I met my two girlfriends here for a Sunday brunch. I had been here before and always had a good experience. This was their first time here. The place was packed when we arrived, so I was glad we had reservations. They like to wait for your entire party to be there before they seat you. Our waiter was Ethan and he was the absolute best. He was funny, attentive and very helpful with our many questions. I had the Bloody Mary to start and it was perfectly spiced. I had the Ted Lasso omelette, it had ham, cheddar cheese, poblano peppers and red onion. It had a good kick with the peppers and the ham was thick cut. My one friend had the egg sandwich and subbed out the onion poppyseed bun for sourdough. My other friend had the hens hash. We all really enjoyed our meals. The only thing I wish was different was our table placement. They have tables inside the restaurant and outside in the main area of the building. Overly priced for average! All I got was an iced Carmel latte and a normal Egg/cheese/sausage sandwich with egg whites.... I was charged almost $25! That's actually insane! It's located in the lobby of what I presume to be an office building, so it's only open on the weekend, but don't let that deter you. Drip coffee and cold brew were both good and hot the spot. I ordered the goat omelette and my dad ordered the brown butter French toast. We loved both and they were very filling. Speckled Egg was great as always. I got the Breakfast Sando add Bacon. Staff was pleasant as always. One of two reasons this was a 4 instead of a 5 is because they said it would be about 15-20 mins (no issue) and the eggs still were a little runny. If I'm already waiting that amount of time, 1 min more will not hurt. Besides that, one of the best breakfast sandwiches in town. It has a great sauce, bit of a spice kick, eggs are fresh, bacon is on point, and their bun if awesome. The only other issue I have is the ridiculous $14 price tag. $10 sando, $3 for bacon or $4 for sausage + tax. Overall 8 out of 10 breakfast sandwhich from this restaurant. read more

We stopped here for breakfast while staying in the area. There was construction going on so we were able to find free parking. Orders consisted of the smash burger and French toast. So after me finishing my omelette, about 5-10mins, no refills on drinks, I say excuse me as she's with someone else taking their order (as it seems she's completely avoiding us) if my avocado was coming on the side? She said, 'oh no, I know I put it in' she brings back a side of avocado on a plate. I'm done with my omelette. Drops it off, doesn't ask if anything else is needed nothing I finish my side of home fries. She brings the bill and offers a nice day. Looking at the bill, she added on a side of avocado and removed it. Seems she didn't put it on with the omelette. No manager to assess the situation. The horrible communication going on at this place, I'm amused by the 4.5 stars maybe a Friday morning isn't the best time to come here I'm not sure? However, I don't know that I'll be back. The seating here is very confusing. I was a single diner, who saw several open seats at the bar. Put my name and I was told it be a 30 minute wait. I enjoyed the ambience of the lobby while I waited and watch the bar. Several seats stayed open as 30 minutes, then 45 minutes, then an hour passed. Finally, I stood up and looked hungry in front of the host stand. I watched the host dash off to the back, then I received a notification on my phone that my seat was ready. As I approached the host stand, the woman in front of me was immediately seated at the bar. I was seated at the bar after her, in a single seat that have been open the entire time. The service was great with friendly customer service at the bar and greetings by multiple hostesses and hosts. Multiple people also checked in on us throughout our time there. It was so good of a brunch place that we decided to come back here another time in the same week. This time we went on a Wednesday morning, still with no reservation, and got seated immediately at a table. We really enjoyed the vibe of the place, as it is situated in the corner of a historic-looking hotel, with modern decorations and even coffee from Coffee Tree Roasters. In regards to the food, we ordered the Hen's Hash with avocado, I Am...Kaazam! with avocado, Tomato Brisque soup, and Goat Omelet. We also ordered drinks, which were all really great. We had orange juice and 2 Blessed 2B Stressed, which were both pretty great. While I am not the biggest fan of breakfast foods because of how bland it typically is, The Speckled Egg has done a great job of making breakfast and brunch foods flavorful. The I Am...Kaazam! had a savory taste, almost like pasta sauce tasting. This was really great but maybe not for breakfast. The following time, I tried Hen's Hash, and it was great. The potatoes, snap peas, and onions were seasoned so well. We also really liked Tomato Brisque soup but also maybe a bit too heavy for breakfast. I didn't eat here, and I don't like posting negative reviews. This is now the 10th time yelp has asked me to review The Speckled Egg. I have never in my history of dining out for 30 years had a restaurant employee be so incredibly rude to me as the two people were here. I left Pittsburgh still thinking about it and wondering what could have possibly elicited such a response. Now, maybe they were both having an awful day. I like to give folks the benefit of the doubt. But say, for example, their grandmothers were both killed in the same tragic accident. Send them home. I've also worked in food service for a number of years. I get that we have bad days, and busy days, and sometimes horrible customers. If you can't treat humans like humans you shouldn't be working the front of the house. I hate that we live in a time where employees are so hard to find that employers accept horrible behavior because it's their only option. I was there for a conference on childhood grief at the hotel next door and would have stepped in as hostess for an afternoon if they were that understaffed. read more

Really good brunch experience at TSE a few weeks ago! We had a reservation and had to wait about 15 minutes beyond our designated time, it was a VERY busy Saturday morning, but the staff checked on us and made sure that we were seated as soon as possible. We sat at an interesting table setup - two seats were high-tops and one seat was a window cushion, which was unusual. It was comfortable though! I started with a drip coffee and grapefruit juice, and my friends tried a mimosa and a Bellini. The coffee was good - no complaints! For food, I tried the lox'd and loaded bagel which was served open face and came with heaps of greens and cucumber and smoked salmon. My friends both ordered the eggs benedict dish, which they said was very tasty! We split a biscuit with sausage gravy, which may be my meal choice with an egg next time I visit. The gravy was AMAZING. A few things I was so-so on: the meals were served in shallow bowls rather than plates, so using a fork and knife at a small table with those bowls was not the easiest. I hope they change the plate choice! I also noticed a lot of flies around the coffee bar which was slightly off-putting, I'm sure it has to do with doors being opened and from hot weather, but still not ideal to see when I'm waiting for coffee and food. The seating setup is also unusual and seemed a little disjointed, so be prepared for possibility sitting in the building lobby area instead of in the restaurant itself during very busy times. All in all I will definitely plan to return and try some other food on their fun and creative menu! I recommend trying to visit at an off time to avoid heavy crowds! read more

Booking through YELP reservations could not have been easier and when we arrived we only had a 10 minute wait which was reasonable considering how packed it was on a Saturday afternoon. It was very flavorful and each aspect paired well together. The French toast and pancakes were also very tasty! Our mimosas had the perfect champagne orange/ cranberry juice ratio.
