They just opened next to my building at work and everyone in my office is always ordering from The Spotted Gallo! its honestly the best nicaraguan eatery in the area! Im SOOO excited for them to open! i have ordered many things already, for their lunch: The pollo ala plancha is delicious, i always like their gallo pinto rice, maduros, and platano herbido. it comes with a side salad or a coleslaw salad. I always make sure to ask for chimichurri on the side as it goes on everything! and lets not talk about that delicious spicy-ish relish they put on the side of your meals. Im a huge fan. love the decor, its a family operated business and you can honestly tell from the small details. This place has been on my radar for a little while as a nicer Nicaraguan restaurant so decided to try their lunch specials with my boyfriend. I love the interior of the restaurant and you can tell that everything is new, cleaned well. The board out front listed their lunch specials but when we went inside the friendly server seemed surprised we were asking about them which was slightly uncomfortable. I also noticed two different customers walk in (probably due to the board outside) then walk out when looking over the prices on the menu. All in all we decided to order in which I went for the Carne Asada $11.50 and my boyfriend went with the Cerdo Encebollado $10.00. Upon the server's recommendation we also got a slice of the queso frito to share. My carne asada was delicious and cooked perfectly but it was my sides that failed for me....my gallo pinto literally had no flavor and my yuca was severely undercooked so it was inedible. My boyfriend's pork dish was stunning with complex smoky flavors to the point that I wish I had ordered that instead. His gallo pinto was also tasteless though his plantain chip side was tasty and you could tell fresh. The Queso Frito ended up being the best one I've ever had, perfectly blistered, makes me think they double fry it in a deep fryer which was so scrumptious. The meal had too many hit and misses which makes me feel I won't return for another couple months in hopes that they are just ironing out issues as a new business. read more

Im totally biased because I really enjoy Nicaraguen food! A lot of nica places are little shacks that have BOMB food but not really a place you go to chill and absorb inviting energies at, you know what i mean?? But this place is: 1)new 2)welcoming and inviting 3)cozy 4)has some BOMBBBBBBB food! I got the platter! Don't exactly remember the name but it was $25 for all that food where i was able to share with another person and be sooo incredibly full that we were in pain! I would definitely recommend coming here for some good Nicaraguan food. This was my first time having Nicaraguan food and I was not disappointed. I had an overall great experience. The restaurant is not big but it is nice and clean. For appetizer, we ordered the popular "spotted tostones" and it was delicious. It takes about 15 min for the dish to be made so you do want to order it ahead of time. We got it with steak and it came with 5 topped tostones. It was definitely filling. For drinks I got the homemade sangria and it was very good. It had a hint of cinnamon which I don't mind especially since it's fall time. My boyfriend got the local "Oktoberfest" craft beer and it was 2 for 1, so that was great. He enjoyed the beers. For our main dishes, I got the carne asada with red beans and rice and maduros (very good) and my boyfriend got the milanesa de carne with red beans and rice and fries (delicious, fries were so fresh, hot, and crispy). We also got an extra side of queso frito and it was amazing. Both meals came with coleslaw which is a vinegar based coleslaw. I enjoyed it. The service was great the moment we got inside. Our server was very nice and friendly. The food came out fast. Everything was hot and fresh. Their portion size was huge. Everything was very good, no complaint. This place offers everything I love about Nicaraguan food in a nice and casual sit down environment. My gf and I came here for lunch and our experience was great. We began with some some fried cheese with sweet plantains and come slaw. I had never seen it presented this way, but it tasted as good as I expected. Then I order the traditional charbroiled steak with rice & beans and plantain chips. This was the start of the show for me, the meat was very flavorful, and the side were fresh. The combination of flavors worked very well. My gf had the bacon wrapped filet mignon with jalapeño sauce. I had never had this before, but I was delicious. The service was also very nice. The best sit down nica restaurant in the area. Food is always delicious and consistent, my husband is Nicaraguan and it's his fave too so that says a lot! My fave dishes are the puntas in salsa jalapeño (beef tips in a creamy jalapeño sauce) or cerdo lomo encebollado (pork with sautéed onions.) I find it hard to branch out and try more of the menu because those dishes are just too good and it's what I crave when I'm gonna go. Also, the servers here are so kind and always have the best customer service. Never seen them get flustered even once, even if the place is swamped. Seems like it's family owned as well. Decided to try this place out and I was not disappointed. Fast service, great food, ice cold beer. What more could you want? My steak and chicken were cooked perfectly with the right amount of seasoning. The Gallo pinto was a little on the dry side but not overbearing and still super tasteful. I have sympathy for small family businesses that are just starting up so I don't want to crush these guys. But here's our evening... We arrived at 7pm. Didn't get seen by a waiter for 15 minutes. Got our appetizers (tostones with chicken and beef which were very good), waiter took our order at 7.45pm, and we were served dinner at 9pm. This place is badly understaffed to handle a busy dinner crowd. They may not have been prepared for it on a Wednesday night but I'm sorry that is not a good excuse for such poor service. To top it off when they brought us the check they asked for it back because they forgot to include the appetizers....so rather than perhaps offering a token gesture to make up for the piss poor service, they add to the tab! This is not how to leave a positive impression on a new customer and I will certainly not be back. This is a 1 star review that's getting bumped to 2 stars because the food was very good and I cannot in good conscience give an "F" grade to a restaurant that cooks well. read more

The food is good, but their customer service needs work. Been going for years and today had an issue where I ordered four plates amounting to $90 take out. With the meal we get to choose two sides. We asked for double Moro for all the plates. When we get home, to our disappointment there is only one serving of rice. So we call in to let them know that we're missing 4 sides of rice and beans. They proceed to explain to us that when they say double rice it doesn't mean double rice, but instead just a little bit more. I'm like "what?". He tells me that I am welcome to drive back there but that I would need a to bring the entire order so that can gauge if it has "a little bit more" or not. I'm flabbergasted. It's rice and beans. I'm like you're really going to lose a long term customer over rice? If you say double rice, then double rice is expected. It is your responsibility as a restaurant to be clear with your customers. The Spotted Gallo finally opened! They've been open for about two weeks now (maybe a little longer). This is my new favorite Nicaraguan Restaurant. This is not your typical Fritanga joint! This place cooks up fresh meals to order. Chef Cesar is the best! Very nice menu full of delicious appetizers, entrees, sides and desserts! They have lunch specials every day! I had the following lunch special during my visit - carne asada with Gallo pinto, ensalada and french fries! Delicious! Everything was cooked in the kitchen by Chef Cesar. My waitress was very kind and helpful. She recommended a few dishes. You can't go wrong with the carne asada. I also ordered the tostones appetizers. They were awesome. The tostones were topped with carne asada and lots of queso frito. This restaurant is located next to Panda Express. Great place for a quick lunch with your coworkers during lunch time or if you want a nice Nicaraguan dinner you can always come in the evening. I really want to sit at the bar next time and order the $25 appetizer and drink a couple cold ones. This place was remodeled completely. Nice new bathrooms. I'm sooo happy I finally got to try this relatively new location. This is a mom and pop restaurant, and you can definitely tell by their ingredients and flavors of authentic Nicaraguan food. I sat at the bar and had excellent service. Everyone was extremely nice, and welcoming. Our bartender very kindly informed us about the lunch specials. My new go to!! They just earned a reoccurring customer for ever decided to try this place out since it was pretty new and I'm so glad I did. We ordered an appetizer but the gentleman suggested we try these tostones omg I'm so glad he made that suggestion WOW. IM OBSESSED. so fresh and so much flavor. If you're eating here try these. We ordered carne asada and it was delicious as well and salpicón. Very well made. Our server was very nice and attentive. I hope this place gets many more customers. First time - went with hubby after I have watched this establishment since day one, as I'm not one to jump on grand openings. So at first impressions, this place is quaint, clean and nice atmosphere. Music is nice, not loud and easy to listen too. I don't care for crowds - I like to experience a nice ambiance, where I can talk at a normal level and be heard and enjoy my meal. This place is just right. The meal is fabulous! Appetizers were recommended by our waiter, it was delicious, our main dish, the meat was cooked the way we asked (med/well) it was juicy - tender and HOT (very important) 'cause meat tends to cool very quickly; salad was fresh, the rice was tasty. Portions are good, they don't skimp and reasonable prices. All in all, can't wait to return- this is one to add to my go to list. Can't say that for many other places.
