First visit review Order the yam fries. You don't really need anything else with some cocktails. It is a huge order of hot crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside salty sweet yams. Also ordered the peri peri chicken tacos which REALLY needs some fresh cilantro, pico, pickled onions, or slaw. It needs some color and crunch to compliment as it is otherwise bland and very visually unpleasing . Service was very nice and place was clean! read more

Great place for brunch with locally sourced ingredients in Warwick. There's parking although might be difficult if it's busy. Very cool ambiance and interiors when you enter. Relatively small place. Service was pretty good. Got seats at the bar. Got 2 loaded Marys' which costs 14$ and the drink itself only tastes alright although has quite a few garnishes/additions. Also tried a pomosa and adult chocolate milk both of which were pretty good. For food, got the breakfast burger (medium rare) which was amazingly delicious. One of the best I've had so far. Fries were pretty good too. Also got the lobster roll. Decent amount of lobster present although a bit too much mayo and costs 21$. Not sure if it was thaaaaat good. Overall great experience here. Tad bit expensive but we also got some pricey items. Would def recommend coming here if in the area. read more

The wait server finally came over to take our order , and we never saw her again. She was folding napkins the entire time we were there. Someone else served our food . The food was ok , we went when they first opened so it was not busy . Oh yes we were getting ready to leave , stepping down from the booth, and she reached over us to get the check . The Shanty is a trendy spot that shines on its small plates. To start, the wings here are probably my favorite that I've pretty much have tried to date. They are perfectly crispy and doused in a sweet and salty soy glaze that makes every bite loaded with flavor. I've also tried the hummus nachos, which are a refreshing and delicious take on nachos, and the lobster roll is nothing short of excellent. The entreés here, I would say, don't really live up to the same reputation. I've tried the salmon special and flat iron steak, and, although both were satisfying, I wasn't really as blown away. The short rib polenta, however, was delectable. Overall, the Shanty is very creative with its plating and flavors. If looking for a good lobster roll or wings, this is the place to be. read more

I came in for the lobster roll and missed the season by a couple of days. As disappointed as I was, that was the only disappointment. The food was really good and surprisingly the fish and chips and wings were on a surprisingly different level. I live many miles inland so the fish and chips I am accustomed to often taste more like water than fish. NOT HERE!, the fish and chips was delish! You could taste the fish and feel the texture of fish. It was fresh fish and served with pride. The malt vinegar was a plus. The wings were splendid, cooked very well. They were crispy and wet and were slightly sweet with just enough spice. Who knew a place that specialized in fish could get the wings right too. The staff were friendly and very helpful with the menu and selections. All the food was delicious, hot and better than expected. The prices were reasonable and the wait was minimal for the crowd present. The place is quaint, family style seating and clean. Can't wait to return for the lobster rolls! read more

I drove down for brunch just to try the Lobster Roll. The food portions on the sandwich were excellent as was the preparation. I just wish they could have added just a hint of salt or seasoning to the lobster. The service was great. read more

Solid breakfast spot On the warwick/EG boarder. I have been waiting to go here for quite some time to be honest... I walked in and we were seated right away in the last booth. we ordered a bunch of stuff - the orange juice was from concentrate which was a big turn off. i turned it back because come on if i'm spending money for breakfast i'm gonna at least want tropicana of simply.... this was hood or something wack. the food definitely made up for it though. My mom got the fruit, dad got the hamburger scramble and my boy got the breakfast burger. Everything was solid - i especially liked the eggs benedict with spinach and tomato. Oh and i had the nitro ice coffee that was actually crack - so goooood!!!!! service was great. the girl was attentive and polite. i respect this place because they make it work with the limited kitchen space they have. i'll be back to try the french toast and drinks for a boozy brunch. 5/5 stars because i'm not a jerk it's just orange juice but pls get fresh squeezed lol read more

I heard a lot about this place and finally made the trek to it. It was worth it! It's super small inside, which made it a bit loud, but that's OK. We sat at the bar and the bartender was very nice and attentive. Great beer and cocktail selection. The also have Nitro cart So based on recommendations, we were told to get the biscuits, they were ah-maze-ing! It was like poutine, but with biscuits! I had the Bibimbap without the meat, it was fantastic. It was full of flavor. Whether you are looking for a nice place to go for brunch, a creative cocktail, or dinner with friends, the Shanty is the place to go in Warwick. They specialize in inovative gastropub style dishes and fantastic cocktails. I went for brunch there for the first time (I've had many dinners there) on mother's day and they did not disappoint. I had the lobster benidect. Price was up there at 25 bucks, however it was exacuted to perfection. It was draped in one of the best Hollandaise sauces I've ever had! All of their food is farm to table and local. If you go there for dinner order a burger or their "tv dinner" I think you will be pleasently surprised. Oh and by the way, I don't hand out 5 stars willienilly .... This is the first restaurant in Warwick that I have awarded 5 stars. read more

Last year we loved The Shanty, but, lately not so much. I'm wondering if there is a new chef...I've had several meals that were extremely salty, some new menu items with just too many competing flavors. Keep it simple. The staff is always great, and I love the atmosphere. Next time we may just stop by for a drink at the bar. read more

We came here today for Sunday brunch, super cute interior. Enough room to be cozy but I didn't feel like I had to whisper during conversation. I had the lobster roll, it was pretty tasteless, thankfully the perfectly cooked fries made up for it. My gf had Caesar salad with lobster, she thought it was good. The service was awesome and our waitress was funny. They accept reservations, which is always a plus for people like me who hate to wait in line. Plenty of parking available. Nice place for good food and friendly atmosphere. I got lobster roll and flash fried brussel sprouts. It was a lot of lobsters! Sprouts were tasty also. Allagash draft was similar to Blue Moon. Not bad. My hubby got rack of lambs and sprouts. He got 4 pieces. It didn't look like a lot but he said it was a good portion. All in all, everything was good. The reviews were mixed on this restaurant, but I like to keep an open mind, so we gave it a shot. The website mentions that they close from 3-4 pm and reservations were suggested. 4:15 pm we arrived and only a few cars were in the lot. We were greeted and asked if we had reservations. We didn't, but were able to get a table. The bar area was busy. There were 2 other tables occupied and us. Service was lukewarm, water glass had leftover lipstick residue. I received a beer with no glass. I went to the bar where our waitress was talking to other staff and asked for a glass. The glass had water spotting residue, so I skipped using it. The appetizer that was mentioned, but not on the menu was corn dogs. The plate arrived, was unappetizing looking, and tasted odd. The coating was half off, crumbly, and didn't go with a bratwurst. The good was it was taken off the bill and the description given was missing the bratwurst part, which she apologized and handled well. The fish and chips were delicious, fresh, white, flaky meat and no greasy heavy batter. I did not enjoy my service. I just don't know why whenever I go into a restaurant such as these that the service seems to be less intuitive. My waitress she did not seem to come by my table to check on me and when I try to catch her attention, she still is never looking my way. I asked for the manager Amber and explained why it was so hard to get the attention of the server and we she (The manager) does not go around checking on tables to see if they enjoyed their time while dinning-in. I been eating a lot to know that Amber was the manager from the work task that she was performing. The answer I got was that she does go around tables unless there is a problem. Eating at so many places even the Thirsty Beaver and The Cozy Grill has always had their managers check on me. This was new to me. Maybe the only place that has this policy. We had a understanding at the end of my meal. I was able to explain my situation she listened and she apologize for any misunderstanding my issues with service and accommodations due to my allergies. It wasn't the worst service nor the best. However, this is my second time in five years going to this place and I still am having issues. Maybe I will give it another try in another 3 to 5 years if I'm still in the state. read more

The desert was excellent. Egg cheese cake had egg and nest looking chocolate frosting which made it look in theme for easter. It had nice creamy cheese flavor with chocolate frosting and good crust at the bottom. Carrot cake was moist and delicious. Service was ok. The waiter was very nice and the food was tasty; but so under-sized and over-priced I cannot leave more than 2 stars. We will not be back.

I must admit utter excitement when walking through the door of the Shanty especially not knowing what to expect after the renovations from the original restaurant. I was extremely impressed with not just the décor but the service, food, and beverages! My friend and I walked in to immediately be greeted by the owner herself, Kara. She had a great disposition and asked if we would prefer a bar seat or table, which of course we chose the bar (you will see pictures posted of how gorgeous it is!). Upon sitting down, the bartender quickly came over and gave us all the menus for wine, beer, liquor drinks (the infuse their own liquors by the way), and for dinner. I chose the gringo which was a new twist on a delicious margarita with a bit of a kick while my friend opted for a draft beer which are mostly local. After sitting and enjoying for a moment, the bartender came back over to make sure the drinks were to our liking and then we ordered dinner. I had the clams appetizer which were the absolute perfect size. You could taste the freshness and a bit of spice with little pieces of Portuguese sausage sautéed in with the white wine, butter, and fresh herbs. My friend had the tuna tartar nachos and seemed very happy since the plate was wiped clean. I did get to try one of the chips before he devoured them and they were fantastic, I think made in house? For dinner I had the "TV dinner". I found the name hilarious but quickly learned the chefs do not joke with their food! It was almost like a gourmet KFC hen, fresh macaroni and cheese, a little dessert, and some type of sautéed greens - all did not last long. The other meal was the crab wedge, so yummy! I loved the dressing and it was a great size that I was actually able to try a bit of each ingredient before it was gone. The crab was the perfect amount of flavor and the lettuce super crispy. Now, I probably shouldn't of ordered dessert by this point but after seeing a "peanut butter and jelly" bread pudding I couldn't resist. It was the perfect warm temperature with the fluffernutter gelato just scooped on top. I let it sit for a minute so it could melt a little and then dove in. OH MY GOSH! It was so good I probably could have had two. Overall, I must say this meal was absolutely to die for. Kara the owner and all of her bartenders were so nice and helpful. I know I must of been a bit annoying because I asked a thousand questions from the beer to the Narragansett coasters but the smiles didn't falter and I had a great time. Just got home from lunch at The Shanty, and I absolutely loved it. The wait staff is laid back, but completely professional and prompt - you feel like you're talking to an old friend who has a passion for food. I had the special sandwich of the day, which was perfectly cooked shaved rib eye sandwich(I like medium/rare, and I'm a snoot when it comes to steak, because i love it so), along with the yam fries and the tuna tartar. I usually try to save at least half the sandwich so I can have something to eat later at home, but it was so good I just couldn't. And lets talk a moment about the cilantro aioli dip that comes with the yam fries. To die for. It took all my might to not lick the container it came in like an animal it was that good. They have to bottle that stuff, it's quality, and much lighter than many aioli's I've had from restaurants that tout their refined taste. The menu is digestible - small but with a very good range of food. I definitely want to bring my sister here, but she's a vegetarian, so I guess my ONLY qualm would be to add just a few more vegetarian dishes on the menu, and it would be just perfect. They also have a unique and well balanced drink menu. I live so close to this place it will be hard to not go back at least once a week. read more

Disappointed by the Shanty's Priorities The Shanty has a charming look from the outside, and we were hopeful walking in. Unfortunately, the experience quickly soured. We were greeted by a host with a casual "yo, follow me," which felt unprofessional and set the wrong tone. Once seated, we looked over the menu and were surprised to find no option to customize an omelette or even order scrambled eggs. The only choice was the "omelette of the day," which happened to be filled with ingredients I dislike. I politely asked if I could order a plain omelette instead, and the waitress simply said no. At that point, we decided to leave. As we walked out, the hostess didn't even offer a "have a nice day" or any acknowledgment. It felt cold and dismissive. It's baffling that a breakfast spot would put more emphasis on alcoholic drinks than on basic breakfast staples. What kind of breakfast place doesn't let you make your own eggs? read more

We went to The Shanty on Sunday, their first day open! We had the yam fries with this addicting sauce. Then moved on to the burgers our server informed us that the burger was inspired by the "In and Out Burger." I have never had a better burger. For day one I was overly impressed by the staff. If I hadn't known I would have thought they had been at it for years. I did notice other reviews about charging for popcorn, I thought the same but after trying the popcorn and the server explaining that they used organic popcorn, Maine sea salt and Rhode Island butter and tasting.....I would pay $4 again and again for it!! I really love the Shanty. I first went a few years ago on Halloween and had a delicious "TV dinner." We didn't return until a month later, and the bartender remembered both of our names. You can't beat the atmosphere, the friendly bartenders and servers, and the changing seasonal menu that is a step up - - more like five steps - - from traditional pub food. You have to go early though because there's always a wait after 6 PM on almost any night we've been. It's that good! read more

Tried The Shanty for the first time tonight. We had the best waitres....Isabel! Can't say enough about her bubbly personality, even after she had been up since 5 that morning w/her 2 year old. I can't believe this place used to be Wards! The renovations are amazing and the food is the best I've had out in a very long time. It wasn't quite my style, but it was still well made and delicious. For dinner, we both ordered the steak tips with steamed broccoli and mashed potatoes. The steak tips were cooked perfectly, the mashed potatoes were incredibly flavorful, and everything on the plate was delicious. It was one of those meals where you're tempted to lick the plate clean. Between the friendly service, gluten-free accommodations, and excellent food, this was an easy five-star experience. Self serve milk was at a station in the dining room area. Coffee was good, cold but I would have traded some coffee for a bit more ice to stay that way as I drank it slowly. Both of us were surprised when our meals were delivered: the plates were beaut! In particular his omelet was absolutely gorgeous! Now for the flavors: the omelet had a generous helping of perfect cooked eggs (not sitting in a pile of grease, as restaurant omelets frequently are). It was so fluffy that we both thought "that's way more than the advertised 3 eggs," and the lox was thickly layered whole slices nestled inside the fold. Most places chop the lox like vegetables, add it to the eggs, & make it like a veggie omelet - meh. This iteration was perfect; the lox tasted like smoked salty fish, losing none of that flavor to the omelet itself. The potatoes? Fabulous! Great spice mix, cooked until they were crispy. That was a tasty bit of marble rye toast too. My shakshuka was very good, but a bit less successful. The elements were all excellent; the avocado was actually guacamole since it was mashed & there were tomatoes and spices in the dish. The combination worked, except for the bread element. The dish as presented was really more of an avocado toast with shakshuka on top. It might have been more successful to add the avocado/guacamole as a unique base on the plate, with the tomato sauce and eggs on top with toast on the side (as is the way shakshuka is traditionally served) because halfway through the bread got really soggy & less appetizing.
