Black Barn Oak Room - second floor. Incredibly comfortable & cozy.
Ania K.

A historic and cozy escape in charming Cambria. Nestled in the heart of Cambria, this bed & breakfast offers a boutique experience steeped in history and charm. The property features three distinct buildings: The Squibb House - a beautifully preserved historic inn. The Black Barn - also an inn, and a recreated version of the original barn that stood here in the late 1800s. The Shop - a treasure trove of custom, American-made furnishings crafted by Amish artisans. We've stayed in the Black Barn on three separate occasions and I've completely fallen for the Oak Room. Located on the second floor, it's spacious and serene. Features a large walk-in shower, handmade furniture, a cozy fireplace, private balcony, window seat perfect for afternoon naps or reading, and writing desk. Mornings begin with a delicious breakfast buffet, and guests have 24/7 access to a common area stocked with treats and beverages. Free WiFi and parking are included. With only ten rooms between the two buildings it's an intimate stay. Plus, it's just a three minute drive to Moonstone Beach. I'm in my 40s but spiritually about 60, ready to retire, move into a 55+ community, and spend my days exploring bed & breakfasts, lighthouses, beaches, and forests. We're always the youngest at the breakfast table and I love it. If you're drawn to slow mornings, peaceful surroundings, and old-world charm, this is it. Thank you for having us and we always look forward to coming back.

This conveniently located, cute and quaint B&B made our first stay in Cambria very comfortable. The inn is conveniently located in the middle of Cambria with walking distance to many restaurants and shops. The innkeeper and staff were friendly, hospitable and provided wonderful and personal insights to local attractions. Breakfast was modest, rustic but was sufficient to start the day, I was happy fresh fruit and yogurt were provided instead of just granola. We also enjoyed resting in the common areas and the balcony outside our room after a long day. I will definitely recommend Squibb Houses to anyone who wants to experience staying in a historical part of Coastal California. And thanks Lenn for your recommendations, we went to most of the places you recommended since we didn't really have an itinerary this trip. Appreciate all your help and historical context of Cambria.

This was our second time staying at the Squibb Houses. We stayed in the Black Barn, Maple Room. My husband and I absolutely loved it! It's a cozy, welcoming, beautiful BnB in charming Cambria. It's in the middle of the downtown so you can walk to everything. The garden surrounding it is gorgeous and ethereal. Tiffany, the hostess, is a gem! She is warm, friendly, and helpful. Also a great cook! The breakfast spread is delectable. In the evening, there are cookies and tea available in the lobby area with a warm fireplace and big windows to view the beautiful garden through. We HIGHLY recommend to anyone looking for a charming and memorable getaway that is relaxing and rejuvenating.

If you value authentic experiences in historic places the Squibb house must be on your list when you are in mid coast california. The ambiance is quiet and the rooms tasteful and decorated with historic photos or early days. The in town location means you can walk everywhere. You won't be disappointed.

The bed was a little soft, the windows need blackout curtains, and an air conditioner or ceiling fan, but the space was immaculate and welcoming. The Bed and Breakfast host meets and greets each person in a super friendly manner. The welcome snacks and breakfasts were excellent.

Absolutely loved staying here! Check in and out was swift as it's just self service. I stayed here for my 4 year anniversary in the Parlor Room and enjoyed every minute of it. The garden out front was lovely and any staff we approached were friendly. They have lots of options for breakfast and will leave afternoon treats! Water is available in the kitchenette at all times too. I also enjoyed the amish furniture (sold next door). Remember to bring earplugs too as the walls are thin and you can hear every creek and passerby. Looking to stay here again in the future!

My wife and i are really enjoying ourselves at the Black Barn, a newly appointed Bed and Breakfast house next to the Squibb House which is owned and operated by the same owner. The Squibb Houses have the Squibb House, the Black Barn, and an Amish Shop adjacent to one another. So clean, peaceful, and simple. We had a wonderful time here!! The breakfast and coffee was so good and Bruce, the owner, joined us and the other guests too for breakfast each morning. The wood that you find all around the barn from the ceiling to the floor is from the owner's great grandfather's barn built in the 1870's in Pennsylvania. It is quite stunning to think of the history and the labor involved to accomplish this feat. And, if that's not enough, the long table in the Black Barn where we stayed is a gorgeous, repurposed carpenter's work bench from this actual property also from the late 1800's! When you stay here, you will find yourself in a peaceful, unique, and clean atmosphere with a friendly and attentive owner and staff. Even the furniture is made by Amish craftsman and you can buy what you see in the shop next door. If I could give extra stars, I would!

Perfect location in downtown Cambria. Such a charming Victorian inn. We have stayed in the Gothic and Village rooms. Both were lovely.

LOVE the Aesop products in the room!!! a few downside during my stay were: the few times i went to the front desk, the "out of office" sign was up each time. i wanted to rent a bike to bike around the town, no one was around to assist. i waited about 10-15m each time. they have a fire pit that was on the entire time. i heard they provide s'more kits, but we were not provided with any. there isnt really any pet relief area on site. also, all units do not have AC, only fans. i had no service while i was there. i literally was on SOS. i actually loved it. don't worry, there is wifi avail! i would def book white water again!

For my boyfriend's birthday weekend, I decided to book J Patrick House and Inn. I was really…read moreplanning on giving this place a 5 star review but after the awful experience here on our last day, I decided to take 2 stars off. Let me start with the positives. Before our arrival we were given a code to enter the living space and our room, so it was very convenient to have such an easy check-in with no hassle. Plus was a warm welcome from Nana, the Inn's pet cat. She was really cute and friendly. The room itself was cozy and patios enough for the two of us. The room was spotless clean and loved how spacious the bathroom was, and how comfortable the bed was as well. As far as the complimentary breakfast we received. It was okay. It was a quiche, yogurt with fruit, a muffin, sausages, and orange juice, on both days. It was left by our door around 9 am the two days we were there. Now, for the negatives. Parking spaces are limited and each room doesn't have a guaranteed parking spot. They have misleading information on their website. If you come back after 8 pm, forget about finding parking there. You will need to park in Cambria Inn, their sister property, and walk up a very dark and dangerous road back up to the Inn, which is unsafe! When I let their Inn know about this parking situation, the night before, I couldn't reach anyone after 8 pm, so I was told to call Cambria Inn. The person who picked up was extremely rude, and told me to park anywhere there was parking, after I explained there were no spots available. Finally we ended up parking at the Cambria Inn. The next day, I let the J. Patrick house know about this parking situation and someone over text got super defensive and was trying to send me screenshots of there being parking, when clearly there was none when we arrived, and kept arguing with me about it, which left a really bad taste in my mouth, and in stress I ended up leaving my super expensive jacket, which I still haven't heard about from the Inn. It's unfortunate that this situation happened because I was really hoping that we would have a better ending to a special weekend! I will not be coming back here again!

We enjoyed our stay and all the front desk employees were extremely polite, helpful and accommodating. The room was very clean. The fireplace is easy to use and extremely effective. However, I would like to make a few suggestions on how to improve the experience of staying at Moonstone Landing for all your guests: First, please provide your guests with 3-ply, SOFT toilet paper. The cheap, one-ply toilet paper this hotel uses was horrible to use. If you're asking guests to pay premium prices for these rooms then at least provide them with decent toilet paper. Second, please consider investing in NEW, comfortable outdoor patio chairs with accompanying foot rests. The chairs you have now feel cheap and uncomfortable. Third, I would jazz up the "average" continental breakfast. It's the one thing hungry guests look forward to every morning and the pastries provided leave one underwhelmed and still hungry. Linn's cheese danish pastries are delicious but the other two muffins were "meh". The boiled eggs are fine. I think adding a variety of cereals would be appreciated. Maybe provide granola bars? Fourth, I know renovations are costly. But at some point you'll have to redo the stone flooring in all the bathrooms as the long cracks in the stone initially make a bad impression. Again, we enjoyed our stay and I would recommend this hotel. As a long-time patron, I'm offering my insights in the hopes you'll make the necessary changes to stay competitive and continue to draw in new guests.
