They have some of the best bartenders in PB that has established themselves for years. Not a lot on tap, but they have great beer specials and some great bloody mary's. The best times to go are in the day or early afternoon. It's not too busy and you can play free pool! Every Sunday you can get a (rolling) rock and a shot for $5! Nice chill bar, cool deals, and drunk old dudes.... Wow...happy hour at 6am, thats hardcore, from 6-10am, and 4-7pm Monday through Friday, they offer $3 well drinks, $2.50 domestic bottles, and $2 beer of the month, and Thursday's are $2 you call its. This month's beer of the month is Pintail Pale Ale from Karl Strauss. Cool stuff. She also made a pretty decent vodka grapefruit juice as well. They have a bunch of sports channels, and the horse racing channel too. They have 4-5 video games, couple of pool tables, an ATM and a dartboard. The armrest on the bar needs a little fixin, but the rest of the decor seemed just a typical sports/dive bar. They have free WiFi. Restroom is typical as well, semi-dirty, communal urinal. Just wash your hands thoroughly on your way out. Drunk old dudes, but relatively quiet and a variety of people. The bar lady was nice and gave good service. Come back for the happy hour deal, and plenty of parking across the street at the grocery complex. read more

Garnet Avenue's Silver Fox is better known for it's eclectic clientèle and bar games than other venues in Pacific Beach. Patrons of this bar tend to be very diverse in age and style and also trend to visit often, giving "the Fox" a vibe that you've stumbled into a neighborhood bar full of regulars. And, generally, "stumbled" is the operative word. While further down PB's main bar strip, the Fox has the reputation of being a "last call stop". If you're still able to drive by the time you visit, a large parking lot across the street offers more than ample parking and is safe enough to leave your car overnight should you have one too many. Be warned though, that this venue is a few blocks from any other similar bars, and tricky to incorporate into the ubiquitous "PB bar crawls". Patrons enter the venue and immediately descent a flight of stairs and it feels like you're entering a dark basement. A large bar extends nearly the length of the "shotgun" layout. There is no dance floor, so three pool tables, darts and a juke box and people watching serve as entertainment. Drinks are cheap and stiff, but don't expect to drink anything other than common bottled beer and simple mixed cocktails. A $2.50 "beer of the month" rotates every few weeks and $2 "you-call-it" Thursdays round out the bar's best specials. The only food you'll find are bags of potato chips and a hot dog vendor outside on occasion (more on that below). Before you pick up a cue stick, learn the local protocol! Most of the players who come here are not your casual buzzed players; so write your name on the appropriate chalk board, stand by and have your quarters ready or be prepared to make some enemies. The hot dog cart positioned in the atrium on the weekends offers tipsy guests an opportunity for one-last midnight snack before the trek home and is actually so good it does in fact raise the experience of the bar. In my personal opinion, you simply will not find a better dog in San Diego. While manned by only person, various topping are available such as chili and cream cheese and served up piping hot and fast on a thin paper plate. Dogs run about $5 and if you find yourself even near the Fox, it's worth stopping by just for the snack. I have found my favorite local watering hole thanks to my future baby daddy enlightening me. I would give it 5 stars, but we went there on a weekend night and it was packed. I like my dive bars half full with crazy characters wandering in and out. I have seen this place from the outside several times and it is exactly what I expected. Luckily they have a convenient happy hour at 6am in the morning when the soccer game that I want to see airs. Due to time difference I have to get up early to see games like this and I can rely on a this bar being open due to high demands from locals who start their Sunday with half off drinks at 6am!!!!! Fun to see this crowd that goes from young to old. Despite of what you may expect from the appearance the service is very friendly and quick. Ok so me and my boyfriend went there to get a drink on a Saturday afternoon and this spot was not crowded or anything.Yet this bartender proceeded to act so unfriendly and told my boyfriend before taking our orders that she didnt accept credit cards,he had just taken it out of his purse ,just the first thing she said.He proceeded to withdraw money when she told me that she cant accept my ID because it has a hole in it.My SC state license has a hole punched in it till the time I get my California license.I showed her my EAD employment authorization card and she said that wasnt a giverment issued ID.I travelled through airports using this ID and it is issued by the federal government and the fact that both IDs had my picture and date of birth should have been enough to prove Im a 33 year old women and not underaged.....What was she thinking..? read more

Oh dear god, there were so many nights that turned into riding my bike with a pack of drunken friends to this bar at 5:55 am to arrive to Casey pouring drinks at 6:01 am. Yes, it's dark inside the bar and yes, we're wearing sunglasses. Whats wrong with that? I love the Foxy and always will for those long Saturday nights and Casey! Part 2..... I went here for my 'belated 21st" birthday and had an awesome time. It was Thursday so they had 2 dollar you call it's! AWESOME. The bar itself is a lot larger than it looks from the outside, they have two pool tables and a dartboard, and a jukebox. This is more of a bar that regulars go to I'd say the average age group ranges from late 30's and older. Not your typical P.B bar like Typhoon or Plum crazy, no dance floor here. There was puke all over the men's stall so my wife offered to guard the women's restroom door while I used the restroom.We explained this to the bouncer, but, for this, we were kicked out and forced to leave our group. We're an older couple there with a business group. It was a slow night, maybe 4 other people there besides our group of 12. This bar is awesome and the bartender Caitlin was amazing. I came here on Sunday to finish out the weekend at this local dive. Caitlin was busy but gave everyone of her customers including our group excellent service. This is a very nice place despite the unprofessional, obnoxious bartender Kaitlin. While talking with my friend over one beer we were rudely interrupted and literally scolded for touching the pile of coaster in front of us. We though she was just kidding but she just went on and on.... leaving such a bad feeling like a dark cloud. Kaitlin needs to be supervised and has no business working alone as she creates a liability for this bar that may some day cost the establishment money for her character assassination in front of other guest. She didn't know how close she came from having a drink in her face after going on and on and on...... We just soaked it up , laughed at her and left. despite she only works one day week we will return. This bar is classy and has a nice atmosphere if the right bartender is at hand!! read more

I'm a huge fan of dive bars, so the Silver Fox wins points for its low-key, casual environment, pool tables, and cheap drinks. (When a round for five including four mixed drinks and a domestic beer come in at $20 including a generous tip...well, who can hate on that?) As someone who doesn't really dig the hassle of getting into and out of PB, I also appreciate that the Silver Fox is enough on the edge to allow for a quick entry and get away. What makes it a three star instead of four star then? I'm glad you asked. ;) The Silver Fox may be a dive bar, but that doesn't mean it has to *smell* like a dive bar. Walking in and down the stairs, you can't help but be smacked in the face with a smells of urine and cigarette smoke. Luckily, by the time you're seated with your drink the odor has faded, but still. This place is the definition of a Dive Bar. From it's leopard carpet to the dark small bar. I live within walking distance so I've been plenty of times and seen it in all it's glory. Depending on what day of the week you go & what time, it'll either be packed or barely occupied. Thursday nights are the busiest for $2 U-Call its. They do have darts, pool, arcade games, a jukebox & a small tv or two. There is NO food though, so eat before or after. Great place to end your night of drinking in PB. This is a dive bar, so expect nothing glamorous, but compared to other dive bars I've been to, I like it. When you enter the bar, you actually go downstairs, and you feel like you should've walked through a door and given a password, like the old speakeasy days. There's a couple of pool tables, a juke box, and a long bar. I think what makes this place homey are the staff, local regulars, and the fact you feel like you're in a shelter. Since there are no windows, it's VERY easy to spend endless hours here drinking. It's almost like time stands still. Apparently this bar opens at 6AM daily, one of the few in the San Diego with the ability to do so. The local regulars tell me on weekends it can actually get packed at 6AM from people who are still looking to party when all of the other bars have closed. They also said New Year's Day is one of the busiest days, almost to the point when a line forms outside the door...at 6AM! I went on a Thursday night, which is $3 You-Call-It night. The regular I was with ordered B-52s, and they were $3. That's not a bad price at all! I would recommend coming here on a Thursday night, and even though the place is small, it's not crowded at all. I would've given this place three stars (A-OK) but $3 You-Call-Its deserve an extra star. You can't beat that! read more

This is a true dive, and man did I have fun. The bartender-slash-bouncer is the funniest guy, and he's really sweet. The guys playing pool said "excuse me" when they needed to get a shot in that would have hit us in the booty on the wind up. It was dead when we went, but it's all about who you're with. This review is late. About 10 years late but fortunately enough I remember it...LOL So an old buddy that was living is PB at the time invites me and another buddy from OC to make the trek to PB. I have to say I was new to the 'PB Scene" and didn't know what I was in for. We started off the night going from house to house in PB drinking our asses off and partaking in other things. It was nearing 6am and someone from the group we were hanging with yelled out..."Lets Go to the Silver Fox". In my mind...(as cloudy as it was)...I thought..."What a club/Bar open at this time of day. Impossible!! Oh yes it was possible.....Off we went to continue this party we started early yesterday evening.....WOOHOO!! All I remember is .... Fuck?! Stairs?!...where the hell we going. And where the hell am I...LOL We got in and the music was banging but I was too wasted to do anything. I looked around and said ...WTF....these are the same people at the house parties I was at...what the hell?!.... Was I transported to some inter-dimensional party zone that everyone knew about except for me? Or was a party happening in my head but I was actually passed out in a pool of my own vomit? Nope...Someone remind me again I was at the Silver Fox and they open at 6am and that where most of PB goes on Sat Mornings. Whoa! There were alot of people there ....regulars, party girls, PB folks, visitors to this area like me and just a bunch of people that just wanted to get their drink on. For what I remembered...its was a good time. Stopped by this "dive" bar before brunch on Saturday and was pleasantly surprised by the friendly, funny (and cute!) bartender Chris. The drinks were cheap and the jukebox had great music.
