We went to The Spot for an early dinner before the Aces game. It wasn't very busy, but the service was still just okay. We had to wait quite a while to order drinks and even longer to order a second drink, even though there were almost as many staff as there were tables. They have a decent happy hour menu with good prices. The food was also okay. We ordered carne asada and jackfruit tinga tacos. The carne asada was good, but could have had more toppings. The tinga tacos would have been better with more cilantro and onions. We likely won't be back. read more

This place is so inviting and has a great welcoming vibe. I stopped in during the Reno Leprechaun Crawl and just had a drink and was amazed that such a place exists on the river. I am for sure going back to try their food next time. It's hard to find the entrance but one you do, you'll be happy you persisted. It's a new hidden gem for me, personally. This place was amazing! Such great and friendly service. We actually started out wild River across the way, which has a super limited menu with options we did not prefer, so I'm so glad that we decided to leave and come here. Their happy hour menu was absolutely phenomenal, we ended up getting the firecracker shrimp and the buffalo wings and everything was so good, but a huge shout out to the shrimp, because they were just sooo amazing, the flavor was impressive. Went for Sunday lunch. Super unclear to wait to be seated or to sit wherever. Food was pretty good, partner got tacos and I got the chicken sandwich. Very messy, needed lots of napkins. The weird part was the atmosphere. The staff made us a little uncomfortable. There was a spill that happened at the table next to us when we got there and was still was not cleaned up until we left. It was just weird. Also, we just got up to pay because it was taking a while for someone to come and give us the check and the area with the register is right by the bar door where they serve drinks and the tables were in such a way that there was nowhere for me to stand. I think that the concept and the layout needs to be thought out better. The experience felt unfinished and unclear. What do you want your customer to experience? When I think of the spot, I think of a local place that people feel welcomed and want to be a regular at and I didn't feel welcomed or important and I think they need to have clearer goals of what feelings they want the customer to walk out with. read more

Came on a Saturday 2pm party of 5 place was maybe 40% occupied. Took a while to get drinks and even longer to get our food. Chips and salsa was a joke 12 chips on a plate, 2 waiters were switching back and forth to trying to accomodate and serve us. Bartender blonde female witch come to our table to refill drinks on two of us and when I asked if could get another modello and my wife another ice tea she snapped at me and shouted she was busy. I have patronized this place several times and the food was usually good but not tonight. I have been overcharged every time. The price on the menu is less than what is on the bill. I'm not going to make a scene with the server so I just pay it. I decided to give them another chance tonight, overcharged again. The mahi mahi tacos were very good- the service is horrible!!! I had to ask (she didn't offer) to wipe the table of crumbs, left over chips etc. When I got the tacos with guacamole in a cup, I didn't get any silverware - the guacamole doesn't just come out of the cup, I needed at least a knife. I was sitting outside and it took FOREVER to get service, when I walked in the door to pick up my own silverware, no one was around. Bomb Food! Husband and I popped in for lunch and cocktails. We each tried two different cocktails-and all four were fantastic. I had the watermelon Red Bull Margarita and the Spot cucumber ranch water. He had a mezcal concoction and a spin on a Negroni. If you are from Reno, you know this is a service town. Well the service at The Spot is terrible. Only the bus boy was friendly and attentive. My salmon was raw on the inside. The snarky rude waiter said, "Just so you know, we use premium grade salmon, so you can eat it raw." Yeah, I didn't go out for sushi. He was so rude. Ruined my lunch with my son. Nobody checked on us the entire time once the food finally arrived (also it wasn't busy). As someone who has waited tables in multiple restaurants in reno, I was disappointed. Very lame. I was the first to try the broccoli cheddar soup. Holy cow is this a game changer. I love soup again. It's like orgasmically good. This is so fire that they should be worried about setting the city ablaze. The grilled cheese was pretty good 2. Nothing better than grilled cheese and soup. This place was bought in July from Smee but hasn't changed that much. They'll want to change their printed sign out front (doesn't make it look like a permanent downtown establishment). The inside looks the same. They kept the same chef as what Smee had but changed the fish batter recipe. I had the beef bulgogi sandwich and it was beyond disappointing. Came here on Father's Day. I expected restaurants to be busy but I also expected to have decent service. We had multiple different waiters and noticed the same thing at other tables. With that anytime we asked for something we didn't get it until it wasn't needed anymore. Even something as simple as our drink order which we didn't get until our food came out. The shrimp tacos were good but the other people at my table didn't have the same experience. The salmon was undercooked and salad came with no dressing. And when we asked for dressing it came out about the same time as the check. If you want to come sit and and enjoy the river maybe try one of the other restaurants unless you want to leave mad and still hungry read more

I should've trusted my gut and walked out. If you're considering eating at The Spot, let me save you some time: keep walking. This place is where good service goes to die... and where bad cocktails are born. We were seated and then promptly forgotten. Water finally arrived... with gnats swimming in the glass. We flagged someone down just to place our order like we were asking for a favor, not paying customers. The cocktails took 20+ minutes to arrive and woefully underperformed. I know this was not only our experience as I saw other customers whose faces looked like they were drinking acetone. As for the burger? Completely flavorless. I've had more excitement from a plain rice cake. No one checked on us--no "How's everything?" or even a glance in our direction. We had to walk inside and ask for a check since we hadn't seen staff on the patio look our way. There was absolutely no urgency. No sense of service. The waitress we had seemed dazed and annoyed to be there. We wasted two full hours here. I wish we had trusted our instincts and left while we were still just mildly annoyed. The only reason it's getting 2 stars was food was decent and being on the river. The individual bussing tables was the only one who seemed attentive to customers, and the only one that seemed to not be under the influence of something. Once we picked a table to sit at, it took over 20 minutes to even get service, and that was because we asked for it. Food got delivered, and drinks about 30 minutes after we ordered and were never checked on again. And it was hard to even get someone's attention to ask for another drink, refill, etc. We then had to track someone down for our check. Was super hopeful for a new river go to spot, but won't be returning. I'm hoping it was just a bad day for the business based on the other good reviews but won't be returning. read more
