Considering that I'm a local, this place used to be my favorite go to spot for drinks and wings. But the last few times I've been to the upstairs bar the bartenders/servers are not very welcoming at all, they never have a smile on their face and they don't know how to make some of the drinks on the menu. I did go late at night with my sister around 10:30pm and was told they close at midnight but everyone seemed like they were ready to go and shutting down at 10:40... the bartender didn't even give us a last call to order another drink and she said it loud and clear to her co worker that she was told to shut it down at 11 o'clock. So when I asked if I could order another drink she rolled her eyes and said "gimme a minute" and proceeded to shut down the bar. The lemon drop margarita of the month was good but the hospitality was not worth waiting so we left. read more

Customer service alright when we got in we had to find our own table . I asked for a cup of water and found a long hair in it ! My Husband order a Diablo shrimp and it was serve to him cold we told the server it was cold 4 min later he brought his plate back and it was still cold they just microwave it . Not my first time but it's been a few years. This was a late lunch on a Friday in January. So it wasn't crowded. Service was good. They do ask for your card up front before you order. The view is excellent. The chips and queso were tasty. The onion rings were excellent. The smash burger was ok. I didn't like the pickles or the sauce and the bread is a little thick for my taste. Others may love it though. It's in a prime tourist location, so as expected, the prices were high for burgers. Parking can be tricky. And I know it gets crowded and there are long waits in the regular season or nights and weekends. Overall it's a nice beach vibe. Would recommend. read more

Came here because it came up as a good place to dine. WRONG Food: NO, one time visit! I ordered the Fish & Chips ($35)...the batter was thick, doughy and a bit over cooked outside but could not have been cooked much longer before burning. I actually end up removing the fish (dry) from the inside to eat without the batter and left a lot of food. The dish came with 3 fish strips, waffle fries (not a fan), tartar sauce (good), coleslaw (ok), cocktail sauce. I had a Hurricane, taste like it was pre-made. Service: OK, open seating. You go through the line to place your order, given a buzzer, find an available table, and wait for food to be delivered (they find you based on the buzzer location). I left a tip, the food quality is not the server's fault. Ambiance: Ate outside under umbrellas, nice breeze off the water. The ground was not cared for after table cleanup so birds were having their way eating what was dropped. A couple came in with a service dog and the dog had started eating from the food that was on the ground, owner pulled it back. After that seen, it was time to go. I was done with the food before that but still sipping my drink, left it too! I picked the wrong "Spot" today with "The Spot" come back or recommend. read more

We came to The Spot because everyone in Galveston says it's the best place. Let's get into it. Ambiance: The set up of the restaurant is very overcrowded with the tables and chairs being almost intertwined to the point where you have to walk sideways to move through the restaurant. There are birds and flies... in groups... everywhere... on the ground, on the chairs, on the tables, and yes... trying to get your food at all times. It was unsettling, uncomfortable, and felt very unsanitary. Service: the service was okay. Nothing great, nothing bad. I don't have much to say about it. Food: so they brought me the wrong burger the first time (the sweet and spicy burger) which looked very good but it is not what I ordered. I forgot to take a picture of my correct burger but I got the King burger. I really hate to say this but it was awful. The meat was not seasoned with so much as salt or pepper. It was so greasy on the bottom that the bottom bun was disintegrating as I picked it up.. the fries were decent. We also had fried pickles in the beginning that were solid. Drinks: my partner ordered a frozen mango margarita that came as liquidy as juice. I ordered a spicy margarita that had a chemical taste. Great service! (ok, with the exception of the hostess stand...). You order your food and drinks and are given a pager. Find a table and the servers find you. Very friendly service, bus "boys" are great! I'd give that a 5 for sure. Food... eh. Not so great. We ordered mozzarella sticks - they were huge! But unfortunately they were not hot. This was my second time here and I had great service both times. My sister is autistic and a picky eater and couldn't explain why she didn't like her food, and they were still accommodating and very kind and helpful and went above and beyond in getting the issue resolved. My snapper was excellent and I had no complaints and would definitely order it again, the fish and mango were both very fresh. The bathroom was clean and the seating was comfortable, which is important to me in a restaurant. My only single complaint is that I do think something was wrong with their soda machine, because my Dr Pepper tasted off. That seems like a temporary issue though. read more

It had a very good variety of fish and shrimp. The coleslaw was the only thing on the platter that wasn't good, like no flavor. This is an interesting establishment, five venues at one location. We went last Sunday to watch the Texans. The atmosphere was great, it was a beautiful day on the beach. Football fans were everywhere. Great happy hour selections! Since we were waiting on a couple of our friends to arrive, we decided to order an appetizer big enough for a party of four. The appetizer came out room temperature. We decided not to order from the main menu for that reason. The restroom in the bar area on the second floor needs attention. One working sink and 3/4 stalls function. You can park in a lot for $10 on the weekend if the parking lot is at capacity (it's small ) or in the parking garage across the street. I'm going to update my review from 2015; The Spot has really included some vegetarian options to the menu. The service has improved and the staff is more attentive. They place the food on the table and are asking, "did I get it right?" or "was it anything else that you needed?" The ambiance is about the same and it was quite crowded, but I was able to hold and hear the conversation that I was having. The Tropical black bean burger was vegan when I took off the cheese and it was still pleasantly tasty. The mango salsa really put the spices in the taste of the black beans. I'm happy that they didn't put corn into the binding of the burger. The bread was soft and paired well with the beans. Oh my, the waffle fries were way better than Chick-a-fil (didn't spell it wrong, but y'all remember when that used to be the spelling, right?!) The Spot is a great location on the beach in Galveston. It is a huge restaurant that is half dining and half bar, and you can tell it is really lively during sporting events and peak times. Walking in there are wait markers, and it reminded me of the lines at Disneyland (though there was no wait when we went). Seating is both indoor and outdoor with a view of the gulf, and you order at the counter and have the food delivered to your table. Overall the food was ok, if not great, and prices were reasonable, but then again I base everything off NYC and Phoenix so my baseline might be off a bit. We basically ordered a little of everything and the fried gulf shrimp and coconut shrimp were the winners. The chicken tenders and breaded fish were not too great. I also recommend the onion rings and bacon-wrapped shrimp (shrimp kisses). I absolutely love the spot. This restaurant isn't like a typical one, but it definitely never disappoints to start. It has a beautiful view on seawall. It's a few stories tall, it's not the typical restaurant where you're served by a waiter or waitress. You basically go to the front, order, then they give you a number and they call you down to grab your food. The food is pretty good, I love their shrimp Poboy. They also have a great queso. I've had their crawfish a few times. It's definitely very tourist heavy so parking can be hell. Other than that, it's a great place to eat. read more

My son is allergic to dairy. We called ahead to make sure they had an allergen menu which they advised they did. We got to the restaurant and asked about the allergen menu the hostess advised that there was one at the ordering counter and she couldn't find hers. We had to ask multiple other people if they had the allergen menu and they advised that there was no allergen menu. Then finally one person advised they located it. We advised the staff that our young child was allergic to dairy and according to the allergen menu he could have the fire cracker shrimp no slaw because the sauce on the slaw contains dairy. His order came out with the shrimp in the dressed slaw. We sent it back and the annoyed employee just removed the dressed slaw and kept the shrimp and on the same plate. We explained again that he can't have dairy because he is allergic, not by choice. We had to request that the shrimp be remade so that it did not come in contact with the dressed coleslaw. Multiple employees made comments and blew their breath and snarled at us. The employee seemed inconvenienced by a simple fix to a mistake that was made in their error. Finally one helpful employee got the chef to help us because they saw the absolute ridiculous incident that occurred. We will not be back and I am so saddened by the situation because it's suppose to be a family restaurant. All this after playing over 100 for lunch. read more

We love The Spot. My husband had a work trip here two years in a row and my kids loved it so much each visit we went twice. The best score is that kids eat free on Tuesday, which we had no idea until we came on Tuesday. Needless to say that was just an amazing bonus. Always a good meal here for the most part. Our burgers were cooked extra extra well done which was a little sad because we came back for the classics but it was still a good deal because you get fries and soft serve. Kids eat free on Tuesdays which was a nice touch. Parking was easy on a weekday but weekends and holidays can get busy. My wings were a little soft and not as well cooked as they used to make. I miss the old wings. Fried pickles were on point. Kids chicken tenders were delicious. Service was excellent except for the lady who jumped on the register when I was trying to input my information for points and then rudely state that it asked if I wanted a receipt and she had printed it out. I was like dang I'm trying to sign up for the email. She looked at me like I was stupid. Never had service like that from The Spot so I was surprised. Everyone else who worked there was great. We went to get soft serve which wasn't cold enough so we got semi melted soft serve basically. The managers were eating and when they saw us immediately got up to help us. There was some sort of miscommunication between staffs considering we had about 30 people in our group. We were seated upstairs in one of the bedrooms. As much as it pains me to do this, I have got to come down on my rating for The Spot. Every year when we come down to the beach for our annual Memorial Day weekend trip, The Spot is a must stop for us. We usually make one or two more trips during beach season, and have always enjoyed the experience. Last year in 2023 we visited, and it was just meh. This year we visited for our annual trip and the food was not good. Not even mediocre at best. The burgers had no taste, the kids complained their mac and cheese was bad, and our guests were not impressed. The appetizer cheese sticks were the only good part of both of our meals. I do not know what changed, but the food quality has went down. I do not know if it was a price saving measure that undercut the quality, but whatever they changed, I wish they would change it back. It is like they have no love and passion for the taste of the food. I will say, however, the service is still top notch, and the environment is also still great. But if I am paying $70 for my family to eat there, I expect better food. For now, in my mind The Spot has turned into a tourist trap. While I am a huge supporter of the owner, and his chivalrous acts for his employees and the community, The Spot is no longer on our short list of places we must stop when we visit Galveston. When the food improves, we will return. Until then, we wish the owner and his crew the best. Sorry, I do not recommend The Spot anymore. I'll keep tabs on the reviews of other Yelpers and hope it improves. read more
