I didn't really know what to expect going in, but it actually turned out to be really good! The service was just okay -- I think our server was also the bartender, so she was running around a lot. The food tasted great, but it was a bit cold by the time we got it. It was pretty busy when we went, so that might've been why. I totally forgot to take pics until we were almost done eating. Shared the seafood platter with a friend, and wow was it great! Waffle fries were extra crispy and seasoned well. Onion rings were thin just how I like em. Enjoyed the variety of shrimp, all of which were fried to perfection! The pineapple sauce for the coconut shrimp was a bit too sweet, so I stuck with the tartar and cocktail sauce for dipping. The coleslaw didn't taste like much. The star of the show was the tilapia filet. It was huge!! Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and so flavorful- it had no fishiness to it whatsoever. When in Galveston, you got to go to The Spot! Such a great, casual restaurant overlooking the beach with both indoor and outdoor seating. They have a big menu with lots of options so everyone can find something they want! It's a family friendly restaurant and within the original location, they have a tiki bar and ice cream shop. It's a fun environment with really great service! The place is pretty big so even if there's a line because it's a popular spot (called THE Spot after all), I'd say it's worth the wait. The food is good, the drinks are cold, the atmosphere is chill and it makes for a good time. Go enjoy! read more

This was the first food recommendation we did not agree with. The first gentleman that assisted our party of 7 was great. He then told us to go to a lady to seat us, and she told us we needed to find someplace to sit on our own. My sister asked why he would send us to her if we were supposed to find seats on our own, and she replied that they do not guarantee seats and we needed to go look around for seating. Some of us went to see if we could find seats for our group and 2 went to look for the man who originally assisted us. Just as we were getting seats together, the 2 with the man came and said that he was going to seat us, but we thanked him and said that we were all set. We then realized that food was being brought out to tables and we didn't see any waiters. I saw a man cleaning tables and I told him that we were from Michigan and I asked if he could explain their system to us. We then found out that we needed to go and place our order to receive a tracker, and then we would place the tracker on our table so the food could be brought to us. The food came out fairly quickly. My sister and I decided to split the Seafood Platter, my dad ordered it as well, and so did my brother (3 total). My mom had Fish & Chips, my sister-in-law had a burger, and my nephew had Lemon Pepper Wings with mac and cheese. Those of us with the Seafood Platter were disappointed. It came with Shrimp kisses, fried shrimp, coconut shrimp, beer-battered cod, tilapia filet, seasoned waffle fries, onion strings, hush puppies, honey-citrus slaw. The slaw looked liked dried cut up cabbage, and we did not taste honey-citrus or any other sauce. The hush puppy (and I love hush puppies!) was a big, greasy, fried too long ball of dough. Some of the shrimp was good, as well as the tilapia. The rest of our party liked their food except for the mac and cheese. My nephew didn't even want to try it, so me and his dad did and we agreed that it missed the mark. I gave 2 stars since some in our party liked their food, and also for the 2 gentlemen who were nice. They are not. Our bar waitress did not know how to respond to "What beers do you have on tap?" A different bar waitress asked if we told our server where we were seated. A. Who's my server? B. The pickles were over battered and the wife had a cup of peeled batter discarded on the plate. The calamari had to have been frozen in 1998 and was absolutely horrible. We were celebrating our Valentine's Day as a couple my husband and I... we were able to order crawfish and the waiter dropped crawfish all over my dress/shoes... not only did he leave right after but when he came back he Only brought a rag after having me near tears. With all the changes happening in Galveston I was really glad to see that this staple was still standing! The food was really good that it made me crave seafood the entire week to the point that I went out my way to buy seafood to make cocktail shrimps. Seafood platter: 5 Everything was fried really well since the taste of the seafood still shined through. The beer batter made everything crispy and it wasn't drenched in oil. The shrimp kiss was my least favorite since I could only taste the bacon but I loved the coconut shrimp. Blackened Fish: 4 This was a solid taco. The fish was juicy and fried well. The purple cabbage did overwhelm the flavor of the fish a bit so I'd recommend that you'd eat it separately and then eat the taco. I got the regular since I was worried that the sauce and the frying process would mute the flavor of the mahi mahi. The chips were a bit bland but you can easily get full by just eating the tacos. Service: 5 The service was really well organized and fast. You go up to the counter to order your food and there you get a buzzer. You then get your drink and then pick the table you want to eat at. When you're at the table you set your buzzer down in the middle and that's how the server know which table you're at. They then bring the food out to you when it's ready! Great for what we were looking for. The Spot and its friends have a Disney World level of efficiency, wait line systems, ordering queue, and trackers that help the server find you. Lump crab & avocado and diablo shrimp tacos were delicious. View was amazing and the drinks were decent. Note: We went at 2pm for lunch and it was full, but we had virtually no wait. When we walked by on our way to dinner the wait was over an hour just to get in the building. My Uncle suggested this Spot while we were exploring Galveston. We had an EXCELLENT experience. We came on a weekday in March... the day was a bit on the cold/windy/rainy side so there wasn't a wait. I liked the counter ordering and that the food was brought out to us. My daddy-o and I both got Buffalo Chicken Sandwiches with seasoned waffle fries. Everything was hot, fresh and tasty AF. The sando was a bit on the messy side with the spicy Buffalo sauce but luckily they have rolls of paper towel on the table. The fries were perfect. I literally ate every last bite of my meal... even beating my pops. My Uncle got the Ralph burger and thoroughly enjoyed his meal as well. As for the staff here, they are all top notch! Everyone from the greeter to the cashier to the food runners to the bussers were so friendly and helpful. Price-wise, our sandwiches were $13.99 I believe. I have no idea why this place is so loved. After seeing it had literally 10,000+ reviews on google I decided to come here for my birthday dinner with friends on a Sunday night. It was absolutely packed- not a problem we got in line to wait. But what was extremely confusing was their concept is multiple bars as well as a restaurant all in one place. If you are waiting in line to be sat, you can also go around to the different bars and sit there if you want, but no one tells you that. No one also tells you that you are waiting in line NOT to be sat at a table but to be herded to an order counter like sheep without any time to look at the menu because they do not provide instructions or menus while you wait in line, forcing you to panic order. Literally, they herded 30 plus people at once from the line outside into this tiny room with a menu on a screen over an ordering counter like fast food. This is NOT a sit down restaurant, and sorry this was my first time here and I did a TON of research and that was never made apparent. Then after you order, you are absolutely on your own to figure out where you are going to sit, how the food will find you, and they give you ZERO instruction as to how you can get new drinks, order alcohol, even where to go for extra napkins or if you need a sauce because you do not have a dedicated server. Not only that, but because it was quite literally PANDEMONIUM in there, they DOUBLE CHARGED multiple people in my party for food we didn't order and we had no idea how to rectify it because they had just let in another herd of 50 people and the line to the ordering counter was out the door of the restaurant (that's to order, not even just the general line to get it). I have never in my life seen such a poorly structured, run, and organized establishment. All that aside, if you want to tell me it's my fault of not realizing this was glorified fast food, we had to panic run around to find a table in a tiny attic room. Where our food stated to come out in fits and starts. Multiple people were done before I even got my food, and finally we had to flag someone down and they just forgot it! All the food was greasy, ice cold, and had no flavor. I had the fried shrimp plate and it was absolutely disgusting. In order to get an alcoholic beverage, I had to come down from the attic and fight my way through throngs of people in line to order to get to a bar to order a drink and wait for it and pay for it there, then fight my way back with a full cup and back to my attic quarters. Plus the margarita I ordered they filled the goblet MAYBE 2/3 of the way. I will NEVER step food in this place again. Atrocious. read more

This visit was for a pick up order for a couple of grilled chicken sandwiches. I called in the order and while the guy taking my order was super fun and friendly, he made a comment that was probably nothing but left me a bit unsettled just the same. He said you have to give your credit card number over the phone, so I did. Then he said "I like that credit card number, but don't worry I won't remember it!"
