Since it's a mile and a half from the Kia Center, my family and I chose to have a casual dinner here before the Andrea Bocelli concert. The ambiance is a no frills, cozy bar vibe. We had a reservation for 5:45pm, but arrived early to a bustling restaurant. With the rain mere minutes from pouring down, I went to the host stand and got checked in on the off chance we could be seated early. They were able to accommodate us which was great! Our waitress met us at our table and introduced herself. Funny enough, her name is Miya! Immediately, my twin sister confirmed "Wait, did you say your name is Miya? My name is Myah! And her [points to me] name is Kyja (pronounced "Kaya")." So cool, as we rarely meet anyone who shares either of our names. Miya was very attentive and kind! She made sure we had everything we needed! To drink, I decided to get a "Stubborn Mule" signature Moscow Mule, for the experience because "when in Rome..." It was nice to see a non-alcoholic "mocktail" version as well inside their cocktail menu, which is what my sister got since she doesn't drink. We ordered several food items for our table to share. For an appetizer, we got the pretzel rolls, which comes with honey mustard as well as pepper jack fondue. This was one of the stars of the show! It usually comes with 3 rolls, but we paid extra to get a 4th roll since there were 4 of us. We also asked for extra pepper jack fondue because it was so good and had come in a smaller portioned cup. My sister and a family friend each got a bowl of the soup of the day which was "bacon potato." I think because we expected a creamy white soup with chunks of potatoes, it caught us off guard when we received an orange soup with kind of a grittiness to it. Personally, I thought it tasted really good, but it wasn't what they were expecting/hoping for. I thought the pimento grilled cheese sounded good, so I got one of those to split with my mom, along with choice of side. We chose the rosemary Parmesan fries. I didn't detect rosemary, but they definitely had Parmesan on them and wow were they tasty! One of the best items today, up there with the pretzels. The fries were perfectly hot and crispy! The grilled cheese was also very yummy, stuffed with cooked zucchini, tomatoes, peppers, and mushrooms, and the perfect slathering of pimento. We also shared two flatbreads for the table: the southwest chicken and the hot honey apple with prosciutto added. The southwest chicken was really good. I loved the smokey chipotle aioli on top that gave a nice spice kick. My favorite between the two though was the hot honey apple. All the flavors came together so nicely on it! It was a lotttttt of food that we were sorry not to be able to pack up and take home due to our concert, but we had wanted the variety of taste treats since it was our first time here! No regrets! This is my second visit to the stubborn meal and this one even talked the first time the food is amazing. The staff is friendly and informative, and the drinks are poor generously. The venue is rather small so I suggest you make reservations if you do so it's a quick and easy seating arrangement with no hassle or headache at all. They have plenty of street parking, but you may have to circle a few times to find something if you walk one block up, there is a paid parking garage. That's definitely worth it and there's no hassle and it's close enough that you can walk it with ease but if you're wearing heels, I would suggest you keep them modest. The decor is cutie. I definitely enjoyed the dinner experience during the week than the brunch that I went the first time for it on a weekend, but take that as you may I'm just not one for crowds. read more

Was in the area and decided to go in and it was still brunch time. The setting is modern, trendy, with indoor and outdoor seating, and it's in a walkable part of town near downtown/Thornton Park. Our waitress was very helpful and had great suggestions of food and drinks. Of course I tried the sticky pork belly as she told us it was very popular and I can see why. The only thing for me it was a little on the sweet side. We then had Smashed Mule Burger, Waffle Burger and an order of Sticky Pork Belly. Stopped in for brunch with a friend on a Saturday afternoon around 12:30. Made no reservation, place was full (good sign), was told there was a 20min wait or so, but we lucked out and found 2 spots at the bar! Haley was our bartender and she made delicious drinks and served us with a smile . The flavors were good - flavorful, I would have liked the potatoes to be cooked more. We had the sticky pork belly starter which was very good. For my main entree, I tried their short stop burger. One of the best, most delish versions of shrimp and grits I have ever eaten. Trying to figure out when I can head up to Orlando for a weekend just to return to The Stubborn Mule. Aside from the shrimp and grits, we ordered the edamame as an appetizer and then a shrimp caesar, cuban sandwich and a philly cheesesteak for meals. No one was disappointed when we left. Gigi was our server. She was fabulous and deserves a raise. I have Celiac Disease and cannot eat gluten. I've been to Stubborn Mule a few times before and the experience is always hit or miss. The food and service can be wildly inconsistent. I decided to give it another try for magical dining. Brandon S. was my bartender/server and he really saved the day. I ordered the short rib appetizer and it was pretty tasty. I ordered the braised ribs over grits as my entree and they initially served me old grits. They were visibly not fit for serving and that was incredibly disappointing. When the runner set my plate down I immediately informed Brandon that the entree did not look suitable for eating. He was shocked that they sent a dish like that out of the kitchen to be served. My entree was replaced immediately and it looked fantastic the second time. For desert I had the affogato. This was my first time trying affogato and it was delicious. If you prefer to eat inside I recommend making reservations. We had the smash burger with potato wedges. The burger and wedges were excellent. With only three minutes left before happy hour ended, I let my friends know I was ordering a drink while they were escorted outside to our table. The bartender nailed it--listening to my order, making my drink, and serving it in just two minutes. That has to be a Guinness World Record! My friends ended up coming inside, so I didn't have to rush through my drink. God really does answer prayers, even the small ones. After walking all over Disney, standing in line for hours, and riding 2-minute roller coasters, the food was exactly what I needed. The joy of seeing Mickey Mouse and the gang was matched by the joy I felt biting into my chicken sandwich. I would've eaten the plate too if I had some buffalo sauce left!
