AL PASTOR TACO CARNE ASADA TACO VOLCAN PASTOR

The Taco Stand is a MUST TRY if you are in SD. This is my absolute FAVORITE taco spot and I literally dream about it. I'm so sad it's so far from me. I tried the carne and el pastor tacos and the meat was so flavorful. Fresh guac, and the other added toppings elevated it so much. I tried their variety of salad and the habanero was my favorite. The volcan was also so yummy, and probably my favorite out of everything I tried there. When ordering, we did feel a bit rushed, but we understood because of how busy they were. With a line out the door going down the street, they were trying to get everyone in and out. You will also probably have trouble finding a table to sit, as it is quite right inside

    Their churros are the best.

I have never had Mexican food as delicious as Taco Stand, from the al pastor to the churros. The restaurant staff was great, led by Juan, who greeted us when we walked in. I loved the warm and casual atmosphere, my type of place. When a Mexican restaurant is super busy in a predominantly Asian market, you know it is special. I would highly recommend the Taco Stand. Look forward to coming back again.

The Taco Stand is always a great spot to grab some delicious Carne Asada fries. This location is really small, doesn't have too much inside seating, and the parking lot is horrible ( spots are too close together and it's always packed). Service was very friendly, but not so fast. When we ordered it was empty, so I was surprised how long it took for our order to be cooked. It was only an order of Carne Asada fries and it took about 20 minutes to make.

I don't know if I came on an off day or they fell off but my recent experience was very mid. The California burrito was overly salty and kinda sour, and I think there was cheese in the tortilla which was not what I expected or wanted. The carne asada taco and al pastor taco were also salty and the tortillas were very soft and mushy. Everything missed the mark which was disappointing.

I was told that The Taco Stand is a MUST while in SD, so off we went! But holy moly this location is busy. We placed our order for 12 tacos (before you judge, this was for 4 people!!), & the wait time was quoted to be 20 mins. We waited closer to 35 to receive our order. There was a bit of a mixup at the register where our order had 4 tacos more than we ordered, but thankfully we caught it in time to have it refunded. I looved all of the salsas provided here - the verde and habanero were my two faves. I also really liked the flavor of the salsa macha, but didn't dare to eat more. I ordered 1 carne asada and 2 al pastor tacos. The flavors of both were good, but the al pastor was a bit lean. I wish it had a bit more fat for flavor. The only thing I'll also note is - the tacos are a bit inconsistent. We had a friend who ordered 4 al pastor tacos with no cilantro, and she received 2 tacos with cilantro sauce but no pineapple, and 2 tacos with pineapple but no sauce. Some portions were skimpy, while others were decent. Parking lot is chaotic.

Healthy, delicious, and affordable--especially if you are like me and only order the Mahi Mahi Pescado Taco for $5.05.

We LOVE eating at the Taco Stand. They don't have good seating at this location. The first day we went, the line was out the door... we had to take our food elsewhere to eat. It is definitely worth the wait. The Al Pastor is the BEST! They also make tortillas there fresh! Carne Asada burritos and fries are also family favorites. The second time we ordered, I ended up just using Uber for pickup. I still had to wait even though the app said my order was ready. We tried to order on another day for pickup, but they were so busy that they turned that off. A must try if you are in San Diego!

The breakfast burrito was great! They have an option for a regular size and a smaller size. I got the smaller size and it was the perfect serving size for someone who can't down a huge burrito. They gave me a bag of tortilla chips and salsa on the side and it was a great addition to the meal! This spot is small but has both indoor and outdoor seating. Staff was great!

Their California burrito is definitely the most bang for your back! Super cheap for so much food. I also loooveee their pico de gallo and green sauce. The only downside of this location is the parking and the seating but the food is so good and it comes out at a normal speed. I always have a good time here!

Love taco stand for the yummiest tacos and fries!! Love the sauces they offer and the food always comes fresh. This location doesn't have the most seating but a table usually frees up by the time we get our food

Grilled fish taco, sauce on side

Came during a Friday mid afternoon and was lucky to walk up to the cash register with only one person ahead of us. That said, you could tell they were getting lots of online orders. They were buuuussssy cooking, so it still took awhile to get our order in, cooked, and ready to go. We ordered a grilled fish taco, al pastor, mushroom, and nopal taco. Everything was okay, not super oily nor overly seasoned which I appreciated, but nothing was outstanding. My fish was overcooked, and I thought their salsas and sauces made more of an impression than their tacos. Loved their chipotle salsa and their cilantro crema sauce. If you do try this place out, I'd recommend the mushroom of the ones we tried. Also don't come during a weekend or dinner rush. I can't imagine what this place looks like during those times.

Got a tip from a friend from San Diego who said this place has the best California burritos in town. Let me tell you, he wasn't lying. This place really differentiates itself with its sauce bar that offers pickled jalapeños, pickled onions, salsa, avocado salsa, and more. The salsa are always stocked, and the Northpark location is also very very solid and a little more quiet. The tortillas are fresh and they are quick to serve the orders. It definitely lived up to the hype. California burrito, 9.5/10: really good quality meat. They use big chunks of tender steak that is seasoned very well. This burrito has a cheese skirt melted into the tortillas to give it and a little bit of a texture difference. WOW. The cilantro crema and pickled onions pairs super well. It was a very generous portion. Very affordable. The fries weren't too mushy they actually had some crunch and crisp to them. The guacamole tasted fresh and wasn't overpowering. Pastor tacos, 9/10: very flavorful pastor. Seasoned very well like the Asada and had a nice smoky char to it. The bit of pineapple they put on top was a very pleasant sweetness for these tacos. My only complaint is that it was a tad bit greasy.

I always enjoy my visit to the taco stand! The staff are always welcoming and friendly. The service is quick, though it usually depends on how busy they are. Seating may be tricky at times, there's two sides that customers can sit/stand. It was my first time ordering pollo asado and I enjoyed the flavorful char it had. Al pastor is often my go-to and always a great option to get. I also recommend the al pastor burrito and carne asada fries!

Gordo's adobada can compare favorably to al pastor anywhere; however, my experience at this "Gordo" location in Gaslamp has been inconsistent compared to Chula Vista and Vegas locations, due to their higher volume. The smaller space also has less seating, which is a bummer if you are coming here on a busy comic con day. The adobada here, though, is the taco to get. Consider yourself lucky if you get a nice portion of crispy and burnt bits as they offer nice textural bites. Their sauces/salsas are also equally good, and it sets it above and beyond another taquero from Tijuana, Tacos El Franc. Don't shy away from their asada tacos either, as the meat has a nice kiss of charcoal and it's topped with a generous portion of guac. I don't love that prices have gone up to almost $5/taco; however, I'll gladly pay it if they can give me my favorite taco.

There were a couple of groups dining in and someone picking up a to-go order, but there was still plenty of seating available. The employee working the counter was friendly. They also serve alcohol, and during my visit drinks were 20% off. Options included Pacifico, Modelo, Blue Moon, hard seltzers, and a selection of canned craft beers. I ordered: * Mahi Mahi Taco: the fish tasted fresh, and I liked the crispy onions on top. There was quite a bit of sauce, which made it pretty messy to eat. While the fish was good, it felt like a very heavy taco overall. * Surf & Turf Taco: this was loaded with steak and topped with two flavorful shrimp. The shrimp had an amazing flavor, and this taco was much more enjoyable and balanced. Overall, the service was great, the prices were very reasonable, and the protein quality was excellent. My only critique is that the tacos felt a little overdone with toppings and sauces when the quality of the protein could easily stand on its own. Still, it's a solid spot for an affordable late-night bite. One thing to note: there are no restrooms available inside the restaurant.

It's no secret that San Diego has tacos in…read morespades and being so close to the border, you'd think that a quest to find the perfect taco would be as simple as rolling down to the nearest taqueria. Except, it's not quite that simple. Many beloved staples have gone downhill, while some newer spots that might boast things like a Michelin mention or multiple locations ranging from TJ to Vegas contain more hype and gristle than tender meat and substance. Enter Chula Tacos. Chula is, and always was, the type of place that makes you forget that you're not actually in Tijuana. While part of me misses their OG Market Street location, seeing them with brick-and-mortars feels hard-earned and well-deserved. This location on Palm in IB is relatively easy to access from the freeway, but parking can be tricky. You can safely assume that it will be busy and you will either have to be very lucky or be willing to find a spot on the street. Out of all the times I've been here, it's always been crowded enough that I've never been able to find a table inside, but I enjoy sitting out on the patio next to the ahumederos. The first thing that hits you walking through the door is how amazing everything smells. The queue to the cashier takes you near a window showing the kitchen where you can see the Chula Tacos team making fresh tortillas, slicing meat from the trompos, grilling up jalapenos, nopales, onions, labio, and tripa. For me, it's not so much a challenge to decide what I want, it's more a challenge to keep myself from ordering everything. My usual is four tacos: two asada, two al pastor (but I've heard that I should also try their world famous keka). The tacos though? Perfection. Every time, the asada is the juiciest and most tender I've ever eaten, the al pastor is succulent and flavorful, and no taco in front of me is long for the world. At $3.50 each, every one of them is absolutely loaded. Three would honestly fill me up, but I always want four. After getting burned by spots that ask around 75% more and deliver anywhere between 25-50% less, Chula Tacos feels like an absolute godsend of a Tijuana-style taqueria and I can't see any other contenders being my go-to. So, when I say "Tacos will fix me," what I mean nowadays is "Chula Tacos will fix me."

I am not a fan of the Gaslight District, which is why I am so mad!! I'm going to HAVE to go back to the Gaslight District!! The food was AMAZING!! I HIGHLY recommend the Potato Flautitas. It's the kind of dish I'm going to dream about, I'm salivating now just thinking about them. I also did the Pick 3 Street Tacos (and actually ordered a 4th). The Ranchero Shrimp and Grilled Veggie were top notch. The Conchinita was recommended by our waiter, and it was interesting, tasty but different. It could have used a little more pickled onion. The only one I would not recommend (shockingly, I thought it would be the easy pass) was the carne asada. It was too greasy. My husband ordered a carne asada quesadilla and said the same, it was too wet and soaked through the tortilla. But there were no many other delightful options, I would say just don't go traditional. But honestly my favorite thing on the plate was the side dish rajas con crema, seriously, that alone is going to drag me down to the Gaslight District. I'm even considering going to a Padres game just for the excuse. I'm salivating again! As for our waiter, Colin, he was fantastic. Very informative, made great suggestions and seemed genuinely pleased by our satisfaction. He was smiling the whole time, friendly and stayed very present. I highly recommend you get yourself through the door at La Puerta and sit down for a meal ASAP. (We ate the food so fast I forgot to take pictures.)
