I have avoided this place since it opened because when I looked at the menu, I got sticker shock! The prices are so high! Finally broke down and decided to give it a shot and boy was I surprised! Yeah, it was about 60 bucks for the two meals that we ordered. But it easily fed all four people in my house. My meal came with a half rack of ribs. Six bones and sides and hush puppies! The ribs are outstanding as is the brisket! The sausage was pretty mid. Kind of Bland. I'm used to getting something like a jalapeño cheddar sausage. This was just not my jam. The sides were all amazing. Hush puppies and fried okra were perfect and the jalapeño cream corn may be one of my new favorite dishes. bBaked beans were alright. I do wish they had a sweet and sticky barbecue sauce, though. The Smoke Pit sauces are vinegar and mustard based. Fortunately, I've got a bottle of Sweet Baby Rays in the fridge. TLDR: This is the best BBQ I have had since leaving my home state of Mississippi 6 years ago. And don't let the prices fool you; you get a lot of bang for your buck! read more

We decided to try The Smoke Pit for dinner. We were not disappointed! Our server, Morgan was excellent. She waited on us promptly. She checked on us at least five times. We ordered Tres Amigo and a Brisket Platter. They were huge portions. The sides included string beans, sweet potato casserole and fried okra. We also had hush puppies and corn bread. Everything was fantastic and delicious. We are so happy to have found a good barbecue place. We will definitely return. read more

blah blah blah everyone loves The Smoke Pit? I came in mid-deluge at the end of the driest May ever this year fully expecting to be underwhelmed by the entire experience... but at least I'd be close to the house. for starters getting parked is the typical northern carolinear farce because: cars vs geography vs cars IYKYK the bar wasn't such a bad thing: 17 or so seats with half as many hi-tops agin the wall of glass separating the clients from the world inside. expect the usual mess on tap plus no draft cider and plenty of liquor besides. barkeep seem up to the task though, so yea! 3 Amigos was at least one too many for one diner: brisket, pulled pork, ribs, two sides, choice of carb, plus pickles and onions. jap corn is legit, pit beans are typical as are the hush puppies... and then there's the meat: no sauce today, just proteins, fat, and smoke. brisket is either lean or not, moist either way with a band of pink between the char and the done. porks tastes artfully pulled - no hint of shredded anger here - moist and warm and fine au natural again but a splash of your flavorite flavor won't insult it either. I could complain about the ribs but it's more a matter of style than substance and the bias slice instead of pig-sickles actually works well so there's that. it all comes out fast too; apparently the only thing slow here is the cooking part. a little spendy for one but could just as well have been dinner for two under $50. I'll probably be here again; not because it's the most extra-best slow cookery ever but it really is really good and it's also really close. in closing: the absence of teeth picks is more an reflection of the place and times in which we live than an oversight by management. read more

Extremely disappointed with the service at this location. We came in on a Saturday evening during bad weather with our family of five, including a baby. I gave our information to the manager, Kenny, at the hostess stand and asked about the wait time he told me 10-15 minutes. Since it was raining, I stepped out for a few minutes to get my husband and kids out of the car. When I came back inside just 7 minutes later, the hostess said they'd called our name while I was gone which doesn't add up, since I'd only just stepped out to get my family. She assured me we'd be next. Instead, Kenny sat three other families ahead of us, despite the hostess having explained the situation to him. When I asked about it, Kenny was smug, argumentative, and dismissive, insisting I'd "missed" our table. My husband stepped in because he didn't appreciate the tone Kenny was taking with me, and the whole interaction just got worse from there. This was especially disappointing because my husband regularly brings coworkers here for business lunches and has always raved about this location. We're also regulars at the Providence location and love it. Unfortunately, this was my first time at this one, and the way Kenny handled the situation left a genuinely bad taste. Great food doesn't make up for feeling disrespected and unwelcome by management. We won't be returning to this location. read more

I'm in town for the Kart Races and happened by this spot and decided to pull in an try it. So glad I did as it is REALLY GOOD! My server Matt was great and was spot on with his recommendations! In fact the entire staff was on point. My meal was simply fantastic. I got the two meat combo with the ribs and the moist brisket. Both were so good! On Wednesdays apparently they have a complimentary third side so I had the Mac and Cheese, Pit Baked Beans, and the Jalapeno Creamed Corn. All of which were delicious. They are definitely doing the work here and not "mailing it in" as so many NC BBQ spots do. (Sorry, not sorry!) And for the size of the portions it was a bargain! I'm not a guy who normally needs a box for leftovers but here I did! Do yourself a favor and try this spot out of you haven't already. 100% approved by this guy! read more

Holy smokes!!! The Smoke Pit Mooresville blew me away today... First off, the portion sizes were gnarly. I mean, it would be impossible to leave here hungry. The food itself was killer! The chicken was extremely juicy and that Alabama white sauce brought the whole plate together. Every single side was delicious but that hashbrown casserole was NEXT LEVEL!! Very creamy. Food came out so fast even with it being a packed house. Parking was tricky. Pricey but with the amount of food you get, you get your moneys worth. Our servers, Brian and Liz were awesome!! After visiting the Voncord location, we were excited to see them open a location in our hometown. We tried a few days after it opened and the line was out the door with every parking spot full. We tried going for an early dinner today - still crowded but we were able to get a table and I'm glad we did. Service was great. The food was DELICIOUS. The ribs were huge, juicy and tender with a nice bark. A half rack of ribs is huge - much larger than I've had in other restaurants . I also had French fries and white slaw with cornbread - all outstanding. These are by far the best ribs I've had in Mooresville. I will be back. read more

We normally visit the Concord location but now this location is closer to us. The quality of the food is definitely not as good as at the Concord location. We have never had an issue with the meat quality of the pulled pork at Concord but the Mooresville location was full of burnt fat and skin that did not have any meat on it. We asked our waitress if this was normal for this location and she very sarcastically said "yes, that's the bark of the pork and it's supposed to be there." I showed her there was no meat on it and she quickly, cut me off and asked if there was something else I needed. The waitress was not very pleasant from the time she took our order. She forgot what drink I ordered and also forgot to bring anything else we asked for during our meal. We asked for drinks to go and it seemed to upset her. The Concord location gives much better service and they don't even have waitresses or waiters. read more

Four of us are here last night. We have our fair share of award winning barbecue joints and barbecue restaurants here in the Mooresville area,. . I love good "Q" and I have my favorites here in town. I was very skeptical, but I got pushed into going with some friends. We waited 30 minutes for a table. It was worth the wait. As plates strolled by us loaded down with delicious barbecue meats and sides our mouth's watered. We had a couple drinks while we waited for about 30 mins. Our table was in the bar area so we sat down and ordered. Our server Tabitha , was training another server Virginia at the time and Tabitha was an absolute rockstar. She knew the menu, made recommendations and had a genuine fun personality and a great smile. The portions are huge. I split a sampler plate with my wife and had left overs to take home. Quite possibly the best beef brisket in Mooresville. They ask if you want it severed lean or with fat. My Wife went with lean brisket and I went with fat. It was spot on. While the meats (brisket, pulled pork and ribs) exceeded expectations, their greens stole the show!!!! The cornbread was some of the best I have ever had. This place checks all the boxes. It is a newer building so it is very clean and has a cool bar area... Maybe a little noisy for some people but it was fine for us. Can't wait to go back. read more

Despite calling ahead and asking whether or not they could handle having a large group at lunch, to which we received a yes, they added a "large group" tax to the table which is not printed anywhere but in incredibly small writing at the bottom of the menu. When questioned about this charge, one of the managers, Kenny, proceeded to raise his voice at the 93 year old woman asking him about it rather than keeping his attitude within professional bounds. The food is very middle of the road and there are better places for barbecue in Mooresville alone where the service is less hostile. Very disappointing as this was our first time. read more

The Smoke Pit is the king of BBQ around this area. I've never had a bad meal from this place and the service at the new location has been extremely well. The fact that people can get in and out of there during lunch rush within 45 minutes is impressive. I've eaten BBQ for over 30 years at many locations including backyard events and Smoke Pit is on their game. I see people complaining about how long it took to open but they did a full remodel, additions, and all while road construction was present and still present. My only complaint is that I wish chicken quarters were still an option. Other than that, 5 stars all day. read more

Overall a very positive experience. Parking lot was jammed - not a single space available but we managed to park on the street. Thinking we were in for an hour+ wait for a table we were told 20 minute wait and seated within 10 minutes. Had a drink at the well-stocked bar and headed to to our table. Servers promptly greeted us and took orders. I had burnt ends sandwich with fries and collards - which was served within 5 minutes of ordering! Burnt ends were tender and accessorized by stable of different BBQ sauces offered on the table. Had a sweet/spicy BBQ sauce which accentuated the meat and crunchy bun. Fries were a bit soggy as I believe were hand cut (which is super difficult to do at scale!) but were well-seasoned and tasted good - just not as crispy as I would like. Collards rocked my world as they were super-creamy/tender and tasted like they were cooked for hours. Table shared basket of hush puppies which were not super-crisp but tasty - served with a honey butter dipping cup. Service was good as we were frequently checked in on during our meal. Only quibbles were fried items not as crispy as I would have liked. Understand SP has only been open a couple weeks and have some wrinkles to iron out but a very respectable BBQ joint - glad they opened a Mooresville location. We will be back! read more
