This is a little unassuming joint located next to a gas station. And you're going to be tempted to drive right by. But don't - that would be a huge mistake. The Spot is serving up *fresh* Mexican food made with care. You can tell the owners take pride in the food their serving. Everything is homemade - including their salsas. While in Gardiner, we found this place on Yelp and noticed it was actually really close to where we were staying. It's located next to the gas station/convenience store. We were greeted right away and everyone was very friendly and welcoming. It's a quaint place with the menu right as you walk in. There's some tables and chairs for dining in. We actually all ordered the same thing. They offer a discount for locals. The food was ready in a decent amount of time as well. The food was pretty good, but it was quite expensive for what we got. The rice and beans were a little on the dry side, but the birria tacos were pretty good. read more

After roadtripping for a couple days... I was craving something somewhat healthy lol Now obviously options are gunna be hella limited in smaller towns + certain locations.. but after a quick lil google search, we came across this lil spot (get it) They share a space w a gas station but don't let that fool ya--this was prob the best thing I ate near Yellowstone hahah which is insane bc when I went up to order, the worker didn't even know what "asada" was LOL. They literally looked at me like I was crazy and said "sorry sir we only have beef, chicken, or pork" Their salad was super clean and included arugula, greens, onions, avo, cheese, tortilla strips, sauce, your choice of protein, etc. I'm not even playing yall, this was the change of pace I needed during this trip hahaha. We ordered a burrito, three tacos, and the salad. You can choose beef (not hamburger), carnitas, or chicken for the meat. The Summer salad was a reasonable option for $16, and the burrito was a decent size and good for the $18. But the tacos were shockingly small for $18 -- truly not worth the price. Whatever you do, skip the tacos. They're worth maybe $9 at best and nowhere near enough food to count as a meal. A total ripoff. The burrito and salad are recommended. Great spot for Mexican food right outside Yellowstone National Park! My family and I stopped by and our orders were quickly taken. We SO appreciated the diversity of vegetarian and vegan options - ordered the nachos and the bowl, which were absolutely delicious. Super flavorful veggies and fair portion sizes! Only room for improvement is maybe adding more flavor to the rice. The hostess was very kind and friendly - she gave us a little tour of the hot sauce area and even provided us with a coupon to order them from their site. Little place next to the gas station, doesn't look like much, but there are limited options in Gardiner during the winter, so we decided to try it. I got nachos with chicken, the portion size was great, and loved the queso. The meats change daily, but the birria was the best I tried, not too spicy but flavorful and not dry. I do not understand why this restaurant has so many good reviews. The food was almost inedible. We ordered a burrito, tacos, and a quesadilla. The burrito was freezing cold, and when we brought this up to the workers they completely ignored us and started talking to each other. The tacos were okay, but definitely not worth the price. The only thing that was decent was the quesadilla, but it definitely needed more work. The food is a nice change from the burgers/fries/etc in the area. My kids and I all got bowls with different things on them. Food was fast and tasty and not greasy. Not the most amazing I've ever had but still good. Service was good! The space is in a gas station, which made us almost drive by it. It's small inside but has some tables and counter space. We ended up here because we went to Yellowstone in off season and many of the restaurants in Gardiner were closed. It was pretty good but surprisingly bland. Our food was fresh and the service was friendly. We just felt that the birria and the carnitas seemed to be cooked without much seasoning. The excellent options of salsas and hot sauces on hand fixed this for our order so our dinner ended up quite tasty. Portions were also on the small side. It was tough finding a spot for dinner in Gardiner in October. A lot of places closed for the season and the few open were crowded. We were directed here by a local and apparently we were their second customers at the new brick and mortar place. Very nice folks behind the counter and the portions were definitely on the plus side. Prices were pretty good being in a tourist spot. The view in the back corner table was awesome next to the river. It was a great experience with friendly atmosphere. On day 3 of our winter adventure to Gardiner/ Yellowstone we ordered the nachos, and a couple of burritos. Wow. Stunning ingredients. It's like the universe knew our bodies needed to be refueled with nourishment and sent us to this amazing restaurant. Every bite was 100% amazing. If you are in Gardiner there is no better place to eat. The black beans were cooked to perfection all the ingredients were spot on and perfectly seasoned. We will be eating as many meals possible here until we leave Gardiner and return to Santa Cruz CA. I am writing this review with anticipation and excitement of returning the next two days and eating all our meals here before we leave. We went to Gardiner for a weekend and ate at Tacocat both nights. It's open until 10:30 PM which is later than the other restaurants. They'd only been open a week so it was easy to get food without a wait. Spread the word! The first night we had a rice bowl, the carnitas quesadilla, and eloté. All three were delicious. The eloté cob comes cut into four spears so it's easy to eat. Much more manageable and shareable. The rice bowl was enough to be two meals for me. The 2nd night, my husband and I shared an order of the nachos for dinner. They were also delicious. Sadly, we dug in and forgot to take pictures of the food both nights. We had a great chat with the owner, Angela, while we were eating our nachos and it sounds like they've got some awesome ideas they hope to implement as the business grows. And I certainly hope it does. We found Tacocat by accident. We were charging our car and went into the gas station for snacks. I saw the sign and we decided to check it out since the other restaurants in town were packed and their (very similar) menus weren't grabbing us.
