It was a perfect day to sit outside at The Snapper Inn. Clear skies, slight breeze, and in the low 80's. The Special Lunch Menu was good. Martinis were made right, Margaritas tasty, and a nice Pinot Grigio on ice. On the negative side...the square, metal tables were too small for a party of four, and wobbled. Inside tables are better, but the day was too perfect to stay inside. There are Adirondack chairs on the pier to enjoy the water view. Call ahead and ask if the deck is available. Make sure that there are no private parties, or the above can't happen. The private party has first dibs, and you won't be able to sit outside. We went for a early dinner recently, and the inn had a afternoon and evening wedding celebration that day. Was not able to enjoy the venue like today. I have been here multiple times before and I've always enjoyed my meal. We went last night and I was so disappointed with my meal. My food came very cold. The marinated skirt steak was very chewy and didn't have much flavor. The creamed spinach lacked salt and my mashed potatoes had a very weird after taste. Yesterday we had come here for my brothers birthday dinner. It's a little expensive but all of the food was very good. We had ordered the steamers, calamari and the majority of us had the lobster, which was way more than enough food. I think that's the first time I was unable to finish an entire lobster. The other thing that I really liked was sitting outdoors. It was an amazing view and its overall beautiful just sitting outside watching the boats and listening to the outdoor music, which wasn't too loud so you're still able to have a conversation. Went here for New Year's Eve. They had a prix fixe meal. Everything was delicious. The place was beautifully decorated for the holidays. Didn't give it 5 stars because our waitress was overly interested in turning over the table. She took our dessert order while we ordered the rest of our meal. Restaurant week is upon us! Husband was in the mood for seafood, he checked the list of restaurants participating + found this place. We come in with no reservation and we're told it's about a half hour to 45 min wait, fine. No problem. We wait at the bar and ordered our drinks. He had a beer, I had a sangria. So far so good. We're seated for dinner and ordered the restaurant week special. Three course meal. Waited 45-50 minutes for our appetizer. Calamari and oysters. We watched the table behind us get their appetizers and their main course before us, and they were seated AFTER us. Meanwhile, no appetizer in sight. Finally asked the waitress what's going on. Her response "idk what's taking so long, they have another big table and yours should be out soon" Finally, an hour later. We get our appetizer. The waitress was nice and told us the next round of drinks is on the House. Calamari was good, main course was okay. The dessert was okay. I understand, restaurant week, it's busy. However. We saw a lot of empty tables. The food was okay, nothing spectacular. The risotto wasn't great, it was mediocre. I gave it two stars because our waitress was nice. Not sure if I'd come back. On a quest for good steamers on a Saturday night, my husband and i thought we couldn't go wrong with the Snapper Inn with a great menu and a long standing reputation. It began as a fish stand in 1929, how could we go wrong? We were asked to wait about 20 minutes to be seated. No problem; we'd wait at the bar for our table for two. The service was pleasant but the bartenders didn't connect with each other, not aware that the other had already taken our drink order, app order, and oddly, not on top when our glasses went empty. The steamers we were looking forward to were a sandy disappointment. The fried calamari was tough, chewy and flavorless. We thought if anyone knew the process of removing the sand from the clams, the chef at the Snapper Inn would. If anyone knew how to sweeten and tenderize calamari by soaking it in milk, these guys would. To close my review, we were not offered that table once one became available.. no love lost here, we finished our apps and beer and moved on. Went for Mother's day, menu was a 4 course meal $64 per person. App, salad, entree, and dessert. Food is good but not for the prices. Nice view on the water, overall classy and clean. Fried calamari was cooked well. The salad was mediocre and had canned roasted red peppers but the peppercorn dressing was good. Flounder with crabmeat stuffing was tasty but had more filling than crab. I would go back for drinks outside and maybe appetizers but otherwise not paying for a whole dinner. read more

Went here during the week with the lady because she had a free dinner for 2 certificate she won. I started off with calamari as an app and it was breaded perfectly and the sauces were really good. I had the filet mignon as my main dish and it was cooked the way I wanted it. I would go far as to say one of the best steaks I had. I also tried the lobster tail my girl had and it was good also. She had no complaints about her dishes at all. For dessert we had the flourless chocolate cake and the Reese's chocolate peanut butter pie. Both of them were good. The only problem was it took a pretty long time for the dessert to come out. It got to the point that the server apologized and went in to get the dessert herself. She brought it right out and apologized again which we didn't mind because we were seated outside and was enjoying the time together. Not going to take a star off for a miscommunication. Went here for restaurant week, two stars is generous. The place obviously has been around for a very long time and you can tell because it smells like an old antique shop. The service was terrible, our waitress took almost 20 minutes to come to our table and she said she didn't realize we were there, then other waiters came up to us with other tables food. It's very obvious they aren't well trained and look very young and confused. The food portions were very tiny (obviously they do a dead for restaurant week but shrink the portions to a laughable size) and the quality is terrible, it's like one step below old diner food. I got the snapper salad as my first course and it was literally maybe 6 leaves of lettuce and two or three of the smallest tomato's you've ever seen. Everything else was awful, not one person was happy with their meal. I think this place survives on its senior citizen clientele that's been going here for decades. The restaurant was beautiful, the food was great, and the staff was superb. The Catering Managers, Josh, Kerry and Patty, were so professional and very easy to work with from booking, to planning and executing my daughter's bridal shower there on Sunday. They were so accommodating and helpful by letting us drop off all of the decorations the day before and setting most of it up for us. The serving staff was very attentive to whatever we needed. A little out of the way, but it's a nice spot right on the south shore. We had a family gathering of about 14 people, and had a good-sized room all to ourselves. The menu was great, with not too many items to overwhelm but everything that came out looked really good. I had the Seafood Fra Diavlo (ate it all), I tried someone's lentil soup which I also finished, and the Reese's chocolate peanut butter cake was the perfect ending. The food was not the quality I expected for the price payed. I ordered the chicken milanes. The chicken came out good but the potatoes had a strong rosemary after taste. On top we also ordered the steak which came out cold and was chewy and once again the potatoes had a strong rosemary after taste. This was such a fun event!! It was at the Snapper Inn - a nice restaurant that's right on the water. There were so many different chowders to try I was in heaven! I'm so glad I wasn't a judge because all of them were so good it was hard to pick my favorite The room was a little small for the amount of people there it was kinda cramped. But you could go outside if you were feeling claustrophobic and watch the sailboats out on the water under a warm heat lamp. If you go next year (which I plan on doing) make sure you make a donation to the Great South Bay conservatory! I would definitely come back for a nice brunch even though it seems a little pricey. read more

Came here for A Surprise Nerdy 30 birthday party and it was awesome ! The set up was outside under a tent and the gazebo bar was perfect... It was literally right next to where we were all sitting.. The place seems a little old looking (weathered a bit much like all water dining restaurants) on the inside but the food is good and it's very clean..I've eaten here before with my parents prior to coming for this party and their lobster mac and cheese is the bomb.com For the party, we had caprese salad, penne ala vodka, baked clams, chicken parm and some beef in sauce.. Seemed to be good as everyone went up for seconds and even thirds.. They were also good and on top of replenishing the trays as they dwindled down from the beast attacks.. Bc obv what happens when you're drinking ... YOU WANNA EAT EVERYTHING... Needless to say it was a good day.. Perfect for being on the water to overlook all the boats ... We were so glad we found this event on Yelp because it was way bigger than we imagined. This was the 17th annual Long Island Chowder Contest but only our first. The Snapper Inn itself is off the beaten path and right on the water so the location couldn't have been better. People and restaurants from across the island came to participate in this chowder palooza. The even ran for two hours of unlimited samples of different chowders and soups from about 8-10 different restaurants were available to taste until they ran out. Most samples only brought one tray and that was a big mistake. By 1 o'clock almost all but two restaurants ran out of their respected soups. My favorite was probaly was actually the Snapper Inn's seafood bisque. It wasn't overly salty and had tons of shellfish. The Snapper Inn has a nice bar and more than half the restaurant was dedicated to the event and they needed every inch of it. It was a little hard to move around, maybe they should use the entire Snapper Inn and charge people a $10 donation to the charity instead of the "suggested" donation. The outside had a fire pit going and a couple heat lamps and even a few sailboats going in the middle of winter which was an awesome surprise. I would come back to the Inn for a special brunch for an occasion because of the ambienance, the staff and the soup. read more

A group of us went to the Snapper Inn for dinner last week. This is a very nice restaurant, on the formal dining side of the spectrum. We had been there a while ago but I did not really remember the details when we went in. The room is very nicely decorated. The food was very good. All of the entrees were properly cooked and well presented. The service was also excellent. Also, I must point out that we were there to celebrate my son's graduation from Marine Corp boot camp. The manager and waiter come over and comped his entree. This was very much appreciated. The 1/2 lb crab leg entree was excellent and a great value. So... If you are looking for a formal dining experience on the water (there is a dock outside for a stroll after eating), the Snapper Inn is a good call. read more

Use to frequent this place every year on the boat and loved docking up. I called and found out they were open so I was all excited to dine there this season. I Pulled up yesterday and they told me there is now a $75 docking fee to sit and eat. I couldn't believe it, I then explained we were there for only a quick drink and they still said we would have to pay $75. Their explanation was they were charging $75 during COVID. If anything they should be more welcoming and not take advantage of a national pandemic. We left and went to the View and the experience was the complete opposite overwhelmingly positive. Went for dinner last week with my husband.The disappointment was that we could not sit outside because there was a wedding.Wish we were told that when we made the reservation.However, we did have a nice table with great water view and it was fun seeing the wedding party and the bride. Our meal was very good. My husband raved about the red snapper he chose and I enjoyed my chicken milanese. The dulce de leche cheesecake was creamy, rich and wonderful. Compliments to the chef. The waitress was wonderful and the manager apologized for the commotion around us, he had to rearrange some tables.Because of all the noise and movement he offered us the dessert, which was terrific.We will return because it is one of our favorite restaurants.The only thing that would have made the experience better was to dine outside.We had a good time anyway. read more

Place is Two thumbs up. Food was excellent, service was impeccable and atmosphere was something out of a poem. In all my years of eating out, i've never had Calamari with cherry peppers...and WOW what a treat! We also had mussels, and a crab/lobster cake which was to die for. My only critique was the Yellowfin Tuna I had as my entree, which was just not a good cut of tuna. Too much cartilidge (however you spell it I don't know and am not taking the time to find out)! Attended New years Day brunch with my family of 11 at the time. The group of us can eat, and together, tried every single item available for brunch. Now while I do not want to get into every single specific item, as there is a huge array of available eats for brunch from paella to lobster ravioli, to prime rib, omelette and sausage, very few items came up dissapointing. What I want to put out there more than anything is the service here is immaculate, polished, very courteous staff constantly looking to assist you and everyone at your table while making conversation, jokes, and tending to even specific needs. The experience here is as any brunch, all you can eat anything should be, relaxing and sipping mimosas while you down plates and plates of food. Came here on a Thursday evening to celebrate my mother's birthday. Firstly, the location is so breath taking! It's right by the water and its a nice area to just take a stroll on the boardwalk and relax while you're waiting for a table...so peaceful and serene! The restaurant itself is very "clean looking" and spacious. Somewhat fancy yet casual at the same time. The staff were very warm and friendly the moment we walked through the doors m, which I appreciated very much. For the meal, we had ordered the seafood platter (which you can get fried or broiled...obviously fried is the way to go!), Mediterranean seafood salad, a salmon dish with couscous which I don't quite remember what it's called, and a seafood pasta with red tomato sauce.
