The Silos restaurant is one of the largest and most unique dining establishments in Oriental NC, especially based on the fact it was created from 2 silos. This place bares a strong resemblance to a hunting cabin, with a solid wood interior and wooden furniture throughout. You definitely can't help but feel that small town vibe, while watching the hustling and bustling staff bring you the wonderful service they provide so well. It's a clamorous environment. Unfortunately, not every entree leaves a very good first impression and the staff know which ones they are so be sure to ask. The ravioli may come with a homemade marinara sauce, which I am still on the fence about, but the ravioli itself is far from homemade. Lacking any character and cold in the center, this was not the entree for me. They did however have a good manicotti that I was able to sample, and that dish was not served cold. Cheers!

My parents have a beach house in Oriental. I've driven by Silos many times, but this was my first time giving it a go. First, I love its unique and true to name architectural design. I mean it is literally two silos with a little main entry building in-between. We called in our order and took it to go, but enjoyed looking at the interior while waiting to pay. It was simple and causal with records, guitars, and other musical memorabilia covering all the walls and some ceilings. Looked like a chill place to enjoy some pizza and beers, I will return to dine in on a future visit to Oriental. We ordered some of the bruschetta (French bread slices, Parmesan cheese, fresh tomato, basil, balsamic glaze) as a appetizer. The French bread was nice with mix of soft and crispy texture and I liked their balsamic glaze. We also shared a Caesar salad (Fresh Romaine, shredded Parmesan, croutons) it's as pretty basic, but filled the need for some roughage. For pizzas we got the Veggie Pizza (Onions, green peppers, mushrooms, olives, tomato, garlic) and the White Pizza (Parmesan sauce, garlic, basil, tomato, Mozzarella and Provolone cheese) both in Large pizza size. Each had 8 nice sized slices and felt the both pizzas were nicely prepared. The crust was bubbling and pillowy, which I was very happy with as I prefer a softer crust. But the pizza slices still had some structure when you pick them up to eat them. The veggie had lots of toppings and loved the Parmesan sauce on the white pizza. Both were good, but I'd give the slight edge to the White pizza. You can always tell which was the favorite of the group as it goes first when going for next day leftovers- it was the White pizza for sure. They were out of the dessert we wanted, but happily settled for the Cinnamon dough bites. Wasn't a huge order, but enough for us each to have a couple bite sized sweets after all the savory goodness. The dough was warm and soft and had a nice balance of cinnamon and glaze. Stills. Bit sweet for me overall for me, but I'll always pick another slice of pizza over a dessert generally. Others in my party liked them. I tend to cook or go for fresh fish when in the area, but always good to know there is a solid pizza option near by. I will be back at Silos for sure

My wife and I stopped in here for the first time. We had heard some good things about this place so we wanted to give it a go. We started off with the side salads, creamy Italian for her and blue cheese for me. The dressings were very good and some are made in house. As for the main courses, the bride chose the shrimp with lobster sauce over linguine while my pick was the shrimp Diablo. The portions were huge and served very hot as well. We also were given homemade breadsticks, which were fantastic! We ended up taking some food home with us as it was too much to eat all at once. We also got a pepperoni pizza to take home with us so we could give that a try. The reviews for the pizza have been great! We definitely will be back!

We lucked out and stumbled upon this place as we drive into town. We didn't have to wait, to our surprise, but I think that was more lunch than anything else. We both ordered the steaks, a different one each. Came with a salad which was really the only disappointment. Limp lettuce and other veggies that had sat on the plate for a little too long. My "worlds greatest" steak was perfectly cooked. The sauce, shrimp and Cajun sliced potatoes all come together for a stellar meal for around $25. Nice ambiance and good service. Hannah was great. I feel for the wait staff, the kitchen is downstairs and the dining room is up. They hustled all evening. If the owner is reading, I met your friend Charles today with the MG and I think you passed us with your MGB.

Chelsea greeted us and welcomed us in. Full disclosure. I had a cold, and was not feeling my best. Somehow, Chelsea made me feel like she would make sure I got what I needed. From bringing extra wasabi, to creating an appetizer that wasn't on the menu, she and the kitchen staff made us feel special. Hubby had the steak, 10/10. Same with the fried oysters. I had the tuna tataki, and with the extra wasabi I could finally breathe lol. My daughter had the chowder and a crab cake. She wasn't feeling well either but the chowder was so good she took it to go. Highly recommend if you're near Oriental NC.

I ordered a clam chowder and a burger w/ sweet potato fries. As someone who lives in New England I am happy to say this is a delicious chowder. To my liking; a thick broth and the right amount of fixings of clams, potatoes, and other ingredients. I would recommend not using the saltine crackers, not needed. Ordered my burger rare and it came out as I ordered it. Sweet potato fries were good too. We ordered a key lime pie for the table and was very good! For one of two restaurants in town I would recommend making reservations to be on the safe side.

The seating and lighting were great. Our server, Kayla was very professional and efficient. As one might imagine, a seating of 14 can be difficult. She handled us with aplomb! Many different items were ordered. I started with the wedge salad where the iceberg lettuce, blue cheese crumbles and bacon were the stars of the show. I ordered the duck breast for my entree. The fat was perfectly rendered and the puréed carrots pair extremely well with the richness of the deck. A must have with the duck is their in-house made pear martini which blended perfectly with the fig sauce served over the duck. My husband ordered the Shrimp Cocktail as my appetizer. The shrimp were plump and perfectly steamed! The cocktail sauce was fresh made and delicious! His entree was Pistachio Butter Scallops. They were served on a bed of polenta with a side of haricot verts! The scallops were sautéed to a point where the edges were just ever so crispy while the interior of the scallop was tender and sweet! He said this was one of the best meals he'd have ever had and we've dined at many 4 & 5 star restaurants! I almost forgot to mention the bread service! We were offered either a Baguette or Focaccia bread. The focaccia was so outstanding, we bought an extra half loaf to bring home!!! Even though we were both happily satiated, we shared their pan fried pound cake with salted caramel gelato and chantilly cream for dessert! It was simply amazing! The management staff and chef came to our table to check on our service and meals. They were very appreciative of our glowing feedback! We'll definitely be coming back! I highly recommend going to Gretchen's Bistro in Oriental! You won't be disappointed! Sorry...only the one pic, because we were a large group enjoying a multitude of conversations.

Stopped in at the right time as shortly after multiple families came in. Definitely can see this being a busy spot pre/post church. Was a little surprised about the lemon juice packets for my water, first I have seen that. I enjoyed my meal. Everything hit the spot with my order. My grandfather's poached eggs were overcooked but he enjoyed it all. Other things that stuck out was they had no OJ, overheard the waitress tell a young boy they were out of apple juice, and they were not serving french toast. Maybe staffing issues with it being Labor Day weekend but I would have thought having a fully stocked kitchen would be important. If traveling through I would pop in for some grub, it is better than the Mc. Donalds up the road.

One half feels historic and the other half feels modern with the artwork, mirrors, and finishes. The lighting is dim but you can still read the menu. It wasn't busy while I was there but quiet enough I couldn't hear other conversations. Initially the host wanted to seat me at the bar but when I declined, gave me a seat near the open kitchen. My waitress was friendly and helped me select the strawberry blonde to go with the strawberry salad. This was smaller than expected and just one or two strawberries. There was a little too much dressing for my taste as I forgot to order it on the side. I did like how the flavors came together. I also had the chocolate torte which was rich and decadent. I left here a little squeamish from what I witnessed. After all, I was seated at a booth table with a full view of the open kitchen. I noticed the food runner repeatedly touching his nose then the plates of food. I watched him reset a table and was touching the silverware by the tines, the part that goes in your mouth, rather than the handles. I'm not sure if the hands had been washed when he added by hand garnish to my dessert. I immediately removed the garnish but should have returned the dish to get it remade. Also, a table of six was seated then left a few minutes later and the glasses and silverware were not replaced while I was there, leaving me to assume they were not replaced for the next guests. I also noticed the restaurant had many cameras, so these hygiene lapses were likely recorded. For an upscale spot, these hygiene issues were disappointing. I truly enjoyed the flavors and the atmosphere, and I would be happy to return in the future if I could be confident that basic hygiene and service protocols were being strictly followed. Relatively dark and fancy inside, but more than light enough to read menus and have good convo. For one of the most highly talked about restaurants in New Bern, I was hoping for more impressive taste though. My partner and I got the half dozen oyster special, pamlico curry, and the duck pastrami pizza. It came out pretty quick and looked great (they even split our meal without us specifying and without up charge when they confirmed we were sharing), but just tasted decent. For the oysters, I would've preferred their vinaigrette on the side. Also think a classic mignonette is a bit better. The curry takes a creative but underwhelming spin on shrimp and grits. Lastly, the pizza was pretty good but could've used some more duck. To be fair, we may have just not ordered the right foods, but we weren't very impressed by the drinks either. However, based on the service and other great reviews, we will be back to try their other stuff!
