This place is an absolute joke and I will never step foot in this place again! My buddy went in and ordered a water too sober up a little was 100% calm causing no issues at all. He finished his water and ordered another water the security guard then threw him out and said he was too hot like wtf is that so apparently you can't order just water or they kick you put. Then I left my back their with some items in it came back about 5 mins later yes I know a regular customer could have took it but... they were so sketchy about it when I asked if they found a bag for 1 refused to let me in to look for it even though I never got thrown out or caused a disturbance but when the security asked the bartender about it she started whispering to another security guard and immediately hid when she saw i saw her then without even looking told security no and they said they didn't have it and to go. Don't sleep on the best pizza I've ever had. While on a weekend day trip our friends suggested we stop by JR's on the boardwalk. So glad we did. JR's serves up pizza from Maruca's if you prefer a sit down meal. The pizza crust is crisp but chewy like any good NY Style pizza. The sauce is sweet and slightly chunky. They pair together perfectly to make an absolutely delicious tomato pie. We also sampled the Buffalo chicken and Philly cheesesteak hoagies. Both where hearty sandwiches with plenty of flavorful meat and veggies that where cooked well done without being overdone. read more

SEASIDE HEIGHTS: JR's Ocean Bar and Grill is open all-year-round on the boardwalk and they have a few outdoor tables to dine with your dog. You need to order inside then they'll being the food out to you. Alcohol is only permitted inside. The staff was very accommodating to making a cheese-less pizza (lol) and it came out really good! Been coming to Seaside for 10 years. First time in here. Never again. Bartender working on Saturday, May 20 was totally rude and obnoxious as soon as we sat down. Ordered 2 slices of pizza from Maruca's. He brought them out in about 2 minutes and said, "fresh out of the oven." Um, more like "fresh from the counter after sitting there for 3 hours." Cold. Soggy. Horrible. Ok, a big miss so far, we can just leave. The kicker was when Mr. Obnoxious, I guess showing off in front of the four or five 20-somethings at the bar, says loudly, "I just want to f***-off all day and give bad service all day." Yes, he said that. You can't make this sh*t up. If you are the owner of this place and you are reading this, please find some good, nice bartenders. Your bar won't be empty all the time. read more

Every year when I come to visit Seaside I most definitely ensure to find a spot on the beach close to JR's. My son loves their Italian sausage sandwich. But we enjoy the raw seafood bar, oysters, clams shrimp cocktails. And throughout the day we return for pizza, fried calamari and of course fresh lemonade & draft beer for me. There is the option of insidev air conditioned seating or outside seating which is my favorite because we stay in Okie swim wear no need to change enjoying the view of the beach and right on the boards Makes it easy without the hassle of carrying anything to the beach which is a plus for me. read more

Stopped in Friday night with a friend, so this review is just about the nighttime scene. Small bar located right in the middle of the boardwalk. While I was there, they had a really good DJ and a packed dance floor. To describe this place, think half bar and half club. The prices for drinks were not outrageous either. What is really nice is finding a place to dance without paying a cover charge at the door. Because it was so small, it seemed a little crowded, but it was overall still fun. The bartenders served people at a decent pace. There were about three of them behind the bar serving that night. However, there were SOOOO many people trying to get drinks here, it might take awhile for them to get to you. So with that said, here's my tip--do not start the night of drinking here. Go elsewhere then head over here for a cold beer and dance the night away. read more

Let me try to describe how utterly great JR's joint is to the uninitiated, and particularly to anyone who's read the initial non-review of the place. It's been around since 1940, and it's never really stopped being central to the boardwalk of Seaside Heights. As a kid your parents took the tribe there for oysters, clams, mussels, corn on the cob, and these frosty mugs of beer (twelve ounces, because more than that has a chance to grow warm). The corn on the cob was always good, and for whatever reason, it was always better at JR's. Today it's still a must-have on any trip there, but you can get a Paulaner on tap instead of a Schlitz. A Paulaner. For goodness sakes, if you go to Munich for Oktoberfest and gain entrance to the beer tent for Paulaner, you won't get a better half-liter. It's kid-friendly, and with two kids, I can't say enough about how accommodating the staff can be when you just want a table and some food, stat. And yeah, two Paulaner. -C read more

Located right on the boardwalk, you can't miss it with its huge beer mug sign, luring you to come in for a cold one. The most recent time we were here, we ordered the buffalo chicken wrap. It was average. You have to have separate tabs for the bar and the food, which is fine. Our servers were friendly and attentive. We stayed for a beer then it was time to move on. The times we have been here have been in the off season, so it's never too crowded. Decent spot for some bar grub and a beer. read more

Because a lot of places are closed in the off season along the boardwalk, I stepped in here and was grated by the friendly staff and ordered a slice of pizza and a Coke. They did not earn a 5 star because, c'mon, it is a boardwalk restaurant without all the fro-fru table settings, etc. It was great food. Emily was my server and Kiera was the host. Both of these young ladies enjoyed their work and made me feel at home. They had a great sense of humor and were a big part of the day. Emily was very attentive. July 4th is a very busy time at the boardwalk. I was able to get an air conditioned table - a luxury at the beach, without any problem. I had two dishes, and all the hosts and Emily helped me make up my mind. They suggested the Maguro's tomato pie and they were spot on. I also got a plate of raw oysters. Tomato pie is like pizza, but the cheese and sauce are served in "ribgs around the top of the pie. The crust was killer, perhaps the best I ever had. Sauce and cheese were excellent. Their selection of raw oysters were great. Thank heaven they knew how to purge the grit out of them. They were both sweet and succulent. I could have eaten 2 dozen. Another long staple in my life where JR's has not moved in many years though a remodel some years ago removed the easy entrance to the bar that used to run the length of the wall front to back that allowed the best people watching in town. Alas no mas. :( Now with optional inside seating (Same food) JR's has changed quite a bit. Just cheese steaks, and french fries and onion rings were had this past trip and Steaks were OK but not the rib eye that is expected. Rings and fries were awful and the seating area in the back especially right next to the swinging doors to the kitchen was hot and not very clean. Hands down, my favorite place to eat at the Seaside boardwalk. (Midway is a close second). From the lemonade, to sausage and pepper sandwich to their pizza (OMG THE PIZZA), you really can't go wrong here. They are quite famous for their raw bar, which isn't my thing but everyone I know who does like it, thinks it's the bees knees. Close to parking and basically every attraction on the boardwalk. Any great thing you would want to eat at the shore is here and done right, and if it's not they will make it right. We were there last Saturday. Crappy food. The grilled chicken tasted nasty. The pepper on it from a can. All the other stuff we had was super junk, but we paid high bucks for our order. We went on a weekday. A weekday is a workday just like anywhere else. Construction was going on across the street, but the boards were coming to life for the summer. I always liked JR's because of the convenience, with the ramps to the street and the open-air atmosphere. But yesterday, we noticed a few changes. The server removed our used plates, but also cleared our plastic-ware. The food was not up to par. The soda was undrinkable and tasted weird. My iced tea had a rotten lemon flavor. Our appetizer nachos were literally swimming in cheezy sauce. The olives were submerged in it. The dipping sauce for the mozzarella sticks was tasteless. While we were there, maintenance inside proceeded, including one incident where an exterminator walked by our table with a dripping can of pesticide. The smell of pesticide was in the air, until a server wiped it up barehanded with paper towels. It was quite nauseating with a stomach full of cheez wiz and ketchup salsa. We've been going there for 20 years, and we don't think we are going back to JR's. read more

We went here for beers, a way to start the evening at the jersey shore. The actual beers were fresh and well priced. The reason for the one star? They have one of those Internet jukeboxes that allow you to pick form an amazing array of songs and genres. Since we were in a reminiscent mood, we played songs from our youth - belly, ween and pavement, for example. All went well until the wu tang klan song came on. Interrupted by a bartender "miss, this is a family establishment" and he jumped back to the jukebox to UNPLUG the machine to get the song to stop playing. Beyond rude and totally unacceptable. Line moved quick manager and staff was professional. Nick Irabli (bouncer) kicked out a friend for no reason. Tons of ya witnessed what went down. Nick had some issue with him being there, separated him from the group, asked to speak to him outside and just said "bye". No scuffle. No issue. If there was police would have been involved and they weren't. My friend politely objected to the decision, closed his table with a 110% tip and left with class. Nick Irabli cost that bar money. We went to Aztec on the boardwalk instead. Shouldn't have people like that working there. Learn to put personal issues aside. I have been going to JRs since childhood when i lived in Ortley Beach during the summers and still love it. One of the best places to eat on the boards. Their cheesesteaks, sausage sammies and cheese fries are so good. Fresh seafood too..had the sushi once years ago..wasnt bad. Pizza is really good too. Also try the Corn on the Cob and Lemonade. Ive always preferred JRs over the Sawmill or Midway. Perfect place to grab lunch/dinner after a day on the beach or a nite on the boards. read more

So I had a group of friends came in to watch the boxing fights. As the fights stated the bar manager make the choice to remove all the bar stools to save 6" of space at the bar. The group of girls I was with now had to stand and hold their bags for 3 hours bc the bar manager was rude and just removed all bar stools. From now on I'll take my business and money else where. Nice job on pissing off girls at a bar and who were spending money at ur "bar". read more
