Let me tell you about our five star experience at the Squibb house! This is a well-known bed-and-breakfast in Cambria. It is a historic Victorian house with an abundance of character and old world style. Each room is unique and there are charming little details everywhere you look. We felt so welcome by the lovely garden and the wide porch was calling my name. It just seemed to say "chill for a minute", which I did. The house has a very subtle sweet woody smell that adds a soothing touch to the interior atmosphere. I found it to be instantly relaxing. Our rooms were absolutely beautiful, clean, and bright. The bed was so very comfortable that I slept as though I was at my grandparents house, and feeling completely cared for. Reading the journals with the notes from past visitors was such a delight and It adds to the warmth and comfort that this house lends to those who pass through. Breakfast was way better than expected! It wasn't just coffee and a muffin. They gave us a variety of options with high quality ingredients, and the coffee was smooth and full bodied. We left satisfied, rested, and ready for our next adventure. I cannot recommend them more. read more

Where do we begin??? We booked 3 nights in the Black Barn (Hickory) and literally everything was TOP NOTCH. From the easy self check-in, to the late afternoon lounge and tea/treats, to the DELICIOUS breakfasts, to the comfort and beauty of our room -- everything was PERFECTION. The location is ideal (walkable to everything!), the grounds and gardens were intoxicating, and the Amish furniture store next door was incredible! We did NOT want to leave! We adored our private balcony off our room and every accommodation had been thought of. The only thing I'd advise is a microwave for guests in the Black Barn lounge room so we had the ability to reheat food. Perhaps there is already one in the kitchen area, but we didn't want to be rude and enter the closed door as it may have been just for staff. Oh! And the staff? INCREDIBLE!!!! Bruce and his team were inviting, helpful, and we felt as if we'd known them all for eons! We will be returning this winter to enjoy not only the main lounge fireplace but the room fireplace! This conveniently located, cute and quaint B&B made our first stay in Cambria very comfortable. The inn is conveniently located in the middle of Cambria with walking distance to many restaurants and shops. The innkeeper and staff were friendly, hospitable and provided wonderful and personal insights to local attractions. Breakfast was modest, rustic but was sufficient to start the day, I was happy fresh fruit and yogurt were provided instead of just granola. We also enjoyed resting in the common areas and the balcony outside our room after a long day. I will definitely recommend Squibb Houses to anyone who wants to experience staying in a historical part of Coastal California. The room is heated by an electric fireplace and you will be toasty. We were in the cherry room which was in the black barn very quite We enjoyed the fireplace in the living room which always had hot tea available.along with some cookies. BYOB a bottle of wine and enjoy in the public area. Morning was a large breakfast with multiple juices, granola oatmeal, and a few hot entries. You had your choice of blueberries, strawberries, tangerines to name a few. If you want to have toast I am not sure how many different types of bread they had but you had a available toaster for them for the morning we were there they had bacon a burrito, vegetarian eggs, and a lemon blueberry bread. read more

This was our second time staying at the Squibb Houses. We stayed in the Black Barn, Maple Room. My husband and I absolutely loved it! It's a cozy, welcoming, beautiful BnB in charming Cambria. It's in the middle of the downtown so you can walk to everything. The garden surrounding it is gorgeous and ethereal. Tiffany, the hostess, is a gem! She is warm, friendly, and helpful. Also a great cook! The breakfast spread is delectable. In the evening, there are cookies and tea available in the lobby area with a warm fireplace and big windows to view the beautiful garden through. Absolutely loved staying here! Check in and out was swift as it's just self service. I stayed here for my 4 year anniversary in the Parlor Room and enjoyed every minute of it. The garden out front was lovely and any staff we approached were friendly. They have lots of options for breakfast and will leave afternoon treats! Water is available in the kitchenette at all times too. I also enjoyed the amish furniture (sold next door). Remember to bring earplugs too as the walls are thin and you can hear every creek and passerby. Looking to stay here again in the future! read more

My wife and i are really enjoying ourselves at the Black Barn, a newly appointed Bed and Breakfast house next to the Squibb House which is owned and operated by the same owner. The Squibb Houses have the Squibb House, the Black Barn, and an Amish Shop adjacent to one another. So clean, peaceful, and simple. We had a wonderful time here!! The breakfast and coffee was so good and Bruce, the owner, joined us and the other guests too for breakfast each morning. The wood that you find all around the barn from the ceiling to the floor is from the owner's great grandfather's barn built in the 1870's in Pennsylvania. It is quite stunning to think of the history and the labor involved to accomplish this feat. And, if that's not enough, the long table in the Black Barn where we stayed is a gorgeous, repurposed carpenter's work bench from this actual property also from the late 1800's! When you stay here, you will find yourself in a peaceful, unique, and clean atmosphere with a friendly and attentive owner and staff. we loved this place, the garden room was perfect, I chose it for the back porch which we used to relax from the day. the bed was super comfortable as were the pillows, loved the electric fireplace in the room. Our room also had a claw foot tub which is esthetically beautiful but requires you to be super careful getting in and out if you have mobility issues. it is connected to the common room but quite time is 10pm so guests should be aware of others. the breakfast was great, simple but plentiful, coffee, juice, tea, your choice of bread options with various jams, yogurt and fruit as well as eggs, sausage or bacon. we had the yellow house all to ourselves on the second night and Tiffany called to ask if we would like something special for breakfast as we were the only guest she was cooking for. the location is perfect, you can walk up and down the street for quaint shopping and dinning. it was perfect if you are planning to go to the christmas market, the shuttle pickup and drop off is right next door. we will definitely come again. read more

Squibb House is centrally located in Cambria. We were fortunate to stay in the Oak Room in the Black Barn, and we loved it. There is a beautiful rustic and serene aesthetic that characterizes the Black Barn, and our stay was nothing short of enchanting. My daughter alighted on the fact that prior guests had left notes and letters under a loose floorboard and in the wall, and she read them with wonderment and delight. We stopped in last year and our friends wanted to check it out also. My friend just loved the hand made rocking chairs especially one that just stood out. I can't recall the name of the hardwood, but these bent hardwood Amish rocking chairs are just beautiful. The craftsmanship is incredible and well worth the price for a swivel chair for $595.00. Bruce the owner took us next door to the B&B and gave us a tour of the old B&B built in 1877 and the newer B&B which is adjacent. He told us the history of his great grandfathers barn in PA which he had deconstructed and had the wood milled and trucked out here to use in the newer B&B. Have never felt as welcome to an establishment as we did here, owner/host spent the morning setting with everyone at the amazing table in the "barn" great conversation, they have a way of making all feel comfortable. Their clintele are from all around the globe and was very cool talking with them as well. The only thing I was disappointed with was they didn't clean/straighten up the room between day's. If you choose to stay the biggest problem is you won't want to leave. read more

Squibb House is a set of three buildings, one being a house that the Squibb family once owned (pharmaceutical products) another being a store selling Amish-made home items and a third called The Barn, being recently built specifically for guest stays. My wife and I were there for a wedding and reception both taking place on the grounds of this wonderful property. The owners were constantly on site as well as their support staff and together they created a most wonderful experience for about 75 people. Both breakfasts and dinners were way above par as well as the atmosphere and professionalism. I highly recommend this place for whatever occasion you might have and found the small town that it is located in a refreshing break from big town traffic and noise. read more

The location was perfectly centered in the middle of town and within walking distance to everything. We love the breakfast each morning and encourage us for seconds. Our room was located at the Blackbarn upstairs called Hickory..it was quite, romantic and spacious. We had our own fireplace, private bath, and balcony. My favorite spot is the large window seating were I can nap and read. We kept the windows open with the fire going as we slept. It feels like you are on top of a tree house. The Squibb Houses are 2 beautiful bed and breakfasts on one property. The original Squibb House b&b is a gorgeous pre-Victorian house with 5 rooms, the other b&b on property is the Black Barn B&B which is where we stayed. We were completely blown away by the craftsmanship of this amazing structure. The owner Bruce brought the wood from his grandfather's Pennsylvanian barn to California and reassembled it into a luxurious rustic oasis. All furniture in the Black Barn is handmade by the Amish and imported from Pennsylvania also. Our room was perfect; very comfortable bed, a huge modern walk in shower and balcony to have wine or relax with the book. A cook on the property makes a delicious breakfast each morning and homemade bakery items, tea and wine are available in the late afternoon to evening. We felt very well taken care of and spoiled the whole time!!! If you're looking for a unique experience that's completely relaxing, private & homey this is it. We had such a wonderful experience staying in the Black Barn. The furnishings and the setting were just stunning. We were there for a wedding so we stayed for two nights. The breakfast was fantastic - we had quiche, bacon, blueberry pancakes, nested eggs - it was all delicious. The owners are on site and involved in every aspect of the business. There is love and care in every little thing they do. The wedding meal was outstanding and we had a wonderful time with the staff doing everything they could to make the day perfect for the newlyweds. As an architect I very much appreciate the care taken in the house appearance. I stayed in the barn and was initially disappointed not to stay in the old original house. My wife and I were married in the courtyard behind the Squibb House. You can't imagine a more idyllic, intimate setting for a wedding. Since that amazing weekend we have returned many times to stay at "The Black Barn," the B&B next door to the original Squibb House. Like everyone says, the owner makes everyone feel like a member of the family; each time we visit he introduces us to other guests as if we were his own children. But the space itself is what brings us back. I'm sitting in the big, open living space of The Black Barn right now, working remotely, and listening to rain fall on the enormous vaulted roof above me. It's clean and cozy and open and rustic and modern all at once. There's a tempting tray of complimentary brownies over to the left and an Amish rocking chair with a knitted blanket by the fireplace are tempting me to close my laptop and call it an early day. Charming, Historical and Delightful! Great central location, Unique and beautiful accommodations, Warm & welcoming atmosphere. We enjoyed a 2 night stay in The Oak Room. Our host Bruce made an extra effort to welcome us and introduce us to the other guests at breakfast each morning. He told us the history of the property & his labor of love restoring it. The 2nd building in which we stayed, was made up of wood reclaimed from his great grandfather's barn in Western Pennsylvania. It adds such a feeling of warmth and love to the home. I would give no stars if possible. We made our reservation on Priceline and when we arrived at the hotel we were told they would not accommodate us and they also would not refund our money because we had a child with us. No where does it say on priceline.com or their website that children are not aloud. On the contrary the Squibb House website states "family friendly " on their info page as shown to me by their front desk person. The owner refused to work with us to clear up this misunderstanding.
