. Came for brunch. It was a beautiful green oasis in the city. Gorgeous chandeliers lit the indoor space. Lots of great options. We tried mocktails and several dishes but the cornbread was amazing. Highly recommend for a girls luncheon. Luxe chairs and soft music were also in the space. Felt very chill and service was impeccable. read more

Valentines dinner reservations, got there right on time and sat immediately. We had a table on the patio and it was a cooler night but they had the space heaters on and was perfectly comfortable. The service was spot on all night from the time we sat down to when we left and since we had never been he did a great job in the beginning explaining the menu, some popular dishes and offering suggestions. I wish I remembered his name, taller mature gentleman, bit of an accent, I want to say Lucha but could be totally wrong. He made it even better by recognizing the holiday talking about wanting to make it a great evening etc. For the drinks and food we loved everything we had ordered. The El Pepino drink was great with a little spice but not too much. The appetizers we did was the red snapper ceviche and crispy chicken taquitos, both of which I'd recommend. I had the halibut with broccolini and my partner the lamb chops, both cooked perfectly, just couldn't have asked for a better dinner, service and atmosphere.
