The lobster pot pie was good with a decent amount of lobster, but $47, really? The Portuguese stew was disappointing - very watery sauce with mostly mussels & a small piece of fish & a couple of clams, almost no potatoes. The homemade sourdough bread was the best part. The bill came to $164 with four drinks two of which were mocktails. Included was a 4 % tip for the kitchen. We were welcomed and asked if we were there for the 1st time, and was given a thorough rundown of the menu. I ordered a cup of Clam Chowder which was good and flavorful. It was a on the watery side, and I prefer a creamier chowder, but as I said the flavor was good. My entree was the Monkfish Spanikopita. An unusual thing to see on a menu, so I ordered it. I love Saltline, I came here with a friend during the beginning of the pandemic and instantly fell in love. The seafood is always fresh with amazing views of the water. I am here literally every weekend in the summer months, my favorites include the Kraken, a raw seafood tower it comes with oysters, clams, lobster, crab and shrimp. This tower is so beautiful, 2-3 people can share it but I could take this down on my own. Other menu items I enjoy are the coddies, lobster rolls and the New England smash burger. In general , the food is great, only complainant is the entree portions are a bit small for the cost. This is a great spot to celebrate a birthday or anniversary. I prefer the outdoor seating here, during the colder months there are heating lamps. I highly suggest making a reservation, spots fill up quickly. read more

In my opinion, chowder (especially New England clam chowder) should be thick. When their salad presented itself it was moving. It should've been served with a straw. That said, it tasted really good. But, I had to finish it off drinking it like a cup of coffee. The fried fish sandwich was pretty good. Not the best I've had, but pretty good. Probably another three of five stars. The service here is really great. But... the food isn't cutting it. I'm going to sound whiny in this review, but I assure you that most of my reviews are 4's and 5's... the Salt Line just does not meet expectations. We got the Kraken seafood tower, and for something costing in the 3- digits... it wasn't to par. The snow crab was falling apart and didn't taste great-- I ate a piece... then my husband did and he's like... that actually went bad. We told the server and they admitted that a portion of their snow crab did go bad. It shouldn't have been served at all. They were nice and took off the price of the snow crab, which was like a third of the cost of the tower. But the rest of the tower wasn't that great either. The shrimp cocktail was grainy and no elasticity, which means the shrimp was fairly old and/or overcooked.The smoked salmon roe was gross-- it was slimy, very fishy and the flavor profile was bitter and not smoky to me - and I normally love salmon roe nigiri. The smoked whitefish was fine, not too much taste-- even for being drenched in some sort of mayo. The lobster, oysters, and clams were good. Sucks that they don't serve west coast oysters though. Everything was pretty mild and not creamy and briny like we usually enjoy. Shucked well. The confit potatoes were meh. Not salty enough, not crispy, just slightly hard on the exteriors but at least they were soft in the middle. When you say something is cooked in duck fat though... I expect a crispiness to it. I don't really like my potatoes soggy unless it's like mashed or scalloped. The hamachi crudo was good. I'm glad they went away from the deconstructed crudo plate- that was weird. The plate didn't have much fish, though, and it was avocado sauce and onion heavy. It's almost as if they are trying to cover up the flavors of not-so-fresh fish. My husband really liked the razor clam ceviche. Unique serving presentation and flavors were good. I'm not a clam fan though so I won't speak to it. Liked the flavor of the clam chowder and the crackers in it. But they don't use any thickening agents so it's just very watery. While I like that they don't use filler, in the cold sometimes you just want a hearty, thick soup. This didn't do it. This place has a great location and vibe, the staff are really helpful. But I likely won't come back anymore - there are way too many good restaurants in the area serving better food and doing quality checks. Especially considering the cost if you get seafood, you will generally walk out paying $100 per person for a meal. On my second night in DC I wanted a nice steak meal but one that wouldnt break the bank. So I went to an oyster bar. My friend and I were able to snag a last minute reservation and we were seated right away. Our server Cheryl came over and took our drink order, I also let her know that I was gluten and dairy free. She said no problem. For a starter we ordered the kampachi crudo - which was very tasty. Fresh fish with some nice heat from the green thai chiles, plus the avocado crema to balance it out. For dinner I ordered a flat iron steak with kale and coffee roasted potatoes. The steak was tender and sides were delicious. I had asked for the sauce on the side and it didnt come that way (not a big deal) but I'm pretty sure Cheryl went and made it known to the kitchen LOL. She also brought a scoop of Apple cider sorbet from Ice Cream Jubilee on the house because she felt bad. Great food, amazing service and reasonably priced. Fried Clam Bellies - One of my favorite seafood dish from New England and it was done properly here. Lightly battered Ipswich clam fried to perfection ... ... wish I can have some right now. Baked Pimento Crab Dip - This was a miss for me. Why hide the sweetness of crabmeat with the strong flavors from the Pimento, especially when the ratio is more cheese than crab. Btw, never saw any real large lumps, guess they broke it up into smaller strands. Pricey! The fluffy rice crackers were a nice touch though. Rockfish Tartare - Love the flavor of this dish a lot. Paired deliciously with the crispy potato chips. I could eat this all day. My only problem is that I can't tell what type of fish I'm eating at all. Other than the texture, I don't believe the chef allowed the fish to shine. Razor Clam Ceviche - Hmm, same problem, there is so much other ingredients with the tiny pieces of razor clam, you would easily miss it if you don't pay attention. Oh yeah, do you know the cost of a single razor clam? Paying $15 for it made me felt really ripped off. Portuguese Stew - Really nothing special if you are looking for fantastic seafood. The fish was a bit overcooked and the mussels/clams were just okay. By far, the best part of this dish is soaking up all the broth with the sourdough bread. So close, yet still far away from achieving seafood greatness in my mind. I might come back if I'm nearby for some oysters and fried clams. This was my second visit here ! My first time visiting was back in 2018 attending a mixer here as part of a conference. The food this time was just as good as I remembered it was from the first time! -- The Portuguese Stew was perfect on a cold weather day! The broth and seafood was very well balanced and hearty. My husband had the crispy skin rockfish , unfortunately it was not a lot of fish and so he was hungry . So we ordered dessert! Haha. For dessert, we treated ourselves to a FLOURLESS CHOCOLATE CAKE Poached nectarines, figs, plum puree, vanilla ice cream. It was a pretty heavy dessert and more than enough to share between two people and left feeling very satisfied. The outdoor seating looks lovely for warmer days! We were attending a match at Audi Field and had our Lyft drop us at Salt Line. Lots of activity at the outside tented area but we chose to go inside. Seats at tables were scarce but there was food service at the bar. We were greeted immediately and given menus and drink orders taken quickly- no waiting around. The scene behind the bar was busy but fluid and they were serving a lot of bar area and the tables around the restaurant. We sat next to the oyster station and ordered two dozen on the half shell. The oysters were shucked and coming to us on a bed of ice with condiments before our drink was at half. Great job shucking, no grit, no sand, no shell fragments. A Maine variety along w a Chesapeake. Visited The Salt Line for Saturday brunch and it was amazing. Our waiter (I'm so sorry I forget their name!!) was the best! So personable, friendly, had great recommendations, was patient with our group. It truly seemed like they loved their job. We started with a variety of oysters. They were all really good - there was no bad kind in the batch. Our table also ordered the Baked Pimento Crab Dip which we loved. I ordered the Crab Chilaquiles for my main entree and it was delicious! Most of the rest of my group ordered the Smash Burger and they all couldn't stop raving about it - even our server said it's one of the best burgers in DC. Can't wait to return and try it!! I've been here once before for larger events as they have a great outdoor area with a view of the water in Navy Yard. Next door is Dacha and it's close to National Park. We came here after Enchant for a quick dinner (I would normally think through for a more interesting restaurant but couldn't be bothered). It's an oyster and seafood joint. As we sat outside we got all plasticware for drinks. The wine menu is limited. I love seeing coddies on the menu but these were an utter disappointment - they felt stale and dry and the tiny bit of mustard helped but it wasn't great. The Portuguese stew on the other hand was great 4 out of 5 I'd say - it came with a separate bowl for the mussel shells. I missed the part about the side of bread so I ordered French fries because who doesn't want fries with mussels? My friend got the Parker rolls and instead of it being buttery and delicious it was so dry. The staff is friendly and the service is good but the food is definitely lacking. They have a fantastic happy hour, especially their happy hours. Mon - Thurs is 4-6 and a Happy Afternoon from 12-6. Amazing! Half off local VA/MD oysters and other food and drink specials. They have a fantastic craft beer selection, wine selection, and fun cocktails. I opted for a beer from Oxbow up in Maine and my date had a rotating selection from Maine Beer Co in Maine as well. Both were fantastic. We each started with a cup of their clam chowder. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the oyster crackers were already in it because I don't like too many in mine. I opted for a half dozen oysters, one of each. I love that they tell you whether they're small, medium, or large, and their salt level. I had a lobster roll, warm and toasted with butter of course. Had a great time here yesterday. We made reservations to celebrate my birthday and requested a table with a fire pit and they honored the request! We were so excited. Even though it was a very chilly day, the combination of the fire pit plus the heater plus complimentary blankets to use while there was perfect. We stuck to the warmed drinks. The mulled rose was great and I also had the Mexican Mocha. Our server John was amazing--attentive, fixing our fire pit before we knew there was a problem, making good recommendations, and knowing just when to ask if we needed anything else. My bartender Mary provided great service. I had a tough time deciding what I wanted but ever since trips to Newport RI I am a sucker for Lobster Rolls. Mary assured me I could get one that was only buttered....no dressing or ick mayonnaise. I got fries with it. They gave me plenty of fries and the lobster roll was delicious. It was also expensive and not super filling. So I had to get some really yummy locally sourced oysters. One star off for my 29 dollar not filling but really yummy sandwich. Can't wait to come back and eat dinner and then go to a DC United game. Rudy who was shucking oysters at the bar was also really nice. The crispy Brussels are always a must anytime i go somewhere that has them and this place was no different. The food was good, but I'd say the ambiance is the thing that most draws you to this place.
