Love to come here for my birthday every year. Great service, great gluten free apps, mains and dessert. Also a fun drink menu with the closest thing I've seen to Butterbeer so far! The general ambience is upscale casual with nice fireplace touches, and the ability to sit outside on the patio is great when the weather is nice and mild. Prices are a little on the higher side but that's because the food is top notch. read more

My friends and I found it hard to choose what we wanted everything sounded so delicious, and when we received our meal it was just as mouthwatering as we had hoped. GABBY and KAT made sure we were more than well taken care of. We were laughing and carrying on the whole night. We even got a hug before we left, I loved it! We dined at the Sawyer for Super Bowl and it an experience to remember, the food, the drinks, the atmosphere and the service were all excellent! Our server Joey was especially cordial, we had kids in our group that made a mess but she was very polite and patient with them. So glad we found this gem! Best table in the patio with fire -- dining with snowfall at our feat. Ashley was so welcoming and hospitable and the new Kylie gave us superior service. Our food was a mix of comfort and high culinary cuisine. The New England clam chowder with chili oil was so good I got it for dessert. My King Salmon was cooked perfectly and I swapped the black rice for Tre garlic mashed potatoes. Crispy Caesar salad and stuff Gin Gibson's hit the spot. My husband raves about the stroganoff served with three kinds of beef, homemade noodles and the best and biggest mushrooms. The portions were so generous that we are enjoying our entrees all over again tonight! Every sip and bite were memorable. We definitely look forward to returning. (Good thing the Ritz was booked and out of reservations, otherwise, we wouldn't have found this special place on the hill at Schaefer's Mill.) Went here during a recent trip to Tahoe for a dinner with friends. It was a little confusing to get inside of because it's part of a larger property, but we the restaurant was really cute once we figured out where to go! The vibe inside was cute and dark, with lots of seating space available. Our waitress was such a star and so helpful as our group tried to navigate through the menu. We started with some cocktails and appetizers with the fried brussel sprouts and shisito peppers. The drinks were generally okay, with the old fashioned with the pecan infused whiskey being the biggest hit. The whiskey was sweet and delicious and somehow tasted something like pecan pie and I truly want to try and recreate it at home sometime. I ended up just ordering wings for my main course with another side of brussels because they were delicious. Wings were pretty good, super fried with lots of sauce. I would say the food was pretty good, but our waitress was such a star and enhanced the entire experience so much. Will definitely be going back! read more

Loved the restaurant ambiance and atmosphere! Everything was clean and very well designed. Our service from Jeboa was awesome! She was attentive, kind, helpful and very accommodating. We ordered a lot of everything to taste a little bit of it all. Our favorites were the mussels, the crispy brussel sprouts, the hummus and the new york strip entree. We will definitely be back to try more food. Also, everyone we came across from the floor manager to the greeter to the bartender and of course our server were so friendly. We stopped by The Sawyer for a late afternoon meal and found this place to be just beautiful! It is located in a golf course tucked away in Truckee at Schaffer's Mill. The entryway is gated but if you tell them that you are eating at the restaurant, they just wave you in. The restaurant overlooks parts of the beautiful golf course and it is so peaceful to sit on the edge of the patio. We called earlier in the day and the person who answered the phone said that they had Happy Hour from 4-6. When we inquired about HH, our server said they stopped doing it. It was OK though as the menu looked good. We started with a bottle of the Pinot Grigio ($44) and had: - Poke Bowl - just beautifully prepared and delicious! $21.00 - Small Caesar salad - it was OK - nothing too special $7.00 The tables were well spaced for COVID, temperature check at the door and they all wear masks. Our server was so attentive and friendly and she made sure that we were well taken care of. This place is really all about the location and enjoying the beauty of the grounds. Again, it was weirdly seasoned. My son loved his cheese pizza. It was the highlight of the meal. The comped part of the meal - they should have comped the whole thing. Late review* We came in with a party of about, 8ish people. We ordered very simple dishes (mostly burgers) and the place was not packed. It took 2 hours to get our food out to us. We actually had to ask our server as we were never approached proactively and were told the kitchen was backed up. The server was very friendly but that didnt make up for a 2 hour wait. The food, burgers couldnt stay together and were breaking apart in a way that when a burger has been sitting for too long after being cooked. Plant Based Vegan is why we came to Sawyers. Wowza!!! Amazing service with Brian, from Long Island. He hooked us up with an entree as I picked Grilled Asparagus, Brussel Sprouts and Mushrooms, that were served with meat entres. They were served on a creamy, sweet Parsnip Puree! The vegetables were cooked to a perfection without an overuse of oil. Very impressed. We also ordered the Portobello Mushroom and Grilled Polenta served with fresh Basil and a Red Pepper Sauce Shmere. If I could have liked the plates, I would have. Very yummy delicious from the beautiful building, decor, service and presentation/preparation of the cuisine. I gave 3 stars for Ambiance....come on!!! 5 sports screens, playing 5 different games in your face!!!! Ugggggg. I would recommend sitting in a booth away from the bar, however you would miss Brian the bartenders expertise. Desert was toasted Bourbon Pecans scattered on a Berry Compote. This place popped up when I was looking at restaurants in Truckee this week, so we decided to try it for dinner. First, for non-members of this exclusive gated golf community must make a reservation first. The setting was lovely - the building is perched a bit above the golf course, and the outdoor seating had great views., The indoor restaurant was very elegant, yet casual. We opted for indoors, since it was a bit chilly outside. Service was a bit slow to start, nobody stopped by for a good 8-10 minutes until I got someone's attention. After that, the service was fine. First, their wine list is very decently priced and has a wide variety of options at different price points. The food is also reasonably priced, and the variety is quiet good. We started with the garlic knots and they were great. I had the stir fry and he had the salmon. Both were simple but good. I'd say the salmon was a very light dinner, as it really appeared to just come with some greens and the fish. Mine was mixed veggies over rice with teriyaki sauce. We opted for dessert since our dinners seemed quite light. We had the butter cake, which was just fine, nothing to write home about, but enjoyable. The only complaint I really have is the automatic 18% gratuity. I find this irritating, and quite frankly, it is probably harming the staff. I normally tip around 20%, but opted to not add any tip when I saw this. Definitely would come back if we didn't want to head to downtown Truckee. read more

Glad to have discovered a solid spot in the area, though a little off-the-beaten-path in terms of Truckee's bustling businesses. The open-to-the-public restaurant is located in a gated community club after a short drive. Getting there and parking is easy, especially at 2pm on a sunny weekend day (Happy Hour 2-6pm Fri-Sun!). Wish it was colder or warmer enough to sit on the outside patio with fire pits. The interior is simple, clean, and modern. Wait staff was friendly & polite. Heavy pours on pint-sized cocktails: fun! Food was mostly spot-on, especially the chicken wings w/ sriracha honey and meatballs. Great place to stack up on food and share. Unfortunately, the Fried Chicken entree was a disappointment--two dry chicken breasts with wood-fired vegetables that smelled and tasted like the gas from said grill. Great food, great service- a fantastic place to go in Truckee! Went for a birthday party so got to try lots of things: many of us thought the short rib tacos were the best; ginger bowl, pizza, salmon were all good, but their DESSERTS were SO GOOD!! Skillet cookie w ice cream, Butter cake w berries, chocolate pudding goblet - all so good!!! Also have to give a shoutout to the staff who were super accommodating and friendly. Our server Lane was so patient with the group of kids we brought, and the manager(?) Denise Sullivan was also very understanding and accommodating of managing our large group, getting them to order in a timely manner etc. As an anxious diner, I was able to relax knowing they were so understanding. After arriving early for our reservation, my fiancée and I were seated a table near the restaurant entrance outside even though there were plenty of other seats available. When I asked to be moved to the other patio I was told there were only larger tables available. After the hostess left, I asked a very young and nice busboy if we can move to a table that was on the same patio we were on but away from the door and he said of course and we moved (shout out to him). Little did I know this move was not without consequence... We waited 20 minutes for a waitress to come to our table even though a waitress came to a larger table next to ours multiple times. Eventually we were greeted by one of the nicest waitresses I've ever had named Kat (shout out to her) who noticed we hadn't been helped and took over. She immediately apologized and offered us free dessert for the wait. The food was just okay except for the dessert (buttercream cake), which she recommended and was amazing. While there were a select few really wonderful people who rescued the night, we will not be visiting this restaurant next time we are in town. read more

This whole complex is adorable! I loved the atmosphere of the restaurant with the fire place in the center and the fire pit outside. My group was a large one celebrating father's day and were seated in the wine room. If you are member you are allowed to rent a wine locker. The staff was very sweet but they do have to work on their timing. We had a reservation for 7 pm and probably ordered around 7:45 because we just couldn't decide but then the food did not come out until 9:30. They did apologize and brought out one appetizer for 10 people which helped a bit but everyone devoured their food when it came out. The food was delicious and perfectly hot and seasoned so I'm happy the quality was still very good. read more

Had a great meal and a few cocktails at the Sawyer. The restaurant is located inside the country club of the golf course. We just got in from Salt Lake City and the hostess was able to get us in all day seat my family within 15 minutes. The restaurant is surrounded by a spectacular golf course and million dollar homes with million dollar views. We started off with the roasted Brussels and a couple of grapefruit margaritas. My wife had the beef cheek stroganoff with hand made pasta and I had a grilled steak wedge salad. Both meals were executed perfectly, even though I thought the salad could of used more bacon. Haha. There's never enough bacon. My kids enjoyed their meal and we all shared the cast iron grilled cookie and ice cream. One word on the dessert...HOT! This cookie comes out hot straight out of the wood fired oven. It was a nice dinner and I'd return for drinks or meal, or both! read more

Nice spot in the private golf course of Schaffer's Mill. We were able to secure a reservation online at Opentable during the past busy holiday weekend. Lively atmosphere with a bar. We had attentive service. Menu had a variety of options. We decided to start with fried Brussels as recommended. The tempura batter gave it a light crunchy coat. For dinner, chicken fried chicken and the butternut squash pasta. The crispy pancetta, wild mushrooms were great with the light cream sauce. Definitely ask for the honey sriracha for the chicken - power kick! For dessert, the key lime pie. Served deconstructed and was amazingly light and fluffy. read more

Visited for dinner recently and was extremely pleased with the experience. This restaurant is located inside the Schaffer's Mill golf club / development. They had good safety measures and total compliance. We dined outside on the patio. Their heaters were ok, but we were wearing ski clothing and all was fine. The food was sophisticated, generous and totally satisfying. We samples the hummus plate, pot roast, chicken fried chicken and filet entrees. All were excellent. If you're in the area, stop by for a bite. Next time we would likely go during the daytime, I think the view from the patio would be very nice. read more

I have been pretty disappointed by The Sawyer the last few times we have dined there. Most recently - several of the menu items were unavailable, (meatballs, wings and all pizzas!!) however, we didn't find out about that until we ordered and already had hoped for those. We chose to order a couple of alternative appetizers that the kids were excited about. Those never came at all. Ranch for kids meals was even too challenging. The server told us that they were overwhelmed with larger parties. It was strange because from the time we walked in - until the time we walked out - we never saw a large party. We live in Napa, however, stay at Northstar once a month. Too many other reliable food options. We won't be back to The Sawyer anytime soon. read more

Waitress was extremely rude to my in-laws when they had a complaint about the food(and rightfully so, it was burnt). Great choice for consistency in food, service, with a great view. I'm surprised by how many haven't been yet so add it to your restaurants to try this year. Just go for an awesome pizza and wine or beer. During warm months it's one of my favorite spots to sit outside. It's now cold, but grab a warm drink and cozy by the fire place while waiting for your table. Definitely get a reservation as it can get busy. I'm grateful for their adherence to providing a safe place to eat during these times. No place is perfect but if your going to spend your hard earned funds and it needs to be worth the calories. The staff at Sawyer did an amazing job (literally) going out of their way to make our dining experience unpleasant. Yes, we were a large group of 18, celebrating our mothers 85th birthday, so we were divided into two groups of 9, no problem there. When we called ahead to see if we could be seated near one another, the answer was no. We made an adjustment to the reservation the day of the dinner, and then we were told we could be seated near one another if we paid them $250. We declined this generous offer, and they seated one table of 9 inside and another outside. Funny that there was LOTS of room either inside or outside for the other group of 9, but they intentionally refused to allow the groups to be seated near one another. Then it was one hour, 25 minutes from seating until our main courses arrived. Did they ever once inform us or apologize to us because there would be a lengthy delay? No. Did the manager visit? No. Were they busy? No. We are not needy people, and I have been in the industry so I'm familiar with these kinds of conditions. We paid the bill in full without question and paid their 20% included tip without question. But the consideration of the management most certainly deserved zero tip. The food? It was fine, but overshadowed by the intentionally shoddy treatment we received. read more

Service was excellent and food was excellent! I had my dogs with me so we sat outside. It was a little chilly so they offered to close the shade to close off the outside patio. They offered blankets several times and checked on us multiple times. I got the bacon and bleu wedge salad with a side of chicken for my dogs. The waitress made sure the kitchen grilled up a plain chicken since it for my dogs instead of the already marinated one. For entree I got the salmon which was mouth watering.
