Semi decent burgers and sandwiches but undersized and overpriced. I did enjoy the French Onion Burger. The au jus ensures the burger is moist and flavorful. But that's pretty much the only item I've enjoyed after multiple visits. But for $10+ I expected something more substantial. The Onion Stack Burger was a weak attempt at a BBQ cheeseburger. Bland, dry, and unmemorable. The better half got a lettuce wrapped cheeseburger that was terribly executed. The wrap consisted of several small pieces of lettuce that failed to hold the burger together. Also, a few of the pieces were wilted and browning. Gross. They should follow In-N-Out's lead and use large pieces of fresh lettuce. The chili cheese fries were very ordinary. The fries tasted stale. There was barely any chili. And I would have much preferred shedded cheese over that awful cheese sauce. Man, I wish The Hat was closer by. Also, I hate that you have to download their app to earn rewards. Finally, a STANDout casual American restaurant in the homogeneous food landscape of Irvine. A friend and I literally stumbled on this place while walking through the restaurants in the Oak Creek Plaza. Like any good yelper, I checked out the reviews and seemed like a winner. So, we took the menu, and read every thing. We also checked out what everyone's food looked like seated inside. It's a little confusing at first not knowing what to order. The cashier did a great job answering questions to narrow our choices. I love that you can see the food being prepared. At least they won't be tempted to play with your food before they cook and serve it. They have the kitchen in full view but separated by glass, so you won't end up smelling like a barbecue pit. The food tasted so good here that I am disregarding all of the negatives about eating char-grilled or processed food like hot dogs/sausages, and red meat because they increase the likelihood of cancer. Let's not forget gout...that the very painful form of arthritis common to Pacific Islander and black men, and all men who eat too much high protein foods and drink too much beer. Well, some things, like the food here, is worth the risk. I mean a meteor could come crashing down on you tomorrow, and you would never have had the joy of eating such good food. Why is it so good? For one, the thoughtful ingredients.My Chicago Hot Dog had the same combination of ingredients like you get in the WIndy City. It has to be ALL beef hot dogs...using their own hot dogse, .better than the Vienna dogs typically used. They had the poppy seed bun with tomatoes, pickle, pepper, mustard adorning the dog.Even in the simple plain burger, they take extra steps to maximize the flavors...Charring the meat with grill marks, toasting the bread. We shared a large side of sweet potato fries (SPF). It was crispy, sweet, salty and tender. Warning, you have to be hungry if two people want to finish that large size of SPF. There were three selections of draft beer...but IMO, if there is a Pale Ale and you're having a s meat dish, you need the IPA versus the wheat beer and blonde beer that was available. But it's a personal choice. A minor complaint I have is the seating. They need more tables for two, most of the tables are for four. They have a TV to give it that neighborhood sports bar feel. You can take your sear outside on a nice day, and the staff will somehow find you and bring your food. Overall, the prices were reasonable, everything is a la cart. Excuse my French, but "UNFREAKING BELIEVABLE" is how I would describe the Stand's French Onion Soup Burger. It comes in a double parmesan crusted bun, Gruyére cheese, braised onions & crispy onion strings. All of this is served with a side of French onion soup au jus. Simply DIP, EAT, and REPEAT! My perfectly cooked medium rare burger was so juicy and tasted even better, each time I dunked it in the sweet and savory au jus with it's EXTREMELY bold flavors. I enjoyed the mouth feel of the sweet braised onions along with the crispy ones. All of this deliciousness was held together by an incredibly soft and tasty bun. At $10 for this gourmet burger one might be put off by the higher pricing as compared to some other burger joints. But I can assure you, the Stand is at a much higher standard. Ordering is done at a cashier in the front and the meal is brought out to one's table in a very timely manner. There's plenty of outdoor seating as well as tables inside. The decor is modern industrial. At a previous private event I had the opportunity to sample some steak sandwiches, an amazing ahi tuna salad, as well as an El Capitain burger (beef burger, braised short rib, pickled peppers & onions, guacamole, chimichurri). All of these items were really good as well, but for me the French onion soup burger really stands out. On this visit I also tried a vanilla custard shake ($4.75). I really enjoyed the creaminess and taste of the fresh Wisconsin custard. Burger expert extraordinaire Aaron E calls this the best burger in Irvine by a long shot! First time I've been to The Stand but it won't be the last. I've been on the quest for a good hot dog and The Stand delivered! I heard it was expensive but I thought prices were quite reasonable. I chose to get the original "stand burger." The grilled onions and stand sauce truly highlighted and embellished the tasty beef patty. I ordered a medium rare burger.. And indeed received a perfectly cooked medium rare patty.. Served on a soft roll with crispy dill pickles and shredded lettuce. I also had a bite of my boyfriends "the chimmy" burger.. Very tasty as well. However, my classic burger was still better. Sorry .. You just can't beat grilled onions on a burger. The Stand is the type of restaurant you order at the counter.. Take a number.. And then your food is brought to you. There is plenty of outdoor seating and an option to heat the outdoor area as well. Very dog friendly! Best burger joint in town? You won't get an argument from me. Steered here by burger aficionado Aaron E., I visited for lunch. When you first walk in it seems like any of the recent fast-casual burger places that have popped up but then you read the details of the menu and realize that something different is going on here. I placed my order at the counter and was pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome and perky folks working there. It's nice to see employees, even the jovial high-fiving cooks, seem as though they actually enjoy their workplace. I ordered the El Capitan burger with a small order of french fries and a chocolate milkshake. It takes a few minutes for your food to be delivered to your table as everything is cooked to order. My shake came out first as requested. It was good but obviously not The Stand's strong point - I've had better at most other burger places. But what was to come overshadowed this initial impression. The El Capitan arrived. This juicy-delicious beef burger with braised short rib, pickled peppers & onions, guacamole and chimichurri was perfection between two buns. Each ingredient's flavor shined through and was complimentary to one another. The flavor of the quality beef was impressive. The chunky guac was outstanding and the chimichurri provided a bit of heat. The fries were thick and plentiful, so many that I couldn't finish them. And that was the SMALL serving. I got the ultimate egg burger and would definitely get it again. Had fried egg, thick cut bacon, jalapeños and a nice slaw. I also ordered the fire fries which I would probably never get. I'm not a fan of the spicy sauce they lather them in. Burgers are on the expensive side comparable to island burgers and fries. I ended up going with a fairly standard Cheeseburger and it was really good - I loved the freshness of the flavor of the meat, although it could have used just a bit more salt since the flavor was just slightly missing. I ordered a Chocolate Frozen Custard and it was a little disappointing since it wasn't really "chocolate" - it was vanilla custard with chocolate syrup...I wish I had known that since I would have just ordered a vanilla custard. The Southwest Chicken Salad: Perfect amount of chicken, yummy sauce, and tasty dressing. The Onion Stack Burger: Robust flavor, juicy burger, tangy hickory sauce. Tuna Salad Sandwich: Really good consistency, great crunch on the pickles, nice sourdough bread. Chicago Dog: It's all about that celery salt! About those fries: I can't get into them. I tried the chili cheese fries and the house cheese just seems overly processed and doesn't really go well with the chili. Note: They give you a fork and knife with every item you order. I don't think that's necessary and it wastes a lot of plastic. I wish they'd just let the customers take what they need, or as they have food runners take the food out to the tables, just have them ask each table what's needed. Now there are many burger joints in OC and not all of them are worth anything but The Stand is one of the ones who stands up as a worthy contender. Came here with the family and Mother (out of all people... because she doesn't eat red meat that often) suggested that we come here for lunch one afternoon. Like many things in Irvine, this place is set in a shopping center surrounded by other Irvine type shopping center things. You have outdoor and indoor seating options and a full menu full of grub awaiting to be ordered. Nothing special as far as I'm concerned regarding the menu itself... it's standard BUT they have a lovely amount of options for everyone involved. Justine assisted us from start to finish and she was quite the doll in the customer service part of it. You can check out the pictures but we all enjoyed our food and the quality was something to love. This is where other places fall short.... QUALITY!! 06.05.2017 I ordered online because hubby wanted a burger after his dental appointment. The process was easy and I was also able to modify the burger and salad we ordered, accordingly. I bypassed the line with about 7 people in it and walked straight to the front for my online order. My confirmation said 12:10 but my food was sitting there waiting for me...at 12:00 pm. YES! Hubby thoroughly enjoyed his Stand Burger with grilled onions. The bun did not fall apart and held together the yumminess of the burger and the condiments. My Chimmy Steak Salad was delicious! The Steak was cooked well and had good flavor. My only complaint is the salad green to steak ratio....I wish there was a little bit more steak. Those salad greens compact really well and when I dug into the salad the leaves expanded. So a plus is that the serving size is decent. Just a little bit more meat and it would be perfect! This is a great spot for a high quality burger in a pretty casual setting! I got the ultimate egg burger when I was here, which was highly recommended. It was really balanced with the flavors, and the patty came out the way I asked for (medium well). Definitely one of the best burgers I've had in a long time. My only complaint would be that I wish my egg was more runny, which could probably be specified for next time.The fries were also solid! The Stand is about redefining American classics in a wonderfully chic spot in Irvine. The place is literally inside what looks like a tower, how cool is that? The building is large, with plenty of outdoor seating too so you shouldn't have too much of a problem finding a spot to sit, though you never know with Irvine crowds! I came here at 1PM on a Tuesday and there wasn't too many people, though it was right after Memorial Day so that could have played a factor. My buddy and I had a tough time choosing something to eat from their extensively delicious looking menu. I ended up getting a shortrib grilled cheese sandwich ($10) and a vanilla custard shake ($4.75). The sandwich was AMAZING, with unbelievable shortrib meat, though the bacon tomato jam they used kinda threw me off. It was overpowering and frankly did not need it at all, so next time I'll probably get it without. My friend got their 1/4 lb red hot dog ($5) which was very tasty, though I felt the dog is not as great plain, and would probably work better with some good fixings on top. The custard shake was exceptional, though it's very airy and lacking much egg flavor for custard. This did not change the fact it was delicious and quickly sucked down! I would not have ordered this if I had known onions were mixed in with the meat. And biting into it, getting half a whole chile was a rude awakening right off the bat. Such a shame when the rib meat was so flavorful. I also ordered The Stand Fries, a small Mac & Cheese and a Strawberry Shake. The fries were the perfect size and the perfect crispness. We absolutely enjoy coming to the stand since we moved to the neighborhood. It's a short walk so we find ourselves here 1-2 a week. Our whole family enjoys the outside seating area and delicious hamburgers as well as other foods like the Brussels sprouts and Mac n cheese and of course the beers on tap! We came in recently for a quick bite for lunch and received exceptional service for the entire staff but a special shout out to Emily. We came here for lunch, because we were both craving burgers. The two of us got a cheeseburger each, fire fries, and $1 mac and cheese, my boyfriend got a soda, and I got a water. I feel like for the price we were paying, we might as well have gone to Stacked and customized our burgers more. My boyfriend said that his burger was dry, though he ordered his medium rare. I ordered mine cooked medium, and it tasted fine. I feel like while they take may ask you how you want your burger cooked, they cook them all the same way. The fire fries were good, however they were literally just regular fries tossed in buffalo sauce. The $1 mac and cheese was literally all mac and barely any cheese. You are literally getting exactly what you pay for. I would not come back here because I can pay the same amount and eat better food at another place, or even make the same food at home, but make it to my liking. "Kale Chicken Sandwich" ($9.25). Instead of lettuce, its kale slaw and tastes slightly bitter, along with that it has a tangy flavor from a sauce. Between the baked buns is like having both marinated grilled chicken and a patch of salad with crispy onion rings toppings sandwiched in one. I was impressed. I've seen fellow Yelper's rave about the "French Onion Soup Burger" ($10) so I had to try this out myself. There's French onion dip sandwiches, how about French onion dip burgers? Yup, its hearty and delicious. This burger is legit. With the French onion soup it makes the experience much more flavorful, it goes really well with the beef patty and of course the crispy onion strings. "Large Chili Cheese Fries" ($6.35). For the price I hoping this would be an excellent side order. The crispy French fries were good, but the cheese sauce toppings and chili didn't cut for me in taste. I've had better. Nice place to dine-in and its freshly brand new. I did bring my son in for a lunch date and we enjoyed it. They do have a few Kids Deals on their menu.
