Been wanting to try this place for weeks now! Came around 11 on a weekday, and there was no wait at all. Parking lot was pretty full though and many tight spaces, so that was a bit of a hassle. I ordered the French toast with sausage on the side. Everything was delicious, the French toast was fluffy and had lots of flavor. Service was attentive and kind. The overall ambiance of the place is very homey, very diner-style. I'm not sure if I'd make a trip just to eat at this place, but it's convenient when you're in the area. read more

I ordered in person for carry out first and that meal was delicious. The staff were very nice and provided lots of condiments. But when I ordered again via the website the same thing with a side of collards. My breakfast meal was missing toast and cheese on the eggs but it was all included in the order and I paid for it. So that was disappointing. I would suggest dining in or ordering in person to avoid this. Otherwise it's a great local place to eat. read more

The food was ok, fresh, hot for the most part and flavorful. My only thing is how the catfish was prepared. I prefer more corn meal breading and they use more flour. Again my preference. The service was good, it's an Inglewood staple. So happy to have tried this place after a few years. It's still a good breakfast spot. read more

Walked over from our Airbnb, and since it's Saturday morning, there was an hour to an hour and a half wait, and it was SO worth it! We were able to get some grocery shopping done in the meantime. Service was great, food was bomb, can't recommend enough. I literally ascended when I ate my waffle with cinnamon. They heat up the syrup before they give it to you too. Grits were bomb. This place is amazing!! My boyfriend and I came by here yesterday while in the area and they did not disappoint. Their waffles are super yummy and they have the best bacon. My boyfriend had their omelette and he loved it. There was no wait time, service was wonderful, and the food was delicious. It's about an hour from my place but it will be worth the trip next time we come. read more

Best breakfast in Inglewood hands down! Awesome staff and delicious fresh breakfast/lunch. Short wait times if you come in the morning on a weekday.. we only waited 5 minutes to be seated. The French toast was my favorite because it melted in your mouth with every bite you take. Fresh, warm, sweet goodness! The food was as classic as a diner can get, with African American staples like grits and red snapper available as well. The service made me feel right at home even though it was my first time. I was in Inglewood for church on a Sunday and decided to have brunch after and found this diner spot. AMAZING! It is a neighborhood spot and was absolutely DELICIOUS! I ordered the shrimp and grits. The shrimp were cooked perfectly and the sauce and grits were amazing! I also ordered the fried catfish with home fries and two over easy eggs. The catfish was so moist and flavorful. I also ordered a side of buttered grits. Whatever or however they cooked them was just so heavenly. It must've been all the butter that was on them. Finally I ordered their fried cornbread. Again it was just amazing! Definitely want to come back and yes I did order all that and I was alone... Brittany my server was amazing helping me maneuver through all the food. Needless to say I he'd leftovers but not much. Get there early or be prepared to wait for a table but definitely worth the wait. It's a small joint with family vibes. Stopped here for breakfast on a Saturday around 10am with friends and wow, we loved it! There was a waitlist when we got there but we only had to wait about 15 minutes. We each ordered a Signature spoon and each choose different breads and meats to share. For breads, we tried the pancakes, French toast, and waffles. My personal favorite was the pancakes, they were so fluffy! For meats, we tried bacon, chicken wings, and catfish. My personal fave was the catfish, I never thought I would enjoy fish for breakfast! The service was spectacular. Quick and friendly, what more can you ask for. The restaurant also seems to be very community based, which I love and is hard to find here in LA. Hold up, am I missing something? With excitement, we drove to the serving spoon since we were in lemur park. The ratings were super high so we thought "hey, why not?" Parking was limited but Music was blaring, people are waiting, it felt like a summer afternoon. The vibe was chill And the young man by the front door entrance was super sweet. He mentioned it would be about 45 minute wait or take out would be about 10 minutes, so I grabbed a menu for takeout. Once I decided what I wanted, I waited by the counter. The girl at the counter had an attitude and I thought OK, must be part of the vibe, whatever. I then walk out to wait in my car, held the door open for some customers and no thank you, no acknowledgment, nothing. Okay... am I invisible here? 10 minutes past and I go back in to retrieve my order and it isn't ready so I wait, New Girl being trained to be a host chitchat with customers, blah blah. Five minutes later, My order comes out and I get up for it, new girl hands it to me in disgust, does not look at me.. again no acknowledgment, does not even look at me... wtf? Ok... First timer here checking out what the hype is about. From entering everyone is so personable and friendly. Makes me want to work here . The food was made to order and did not take long at all. The lack of effort put into my pancakes, omelette, waffle along with the increased prices, is the reason for this two star rating. Prior to COVID, this restaurant was definitely one of our faves. Now it appears that The Serving Spoon is cooking food like a school cafeteria. For a meal that I paid over $50 for, I am NOT a satisfied customer. My son did not like his flavorless waffle and my cakey pancakes reminded me of having breakfast at our school's cafeteria. My omelette with veggies weren't sautéed (undercooked) and they probably used some sort of liquid egg substitute... a COMPLETE total let down! My potatoes were cool, but not the best I've had. Hubby and I were in LA and decided to stop by for brunch. 1st time on Friday it was sooo busy we ended up leaving as we had to get to a game at Sofi and couldn't be late. We tried again on Saturday and waited for a very short period of time. It's important to get there early but entire party must be present to be seated. The ambiance is a typical diner with counter seats as well. We ordered our food and waited for a few minutes before our meals came. I did the shrimp and grits with toast on the side and my hubby did grits, eggs, turkey chops and cornbread. My hubby loved his food and it was well flavored. My shrimp and grits were okay a bit different in flavor from what I'm used to and I added a bit of hot sauce. I ordered a to go plate for my parents- fish, fried chicken, Mac and cheese and greens. They enjoyed their food as well. We'll come back when in the area. Oh the guy who bust the tables took my toast plate without asking if I was done. When I said I will eating it he was like oh but by then I didn't want it anymore as he had the entire plate. Definitely didn't like that. read more

It was 1983, Harold E. Sparks, a handsome young man from Hamilton, Ohio leaves the security of a foreman position at Fisher Body, a division of General Motors, and moves to Inglewood, CA to fulfill his dream of opening a soul food restaurant. "The Serving Spoon" TM The idea of providing excellent food that is not only "Love At First Bite", but a place where customers feel like family, quickly caught on. "The Spoon," as often called by many, has served customers ranging from entertainers to politicians to the neighbor next door. All in the spirit of making you feel at home, with food that's good for the soul. Harold's two of three grandchildren now own and operate the family business, and are developing "Urban Eateries" in key markets throughout the United States.

What is there to say about The Rusty Pot Cafe? Actually, there is a lot to say and I am going to get into that right now. So strap on your safety belts because we're blasting off to good ol' Inglewood. Located in the heart of Downtown Inglewood, this place truly is a gem. I first came here back in 2018 when myself and a fellow activist known as the Angry Gay Pope came to Inglewood to do an infiltration of the Scientology Org located directly across the street. I could go on and on about that place. But this review isn't about Scientology. It's about The Rusty Pot Cafe. But before we could begin our work, we decided to go grab a bite to eat. This was how I first discovered The Rusty Pot Cafe. So fast forward to 2026, I found myself back in Los Angeles. I had traveled there with a friend of mine who had some legal matters to attend to at the LAX Courthouse. We won't get into that either. So instead of sitting around in court all morning, I decided to head on over to The Rusty Pot Cafe. I ended up walking all the way from the LAX Courthouse over to Downtown Inglewood. For those of you reading this who live in LA may be asking yourself, why didn't he just take the Metro? That's a good question. By the time I arrived at The Rusty Pot Cafe I had worked up quite an appetite. One of the first things I noticed upon arrival is that they still had the same style sign hanging over the entrance. It's like one of those banner type of signs with the businesses name and phone number on it. You know the kind you'd see hanging on the side of a flatbed truck during a parade. I love it. I like how they haven't changed the sign's style. To me a sign like this ads character to the place. Plus it brought back memories from my original visit here. Upon walking into The Rusty Pot Cafe I was immediately flooded with a boatload of memories. This place was exactly how I remembered it. White walls with black tables and pieces of art hanging on the walls. It's not over the type flashy. But not a Plain Jane kind of a place either. More of a humble kind of a feel. Just enough character to make you feel right at home. Or at least to me it did. Anyways, I walked over to one of the tall tables and sat down. It wasn't long before I was greeted by a friendly, and handsome, Latino waiter. He was friendly and had the smile of a Hollywood actor. But not a phony kind of way that you see at a lot of restaurants where the servers are constantly trying to upsell you. It was that of a waiter who really cares about the customers he is serving. Now I'm not going to be shy when I say that The Rusty Pot Cafe has the best burger in all of Los Angeles. I know that may seem like a bold statement. But it's true. I've eaten at a lot of burger joints in and around LA and I've stuffed some tasty burgers into my belly. But none of them have tasted near as good as The Rusty Pot Cafe's burger. It puts In-N-Out's burgers to shame. The angus beef is soooooooo delicious and they cook it just the way meat should be cooked for a burger. Not well done and not rare either. But just enough so that those wonderful flavors come out of the patty and into your mouth. My oh my did this hit the spot. So did the flavor able fries that were served with the burger. Seriously The Rusty Pot Cafe's house burger is AMAZING! I highly recommend it. This burger is better than sex. The service at The Rusty Cafe is also top notch. The waiters were very attentive and are always checking on the customers to see if any of us needed more coffee or water or another margarita. Hold it. They don't serve margaritas here. You got to go to Los Amigos for that. But I think you get the idea. I really dig this. One thing I hate is when you go somewhere to eat and the servers let your drink go empty. Then you got to flag someone down in order to get some more coffee or whatever you're drinking. That is such rubbish. But that is not a problem at The Rusty Pot Cafe. Their servers will make sure your cup gets refilled before it goes empty. These folks are right on top of it. So if you have gotten to this point, I am sure you will see that I really love The Rusty Pot Cafe. I live about 3 hours north of Los Angeles and I would make a trip down there just so I can go eat at The Rusty Pot Cafe. And that's real talk. So if you happen to be in the LA area and want to fill your belly with some delicious food, I highly recommend that you make the trek over to Downtown Inglewood and check out The Rusty Pot Cafe. Their Banana Matcha is hands down the best I've ever had, and the Espresso Tonic with real fruit purée is just as good. The croissant and bagel were both delicious and generously filled. The space is huge, with plenty of tables and couches, making it perfect for working or just relaxing. The staff is incredibly friendly, and they're open from 5:30 AM to 11 PM, which is almost unheard of for a coffee shop. Now whenever I'm in the area, I can't help but stop by. One of my favorite coffee shops in LA.

Now that I'm looking at the photo I took of the sandwich, there wasn't much cilantro on there at all. The pickled cabbage was at the very bottom buried in between all the bread.

The menu has a nice variety without feeling overwhelming. I had the chicken salad, and the chicken was tender, well-seasoned, and full of flavor. The drinks are great, and the pastries are good too -- I'd personally love them just a little softer inside, but still enjoyable. The space has good energy, comfortable vibes, and gets a nice breakfast and lunch rush, which says a lot. Front of house could use a little more support during busier times, but overall, this is a Latino-owned local spot worth supporting. Pedro and the team are doing something special here. Good food, good vibes, and a place I'd definitely come back to.

The Serving Spoon has the best "soul food" in greater L.A. Soul food is supposed to be cheap and hearty - it's supposed to contain no-frills ingredients, cost less than $15 per entrée, be served in a divey restaurant in a not-so-nice neighbourhood and be cooked by an old lady that looks like Moms Mabley. The Serving Spoon delivers on all of those (although I didn't see the cooks so I couldn't determine if they were Mableyish enough). This place seems to be a pillar of the Inglewood/Ladera Heights/Crenshaw/Baldwin Hills black community. It's always packed, and on a Sunday you can expect to wait up to an hour. The last time I stopped in for lunch on a weekday I had the oxtails (served as a special every Wednesday). They were fall-off-the bone tender, not too fatty, and nicely seasoned. On previous visits I've had the fried catfish (delicious), fried chicken (a bit disappointing...not as good as Roscoe's or Johnnie's Pastrami) and chitlins (also delicious). I ordered the collard greens and red beans and rice as my 2 sides and they were well prepared, although I would have preferred if the collards were drained before serving to get rid of the bitter broth. On previous visits I've had their black-eyed peas (outstanding) and their yams (sickeningly sweet). The oxtails + 2 sides cost $14.95, which is a fair price. Other entrees typically cost between $8.95 and $15.95, which is reasonable considering the large portions and high quality. The staff are all super-friendly and treat you like a house guest, but when the place is especially busy they can get a bit frazzled and service can suffer. The overall cleanliness of the restaurant is OK, but I would like it to be a bit cleaner (i.e. no spilt food on the floor, counters and tabletops wiped better). The restaurant is located in a strip mall with a decent size parking lot, but since the joint is often so crowded the lot is usually full. May have been a little out of our minds to try score a seat at The Serving Spoon on Super Bowl weekend Saturday morning, days after Eater posts a feature article, noting it as one of the "must eats" when visiting LA. Expecting a decent wait, by the already building crowd, I put our name down for counter or table, whichever was available first, and after about 30 minutes or so, a couple of counter spots opened up. There was a great energy in the lot where locals and visitors waited, repping their respective jerseys, as well as inside the diner itself. Now the food - So many options and combinations, and peering at the dishes the other diners are enjoying, it's quite difficult to choose. I got the Jerry (3) pancakes w/chicken wing splits with eggs sunny side up. Super fluffy pancakes, plump flavorful (all about that skin) wings and the perfect runny on those eggs. Plentiful enough to take half home for a round 2. My friend got the chicken and waffles, which also looked delicious. The food came up pretty quickly considering how packed they were, service and check-up were great, and one of the best breakfast experiences in the city. Do you love comfort food? Do you love breakfast? Do you love delicious fried goodness?! This is the place for you. I got the yelp $10 for $20 deal and decided to finally use the deal yesterday! We ordered 1) the catfish (breakfast) + grits + eggs + cornbread (our choice) and 2) chicken & waffles. The catfish was fried DELICIOUSLY - perfect crispy batter on the outside with juicy and tender meat inside. It was my first time having grits so I have nothing to compare it to... but it was very smooth and buttery. I like that they add cinnamon to the chicken & waffles - yummm. My favorite thing about this spot is the service. Everyone was SO friendly and SO inviting. As we left, the owners (the older couple I think?) asked us how everything was and asked us what we ordered and hoped they would see us back again. Everybody was GENUINELY nice and gave you genuine smiles, it felt like everybody was happy to be there. And I love their cute little signs around the restaurant with happy and inspiring quotes. Many individuals here tend to stay at the tables long after they've finished their meal and paid, which has increased the wait time. Our server was extremely courteous and attentive. The menu is small and lacks a variety of selections. They are more simple and classic foods, such as pancakes and eggs. They have a parking space immediately in front, but it was full when we came, so we parked in the Baptist Church parking lot, which is permitted according to the signs. As previously stated, the Fried Chicken Breast was really wonderful. I seldom order chicken for breakfast, but after seeing so many positive reviews and so many other customers eating it, I decided to give it a try. These were a little softer, but the hint of cinnamon was great. The staff was friendly and enthusiastic, the restaurant was small with a nice down-home dining atmosphere! There was a bit of a wait for a Monday morning. We were seated in about 30 minutes. Overall, it was a good dining experience, and I will definitely be back to try other items on the menu. read more
