This is a solid new addition to the Grays Harbor Food Scene. We showed up there tonight because we heard about them while playing bingo at The Local Bar last night. They donated a $25 gift certificate as a prize! There are a lot of things here to really like with a few cringeworthy parts, too. Near as I can tell, this was opened late in 2023 so it seems they're still getting their feet under them. The building and finished space is done quite nicely though there seems to be a bit of an identity crisis. Is it farmhouse? Roadhouse? Bistro? The decor and music choice is kind of all over the place. Three things that bothered us... the fast food drink machine and ice dispenser. Looks terrible and the sound of the ice machine rattled throughout the dining room our entire visit. Do us all a favor and just use an ice well. While I'm speaking of noises, PLEASE change the battery of that smoke detector in the bathroom hall. Shouldn't even have to say that. Finally, the bathrooms need to be clearly marked. They're off in a corner and I heard virtually every guest ask where they were. Just put up a sign. Now that my gripes are off the table on to the rest. Our server was quite pleasant. Despite our obvious newness and my joviality, she got us through our order and took good care of us. Order was entered properly and came out properly. The food itself was absolutely top notch. Rib steak was perfectly medium rare and the mashed Yukon gold potatoes were amazing. My wife had the seafood pasta that she really loved. They held the oysters for her but it still was more good than she could eat. Shrimp and scallops were super tender and the clams and crab rounded out the dish. Sauce was light and creamy with just a hint of garlic. Prices are higher than diner fare but the quality and value is there to make it worthwhile. Definitely a place to come back to, just so long as they tweak the things that need tweaking. read more

We were here on a Friday night, not too busy. Service was excellent. I had the sirloin, was cooked perfectly for my taste and overall done very well, the potato that came with is was just cubed and pan fried, they were ok but cold so that took away from the meal. Wife had seafood pasta and she said it was very good. The clear winner of this meal was the salad, something so simple but so often terrible, not this one, tomato, red pepper, cucumber, really good blue cheese, it really was the winner. read more

We like and enjoy this place.. our#1 and only fave server really is a young and gracious Jessica ..She like a daughter to us.. Decent eats and Cocktails..Friendly( enough) atmosphere..occassional live music..If you're heading to Westport WA or Greyland WA Be sure to give The Sand Dollar a Try. read more

Super disappointing. I had such high hopes for this place. After waiting a few months to try this place, so they could get the bugs worked out, we came into tonight for dinner. Wasn't super busy so ordering didn't take very long. A few minutes after placing our order we were informed they were out of the Oysters Rockefeller in passing and weren't given a chance to order something in its place. Our salads arrived shortly after and as we stared at them for 10 minutes because we didn't have any utensils until the bartender finally noticed and brought us some. I ordered the Ribeye and my wife the New York. Hers was overcooked and lacked any flavor. Mine was cooked to temperature, but was dry, flavorless and pretty small for the price. I don't mind paying $40 for a steak but I expect a decent cut and flavor. The highlight of our meals were the carrots on the side of the plate. If you want the same (or better) meal at half the price go to The Local Bar on Wednesday nights. read more

Felt as if restaurant is a little confused. Ambience is casual to almost bar like - table covered in bottle caps yet priced as fine dining. Food was fine - a few temp issues and order errors but they were rectified. Bill was close to two other high end restaurants but food was not as memorable. Arrived an hour before closing and they were out of a lot of things we tried to order. The staff were really nice and friendly and my side salad was really good. Otherwise, I was really disappointed. First of all, it was SO expensive. The kid meal was $12 for a very small serving of JUST buttered noodles. No sides. A drink was included, but soda was the only option and we don't usually give our kids soda. We had 2 adults and 2 little kids and it was $130 including tax and tip. My husband got the seafood pasta and two beers, I got a burger & salad with no drink, and my kids each got the pasta and we added chicken. I know the cost of everything has gone up, but I was pretty stunned at the price considering what we got. read more

Stopped in last night for their prime rib special. Dinner salad was yummy. Prime rib was delicious and loved the mashed potatoes and roasted veggies. Really wanted to try their bread pudding for dessert but way too full. Dinner for two with a beer, soda and tip was around $90.00 We will return for sure....lots on menu we wanna try !! read more

We tried Sand Dollar towards the end of July for my wife's birthday and it was decent. They forgot to add chicken to her pasta, they were out of most draft beer options, but overall experience was decent enough to give it another go. Several weeks later we decided to try dinner at the Sand Dollar again. When we walked in, there was only one other table dining, and one waitress. We sat there for almost 25 minutes without even being served water. That's a terribly long time to wait, especially with children. At that point we left. Our final draw was yesterday evening. We made reservations and showed up at 715. We got seated and actually got to order drinks this time. When the waitress returned, to take our order, we were informed that they were out of almost everything! We were offered a rib eye with no sides, or nachos with limited toppings. Our kids could get grilled cheese, but without fries. I paid for our drinks without drinking them and left. You would think they could put a sign out front stating no food available, or call you if you made a reservation! That was mind blowing to us. We even got a little attitude to boot as we left. I even tipped for the drink my wife didn't touch. Sorry Sand Dollar, you might want to shut down for a bit and work on your business plan. read more

Unfortunately, we didn't find this gem until the end of our trip. We thought it was just a farmer's market. The food was delicious! We tried the small plates. They were 50% off at the time we stopped in, between lunch and dinner time. The brussel sprouts were cooked perfectly and drizzled with balsamic reduction. We also tried the blue cheese stuffed honey-glazed dates! Perfectly balanced and delicious. I had a traditional whiskey sour which was made perfectly! Not only were the food and drink amazing, the staff was very welcoming and knowledgeable. Very friendly and down to earth. Jessica was very helpful, and kind. We really enjoyed talking with them. Wish we lived closer! We'd definitely frequent this place! A must try when visiting Westport! Thanks for the wonderful service, ladies! read more

Thank you so much for an amazing experience. Your staff and cooks are absolutely amazing. I HIGHLY recommend the steam clams. The way it was prepared was perfection. Perfect balance of flavors. I even ate the lemon slices that were in it. My tomato plants are an excellent addition to my collection. The burgers were rare. Not that it is a problem but if you don't serve a burger cooked all the way you should ask how to you would like it prepared. The steaks were good but the potatoes and veggies were very bland. read more

First I want to start by saying we love to support small businesses and try to focus on them when traveling. But I'm sorry to say this restaurant was a dismal experience. We visited in early October. First, walking into the establishment feels and was very cold. From the mismatched tables to the bare cement floor, uncovered drafty windows, and no heat to speak of we had to leave our coats on for the entire meal. I couldn't see anything around to tell me why it is named The Sand Dollar. The decor is all over the place. Is it farmhouse, industrial, modern, garage sale? The mismatched tables were bare. No flowers, candles or even salt and pepper. (How about some vessels filled with sand dollars?) The waitress told us to sit where we wanted. No welcome or smiling staff here. There was one other table seated. After 10 or 15 minutes she brought our menus and we asked for water. She informed us the starch of the night was Spanish rice and the vegetable side was green beans with ham. My husband ordered the 12oz ribeye medium rare. I ordered the Molten Chicken Parmigiana. I asked to substitute fries (which were on the menu as an appetizer) and was told there are no substitutions. It does not state that on the menu. I said I thought Spanish rice would be an odd accompaniment to an Italian dish and opted to just not have the rice. I thought maybe I would get a few more green beans but was wrong. The waitress brought our house salads which consisted of lettuce with 2 slices of tomato and the dressing in a lidded plastic cup stuck in the middle of the lettuce. The waitress cleared our salad bowls and said the dreaded words, "you need to keep your fork." My husbands steak was cooked to medium rare but had no sear so it was just a light tan/grayish color and was not seasoned. (Brown food tastes good people!) The green beans were fine. I'm assuming frozen with some ham or bacon added. Nothing was seasoned very well and we had to ask for salt and pepper as there is none on the table as previously noted. I had assumed my "molten" chicken parm would be a stuffed chicken breast filled with ooey cheesy goodness. Alas this was not something made in house. It was just a regular chicken parm I could buy from my local grocer's freezer section for under $5. Another major faux pas in my opinion occurred when I grabbed my napkin to wipe my mouth. The smell of fabric softener was overwhelming It made me get an instant headache. I am assuming they clean their own linens as I have never experienced this before. Anyone in the restaurant business knows odors like this interfere with the dining experience. Employees should not be wearing perfumes, candles should not be scented, linens should have no scent. All in all this was a very disappointing meal. With the price of dining out nowadays I expect better. At $80 for 2 entrees (nothing else) with tax and tip, yes I still tipped but not my usual 20% - 25%. I felt ripped off. A little basic restaurant knowledge would go a long way for these owners. This is an area begging for good quality eateries. I am hoping they gain some basic food skills and can stay in business but they will have to try harder. Maybe head down the road to The Wandering Goose and take some pointers. The kicker for me...a couple came in while we were eating and as we left I glanced down at their plates. She was eating chicken parm, with fries. read more

The food was delicious! I had the 12oz ribeye dinner steak was a bit tough and they definitely don't want you to fill up their sides. The steak was tasty though, and my wife had the seafood Alfredo. The service was less than desirable it took over 15 minutes for my wife to get her rum and Coke the young waitress seemed a bit overwhelmed by it being somewhat busy but she'll get better. A welcome addition to Westport! Good food and attractive venue. Crab salad and Brussels sprouts are my two favorite menu choices there.

We went to the Sand Dollar with friends last night to celebrate a birthday. They ordered a bottle of red and my husband and I ordered a bottle of white (chardonnay). Both bottles were brought to our table already opened. Our "bottle" was a half bottle, though the menu did not indicate that. It also was not chilled. Those things were minor compared to what followed. We poured it in our glasses and as soon as it got near my face I smelled a chemical smell. I tasted it and it tasted terrible. We called our waitress who called the bartender. We explained the problem, said we didn't want that wine and ordered a different bottle. When we got our bill, we were charged for all three bottles -- the red and white that we drank as well as the first white we sent back. When we questioned the waitress, she said she was told not to take the first bottle off our bill. She had just started working there and was 19 years old, so we asked to speak to someone else. The owner came to our table and argued with us loudly in the middle of the restaurant. He asked us if the restaurant staff recommended that wine. We said they did not and he said we had to pay for it because we chose it from the menu. (There were only two chardonnay options, but that's irrelevant to this situation.) He kept saying did you not order it? We tried to explain that it was bad and he insisted no it wasn't because none of the wine in his restaurant was more than two weeks old. He insisted the state of Washington would come after him and ask why he was giving away bottles of wine if he took it off our bill. What??? We told him to taste and smell it himself, since it should be in his kitchen. He left and we went outside to wait; by that time we just wanted to get out of the restaurant. He returned to us, now outside, and the arguing began again. He said the wine didn't taste good to him, because he "didn't like dry chardonnay". He may have finally taken it off our bill, but it was confusing since we were splitting the bill 50/50 and the other half had already been paid. We asked him at one point if he had ever ordered a bottle of wine in a restaurant that wasn't good and still been charged for it. He didn't answer. His attitude was the most uncustomer-friendly we ever experienced. Most restaurants open wine at the table and offer it to taste before leaving it. 99.9% of the time it's fine but for the rare times it is not, the customer is not blamed. This was a first for us. Based on the menu cost of that bottle, his cost was probably $10 - $15. And for that he was willing to alienate and permanently lose four local customers. The food was ok, but a little overpriced. They were out of the soup and our first time there they were out of something else. The pasta alfredo was pretty good, even though it had too much garlic. My husband had the steak sandwich which he liked. This was our second time at the Sand Dollar but it was also our last. read more
