We found this place in a strip mall after we had hiked and it was the perfect nourishing lunch. This is a no frills, uncomplicated place that serves fresh, great sandwiches. A gentleman greeted us when we walked in and he was ready to take our order. He told us our sandwiches would be ready in 3 or 4 minutes and they were. We were one of the few that stayed to eat- most people were getting their sandwiches to go or picking up orders they had phoned in. He checked on us twice while we were there, which was very nice. I ate here last night, I love my subs! This establishment has been in business for over a year I believe I was told. WHY did I NOT find this place sooner??? I'm so mad at myself and the missed sub opportunities. I had a medium Italian Sub, I forced myself to eat the whole thing....it's HUGE!!! next visit it's going to be a small. A very nice lady took my order, cashed me out, and said give me 3 minutes! Lol. I loved it. A gentleman walked in, looked like he was with his so , and it appeared they had just come back from a delivery. I overheard the woman talking about homemade meatballs that had come out of the oven fresh that day for a customer around lunch time. I CANT WAIT to try the meatball sub next! The gentleman bagged up my order to go, cane out and handed it to me, and thanked me for my business. I got home, discovered a business card, a magnet, and two containers of pepper relish! What a treat, as I LOVE pepper relish, and didn't even think to ask if they had it. I'm not a chain restaurant person, I loved the family feel of this place, it's nice to know where your money is actually going. I wish the owners well with this establishment! This place gives Jersey Mike's nightmares because they are that good. The sandwich is loaded and delicious. They also give you a marinated pepper type sauce that is like nothing I've ever had and is a must try. I got the Italian #1 which was spot on and better than I've had in a long time. So, back home from my travels in Mesa, AZ. There is a sub sandwich in Apache Junction that I have read great reviews and have been dying to try. Today was the day! We ordered through Grubhub. My better half got the #1 Italian (ham, pepperoni, capicola, salami, and cheese). I got the meatball sub. We selected small sizes which are about 5-6in. And holy *!#% the subs are thick! The smalls filled us up. My better half loved her sandwich. The meat was fresh and flavorful. The special order (both this and that way) was completed perfectly. My meatball sub was AMAZING. They make their marinara sauce and meatballs in house! The sauce had a sweet flavor to it along with hints of what I believe was oregano and other Italian spices. The meatballs were better than any Italian restaurant in our area! Tender, flavorful with hints of spices and pepper. I ordered mine specially with no cheese... yeah I am weird but they got it right! We both found their bread, which is made by them in house, very very good!!! It wasn't dry at all. These were hands down the best subs We have had in the valley and the vest I have had in years! They remind me of the mom and pop places back in Chicago, NYC, Boston, Jersey, etc. Grubhub really pigeon holes you into selections. For instance... cheese. It forces you to pick a cheese and no cheese is not an option. Also, Subslingers offers a "This way or That way". This way, I believe has comes with lettuce, tomato, onion, oregano, and oil/vinegar. That way comes with lettuce, onion, tomato, mustard, and mayo. Grubhub makes you select one or the other. Subslingers will make the sandwich anyways you want. I just called Subslingers up after I submitted the delivery order to explain what I wanted. The gentleman was awesome! He was upbeat, friendly, and asked what I ordered so he could speed up the process even before Grubhub had contacted them!! So when you order delivery, if you want something different from Grubhub's interface, just call them up and they will be more than happy to take care of you! I can't recommend this place enough! This place is the best sub shop I've had in the entire Phoenix area since living here for 26 years. The bread, meat and cheese are clearly top quality. The subs are delicious and satisfying, even after just a quarter slice. I shared a medium with my two sons, just to check the place out, and we all were in awe. I would have had trouble eating a entire small on my own. Expect to pay a couple dollars more than anywhere else, but Subslingers is so above the others, it worth it every penny. I think the baguette type bread is a little hard for Subs and not very wide, although I understand they bake bread fresh daily and for a baguette it is good. I don't know the size in inches of the medium, or large but the small is about 6" and at $7.50, I feel a bit expensive. The reviews aren't lying when they said the bread is perfect! I had the Italian and my son had the Triple Sub. The Italian was made "this way" and the Triple Sub was made "that way." You'll understand when you order. The meat and the veggies were fresh and tasted great. They have me some delicious sweet/slightly spicy red pepper relish for my Italian. I highly recommend this with The Italian. The interior of the restaurant was pretty plain with white walls and a few logos and characters. I would definitely add some more decorations to make it look less... surgical. The gentleman behind the counter was very nice and came over to make sure we were enjoying our meal a few times. I grew up where sub sandwiches were not only "invented" but rose to an art form. Big corporate chains didn't stand a chance against some guy in a corner deli who made subs "his way" and his devotees would not accept any other way a sub would or should ever be made. Of course I have my favorite subs but I've always kept an open mind and whenever I visit a sandwich shop or deli I always order a traditional Italian sub made "their way". I've had some great ones and I've had some that are embarrassments to the whole genre. But unless the place simply isn't trying I always give them an A for effort. I do get a little irked however when they try to get away with selling an inferior, or very tiny, sub sandwich for a ridiculously expensive price. So let's talk about the new kids in town, Subslinger. They are obviously not a corporate chain nor do they look like some guy's fantasy of becoming the next Ray Kroc and franchising with 100,000 locations. They look like what they are, the sincere effort of a guy (or guys) who put a lot of thought, labor and love into opening their own store. What you see when you walk in is obviously the work of their own hands, probably working all night and day with saw and hammer in hand. I know, I've been there doing that and the results turned out to be less than "fancy". I'm glad they didn't blow hundreds of thousands of dollars on fancy furnishings, signage and advertising. They are building their business the smart way, and I would so much rather walk in and see the owner right there greeting me and hoping I'll like his place and will tell others about it. Although the "look" of the place doesn't bother me (we'll see if the influx of winter residents are so kind) I have to offer my honest opinion that they are still a little rough around the edges in what I call presentation skill. I had the small Italian sub and it did look like a child's size on the oversize paper plate. My first impression was that it was quite a bit overpriced. I was wrong. Like some of my favorite back-east sub shops they put a lot more meat than veggies in their sandwich. That sandwich that I guessed was too small was much more filling than I thought it would be, with just enough veggies. The bread (which they say they bake themselves) is different than most other sub shops in that it doesn't look like a French roll sliced in half but more like a cup that the ingredients are placed in. Take a close look at the picture I posted and you'll see what I mean. Doing it this way keeps the stuff from falling out while you're eating it. Their homemade macaroni and potato salads (I tried both) truly taste fresh and homemade. They are a little pricey but worth it and to be fair, the per-pound price is probably less than what you would pay in the supermarket for that so-called deli stuff. Yes, these guys are still feeling their way in the classic "crawl, walk, run" manner and I'm not going to nitpick the tiny details I'm giving them 5-star because I want others to give them a chance. I'll bet in a year from now (after a season of winter residents) they will have ironed out all those little nits. read more

Best submarine sandwich I have had in a long time. I used to love the Italian subs we made a Papa Gino's when I was a kid. This was as close to that as I have found anywhere.
