The food was good. The restaurant itself was on the colder side. The outside doors were left open maybe as an out of towner I am just not used to the cold. And it allowed moths to fly inside. Let me start with saying that our waitress was very good. I wouldn't say excellent because I think they, like many places today, are understaffed so we had to wait for service. But when she came, she was friendly, attentive and got our order right. The Spot is not what it used to be. A typical noisy local bar, it used to be a great "spot" to go for happy hour or a burger. It was always busy. Not so much last night. Noisy but not busy. The Spot was never a top end restaurant but their food was consistent and pretty tasty. Their calamari used to be in the top three that I ever had and now it isn't even on the menu. The queso had good flavor but like the white gravy for the chicken it was very pasty like it come out if I can - and had barely been heated. Other people at my table had fried fish and steak, neither looked very good. The steak was thin and cooked medium well, even though it was ordered medium rare. And the fish was also thin looking with a very dark crusty batter. It looked a little greasy and not appetizing. But, my biggest complaint was that I found a long hair in my hamburger. At first I thought it was mine that somehow got into my mouth while I was eating my burger. But then I found another and another and another. Then once in the car and on the way home, someone told me they never wanted to go back because they found hairs in their hamburger. So it wasn't just me! Gross! Hands down one of the best slices of loafed meat I've ever had. Super smooth, three thumbs up. I got the Mac n Cheese as a side and was pleased with flavor and creamy cheesiosity but it was lacking the crunchy bits or baked cheese top that we all love and know. Sooo good!!! I hadn't been there in about 12 years, but we're stuck in a nearby hotel because of a water problem in my house. So we ordered thru Grubhub Everything was so good!! I'm addicted to the potato kegs! And the Brussel sprouts were epic! The Mac and cheese - yum. But the real highlights were the steak Flatbread and the stuffed shrimp. So, so good. And I'm picky about seafood. Everything was packed really well and the portions were big. The chicken nuggets were made with white meat that even picky kids liked. Just great overall. I think we came here on a Saturday night if I am not mistaken. We got in a little early around 6:30pm. Got a high top table. We ordered food and about 2 rounds of drinks. Talking and enjoying the conversations with another couple we came with. Our waitress was really sweet and shy I think because she spoke very soft in such a loud environment. But she was attentive. The food was alright, not amazing, but good for pub/bar food. I had their prime rib special of the day.. and it was nice. Very tough but still good. Filling to say the least. The only thing that irritates me more than anything else is when the waiters make us feel like we have to leave. My husband and my friend's husband had finished eating but was still working on their 2nd beer and enjoying their time off to talk and relax. I and my girlfriend was still working on our food and beers. They came over and asked us if we wanted a to-go box about 4 times. I get that your pub is starting to pick up and you're trying to seat a table of about 10 guys and their family... however we're paying customers as well. We tip as well. I'm pretty sure that once you take my money and serve me, I have the right to sit there and enjoy my meal and drinks... right? We would've ordered a couple of more drinks but they kept looking at our table... and asking us if we wanted boxes or if we were done. Then they even pointed to our table and told the other guests that once we left they'd have all those tables... so that encouraged the group of men to stand right next to our table..... If you were going to come with you wives and children to a pub with your buddies, you should've came earlier than 7:30pm. While the food was ok, the service was terrible. We chose to sit outside and the weather was good but the traffic noise made it difficult to have a conversation at times. The waiter took our drinks and appetizers order. We got both in a reasonable amount of time. We finished the appetizers and then waited about 20 minutes more before he took our entrees order. We got the entrees about 30 minutes after ordering and we did not order anything that should have taken that long. They have a plain hamburger on the menu. My husband ordered that. His "plain" hamburger came with cheese, lettuce, and tomato. That is not a plain hamburger. He told the food runner that was not what he ordered. The runner took the plate back to the kitchen. The runner comes back and asked if he wanted the cheese or not. Hubby said the cheese is ok but not the tomato and lettuce. He got the plate back with the lettuce and tomato removed but he had to scrape the tomato seeds off his burger. We did not see the waiter again until we were nearly done eating. I asked for a refill on my soda. That took another 10 minutes and we were totally done eating. We had to ask for the check and that took another 10 minutes. It wasn't until I said, out loud, with an older employee near by that looked like a manager, "I wonder if there's a cash register inside so we can just pay and leave." Our waiter appeared fairly quickly and my husband just handed him the credit card. The waiter then goes to check on another table (something he did not do for us) before going inside to run the card! This is not a fancy restaurant where dinner should take over an hour but we arrived at 6:45ish and left at 8:45! It was not really busy either. I may consider giving the place another try because even the best places have an off day now and again but the service needs to improve dramatically. read more

I'll be honest with you when our order arrived via Grubhub we were initially disappointed. The meatloaf looked like a couple of sad brownies with a bit of sauce (gravy) on them and the burrito bowl looked like it was purchased from a grocery store. But they both tasted pretty darn good. The side of tater tots however were a bit under baked and soggy. They didn't have that crisp when you bite them. That brings us to the Key Lime pie...barf! I really like the Spot. To me, it's a foolproof place - the food is good, the beer is good, the staff is friendly. They're menu stretches beyond bar food staples like burgers and nachos - they've got pasta, Mexican, steak (including prime-rib after 5 on weekdays), seafood, and pizza. They have a particularly delicious surf and turf that comes with yummy crab cakes. When it's nice out, I prefer their outdoor seating located on a size-able patio that's blocked off just enough so you only see the tops of the lush green trees that line the street. Despite the Spot being a sports bar, I've never gone to catch a game, but my husband and his friends/co-workers have. They've got big ol' TV screens around the bar with several games on at once, which is important since Connecticut is a state that must appease to both Boston and New York fans. They're also the only bar I know that's got a wi-fi connection. (Maybe I just don't get out that much...) So if you're got a fantasy team, then you don't have to stay cooped up in the house or call your wife every 20 minutes to check your players' scores. My friends and I ordered drinks yesterday and Nicole for some reason thought it would be funny to serve one of our friends a fake non alcoholic drink... we asked her why their wasn't alcohol in the drink and she admitted to doing so because she thought our friend may have been drunk. Nicole realized she was wrong and took the non alcoholic drink off the bill. She then continued to start problems with my other friends for trying to explain to her that next time you think someone's drunk you just don't serve them at all not give them a fake drink. Nicole then started to go legit crazy ! I've never seen anything like it before... on the way out she even called my other friend a bitch. Had the pleasure of eating at this location this Saturday night. The martinis are reasonably priced and so was the food. Many apps, sandwiches and entrees to choose from. They also had specials. I had the cranberry chicken salad sandwich with the house made chips. My dining partner had the salmon with pasta and veggies. Both meals were delicious. The place was immaculately clean. No debris, dust or clutter present. The TVs were tuned to sports and we headed to the bar after our meal. Every staff member observed was friendly to all patrons. Yesterday I had the country fried chicken sandwich with creamy gravy and it was delicious. Today I had the southwest egg rolls and they were delicious too. Burgers and beef schnitzel sandwich also good. The potato salad is the BEST I've ever had! My husband and I came here for dinner today, we haven't been here in a long time and when we have been here we had burgers and small items never dinner. Today we ordered garlic knots and they came out super fast and were delicious! For dinner I ordered shrimp and scallops Alfredo it was pretty good! A few things that disappointed us, when we walked in we asked to be seated outside the hostess said she would go check if the tables were still wet (it had rained earlier in the day) she came back and said they were wet and no one had cleaned them...LOL ok? Just thought it was unprofessional and maybe just go clean them? Idk then they sat us down and our waitress came out very sweet and friendly! But when we asked what the specials were or house bourbon she had no idea, so maybe just be informed on the specials? All and all I was a good experience and we would go back. I have lived near this place for 20 years and it used to be very good. The food the past couple years has been awful. I went there tonight with a friend and was again very disappointed. I ordered a Ruben and it was the fattiest Ruben I have ever personally seen. The meat was so fatty I pulled a piece of that literally had no meat on it, it was strictly fat. I complained and got no satisfaction. Beware. This place has gone downhill and the food is terrible. To review a visit for breakfast with my son 3 months ago it was pretty much the same thing. The eggs were all over cooked, the sausage and bacon were both deep fried I think and for way too long. if not they had been made long in advance and had dried to a leathery consistency. A great place to go if you're trying to watch the game in New London/Groton. Lots of televisions and they have the NFL Package so you can see pretty much any game. The food is very good too. I had a salad, wings, and pizza. The wings were excellent. Not enough types of sauces though, they only had 3 or 4. I thought the pizza was pretty good. Not the best I've had, but not the worst. Lots of cheese and sauce on the pizza, a little too much in my opinion. Finally price...a pizza for two costs only 6.99 but an order of wings is 8.99. Good food. Poor service. Came here about 4:30 on a Saturday. Seated right away. Corn chowder and southwest egg rolls were very good. I had sirloin and shrimp which was flavorful and cooked as asked. My son had littlenecks dinner which was steamed with garlic and butter and tasted very good. My husband had prime rib special. It was cooked as asked but didn't have much flavor. I guess it didn't matter to our waitress if we liked the food because she never asked, didn't offer refills on drinks, dropped off food and abruptly walked away, and here's the real kicker so hold onto your hats - our waitress took mine and my son's dessert orders, never looked at my husband, walked away so fast that he had to wait until our desserts came to the table to order his. She dropped off our desserts so fast he had to loudly say "excuse me can I order dessert" as she was tables away. How's that for service??? That didn't matter to her either. No apology, no how's everything, no drink refills, nothing. I said no tip but my husband's nicer than me because she still got her 15 percent from him. Shame on this place.
