It had been a very long time since we checked out the serving spoon! And it was just what I remembered. It's a smaller setting, so be prepared to wait, but the food is good and the service is great! We waited for about 25 mins and got a booth in the back. We started with coffees and a friend asked for a sweet tea. She was brought out hot tea with lots of honey, think there was a bit of a language barrier but we worked it out. I ordered the catfish, macaroni and cheese and greens. The catfish was by far the best thing I had eaten. A friend ordered breakfast, eggs, potatoes, toast, and bacon. The potatoes were seasoned so well! Our other friend ordered the ribeye steak and would recommend. It was served kind of bloody and needed to be sent back. The waffle we ordered was too dense and the yams were overly sweet. I went in for takeout on a Monday, and it was packed. Lots of regulars (I'm assuming), and they were joking with the staff and knew them on a first name basis. Parking is tight and cramped. I had to park on a side street. The food was disappointing. I requested softly scrambled eggs, and they were runny and wet. The waffle was chewy and flat and very dense. It was also soft like a well-used sponge. The chicken patties were salty. I could not eat much. The home potatoes were good. The salmon croquettes were small, chewy, and had a mushy texture. I just have one slight problem with them; and I can't figure it out; my food never seems to be really hot. It's usually warm but never hot. It was packed so I asked someone who was waiting how long they've been waiting they told me about 20 minutes but it was worth the wait and they were so right! We were there late morning, right before the church crowd. We had an order of French toast, fried chicken wings, grits, a fried egg and an order of waffles, chicken wings, southern potatoes, & scrambled eggs. Our order came out fairly quickly in about 10 minutes. The restaurant is family-owned and that shines through in each and every interaction. I spoke to another party at a neighboring table and one of them made mention of having dined at the restaurant the prior night. They raved about the pork chops and the turkey chops. Cockroach found on plate crawling on food! I have gone here twice before with no incident, but this will be my last, so I want to share my experience with everyone. Servers were nice but finding a cockroach on your food isn't! I was not able to find their healthscore anywhere that was visible to the customers eye, so that it got me to think that there was something behind the scenes. The servers nor manager were not shocked enough for me! The manager did offer to remake my meal. And honestly, I can't believe that I stayed. If there was one roach, that means that there are many, and I just cannot believe that the manager wasn't as appalled, and didn't offer to come my whole meal, but just compd one. This was such a disgusting experience, and it's very sad to see that something in the neighborhood that I looked forward to telling my friends about, is something that will no longer be a good experience but a gross one, by now telling them about my cockroach experience. read more
