GARBAGE CHEESE on the pizza. I do like the location on the boardwalk and have been going here for a very long time. It's nice that they have the iconic Giant Slice, but it's definitely not a bargain and for (at least) the last couple of years they have been using the cheapest grade of cheese possible. Would not be surprised if the package in which it comes says "cheese food product" or worse. If you don't mind feeding your kids low grade food they'll probably never notice but if you know the difference you might wish you didn't order it. I want to be fair (but I love my pizza). Overall the food is a little bit above the average boardwalk quality, the selection is good and Seaside isn't ordinarily the first thing that comes to mind when you think "fine dining". The waiters and waitresses are usually very good and friendly. However, if you enter on the south side of the building (the bar side) you will die before someone greets or seats you if you want a table. read more

It is my absolute pleasure to come back and post an update about The Sawmill. Your trip to Seaside is not complete with at least grabbing a slice from this classic spot. It made it through a hurricane and a fire, and boy, am I grateful for that! I can't justify giving Sawmill five stars because, at the end of the day, it's a greasy eatery that sits on the boardwalk. There will always been drunk crowds, or the occasional indifferent waitress, or the mistake in the menu item. However, they have made some nice updates over the past few years that really elevated the place. For example, they have a nice outdoor seating area that puts you right 'in the action' on the Boardwalk, and they have added some really tasty and delicious items to their menu. In the summer, this place gets absolutely slammed. However, thanks to COVID, we have taken some weekend trips down the shore, and have been able to eat at the Sawmill with minimum wait times. The Sawmill is famous for their giant slice, so you have to get that at least once. The pizza is not as good as something you would get up north, but it's pretty good pizza for the beach. If you want something TASTIER, explore their menu. Any of their sandwiches are going to be a hit - my favorite is their cheesesteak wrap, but their pork and broccoli rabe sandwich is a close second. Even their salads are good, which is crazy to me. But the best part about The Sawmill is their fries - I have honestly never seen fries like these before. They're thick like steak fries, but corkscrewed like curly fries, and seasoned like waffle fries. They are absolutely delicious, so when you're at the Sawmill, DON'T get the side salad and instead opt for the fries! All in all, the Sawmill is here to stay. My darling girlfriend across the way, got the same order and did about the same amount of work to the plate as me. We ve been eating here 30 plus years. The Jumbo 27" Pizza has been our absolute favorite. However, on Wednesday, August 14, it was not.. pizza was burnt on one side. Hardly any cheese or sauce. Was way overcooked. Always on previous visits, the cheese would be so overabundant that we d have to wait until it cooled somewhat to dig in. I think this place is too big for its own good. The restaurant is massive and it takes a lot to have the staff run it and do it well. We were told a 45 minute wait time for 7 people but it ended up being over an hour. Personally I wasn't too annoyed at it but it did suck. The food came out really quick and was typical Jersey pizza, fries etc. The famous pizza was very good!! Why were the fries that weird shape? Our waitress was doing her best with all the tables and turnaround but we had to ask for silverware and for the empty plates to be taken away. I know this place gets crazy in the summer (yes we were here MDW), but maybe the busyness, size of restaurant, amount of staff to run it is too much for the place to be clean and have efficient service. I never had a bad experience at the Sawmill until today. My family and I asked for a table outside and the "so called" Hostess, Darian, was rude and obnoxious. When we told her she shouldn't have a attitude with the customers, she went inside to tell her friends, the "food runners". When they served us our meal, they started aggressively confronting us and said we should never curse at the hostess, which never happened. Our server was kind and friendly and promptly told one of the managers who then took the first round of drinks off our bill. We have been to the Sawmill many times and were never treated with such disrespect before. Pizza only review I refuse to miss the place whenever I'm back home for a visit. Growing up at the Jersey shore, I am an admitted pizza snob and I simply will not eat California pizza; there's no comparison. Side note, I was extremely disappointed this didn't make it into the book 'where to eat pizza'. Shocked. The SawMill has been a family fave since we first moved down the shore. I've eaten at every pizza place on the boards and no one beats their slice. I cannot attest to inside, service, etc. it's never been the same since the initial remodel in the 90's. I miss the all wood rustic interior with the villain tying the blonde maiden to the track. Bottom line: I only go to the SawMill express line directly on the boards & order my slice (which is bigger than my head). The crust is Jersey thin, and has the perfect combo of cheese and sauce. I just get the plain, nothing else is needed. Bottom line, you can't beat the price, especially considering the quality of the pizza. $5 for a huge slice & a fountain drink. And then enjoy the ocean view while hanging on the Jersey boardwalk. Hard to beat. read more

There menu changed slightly since the last time I was here (it has been a few years). I was looking for the eggplant wrap that was so good last time. We decided to split the spicy shrimp that comes with a giant garlic knot. The sauce the shrimp in was so good. It was thick and spicy. Good amount of shrimp. Then we split clams over linguini over white sauce. The white sauce was kind of bland. They really should have used the same sauce for the spicy shrimp. We ended up using the left over and adding it to the clams and linguini. It also came with another garlic knot. We saw how big the pizza slices were and decided to try it. The pizza is very good. The crust on the pizza itself could have been a little crispier but it was good at the top of the crust. We ended up sitting outside. Much quieter than sitting in the dining room. read more

Such a shame that young kids don't have proper restaurant training on how to treat customers!! They just don't give a shit!! So sad!! My husband and I are regular customers at The Sawmill since we moved to the area in 2022. We like the food and the waitstaff is really good. However, we have a favorite waiter - Chris. He is kind and attentive and is the reason we eat there so often. We just found out today that Chris is no longer at The Sawmill. This place has two different spots for outside dining. One of them is really nice, but the other was disgusting picnic tables with napkins and garbage all over the floor. The hostess cleaned our table and we sat down. I tried a Miami vice, which is a frozen strawberry daiquiri with a pina colada. There was more pina colada than daquiri. We started out with chili cheese fries and ahi tuna bits. The tuna was tasty, but you are only served 4 small peices. The chili fries were plentiful and delicious. I like beans in my chili, but I would like to point that out incase someone reading this does not know. I feel that can be a deal breaker for others with how they like their chili. I had gotten a pulled pork sandwich with cheese, spinach and broccoli. It came with bbq sauce, which was tasty. However, the broccoli was not cooked enough to my liking. The place is busy! It's right on the boardwalk with a direct view to the ocean. They give you one of those buzzing things to let you know when your table is ready. We sat outside, the tables had umbrellas to shield the sun. There was music right off to the side of us. The drinks were yummy and the waitress was personable and easy going. So I saw how huge the slices were and ordered that for lunch. Same for my Aunt, and the others ordered quesadillas which did look very good. For all the hype on the pizza though, it came out cold and tasted egh. Don't get me wrong, I ate it. Just DEFINITELY have had better. Nothing special about it, unfortunately. Bathrooms weren't that clean. And while I didn't go upstairs - the roof area, I hear its beautiful. It's actually used for wedding parties. At the time of my first legal drink, the Special was $2.25 for 2 slices and a soda or beer. Whole pie came with a pitcher of either. Note I said best deal NOT best pizza, or beer come to think of it. Nice cold, crisp angry orchard with blackened tuna bites with horseradish sauce were perfectly cooked medium rare and just what I wanted for lunch just wish they drained off the pan fry dripping so it didn't make the salad inedible ;-(...of course S HAD to get those crazy 'fries' don't know what they call them but they were greasy and delicious lol but so unhealthy, so we had to take an extra long freezing beach walk to work them off.
