    Fried Green Tomato appy, yum

Looking for a money brunch spot in VA Beach, look no more as Rustic Spoon is a solid choice. Started w/a Bacon Bloody w/shrimp skewer and then onto a Key Lime Crush. Oh yeah for food the biscuits were nice and buttery and fluffy, fried green tomato appy was a nice choice, I had the Carnitas Benedict and the Mushroom Toast stole the show.

The Rustic Spoon came to the Red Mill Commons Shopping Center in April 2023 after some delays during the pandemic. They are located behind the Panera Bread and can be seen from Upton Dr. My most recent visit here was on January 18, 2026. From the outside, you can see the sign for the business on the side and out front. There is some limited outdoor seating as well. With other businesses along that stretch and such, parking can be limited during peak times. I can attest to that as parking was limited when I came on January 16, 2026 (this wasn't an issue on the most recent visit). The reason for two visits pretty close together was because this was during Virginia Beach Restaurant Week. The visit on January 16, 2026 was for dinner and the visit on January 18, 2026 was for breakfast. Starting with the dinner visit on January 16, 2025, it was already pretty busy in there as there was a large party event going on with half of the seating area. This probably explains why parking was limited that evening. Even though that was the case, we were immediately greeted and able to be seated. It wasn't long before our server Megan came to the table. She asked us what we wanted to drink. I went with water with lemon and mom got a coke. It would take us a bit of time to choose what we wanted. I ended up going with the Firecracker Shrimp appetizer and Fried Shrimp Platter for the entree. My mom went with the Corn Chowder appetizer and Crab Cake Dinner as the entree. After about five minutes, the appetizers came out to the table. The Firecracker Shrimp were very tasty and flavorful. My mom loved the Corn Chowder that she ordered. About ten minutes after that, the entrees came to the table. Both foods looked good and they were hot as expected. I really liked the fried shrimp as it wasn't overly breaded either. It had a great taste. The fries were good too, and they were like an indulgence for me. The coleslaw was good too. My mom liked the Crab Cake Dinner that she had. The last part was the dessert. I knew this would spike my blood sugars, but I went with the Peanut Butter Pie, and my mom went with the Oreo Outlaw dessert. It didn't take long for those to come out, and that was the ultimate indulgence to finish off the evening. The second visit during the morning on January 18, 2026 for the Breakfast/Lunch version of their restaurant week menu. This was the first time I had been here for breakfast. We had the same server we had a few days before at the dinner version. On this visit, for the appetizer, I decided to try the Risotto Bites and my mom had the Corn Chowder again. For the entree, we both did the Classic French Toast, though I did mine with bacon, and my mom did hers with Edwards Sausage. The Risotto Bites were really good and had a nice flavor to them. The Classic French Toast was a great indulgence for me too. It was soft and hot. The bacon was great too. Overall, I have had some great experiences here recently. The food and service are top notch. There is ample seating inside, and there is some limited outdoor seating. They have daily food specials during the week too. This is definitely a locally owned place to check out for any meal of the day.

The ambiance is ok, may need a little more to make it feel a bit more special. The food and service makes up for the ambiance having a dull feeling. I had the carnitas omelet and it was delish. My friend had the avocado sandwich and it was also excellent. As apps we had the Brussels and they were good just a bit in the too much vinaigrette and needed some salt for me. The tomatoes were so yummy and don't like tomatoes. The drinks were all great!!! The manager or owner was so attentive, totally will return

I finally tried Rustic Spoon & on a night when there wasn't a large crowd! Food was yummy & the service was great! Looking forward to going again to try more of their menu!

My avocado eggs Benedict had soggy English muffins and also the avocado was basically a thin spread, not fresh avocados. Hubby got a Reuben and fries. I did it again, I forgot to ask for unsalted fries. Our server brought me a steaming hot separate bowl of tots without any extra charge. There is a bar in back but the dining area was clean.

Plenty of parking Great service staff are attentive and friendly Ordered studded french toast, coffee, & a la carte bacon. The French toast was fluffy and sweet and filled with an amazing merengue with fruit on top. It was so sweet and delicious. The bacon was crispy and firm. Coffee was hot and smooth. A great meal altogether, a wonderful brunch experience - will definitely return!

Me and my girls got together for a turned up brunch!! We had a reservation and got seated with no issues. Our waitress was friendly and she was attentive to our needs. It was almost a full house, so I'm glad my friend made the reservation. We ordered the berry compote biscuits with cream cheese lemon glaze, the rockfish benedict, calamari, risotto balls, carnitas hash, and Mac n cheese. The Mac n cheese never came, so I just took that as a sign that I didn't need it. Lol. The rockfish was fried well, alone it was bland, but as a whole dish with everything else it was good. You get a grilled green tomato with it, but I feel fried would have been better. But I enjoyed it. The calamari was delicious, the Thai chili sauce was popping popping!! My favorite!! The berry biscuits were good also. They forgot the lemon glaze at first, but quickly fixed it. The risotto balls were good but the sauce that came with it was bland and didn't go well with them. We enjoyed our meals for the most part. I like the Rustic spoon and will certainly return... Ask about their specials!! Check them out!!

My friends and I met up for brunch at The Rustic Spoon on Sunday. The place was pretty packed but thankfully, we made reservations and were able to be seated right away. Our server greeted us and was very friendly. She brought over waters and informed us of the brunch specials menu. After looking everything over, I decided to order the Fried Calamari and the Carnitas Hash, along with a Summer Berry Mimosa. Our food came out fairly quickly and I started by sampling a few things my friends ordered. The Berry Patch Biscuits were definitely on the sweeter side thanks to the berry compote and lemon cream cheese icing, but they were absolutely amazing. The Risotto Bites, on the other hand, were pretty flavorless and underwhelming. The Fried Calamari was fried perfectly and delicious as always. The Carnitas Hash tasted okay, but the potatoes were very hard and overcooked, which was disappointing. Overall, we had a decent time at brunch. A few hits and a few misses, but the atmosphere was lively, and service was good. I'd be open to coming back to try some other dishes.

Stopped by Rustic Spoon for a late lunch/early dinner on a busy Sunday, and I'm so glad I made a reservation. The parking lot was packed, the waitlist was long, but we walked right in and were seated at a great booth--no wait at all. Highly recommend reserving ahead if you're planning to visit, especially on the weekend. I wasn't super hungry, so I kept it light and ordered the homemade biscuits (which I'd heard a lot about) and the fried risotto balls. I also couldn't resist trying the Hot Honey Peach Margarita--and that was the true standout of the meal. That margarita? Five stars. Sweet, spicy, and dangerously good. I'm still thinking about it and honestly want to recreate it at home. The biscuits were warm, fluffy, and delicious--the butter had a unique flavor I almost identified as bacon grease? Not bad, just unexpected. The risotto balls were okay, but the sauce tasted like straight canned tomato paste--thick, bland, and not my favorite. The service was amazing. Our waitress was super friendly, helpful with suggestions, and checked in with us often. You could tell she really cared about making sure we had a great experience. Would I go back? Definitely. Would I order the same food? Maybe not. But for that cocktail, the vibe, and the great service? Absolutely.

    Carnitas Omelet

I liked the decor and ambiance of this spot and their menu is pretty big so there's something for everyone. We ordered the Japanese style pancakes (they take 25 min to make) which were tasty - very light and fluffy with a hint of sweetness but I'm not in a rush to get them again. I got the carnitas omelet which was also tasty but was deceiving because they stuffed it with some of the breakfast potatoes so it made it look bigger and fuller than it actually was. The meat was nice and tender though. Negatives - my breakfast potatoes were insanely salty though - I only had a few and I didn't care for the red pepper flakes they put on top of my omelet. Also we were debating what to order for my 22 month old and ordered a couple of sides, not realizing they had a kids menu. We were surprised our server didn't point that out. Overall I liked it but would probably order something different next time.

Our large party loved everything about this place. The food was beautifully presented and tasted amazing. Prices were great. The staff was extremely helpful and kind and the restaurant itself was wonderful. Thank you all for such a wonderful brunch!

I've been here several times, and the food is excellent. We made it for happy hour and visited on a Wednesday, and they had a special on burgers. The smash burger, fries, and drinks were fantastic. Service is top notch!

My visit here was on July 4, 2026. The outside of the place isn't hard to find or see. When you look at it from the outside, it looks more like a tropical type of theme. Parking did seem pretty limited as they were busy when my mom and I got here. Based on that, parking can be severely limited during peak times. Once we came inside, it definitely looked like a tropical theme, which was easy to see throughout the place. Another big thing I noticed as soon as we came in (and remained the case the entire time) that it was excessively loud. It was hard to hear each other, and even our server. I never got over to the outdoor seating area as it was pretty busy. We were greeted by a hostess at the counter and we were immediately seated. With it being busy as it was, our server came over to the table and said she would be back shortly, though it was a bit longer than expected. Someone else came by to ask if we wanted water while waiting for her to come back and we both did that. Once she was able to come to the table, we weren't quite ready to order yet, but I did get the Bay Bloody Mary. The Bay Bloody Mary was good and did have a kick to it, as expected, though more than I thought. It was still good though. After a few more minutes, we were ready to order. I decided to go for The Lesner With a Waffle as the main course item, scrambled eggs, and bacon with Cheese Grits and a Fried Biscuit as the side items. My mom ordered the Jamaican Dark Rum French Toast entree with bacon and a fruit skewer. Given how busy it was, I was surprised that food came out about ten minutes later after ordering. The food looked really good and hot when it came out. I don't normally do a waffle, but that waffle was really good. I only put butter on it as I didn't want to add even more sugar to the meal already. The bacon was nice and crispy as requested. I wasn't sure how the Cheese Grits would be, but they were surprisingly good. The last item I had was the Fried Biscuit. Wow that one was a highlight for sure, though I won't do that one too often. My mom said the entree she had was good too and there were no issues. Overall, this was a good visit. I would give it 3.5 stars but rounding to 4 in this case due to the great food. The biggest negatives were the noise levels, as it was hard to talk to anyone there, and they automatically add an 18% tip for all transactions, regardless of party size. Given the circumstances, the service was good too. I will come back in the future, but maybe not on a weekend or around a holiday where it gets busier than normal. This place is worth checking out if you are in the area and looking for something to choose from to eat at.

Although we sat outside (because we were dining with a dog), we never had to wait too long for the waitress to check on us. Every 5-10 minutes, she dropped by to make sure things were going well and to refill our coffee. Since The Egg Bistro has a HUGE breakfast menu, I'm sure everyone should be able to find something that they will/might enjoy. For my dining pleasure, I tried something new and went with the Bennie & the Grits. This dish piqued my interest because I never heard of grits cakes in the four decades of living on this planet. For about 20 bucks, the dish included three fried grit cakes with ground sausage, grilled shrimp, more sausage, two poached eggs and a side. Although the serving size was HUGE, I was not a bit fan of the dish. Note, I didn't think the dish was prepared badly, I just didn't get the concept of the fried grits (this from a grits lover); however, everything else with the dish was pretty good. If you are a Bloody Mary lover, you might some interesting varieties of Bloody Marys here. Additionally, I really appreciated that The Egg Bistro ranks the Bloody Marys based on spice level. Overall, I definitely would not mind visiting this location during a future trip to Va Beach. The only (very) minor issue that I had was that the outdoor seating is right next to the parking lot so you might experience some exhaust fumes/smoke while eating if you chose to dine outside. Again, this would not have been a (very) minor issue if we were not dining with a dog.

They have a rewards program, so you can earn free chips and salsa. Which is cool. Our waiter was friendly and he made sure we had everything we needed!! They have the 3 for me deal right now. So the prices are pretty reasonable for an entree, starter, fries, and a drink. My sister and I got that, and my friend got the trio app. My chicken sandwich was tasty and a good sized portion. They didn't give to many fries with it. But I think they were free if you wanted more. The bun isn't stable enough for the sandwiches, it always breaks down mid meal. I did like the loaded potato soup with the bacon and cheese. It went well with the chip crumbles. Lol. You can upgrade to a bowl for an additional $1. The smash burger was big. It looked good, and had all the fixings, with double patties. My friends chicken crispers and mozzarella sticks looked good also. She had a margarita that looked tasty, but she said it was a little too sweet. The chips and salsa were uhhh, kinda different. The salsa was thin and soupy, and the chips were also thin. They broke before we could even get it in the salsa. They were free, so I can't complain much. But a thicker chip would definitely make it easier to eat!! The honey chipotle and avocado ranch were delish!! The glasses they serve water in are beat!! My sister had something floating in her first drink. I thought my cup was chilled because of how it looked, but once the sun came through the window , the cup was all kinds of dirty!! We all kinda looked a little horrified, but it was to late. I had already drank most of my water, so I had to just let Jesus take the wheel at that point. I mean they should definitely invest in new glasses. There was a piece of hair on the lettuce in the burger also. Our waiter was nice, so we didn't want to cause him any stress. Because it was so many little issues to complain about, it would have probably overwhelmed him, and he had several tables to serve. But he was very attentive to us. So we were humble AF on this visit for sure!! This is decent food, when you're not trying to spend to much and need something quick. Pretty average. But it's Chili's, so it's to be expected. He personally made sure my steak was exactly how I wanted it and genuinely seemed concerned about whether I was happy with my order. That type of customer service deserves recognition. He knows how to take care of customers, and in my opinion, he deserves a raise! I do think there is an opportunity for improvement when it comes to management. There was a manager positioned at the front during my visit, and while I obviously don't know her personally or whether she is generally a nice person, her disposition toward customers did not come across as particularly friendly or welcoming. More importantly, I noticed a clear difference in how warmly she interacted with certain customers versus others. When you're in a management position, customers should feel like they're receiving the same level of courtesy and hospitality across the board..you shouldn't pick and choose who gets the friendly version of you. It was especially noticeable because she remained at the front for much of the time, closely overseeing the hosts, so those of us waiting on to-go orders could clearly observe the differences in her interactions with different patrons. If you're going to be that visible and hands-on with your staff, I think it's even more important to model the same customer service you expect from them. Thankfully, Colton did exactly that. Despite how packed and hectic the restaurant was, he remained attentive, personable, and genuinely cared about making sure I left satisfied. Colton was absolutely amazing and was easily the standout of my experience. Management should recognize him because employees who care about customers like that are a huge part of why people come back.
