For my friend's birthday, it was suggested I give her a gift certificate. With hair below her waist, I found out she a weekly customer. Until I looked up the business on Yelp, I never knew these services were available. I do have a friend with long thick hair. It would take her at least a hour to dry her hair. She used a $400 Dyson Supersonic hair dryer! They make vacuum cleaners too! I emailed the salon to inquire about the gift card. The manager, Kelcea, told me either to come in or to order online. The staff was very kind and professional, including for our flower girl who had never had her hair done up before. We arrived early and were told to wait. By the start of the appointment, no one showed up to take us in, so after 5 mins past I followed up with the receptionist who repeated that Noreen was finishing up with her previous appointment. I had to insist that she checked on Noreen, at which point the receptionist stood up, came over and chatted with a stylist who pointed at her client which was about 30% finished. If that stylist was Noreen, there wasn't a chance she would have made it in time for our appointment. After that conversation, another stylist came over and took my daughter in for shampooing - we never know whether that was actually Noreen, but I saw no point in finding out. My daughter needed a blow dry, I didn't want a useless confrontation. At the completion of the blow dry, my daughter's hair looked great and just what she wanted. But her hair got uncurled and straightened out by the seconds the moment we got out of the salon. 3.5 hours later, the hair is completely straight. In my daughter's words: it's not worth it. My favorite spot for a blow out in the area! All of the employees are so, so friendly! No matter if I'm in the mood to chat or just to relax and stay silent on my phone, they are kind and let me do my thing. My hair always turns out fabulous and lasts for days too!!! The shampoo they use smells amazing, I get complimented on it from my family and friends occasionally. The price of a blow out here is a little cheaper than the dry bar too, so that's a plus! Maddie knows my hair and has a relationship with it and me. This salon use to specialize in blow dry services but has since expanded to color and cuts. I'm a fan of Maddie because she understands ethnic, coarse hair texture and flat irons or gives me a bumped curled looked with ease. Usually, in the past, I've almost had to apologize for my texture but not with Maddie. It all depends on the look I'm going for and she follows direction well. You can purchase packages for blow dries at your first visit or pay a la carte. Maddie represents for the hair salon well because she is personable and courteous. Just had my very first blowout done here by Ashley! I made my appointment through Yelp which made things very simple. I walked in and was immediately greeted by the front desk receptionist, and she offered water, tea, or coffee. I declined, but it's awesome that they offer that to their clients! Just a few minutes later I was moved to a chair and met Ashley who introduced herself, asked what I wanted to do with my hair, and got me over to the sink to wash my hair right away. She was really gentle while washing, and also asked if I wanted to add on a scalp massage and something else I can't remember. Once I got back to the chair she asked if I was OK with products in my hair (thank you for asking first!) and applied a volumizing spray and blow dried my hair using a round brush. She pinned my curls and let them cool, all the while explaining to me what she was doing to my hair which I really appreciated. My hair was done in no time and turned out exactly how I wanted it! Soft volume with soft curls toward the bottom. I'm definitely coming here again and totally recommend Ashley for any other first timers! UPDATE: Wish I could give this place more stars! I have been looking for someone that can do my hair properly for some time. My hair was in dire need of some TLC and I'm glad I was able to find Noreen. She was not only friendly and pleasant, she was also knowledgeable as well. She knew what my hair needed and was able to mix the right products to accomplish what I wanted. Would not recommend. Simple as that. I'm a huge fan of blowouts and get about two a month. My usual stylist at Drybar was unavailable so I decided to give Blow a shot. Long story short, I wish I'd washed my hair myself. The low-lights include: checking in, on time, and being told by the receptionist that I could "sit over there," pointing to the stylists chair (forget about coffee, tea, wine or anything else - you won't even get a smile); waiting 5-7 minutes for my stylist to show up, then just saying "what do you want," without asking any pertinent details (do you have bangs, where do you part, what shampoo would you like me to use); complaining to me that she quit drybar because they didn't pay her enough (not appropriate, I'm a client, not your friend); and finally, being told, "alright, you're done," instead of saying "what do you think?" or "how do you like it?" I left my Blow stylist a 10% tip- and gave my usual stylist at Drybar a Christmas gift in December. Enter at your own risk. read more

My regular stylist is Madeline Johnson and she is so professional and accommodating. It's like getting a relaxing head massage once a week! Shannon, Melissa and Robin are also great stylists. Honestly how they treat customers here is awful. I've been here 2 times now and have had the same experience all different stylists. The people at the front desk are very nice but the actual stylists are very rude. I changed my appointment to 2 hours later and the first thing the stylist says to me is, "So you wanted to come in later huh?" in a very unpleased tone. I just said "yes I did need to come in later... is that okay??" I see all the other stylists talking to their customers and smiling but both times I just felt unpleasant and so unwelcomed the whole time. Not even a smile I got. They definitely needs some customer service training in this place, because that was enough to probably keep me from coming back here. Also, the first time I came here, I added a $15 10 minute scalp massage. Girl massaged for literally 2 minutes and called it a day. I asked to have it taken off my bill because it was terrible. Also, I came in and said I just wanted very loose waves, and I left with full ringlet curls that look nothing like loose waves. The actual hair was done very fast, which I like. First time it looked great and was what I asked for, second time, not so much. Still looks fine but it's just the opposite of what I said I wanted. read more

I went here on Friday before my boyfriend's company holiday party and the salon was buzzing. Every chair was full and as I watched each lady walk out with picture perfect hair I knew I came to the right place. I opted for the dry style $25, which I'm glad I did because my hair is already naturally straight and doesn't really need a blowout. I had my hair curled at 11AM and it held perfectly all day and night! All of the ladies working are very friendly and offer water, tea, or coffee while you get your hair done. They also have a ipad to play with. My hair was done in about 25 minutes and I got loads of compliments on it. I will be back for my next special occasion. read more

My case is uncommon, but I feel the need to speak up. I have naturally curly hair and use keratin in my hair. Those of you unfamiliar with keratin, like almost everyone that works at the BDB, it costs $300 every 6 months and takes up to 2 hours (but totally worth it). I called on a Friday morning and specifically asked if they had sulfate free shampoo because I use keratin, if not I will bring my own. The girl checked and assured me they did. When I showed up for my appointment I reiterated myself to Lieda (one of the owners) she assured me they had sulfate free shampoo for keratin friendly hair. Guess what? She used the wrong shampoo full of sulfate. I could tell right away, because the shampoo should not have had suds. I looked at the bottle and pointed it out to her, the second ingredient was "sodium sulfate" I almost cried! She apologized as if it were no big deal and said she would comp my service. Sorry, but$35 off didn't make me feel better for a $300 service! A restaurant would be cautious of someone with a food allergy, right? Going to a hair place you would expect the same service and care for your hair! I called and spoke to Ali, the other owner. She apologized and explained it was a mistake. I wanted to educate her and the staff about different hair types and products, obviously they were unaware. She offered me 2 comped hair treatments ($25 per treatment) I went in today, brought my own shampoo, they washed it then put some serum in for about 5 minutes. Then Danielle, very friendly, said that was it. Wait, no blow dry? Basically, you washed my hair and put some useless L'Oreal serum in and now I have to go home and do my own hair? That really pissed me off. I could have done that myself. I should have refused to walk out with wet hair. They carelessly used the wrong shampoo, ruined my hair, and didn't even offer to blow dry my hair. Luckily my hair stylist is only charging me half, but I have to walk around with frizzy hair for 2 more weeks. Don't get me wrong, they do an awesome job styling your hair, but if you have specially treated hair... Bring your own shampoo!!! (I'd like to add that someone just sent me a message saying "it's just hair" obviously someone who works there or knows the owner. How insulting, degrading, and unprofessional!) Aly, not true. I showed your response to my stylist and she laughed. You can wash out keratin in one wash. Especially with a shampoo with a high concentration of sulfate. You messed up hugely and did not handle it to your best, as a professional. read more

I frequent BDB often. Katie has washed and blow dried my hair 2x recently and I like her very much. My previous visits were also a success. I would like to say that Katie is very sweet, efficient, and always doing her best to please me. Five stars for her! Many times I come in, I am on my lunch so I am a bit straight to the point. Today I made an appointment for 12 noon. I arrived for my appointment and waited for Kristie at the designated station. I noticed that Kristie was finishing up a conversation so I continued to stand (mostly because I sit all day - it's nice to stand sometimes). As Kristie approached me; I opened my mouth to communicate that I was on lunch and I usually see Katie. I was going to tell her exactly what I was in for and about my gluten allergies / what products to use. However, Kristie was very authoritative and instructed me to "SIT DOWN". The gentleman styling another client's hair beside me gave me a consoling smile as though he noticed how taken aback I was. I went to explain why I was standing and I attempted to communicate with her once again - I was stopped dead in my tracks when she hit the chair with her hairbrush demanding I be seated before we proceed. Usually when interacting with lovely ladies in the beauty industry - greeting each other is rather casual and laid back; it doesn't matter if I want to sit or stand. It was the worst way to start a new relationship with a new hair stylist at this location. Of course our first impressions didn't simmer down after this. Katie washed my hair - I never had the opportunity to tell her about which shampoo I would prefer. I was a bit turned off to communicating with her - mostly because she wasn't pleasant and welcoming. I decided to just sit through my service and let her work - I really needed a wash and blow dry. Katie must be naturally heavy handed or rough with her hands. My wash was not relaxing, the water was too hot (even though I asked to make it cooler). Upon starting my blowout, she was pulling and tugging at my hair so hard. She scratched my scalp so badly that it's still stinging. She brushed up on my ears more than 5x noticing what she was doing but ignoring that it may be uncomfortable. I just could not understand. Perhaps my hair was too long for her? Perhaps she didn't want to work today? I stopped her a few minutes into my service and asked her to stop. I expressed I was not happy with the way things were going and I just wanted to leave. Her response: "WHY?" If I was, her my response would have been: "Oh I'm sorry - I'm not sure what I may have done but how can I help make it better?" Most likely I would never have made my client feel uncomfortable, awkward, and unhappy - I've never felt this way at BDB before. However, I'm positive Krisite has been with them for a while. She felt way too comfortable to be unpleasant. I went into BDB today to get a wash and blow dry - instead I left with half my hair on Kristie (because she pulled it all out). I was ready to pay the $44 or at least half. I'm not looking for a free service, just good service. Luckily, the manager Rye checked me out and didn't charge me for this horrible experience. read more

Up do was great because my stylist was experienced. I showed her some samples and she gave me input -- it's hard when you see photos since not all hair is created equal and it will not always come out with the same result, so I appreciated what she had to say. The con I have is that the updo and blow out are separate services so I had to wash my hair at home but I understand keeping services cost effective for the business so I will not gripe about that. I had a braid done that I thought was going to wrap all the way around but was actually only a partial. I was disappointed with this at first but I don't know that she would have been able to tease and curl and everything else with it how I imagined. The best part was the appointment fit within an hour, I've mentioned in other posts that I have long hair and a lot of it so this is not small feat! It stayed not only that night but I was able to modify it for the next day and that made it all the more worth $70. Things that were not so great: missed the refreshment offer? Little bit of a wait (it was Saturday), parking was not the best (location is near apartments and has street and garage parking -- this is also holiday shopping season so I may have a mixed review), but the girls were friendly and the music wasn't too loud and was a mix of pop and seasonal. read more

3.5 stars This place was very busy on a Friday mid-day. Definitely make an appointment. They seated us right away and pretty much started shortly after. A blow out costs $35 plus tip. FYI they don't take $100 bills and they don't take American Express. I asked my stylist if they have some type of picture book or brochure showing what can be done, so i can point and say "this kind of wavy hair". She didn't say yes and she didn't say no. She asked "Describe what you want.". So I did, and my hair somewhat turned out the way I wanted, but it probably would have worked out better with a visual. I should have looked up something on my phone I guess. My friend later on said they do have iPads with pictures, so ask if it's your first time in this salon. Overall, my blow out was pretty good, but nothing spectacular. I won't be rushing back here, but if I need something done for a special event I'd consider coming back but I'd look into other options as well. read more

This review is almost 3 years late... but I just got asked about this place by another bride, so I figured I should definitely write a review! I was looking for blowouts for my bridesmaids and an updo for me on my wedding day back in 2012, and BDB Studio had just opened. They were a dream come true. I had called around to other places like Dry Bar but I'm so glad we went to BDB. Seriously, people ask me what I loved about my wedding day and I can't not mention our morning at BDB! They pulled out all the stops for us and made the morning getting ready so fun. We had the whole place to ourselves and they even had champagne/mimosas, cupcakes, and little snacks for us, not to mention the space is impeccably designed! Aly and Leida were so fun, professional, and hospitable to work with. I can't recommend this place enough, especially for a special occasion like a wedding! As I asked her to fix it, she exhaled and said "you should have said you want xyz, then I would have made the curls tighter and then shake it out so it fell messy". First of all, I didn't see what the issue was on fixing it as we were ahead of schedule (10am appointment and she finished by 10:30). Second of all, her attitude stank. I used to work at a salon as well and never dared to snap at a client. We would acknowledge the miscommunication and move forward to fix it. After she finished fixing it, she asked if it was okay. First experience was okay. The hair stylist (I forgot her name) used a very small curling iron because I told her my hair doesn't hold curl very well. I hate tight curls. She also didn't bother to part my hair and style it the way I part it. I had to go home and fix that. Other than that, my hair looked good so I decided to make another appointment for the following weekend for another blow out. This time I didn't mention that my hair doesn't hold curl very well until the very end. The hair stylist the second time used a bigger curling iron and actually parted my hair the way I like it. I was way more satisfied the second time. Front desk staff are very sweet and making an appointment is extremely easy. The cost is reasonable for a blow out ($43). Good customer service. They weren't intimidated by my very long hair. I had a blow out and scheduled updo but ended up with a braid after discussing with the stylist. The side fishtail braid looked good but got fairly messy quickly. It was intentionally messy by design, but headed to the too messy side in some wind. Price was okay. It was a nice change of pace to have someone else style my hair. I'd do it again for a special occasion but will probably be a bit more vocal asking for hairspray and product if i need it to last for a while. read more

Ok, its been 10 days and my hair is still lovely. I was WRONG about having to pin curl it. I stopped after 2 or 3 days and just pulled it up at night. (Like she told me to in the first place ;o) My hair bounced and shined right up until yesterday- less bounce & shine but plenty of body, still soft, straight, and beautiful curls. Me? Curls?! Still? No way! Heat? a tiny edge work on one or two strands in the front on one side 1-2 x because of sweat was all it took. Nothing else! Loni is one talented stylist! LOVE. THIS. PLACE. The best part of any hair service is always the final styling, so to be able to come into this super chic new shop for JUST a blow out is a total treat! Especially when it's from the master of hair, Taylor Liddell! :) She can transform my messy bun into Gretchen Rossi's (yes, I just referenced my celeb hair crush from Real Housewives) voluminous curls in 30 minutes, that literally last 3 days! Unfortunately disappointed in the service I received at Blow Dry Bar. I wanted to get my hair done for a wedding that I'm in and before the ceremony even started my beachy waves were falling flat. I'd assume it was just my hair, but last week I'd gotten beachy waves at a different blow dry bar in AZ and they held through out the night and the next day. Again, I'm pretty disappointed. read more
