I just inquired last minute & for a Queen bed with mw & mini fridge it was $169.99 plus tax, etc plus a $25 dog fee per stay. It looks perfectly fine but I am going to look around a bit more to see if I can get a hote, motel at a less expensive rate. My boyfriend and I stayed at The Surfside Motel for 2 days in July. Most of the hotels/motels in the area require a minimum 2 night stay, so we picked this motel due to its proximity to the beach (1 mile) and Nordic Lodge. CONS: Overpriced. You are mostly paying for location. The shower is made for children and/or little people. I had to stick half my body out of it in order to shave. The room is tiny and the walls are paper thin. There was also no closet (they had an Kmart looking unit attached to the wall to hang up your clothes), a busted dresser, and no iron. The rooms are non-smoking. There is a porch with a table area, but you are so close to your neighbors if they happen to be out there at the same time, there is no privacy whatsoever. PROS: Great location near the beach and restaurants. Westerly, RI is not too far away. Clean. WiFi. Debbie, the office manager, is very nice and lives on site. If you are the type of person who barely stays in your room, then the cons won't really matter. Extra star rating given due to the easy check in/check out process and the location. FYI. The Surfside Motel works with The Nordic Lodge. However, you must inform them prior to booking in order to get it included with your reservation. I am not sure if there is a discount on the price of the Nordic Lodge tickets when buying them through the hotel. read more

We chose Surfside because of great reviews. So disappointed (and disgusted) Here are the issues we had during our 2 night stay: 1. Couldn't access Wi-Fi unless we walked around outside and could not maintain a good signal. Finally gave up. 2. Our room was never cleaned (2 night stay) 3. After the manager/housekeeper knew we needed our room cleaned (we went to find her in the afternoon after we got back from the beach) she never made an effort to do it. 4. We had to get our own towels and toilet paper when we ran out - if the room was cleaned she would have seen we would running very low. 5. Blood stains on bed comforter!!!!!!! 6. Filthy, stained box springs. They should at least be covered - they were gross. 7. Ants! Can't ever justify spending any money there ever again. Very unprofessional management, dirty, no cleaning services. Really disappointed - could be a great place to stay if managed better and kept cleaner. read more

I've been vacationing in Charlestown since I was in diapers, however this was my first stay at the Surfside. If you want additional reviews, pop over to trip advisor! As other reviewers said, walls are thin, showers small and my advice would be to get the suite (kitchen with counter space, small table and 2 chairs, full fridge, sink and microwave) as the room overall is bigger. The rooms were clean (however I would refrain from using the ceiling fan as it looked pretty dusty), the beds were comfortable and Debbie was great and lives on site which is a plus. It's close to the Charlestown mini mart, a couple restaurants and the beach (fair walk, but not a bad bike ride). We'll certainly be back in the future! read more

We hosted a large party this summer and our out of town guests needed a place close by to stay. The Surfside was able to offer us a block of ten rooms at $179/night, minimum of two nights. This is a good deal for the area in July and $20 off their regular price. There's not much competition in Charlestown, so these places don't have to try too hard. Starting with my guests trying to book back in January and February, they could never reach anyone! I kept getting texts from family/friends I'd given the info to "are you sure they're open?" No one answers the phone." "I left a message...no one's called me back!" Once my guests arrived, they were disappointed. The rooms are very small and while some did get a small kitchenette, as pictured on the website, some didn't though they paid the same price. My friends told me about the trickle of water in the shower that was smaller than a boat's shower! The room itself was so small that a blowup mattress, brought for a grandchild, had to block the door. One couple told me that they left some change on the dresser that was taken the day before they checked out! The only thing positive that they all agreed on was that it was clean, reasonable for the middle of July, and close to our house. read more

The overall experience with this motel was disappointing. Since this is advertised as being close to the beach ( yes but you wouldn't want to walk there ),the importance of the shower pressure and temperature consistency would be a given.....Think again because that was dismal. Management informed us that the outdoor shower was better but really at these prices I should use the outdoor shower????? Really? So much for a nice hot forceful shower after a day at the beach. The advertised " Free WI Fi " was nonexistent for Iphone and Ipad users. The management again offered a partial refund on our room charge however this was completely negated at check out time. No refund but an explanation that the motel would be purchasing a new router. That's certainly helpful! The location was great with a few nice places nearby for meals. The Surfside was TOO expensive for the lack of basic amenities. read more

Stayed at the surfside motel prior to an off-season winter fishing trip out of Snug Harbor. The room was clean and acceptably furnished, with a nice little kitchenette. It was winter, so the AC system was in heat mode. Kept the room warm, but the intake was covered in a thick layer of dust. Kind of grossed me out, thinking about breathing in that dust.... Otherwise, everything else was ok. read more

Unfortunately what could have been a pleasant stay at an old fashioned motel was instead a dismal and upsetting experience. It all had to do with really poor customer service. A small example: when we checked in and went to our room we found that there were no coat hangers available. It should have been a simple matter to remedy the situation. Instead the staff reluctantly provided us with a few coat hangers as if they were being put out and doing some great service. Much more disturbing was how we were treated at check out. While we were initially told we could check out an hour late - at 11 am on Sunday morning - the staff still came by twice at around 10 am to let us know we had to leave. The second time the woman threatened us with an extra day's charge. She was simply nasty and insulting. It was a miserable and insulting experience. The only reason that the motel rates 2 stars is that at the very least they kept it tidy. That's about the only thing positive to say about it. read more

We stayed in Room #1 for three nights in January. The heat worked well. The shower was small as others mentioned but it did the job. The room was very clean, ceiling fan included. It was a great rate compared to a hotel and it was close to our family gatherings. The TV and kitchen was nice. We enjoyed our stay and hope to be back during beach weather. Check in and check out were smooth. Everyone was nice and made sure our stay was comfortable, which it was. read more

I rented a room for some guys building my house. I explained this to the owner and thought everything was fine. The housekeeper insisted the guys take off their shoes outside the room, made them shower outside the rooms and generally made them feel like animals. I have stayed in B&B's and hotels in the past ans never once have I has a housekeeper call to complain that the guys were "leaving dirty socks all over" as if this were a tragedy, and sweared at me numerous times complaining about cleaning. In the end the housekeeper never changed the beds for them and the attitude of this woman was so intolerable I rebooked them elsewhere. If you only cater to tourists who are OCD clean you should stress this when people book. I would not recommend this place and will never have people stay there again. My guests were treated so rudely I can't imagine the type of people who are deemed acceptable and that fact that this woman called me after 5 days to yell and swear about the situation was completely uncalled for. read more

First time in Rhode island stayed here because it was close to Nordic and beach fell in love. Debbie the owner made our stay fantastic clean rooms my two Jack Russells enjoyed watching rabbits for larger dog might be tight we are coming back again next summer if I could give a 10 I would thanks Debbie read more

Clean but walls are paper thin. Ok if you can stand hearing every conversation next door, and that was in the off season. Question the fire code, would probably go up in flames pretty quickly. Options are few in the area but keep looking even if we have have to stay a little further from the beach. read more

Hate to write a poor review about a small business; but they charged our credit card for an online reservation that I did not complete, I wanted to get my wife's approval before completing my purchase. Somehow my reservation was processed without my knowledge and I never received a confirmation. If I had received a confirmation I would have cancelled it because my wife was unable to go at that time. They claim they sent me one by email but could not produce it with a date and time stamp which we requested. They offered us a credit toward a future stay but we had no intentions of going back to Block Island this year. The lesson learned here is not to start an online reservation without completing it or removing all information before leaving the site. All of our past reservations have always been confirmed by email but not this company. So we're out $384.10 and they now have a bad review. Travelers beware! read more
