Let's start with... "I was at the hotel for a book Con. Enchanticon to be specific." For those of you who do not know. The Station Grille is located in the Union Station Hotel event centre. This place is huge! And there are often events going on in the main venue area. The Good - Ok, struggling here. Let's move on. The Bad - Wait time to be seated, even though they weren't busy. I'm guessing they were switching from Brunch to Lunch, so the host was taking his time. It may have also been that several members of the party were dressed super fancy (EnchantiCon). The food was lacklustre and they stopped brunch at 11 am (WHAT?!?!) The Ugly - Oh, there is just so much! The restaurant obviously didn't know that there was an event going on, much less what event. We were asked several times by our waitress alone. Took 25 minutes to get water... because no one could decide who was bringing it to the table. After food was delivered, I waited about 5 minutes, then walked over and got rolls of silverware from a basket on the brunch buffet. The three of us ordered, and none of it came out right. The most maddening thing is that the Hotel and the Union Station bar, and even the outlying restaurants, are fantastic. This needs to get some kind of an upgrade, not only in what it is as a restaurant, but how it is run. The Wrap-up - This place is getting by on its brunch and the fact that it looks like a classic/classy hotel restaurant. But don't fall for it. Staying at the Union Station Hotel, my husband and I went here for lunch ( they ate only open for breakfast and lunch). Our server, Taylor was friendly and attentive. We ordered two appetizers and a sandwich to share. The flash fried Brussel sprouts were absolutely amazing: light, crisp with roasted almond slivers. The tomato burrata was also outstanding: fresh and delicious burrata served with heirloom tomatoes, arugula, and an incredible pesto vinaigrette. My only complaint with this entire meal was that the tomatoes were cold; they should have been at room temperature. Our classic turkey club was huge: stuffed with turkey, etc. and our pick of fries which were perfectly cooked-crisp but not burnt. Unfortunately we couldn't enjoy a cocktail as we had to check out and drive soon after, but the overall ambiance was one of relaxed elegance bring in the gorgeous Union Station Hotel. A bit overpriced, but understandable with the location at the Union Station. It's right off the lobby, the structure is magnificent. The staff was very accommodating with my six year old. I was a little bummed that they didn't offer a kids menu. But they do have a pastry plate that was great for my kid. They serve Starbucks coffee. The bacon, eggs, potatoes were delicious. I would have loved a fresh tomato or something with the egg sandwich, but I appreciated the combo price with coffee. The ambiance was a bit fancy and I had to ask for a capped lid drink for my kid, but she said the place was the best ever. We enjoyed our meal. read more

One of the most disappointing restaurant visits I've had in a VERY long time! The service was HORRIBLE. We had to either send someone to find our waiter, or go find him ourselves almost every time. The food took forever to come out and it was the most outrageously priced food I've ever had. The entrees have NO sides with them. NONE! Walked in and felt like we were in for a treat. The room is classy and not at all what we expected as far as a "grille". However, the service did not match the surroundings. We had to seek out our servers. We were never sure who was our server as three different people came to our table, but in no timely manner. Ordered edamame as an appetizer and had to wait for it to be harvested, I guess. The food was good but pricey for what was presented. One of our group ordered an entree of scallops and received three scallops centered on a dinner plate for $34. No sides. Salmon was another choice but again, pricey and uninteresting in its very plain' just so' presentation. One server listened to our concerns and did what she could to right the poor service and our disappointment. Thank you to her but too little too late. DO NOT GO HERE FOR DINNER. Seriously, save yourself the frustration and money. We read the reviews, we saw they were bad. We went anyway because it was convenient. I couldn't find a recent menu online anywhere. So dinner was going to be a surprise. Surprise... the old fall menu I saw online was the current menu. We sat down and ordered the toasted ravioli and thank goodness we were able to taste that before the waitress took our order. (Yeah it was slow too and we were literally only the second table sat at 6PM on a Thursday) The toasted ravioli tasted like it had been made...sometime in the past three days and then made again for us. It was hard as a rock on the edges. The marinara wasn't good either so rather than dropping $150 on dinner that probably would have been this way, we got the check and headed for The Pitch. Breakfast buffet? Absolutely if you are looking for sufficient hotel breakfast. Fresh fruit, muffins, danish, cereal, meats, french toast and an omelet var made right in front of you. Bottom Line: Lovely interior and friendly service for breakfast. My husband and I went to The Station Grille for breakfast while staying at the hotel. To avoid having to make any decisions before coffee my husband and I both decided to get the breakfast buffet. The buffet included coffee, juice, fruit, pastries, eggs, omelets to order, pancakes, waffles and plenty of other goodies. I can't recall the price but I as thinking it was $17 and a great deal. We enjoyed our meal with the omelet and service being the highlights. I don't think I would necessarily venture to The Station Grille just for breakfast but as a hotel guest I definitely recommend it. Very beautiful location. If you seen the movie The Harvey Girls you can picture them serving food here. We had the dining room to ourselves after 6pm on Saturday night. I think our server may have been kinda new. I asked for an item to be left off my meal. She said ok and came back 10 min later telling me the chef said the item I wanted left off was already mixed in. So I switched my order. After bring out my meal and I was almost done we had to ask about my husbands meal ( salad with chicken ). It must have been sitting back in the kitchen she was back in about 2 min. My meal was excellent. Dover Sole with a mix of carrots, artichokes, potato, and tiny shrimp under the sole. Husbands Caesar Salad was dry and had to ask for more dressing. Beautiful restaurant inside of Union Station (inside the hotel). The staff was helpful and friendly and very sweet to our 5 year old. This restaurant is huge very spread out. We were actually willing to eat inside since it was very socially distanced, and not very many diners at 5pm. We choose here because it looked so pretty and the menu looked fine. The food was good too! Kids meal- buttered noodles was fine and had several side options which was nice House salad- very good Thai meatballs and noodles- vegan and delicious. We ordered a 2nd one. Service was slow, with my server spending much time gabbing with other patrons so that the club sandwich and fries I ordered arrived with cold potatoes. The sandwich was poorly constructed as well, with a glob of mustard in one corner. The food here is just okay. I think it is a little overpriced for the taste of the food. You have to get to the restraint through the bar and there are no signed saying specifically how to get here. The service during lunch is super odd. We didn't even have an actual waiter/waitress. It was some random worker who was either the host or the bartender helping us get our food. I have a general low opinion of restaurants associated with hotels but I was staying at the Union Station Hilton and I was too tired to go exploring looking for a place to eat. So I walked downstairs and ate at the Union Station Grille. I fully expected to be unhappy with my dinner but they proved me wrong! I ordered the filet and it was full of flavor and cooked perfectly. It came with smoked tomatoes which I thought would be gross but surprised me again by being amazing. The roasted potatoes were nothing special but were still good. There was a Sangiovese Demi glacé drizzled on all of this and it was perfect! My favorite part was definitely the edible dried flowers scattered over my food. I choose this business for breakfast this morning because of the good reviews but not by yelp. Mistake I will say, some of the help was very cold and others so so. My order was taken promptly and water was brought to my table. I ordered egg Benedict which had a side of breakfast potatoes. After 25 minutes of waiting for my food I asked and they said in a minute. Ten minutes later I received my food and this place was not busy at the time. It was by far the worst eggs Benedict I have ever had, since it was my first time there I should have told them how I wanted my eggs. They came hard and dried out with very little hollandaise. I wake up really hungry, and since there aren't a ton of options to walk to from the hotel I was staying in, I wound up at Station Grille. Likely because it was a quiet December mid-week, the restaurant was super empty each time I ate here. The buffet was okay, but the bulk of the food was lukewarm or cold. It made it somewhat tough to eat despite being so hungry. I went up for an English muffin but there was no toaster, and the strawberries were damn near white they were so out of season. Bah. There was a saving grace that made this $15 brunch worth it; the omelette station. They have a ton of solid ingredients to add into it and it is made fresh. Add in some delicious coffee to this brunch and it made it alright. The price tag is a bit steep for what you get here, but for an alright brunch it does in a pinch. read more

I am staying at the double tree (here for work) and decided to give this a try.. I ordered the ribeye and a glass of Pinot noir. The steak was prepared just the way I asked (med rare center with char outside) the mashed potatoes even were delicious (I am super picky about my potatoes!!) I didn't read the other reviews first so I wouldn't be influenced by what they said. Am here for supper the night before a marketing conference. One drawback due to not being busy on a Tuesday night was that nobody was manning the hostess station. At first I wondered if they were open. They were. After being seated the wait staff was friendly and personable. They asked my last name and used it throughout the meal. I asked the server Armin what he suggested. And I went with the ribeye which also had mashed potatoes and asparagus. My wife will be proud that I are my greens. The steak was prepared pretty close to my requested medium well. It was close enough that I didn't ask for any additional cooking. The amount of fat around the edges was moderate and the garlic butter (?) on the side added to the flavor. I'm a simple guy who usually asks for A-1 sauce but not tonight. The steak was flavorful and juicy. At $26 it was fairly priced for a place like this. I've had more expensive steaks that weren't as good. Also tried the local beer Schlafly ale although I'm normally a Bud Select guy. Quite good. At $5.50 the beer was a fairly generous draft by hotel standards. I will come back and hope to give it five stars then. Tonight it's four. read more

At the risk of sounding whiny, here goes: the portion was microscopic (news flash: small portions don't automatically equal high cuisine), the meat was blah (all I wanted was a decent steak, this is not rocket science), the price was high (I don't mind paying for a good steak, but, what exactly was this?), they didn't give me a steak knife, the plate was made of stone or something - very irritating, especially when cutting with a butter knife, the carrots were made of wood (ok, maybe not actual wood, but in the absence of evidence to the contrary, this is the most reasonable conclusion). My boss ordered the ravioli, which he liked... but there was 4 of them. You shouldn't have to order apps at the bar after dinner because you are still starving. Big fail. I'm staying at the hotel, so I've eaten here three times. I had dinner first, and ordered the falafel flatbread sandwich. I totally loved it. The falafel was some of the best I've had because it wasn't hard and crunchy like it gets when it's over cooked. The other two experiences were breakfast. I got an omelette one day made with egg whites, spinach, tomato, and mozzarella. The next day I got the fruit parfait and 2 eggs. All good! Word of warning: ordering a la cart is stupidly expensive. Went on a walk for my lunch break and ended up stopping by union station on a whim to see what was still there. They are adding an aquarium, so I can't wait to see the whole union station complex reimagined. I love the great hall of the station that is now a hotel. They didn't have lunch service in the hall so I took lunch at the grille. Only 1 or two other tables were filled for lunch, but I'm guessing this is more of a dinner place. However, I will say I really liked the complimentary chips they brought me while I waited for my meal. And the Nashville hot chicken sandwich was pretty tasty. There was some slaw already on it that tasted really good, but I also dipped some bites in the house ranch sauce. Seasoned fries were well cooked. All in all I thought this place had a good product. And I didn't think it was that expensive.... especially when comparing it to the lunch food trucks outside. There comes a time where every man must look up from his kale salad with chicken and call a foul. I ordered a kale salad with chicken for a total of $17. 9 for the salad, 8 for the chicken. Someone must have been having a laugh cause what I got contained very little of either. The kale salad had lettuce in it, thus disqualifying it from the title of a kale salad. It's like ordering sweet potato fries and getting them mixed with normal ones. Kale salad implies I don't want normal salad. I want a KALE salad. However normal salad is what I got, albeit one with 3 snips of what appeared to be a kale leaf in it. Moving on to the chicken. It was really relaxed on account of it being rested all night. Served luke warm, over cooked, and drier than dry, the chicken was lumped in a way that made it look like wrecked train carriages strewn across a railroad track. As I write this I am wondering whether it is attacking and infecting my innards. Together combined, the two were served in a small bowl which said "pleased to be your snack" more than it did "I'm your $17 dinner entree". Picture for reference - fork for sizing. The dressing was served just how Caesar salad is meant to be served - thick, gooey, and laced heavily with mayonnaise. Likely flung across the kitchen by the chef in a close game of culinary basketball, it was splattered in heaping gobs across the lettuce that should not have been there in the first place. The croutons were hiding at the bottom of the bowl, leading me to wonder whether this salad had managed to invert its own gravity or just that the croutons themselves were keeping a distance out of embarrassment.
