    Birria tacos meal deal
    Audrey P.

My son and I tried the Mike's red tacos near Mission Gorge and we loved it. So. We wanted to try the new location in Mira Mesa. It didn't disappoint, the food was great. I loved the chilipole salsa (had about 4 small cups) with my chips. Lol! The birria tacos were delicious. Just the right amount of food for lunch. This new location is great and the graffiti wall art is really cool and unique.

    This is the DEAL!!

I was invited by a group of friends to go to Mike's Red Tacos last week for Birria Tacos, and it was a Tuesday, Taco Tuesday, so you get a 3rd Birria taco with the two taco plate and WOWOWOWOW!! It was so good, I brought my wife this week!! Seriously, their Birria tacos are AMAZING!!

I last visited this spot when it was Tofu House. Now I was here for my old team's monthly lunch. Nice of them to still invite the retired guy. I ordered 2 birria tacos. Tortillas were crispy and on the dry side. Birrea was tender and full of flavor. These tacos are different from the ones I've had at the Clairemont location. https://www.hungryones.com/2022/09/mikes-red-tacos/ The tacos at the Clairemont location had more meat and 2 filled me up. Also they dipped the taco shells in chili oil so there was much more flavor. I would need 3 tacos here to get full. Staff was nice and efficient.

We were excited to see this new location open closer to our home, but the service at this location didn't compare to their original location in Clairemont. The staff here seemed to be not as friendly or welcoming almost like they were forced to be there and take your order. The food however same quality as you expect. We ordered: - Mike's meal with 2 quesabirria tacos and tortilla chips. The tacos were so crunchy and filled with lots of meat. The pickled onions made the tacos so delicious. The consome, so warm and perfect for dunking the tacos. - Red quesadilla: huge quesadilla with so much meat and cheese, can easily be shared as my boyfriend could t finish it. The only bad thing about this one it gets soggy, so can't really be saved for reheating later. The salsas were fresh and perfect for dipping their tortilla chips.

Finally got to try this new location! Went on a Tuesday and got the Mikes meal which came with an extra taco for taco Tuesday! They have a self order kiosk and the service was really quick. Loved that they showed your order number on the tv screen. My favorite thing about Mikes is their sauce bar!! They are all so good. The orange sauce is my favorite! There is indoor and outdoor seating!

I've heard about Mike Tacos over the years and never had a chance to try it. Boy, am I lucky that they opened one in the neighborhood. I ordered the red quesadilla and it's amazing!! Packed full of flavor, juicy, and crunchy at the same time! I also enjoyed the mini churros and those were super yummy! There's plenty of parking in the parking lot, the restaurant is clean, and service is friendly. There's self service kiosks that you can order from, or you can order at the counter. Can't wait to come back and try other menu items!

We stopped in for an early dinner on a Sunday and glad we got there early because this place filled up quickly after we arrived. As others had noted, the parking lot is small but there is plenty of street parking around the corner. Ordered the Mike's Meal ($15) with the 2 birria tacos, tortilla chips, and consume. Also the quesadilla and another two birria tacos. We all enjoyed the food, especially the quesadillas. Really liked the extra condiments on the side such as the pickled onions, radishes, cilantro, red onions, and lime wedges. They have a nice salsa bar too. Everything was clean and service was quick.

Mike's Meal (2 birria tacos with cheese, chips, and consome), on Tuesdays you get a free birria taco with Mike's Meal (highly recommend)

I've driven past this restaurant several times, and their bright red decor really caught my eye. I also noticed that it's always crowded. I decided to finally check it out on a Taco Tuesday. I ordered the Mike's Meal online, and it contains 2 birria tacos and cheese. It also has chips and a container of consome. I love how when they package it in the box, they separate the cilantro, onions, limes, radishes, and pickled onions from the tacos, so that they don't get soggy. Also, it allows for you to control the amount of each topping that goes onto your tacos. The birria tacos with the consome were delicious, and lived up to the hype for me. A perk of ordering on Tuesdays is that you get an extra taco when you order Mike's Meal. A con of ordering online is that the wait time can be pretty inaccurate. I had to wait an additional 20 minutes beyond what was initially stated. Despite that extra wait, everything else was great about my experience at Mike's Red Tacos.

The inside was pretty crowded when I went at 10pm. It's worth the wait! The food is delicious and the perfect amount for me and my sister to share. We got the Mike's Meal and a side of beans and a side of guacamole. My dad also got the Mike's Meal. Very flavorful! I would recommend trying this place out!

This location is really nice since it's so new and the workers make sure everything is kept clean! I love their breakfast burrito and their quesadillas! A solid place to go and it's also cheap!

Not much I can say that hasn't been said already. I'm giving them 5 stars alone for the to go order packaging. They separate everything! Keeps everything warm and fresh, no mess. I really the like the veggie tacos go figure, but it's a great alternative to the birria. I've passed by this location several times and there's always a line and people waiting outside. I love this new addition to Mira Mesa food scene!

Mike's Red Tacos! I was very excited to see what the hype was all about. I knew lines would be long for Taco Tuesday so I ordered online at 6:30 pm. The online system estimated my order would be ready in 15 minutes which seemed aggressive. I arrived at 7:10 pm and despite presenting my online order confirmation was confused that I was told the order did not appear in the system at all. I was asked to come back and check in later. I finally got my tacos at 7:30 pm. It would be great if the online system could be improved to more accurately reflect wait times. The tacos were quite good and I can understand the hype! I ordered Mike's meal which is a Taco Tuesday deal that comes with 3 Birria tacos (usually you get 2). The meat was juicy the consume was delicious and I appreciated the onions and cilantro. They have 6 different salsas in varying spiciness which complemented the tacos nicely. It would be nice to have the option for some side greens to complement food. Overall it was a fun, delicious, albeit hectic experience.

Wow! Pretty darn good! Love the consume! We used to go to Tofu House (previous restaurant at this location) all the time so coming here was a little bit hard at first. BUT leaving yesterday I was very impressed. I really like the vibe, the outside patio area is beautiful and prettied-up really well. I love that there are heat lamps because yesterday was a little cloudy and windy and kind of cold outside. The tables were fun (decorated with Mike's bold logo) and the chairs were really comfortable to sit at. As you walk in there's a fun vibe with lively music playing and plenty of background chatter - you can tell people are happy and enjoying themselves. The main area in front of the order counter is roomy and inviting and you're greeted and acknowledged. The menu is clear, bright and easy to read as well. My husband and I ordered the Mike's Meal, which is the two Birria tacos, chips and consume. First of all hats off to Mike who opened this unique type of restaurant which, as far as I know, Mira Mesa has not yet been blessed with. Until now Haha. I've recently found a new love of quesa birria tacos with their wonderful broth to dip them in. My first try was up in Vista at a tiny little place. I remember feeling cravings for more even before I got up from the table! Here, Mike's tacos were delish, being crunchy and then chewy with the cheese plus dipping them in the consume elevates every flavor. The meat is so tender and rich and putting just onions and cilantro with it is all you need. Although I did try a few of the salsas that weren't too hot and they were amazing as well. OK, my only critique and personal opinion (emphasis on personal) to elevate the tacos even more: crisp up the shells with cheese on the outside and a little less in the taco itself. As I'm saying this, I'm thinking maybe you DO have it on the menu or can ask for it that way, I'm not sure. (If I missed it, I'll update my review.) Overall, a great experience - I'll definitely come back as well as tell my UCSD son and all his roommates to come try . Just be ready to walk away with orange underneath your fingernails and in your cuticles! Ha ha. But dig in and don't worry about it!

Gordo's adobada can compare favorably to al pastor anywhere; however, my experience at this "Gordo" location in Gaslamp has been inconsistent compared to Chula Vista and Vegas locations, due to their higher volume. The smaller space also has less seating, which is a bummer if you are coming here on a busy comic con day. The adobada here, though, is the taco to get. Consider yourself lucky if you get a nice portion of crispy and burnt bits as they offer nice textural bites. Their sauces/salsas are also equally good, and it sets it above and beyond another taquero from Tijuana, Tacos El Franc. Don't shy away from their asada tacos either, as the meat has a nice kiss of charcoal and it's topped with a generous portion of guac. I don't love that prices have gone up to almost $5/taco; however, I'll gladly pay it if they can give me my favorite taco.

There were a couple of groups dining in and someone picking up a to-go order, but there was still plenty of seating available. The employee working the counter was friendly. They also serve alcohol, and during my visit drinks were 20% off. Options included Pacifico, Modelo, Blue Moon, hard seltzers, and a selection of canned craft beers. I ordered: * Mahi Mahi Taco: the fish tasted fresh, and I liked the crispy onions on top. There was quite a bit of sauce, which made it pretty messy to eat. While the fish was good, it felt like a very heavy taco overall. * Surf & Turf Taco: this was loaded with steak and topped with two flavorful shrimp. The shrimp had an amazing flavor, and this taco was much more enjoyable and balanced. Overall, the service was great, the prices were very reasonable, and the protein quality was excellent. My only critique is that the tacos felt a little overdone with toppings and sauces when the quality of the protein could easily stand on its own. Still, it's a solid spot for an affordable late-night bite. One thing to note: there are no restrooms available inside the restaurant.

Sometimes, there are nights when only tacos can fix me. It's no secret that San Diego has tacos in…read morespades and being so close to the border, you'd think that a quest to find the perfect taco would be as simple as rolling down to the nearest taqueria. Except, it's not quite that simple. Many beloved staples have gone downhill, while some newer spots that might boast things like a Michelin mention or multiple locations ranging from TJ to Vegas contain more hype and gristle than tender meat and substance. Enter Chula Tacos. Chula is, and always was, the type of place that makes you forget that you're not actually in Tijuana. While part of me misses their OG Market Street location, seeing them with brick-and-mortars feels hard-earned and well-deserved. This location on Palm in IB is relatively easy to access from the freeway, but parking can be tricky. You can safely assume that it will be busy and you will either have to be very lucky or be willing to find a spot on the street. Out of all the times I've been here, it's always been crowded enough that I've never been able to find a table inside, but I enjoy sitting out on the patio next to the ahumederos. The first thing that hits you walking through the door is how amazing everything smells. The queue to the cashier takes you near a window showing the kitchen where you can see the Chula Tacos team making fresh tortillas, slicing meat from the trompos, grilling up jalapenos, nopales, onions, labio, and tripa. For me, it's not so much a challenge to decide what I want, it's more a challenge to keep myself from ordering everything. My usual is four tacos: two asada, two al pastor (but I've heard that I should also try their world famous keka). The tacos though? Perfection. Every time, the asada is the juiciest and most tender I've ever eaten, the al pastor is succulent and flavorful, and no taco in front of me is long for the world. At $3.50 each, every one of them is absolutely loaded. Three would honestly fill me up, but I always want four. After getting burned by spots that ask around 75% more and deliver anywhere between 25-50% less, Chula Tacos feels like an absolute godsend of a Tijuana-style taqueria and I can't see any other contenders being my go-to. So, when I say "Tacos will fix me," what I mean nowadays is "Chula Tacos will fix me."

I am not a fan of the Gaslight District, which is why I am so mad!! I'm going to HAVE to go back to the Gaslight District!! The food was AMAZING!! I HIGHLY recommend the Potato Flautitas. It's the kind of dish I'm going to dream about, I'm salivating now just thinking about them. I also did the Pick 3 Street Tacos (and actually ordered a 4th). The Ranchero Shrimp and Grilled Veggie were top notch. The Conchinita was recommended by our waiter, and it was interesting, tasty but different. It could have used a little more pickled onion. The only one I would not recommend (shockingly, I thought it would be the easy pass) was the carne asada. It was too greasy. My husband ordered a carne asada quesadilla and said the same, it was too wet and soaked through the tortilla. But there were no many other delightful options, I would say just don't go traditional. But honestly my favorite thing on the plate was the side dish rajas con crema, seriously, that alone is going to drag me down to the Gaslight District. I'm even considering going to a Padres game just for the excuse. I'm salivating again! As for our waiter, Colin, he was fantastic. Very informative, made great suggestions and seemed genuinely pleased by our satisfaction. He was smiling the whole time, friendly and stayed very present. I highly recommend you get yourself through the door at La Puerta and sit down for a meal ASAP. (We ate the food so fast I forgot to take pictures.)
