We were sat and had our drink order taken (3 waters) and then I think our waiter was sucked into an interdimensional void since that was the last time I saw him. We had time to decide our oder, use the restroom which was out of toilet paper, get angry, decide to leave, find another restaruant and then bail before anybody came out to check on any table outside. Easily a time span of 20 minutes between our drink order and leaving without any staff ever checking on any of the 5 parties dining outside and at least 10 minutes went by before anybody put more toilet paper in the bathroom. The food might be great but grab some tacos before you try to eat here, if you're stuffed when you arrive you'll probably be hungry by the time your food shows up. read more

Been here twice this weekend. I don't think you can go wrong whatever you order. I've had the black and bleu burger, the fish and chips, sweet potato fries, clam chowder, and hot chocolate. Portions are quite large (who gives you FOUR pieces of fish in a fish and chips order???) Prices are very reasonable for what you get. Burger is super filling and cooked to order, with bacon and blue cheese. Note: if you want mayo on your burger, or a pickle, ask for it up front. Catsup and mustard are on the table for you. Servers have been very pleasant as are all the men who work there. Having read all the other favorable reviews I can't wait to get back and try the malts, pork chop, salad and maybe even the breakfast burrito. Oh yeah, the biscuits and gravy are also very good: lots of sausage in the gravy and a nice fresh biscuit underneath. My wife liked the coffee. Pleasant surroundings in snow country. Possibly the worst meal I've had in years. One salad had a beetle in it, the food took forever, the servers were nowhere to be found. The food was so oversalted it was unbelievable. No condiments given with the burger and fries, you had to go get it off another table. We were never checked up on, no drinks refilled. We liked the food but the service was unexpectedly bad. They got us seated then for at least 10-15 minutes. No greeting or waters. Than after 15 minutes the server asked if anybody took our order said he will but waited another 5-10 minutes before he took our order. Served our food after like 15-20 minutes. Then I asked the server twice for an extra utensils because he only gave us 3 and there was 5 of us. I don't like to be rude to people that handle our food so I was being nice and calm. He said sorry I'm by myself right now and I said how about just a napkin and he said it might be a minute. What happened to ok customer service let alone said yeah it's gonna have to wait for a dang napkin. Never once we were asked how we were doing. Saw another couple that were waiting to be seated for a while and when they say down themselves it was like 15 minutes and they just walked out. I've been traveling Interstate 80 between Sacramento and Reno for 50 years, but only recently did I discover a hidden "gem" of a restaurant, tucked away in seldom-visited Emigrant Gap: The Rustic Table. Wow! What a discovery... My visit and the photo taken actually happened during July of last year, and lazy me is just getting around to posting on Yelp. The main dining room, complete with what looks like a full-service bar. Looks can be deceiving, as this fine restaurant is "dry," - no alcohol, not even beer is on the menu - but that's okay, as you can enjoy a refreshing glass of ice water, or if you're sitting on the patio, you can enjoy the beautiful pines. If you're musically inclined, there's even an old fashioned piano in the dining room that you can play, to "wow" and entertain the staff and guests. I arrived around 2:30 in the afternoon, and my eyes centered on the burger portion of the menu. Since today was my first visit to this fine restaurant, I ordered from the top of the menu, "The Rustic Burger," as that's always a good place to start. I truly believe my favorite food in my entire life is a hamburger or a cheeseburger. If you follow my web site, you'll notice my absolute LOVE of Mexican cuisine, but when it comes down to "brass tacks," you can't beat a burger in any shape or form. So... "The Rustic Burger" was my meal of choice... As my friendly server, Chris, took my order, he asked me how I wanted my burger cooked. What a surprise, as that is not a question usually asked, as you usually "take it or leave it." Like the middle-of-the-road guy I am, I ordered my burger cooked medium, and that's how it arrived, along with some of the best fries you can ever enjoy along the Interstate 80 corridor. "The Rustic Burger" starts with a half-pound patty of hamburger, cooked your way. I chose medium, which is my de facto standard, The beef patty is served on a large bun, and topped with romaine lettuce, onion and tomato. The burger is not "dressed" as it's up to you to "dress" it your way. Me... I prefer a burger "raw," as in the natural state, it brings out the true talent in any burger. My fries didn't need to be dipped in ketchup, it was just the "kid" in me that made it happen. My goodness... this was a delicious burger, the fries were top notch; this meal was delicious! The Rustic Table is a hidden gem among the sugar pines and incense cedars at beautiful Emigrant Gap, off busy Interstate 80. The food is delicious, the staff is friendly, and it's absolutely wonderful to relax on the shady patio, enjoy the clean mountain air, the blue sky, and enjoy a great meal. Great food, great relaxation along with mountain scenery make The Rustic Table a go-to restaurant on your way to Reno. This little gem of a restaurant rates five stars, for a "killer" dining atmosphere, friendly service, and delicious food. read more

What a little gem. I stumbled upon this restaurant and was pleasantly surprised. It is run by Teen Challenge, an organization that helps people get off whatever they are addicted to and turn their lives around. Ruben was our waiter and had an incredible and sad story with a happy ending. Such a pleasant young man who picked himself up, cleaned up, and made a better life for himself. So incredibly happy for him. I had the fish tacos which Ruben recommended. They were very good. My lunch partner had an omelette and some of their homemade sausage gravy. We were both members of the clean plate club! I highly recommend this place, not only for the food but for what they are doing to help people in need. read more

Omg where do I began, this place is amazing. My family and I went to have fun in the snow so I looked for a nice place to dine in and we found this gem. I order the New York steak and was cooked to perfection, perfect amount of seasoning. I also ordered their soup of the day which was clam chowder and it was amazing as well, the only place I've had a clam chowder this good was in the Bay Area. My husband order the bbq ribs and they are to die for, way better than Texas road house . My son order the fettuccine Alfredo and once again we were amazed, we're not Italian but we love Italian food and you can tell the chef puts love and takes pride in his job. The kiddos order the hot dog and cheese burger and the fries were fresh made we literally tried each other's food haha. The clam chowder was good but being served in a 16 oz styrofoam coffee cup was weird! The side salad was fresh and very good. The soup and salad were the only decent food our group of 6 had. The BLT had no mayo and the bacon was burnt to a crisp. The burgers were DRY and the veggie patties had no flavor. The service was fine but eating on the patio meant everything was served on paper plates with plastic utensils. I won't go back. read more

Stopped in for breakfast on our way home from Tahoe. We were all pleasantly surprised at how much we enjoyed our meals. Great pancakes, the americano coffee was outstanding. They have Italian sodas with lots of flavors to pick from. There as a shrimp and grits special my husband tried and loved. They had a tater tot special with all kinds of goodies on it bacon, cheese, green onions, sauce, etc. It was so delicious, I wish we had ordered two!! They have a religious service on Sundays and we did feel like we were intruding a bit but no one complained or made us feel uncomfortable. I just hated interrupting by going to the restroom. Don't think about it... COME EAT here. I was driving back to the Bay Area from Tahoe. My fiancé had decided we would eat at the black bear diner in Auburn. I found this place on yelp and WOW! The place is adorably cozy inside. The staff is wonderful, and most importantly the COFEE is fantastic! The food is inexpensive, home made and delicious. I had a big omelet stuffed with veggies & bacon. It came with potatoes and toast. My finance had a huge plate of French toast for $8.00 Do not skip this place. We have been bringing our fifth wheel to Thousand Trails Snowflower RV Park in Emigrant Gap over the last four years and, every time we come, we visit The Rustic Table multiple times. During this year's two week stay, we went there twice for breakfast, and once each for lunch and dinner. The staff is so welcoming! As soon as you walk in the door, they hand you a menu and tell you to sit wherever you'd like. There are knick-knacks and pictures in the dining room that make the place feel cozy and warm. The menu offers a wide variety of options for all three meals plus the coffee bar offers an assortment of specialty coffees. There are also 33 different flavors of milkshakes. It's a great place for people of all ages. The portions are quite large and most of the time I need a to-go box for my left-overs. The Clam Chowder made from scratch is delicious and you can get it in a sourdough bread bowl. My husband says the homemade country gravy ranks in his top three. The Breakfast Nachos were my top pick for breakfast but would be yummy and filling for any meal. We have never left unhappy...we've always been more than satisfied! This place was a godsend! Unfortunately, we got in a car accident and were forced to stay at the nearest hotel. Fortunately for us, we chose the Sierra Woods Lodge. This place was also home to The Rustic Table restaurant which was a fantastic dinner option. We were able to place an order ahead of time and it was ready for pickup just in time. The portions were huge and it was a pleasant change of pace compared to the horrible day we were having! My partner had the rib meal which came with side salad and some amazing green beans, carrots, and mashed potatoes. I had the fish tacos (which included probably 3-4 nice tilapia fillets and a nice mango salsa) with sweet potato fries and side salad. None disappointed. I'll hopefully be back here sometime in the future to try the other menu items and stay at the lodge, 10/10 would recommend. read more

If you haven't stopped here on your way to or from Tahoe/Donner, you're missing out! Amazing food with take-half-home portions and wonderful service. We have been here a lot and never disappointed! I usually have the chicken piccata, so good! Tonight I branched out and tried the fish tacos, amazing!! Best I've had anywhere! Did I mention that their prices are reasonable too? We also had the baked Brie, died fruit and nut with balsamic reduction appetizer! They have an awesome selection of burgers and sandwiches too. And great clam chowder! It's not visible from IAD, and you have to drive a mile or so out and back on a dead end (paved) road to get there, but once you do it's like you're at a reasonably priced mountain resort. Breakfast all day. Good Wi-Fi. Good, strong coffee. I've had a late breakfast there twice, and both times it was very good. Breakfast pork chop this time, which was enough for two breakfasts.
