During out nine day trip across four states, we were treated to several truly wonderful memorable meals. Outside of the $400 bespoke omakase sushi we had in SLC, the food here at Follow Yer Nose came in second...and only just barely! A friend of mine noticed on social media that we were staying in the (very) near vicinity (practically across the street), and insisted we give this place a shot. I haven't seen him in person for several years, but apparently, he is a VERY good friend, because...whoo-wee! Fantastic pulled pork, sausages, and sides, all liberally soaked in various flavors of in-house BBQ sauces that I desperately tried to find bottles of to purchase and take back home with me. Sadly, that wasn't an option at the time, which means that my wife and I will be regularly courting the idea of a 12-hour drive to return here. Get here early, queue up, order what you will from the (rapidly diminishing) board behind the counter, and you'll be served some of the best brisket you've ever had, practically before you've had a chance to snag a table and sit down! Prices are excellent for the portion size and quantity, although we ended up ordering a bit extra, to tide us over on the long drive home (spoiler alert: it didn't survive the journey; it was long gone before then!). read more

Run, do not walk to this authentic BBQ joint in the middle of nowhere. I've eaten BBq all over the country including brisket from some of the best joints in Texas. And I may sound crazy, but the brisket here is on par if not superior to Texas style brisket. The smoke flavor, smoke ring and tenderness were absolutely amazing. I think beef over all in MT is just of a higher quality and the pit-master here knows what he is doing. I had the beans as a side and they were good but nothing to write home about. Tons of character and smoke encompass this place. Sadly won't be able to return anytime soon but I highly recommend giving it a try. Apologies, no pics. I don't know how we've lived in the area for so long and are just finding out about Follow Yer Nose. We stopped in on our way home from Gardiner and I'm glad we did. Definitely one of the best bbq spots I've had on this side of the state! The brisket was smoked to perfection-great flavor and not dry at all. There's nothing I despise more than a dry, chewy brisket. My husband isn't typically a fan of pork ribs and he loved these! They were falling off the rib just like real bbq should. The sides were good, we had baked beans and mac & cheese, but they don't compare to the flavor you get from the bbq meats. I'm usually a sauce girly but it wasn't needed here. I actually think the sauces took too much away from the smokiness of the meat. The peppa sauce though...so good! Everyone we interacted with was very friendly. It was a great time overall with a very laid back, local vibe. We'll definitely be back. read more

We catered them a couple years ago for our wedding & everyone loved it. Everything we were able to get was great, but it's 1 1/2 from closing time and they were pretty much out of everything. We were able to get pulled pork, beans, and bread, that was it. I know it's summer and all, but this wasn't the weekend, we're talking a Wednesday night. We were staying in Paradise Valley, so after a day in the park, it was nice to not to have to eat at a touristy spot in Gardiner or drive all the way back to Livingston, it's just a bummer that we couldn't try more of their offerings. This was recommended to us as a "must try" while in MT. I'm glad we stopped! We've tried different bbq spots throughout the US and this is one of the best we've ever had. The whole set up of the place was fun. It has cool outdoor seating, lights, and good country music playing. I tried the brisket, sausage, loaded pasta salad, and coleslaw. My wife tried the dancing ned and she enjoyed it. I'd recommend everyone should at minimum try the brisket and loaded pasta salad. Bonus tip - they own the bakery nextdoor too. There was a line when we went there on a Thursday night at 7pm, so we waited about 45 minutes. I think it was due to a popular singer having a concert next door. We ordered a couple of drinks at the bar as we waited. The cider was good. I nice lady/local in front of us recommended the Brisket so we had to get that. I thought it was good but a bit too fatty for me; over 50% of what we got. We also had the pulled pork, half a chicken (that's the only thing my child would eat, and unfortunately, they didn't have children portions), collard greens, and beans. Meats fell off the bone, beans were sweet, greens were greens. I'm not a fan of benches, but that's the only seating option. It's a fun atmosphere with a good vibe. read more

We stopped by this place on our way back from Yellowstone. Amazing. We got there about 6pm on a Saturday night and the menu was slim I am sure due to selling out most of their offerings. We split the baby back ribs, beans and candied jalapeños. All are a must. The ribs were done to perfection. The beans were perfectly cooked with a sweet flavor and the candied jalapeños with their subtle heat was a welcomed surprise. Cold beer on tap and their sauces were a nice variety. Came here for a friend's birthday back in April and ordered the brisket, the ribs, a few different sides and got 4 bags of their beef jerky. The brisket was soooo good and the ribs were no different. We loved the jerky so much that when we got home and finished the bags, I called them up and ordered 10lbs of it to be sent to me in Michigan. Their customer service is impeccable. I was floored at how they handled part of the shipping issue I had that wasn't their fault. They handled it with so much care, without me even asking. I can't recommend this place enough. If you're in town and you want some good bbq or even if you're out of town and you want the best, most tender beef jerky you've ever had, look no further. Amazing spot for BBQ!!! Actually, one of my fave spots now for BBQ anywhere in the US. I eat BBQ mostly in TN and can say that this spot beats many. We went here 3 times in 2 days!!! Staff is so friendly. The restaurant itself is on an outdoor patio with table seating. We ate the pulled pork, ribs, sausage, and brisket. Sides - greens, cole slaw, and garlic bread. Everything was so tasty. Best greens I've had in a long time. Cole slaw wasn't overly seasoned with creaminess/mayo. All the meat was smoked so well with such a great flavor. read more

I don't know when or if I will ever return to this edge of the park since Yellowstone has different entrance areas but I want to highly recommend follow your nose. It is excellent barbecue. They have pulled pork, ribs, chicken, and all sorts of sides. It's excellent food taste just like the southern barbecue or Texas style barbecue. Of course someone who knows the difference will know better but close enough for me. I was fortunate to meet with these wonderful people. I met on my rafting trip and we all agreed that the food was fantastic. The lady working in the window was really polite and nice. The guy was a little bit rude but the lady was super nice and the food was excellent. So I went to FYN for lunch while staying at the Chico Springs Resort--less than 10 minutes away. Very unremarkable experience. I got one of the daily specials--chicken thigh sandwich. The ciabatta role was excellent, the chicken was ok, nothing special. Then I looked at the reviews and person after person (seemingly all from Texas) said this was the best barbecue in the state of Montana. I started wondering what I missed. We ended up making three stops in 2 days here! Note that they are closed Tuesday and Wednesday. So we had brisket and sausage for dinner with their ciabatta bread. And they have 5 types of bbq sauce! The next day we had pulled pork with their baked beans and their "Clint Eastwood" huckleberry/limeade. Yum. We found out they were making burnt ends, so the Hubbs went back at 5pm to get a pound of those with the slaw, the pasta salad and more beans. We really ate well that night (and leftovers for later!) I came here at 5pm and there was barely anyone here. Then about 20 minutes later it was packed and there was a line, so I recommend getting here a little bit before then. Also, it's better to come earlier so things aren't sold out when you arrive. There is no indoor seating but there is some shaded outdoor tables. I ordered the brisket sandwich ($12), a side of coleslaw ($3) and a whiskey peach cider ($9.50). The brisket sandwich was so fatty and juicy and the brisket itself was very good. The coleslaw was good to cut through the fattiness of the brisket. They have four different kinds of sauces that you can try; my favorite was their signature one which was slightly sweet and tangy and my second favorite was their spicy one whose name I forgot. This place is amazing! The staff is so helpful and friendly, the beer is ice cold, and the BBQ is unreal! The baby back ribs are the best we've ever had....i love that they don't sauce them so you can add your own or none at all, they are tender, meaty, and don't taste overly smoky (if that makes sense) but have so much flavor. We got the smoked turkey to go and made sandwiches all week for the park. The sides are so good. Nothing here was a miss! Wow. That's all I can say. Didn't expect to find good bbq in Montana. We found out about this place through Yelp. We were leaving Yellowstone and wanted something to eat, saw that this place have amazing review so check it out. It's takeout only but they had a few tables across the street you can use. We got the pulled pork sandwich, a 1/2 lb of brisket, Cole slaw, collard greens, and beans. They also gave us the option to try all their bbq sauces which was awesome. The brisket was probably the best brisket I ever had. It was a perfect brisket filled with everything you want, fatty portion, lean portion, flavorful, tender. It was really good brisket. The pulled pork was also really good. I like that they didn't smothered the pulled pork in sauces so you can taste the flavors but it was definitely on the dry side for me. It's also the one bbq place that I been to that actually toast the bread. The side was standard, but the sauce was really good. I love all of the sauces, they were tangy, flavorful and definitely hard to choose one over the other. It's a bbq place literally in the middle of nowhere, but it was definitely a place to go if you ever visit Yellowstone from the north entrance. read more

Absolutely incredible food. I have celiac and it's hard to eat out and get good food. Almost everything on the menu was already made gluten free including all of their bbq sauces, seasonings and rubs. The only items on the menu not GF were the bread for the sandwiches and the pasta salad side. They had lots of other sides options and GF buns. When they offered to warm up the bun, they confirmed if a shared cooktop was ok, and had no problem accommodating when I said it was not. I am super sensitive and didn't get sick. I'm from Texas. That inherently comes with its own level of bbq snobbery. That being said I'm always game to try bbq out of state to see who can hang. Let me tell you.... They can HANG! This is some bad ass que! We tried it all, the pulled pork, brisket and smoked Turkey. All friggin awesome. And their sauces are some of the best I've ever tried. All homemade. Six different ones. This restaurant was recommended to us by our Airbnb host for our one night before we went into Yellowstone. It was amazing.
