Checked indoor with the Host and quickly seated @ the parklet where we viewed the crowds coming and going about. I had the Panini sandwich, mini potatoes, with a nicely dressed salad and my buddy had the Salmon Terine, capers, with a side of salad also. Service was prompt was there were lots of guests; both indoors as it was noisy and outdoors. We truly enjoyed our lunches and even had to ask for takeout boxes to indulge laterwards. The leftovers were still delicious and the sourdough bread added to the umptiousness. All in all, if we were in the area again, we'd be back without any hesitation. It's been many years. Definitely pre-Yelp and likely over 35 years since I set foot in this building. When I looked at the Yelp outdoor photos, two words came to mind. Elite Cafe. An longtime post work haunt for friends and family for many years. Gone are the booths. Gone is the oyster shucking station. A couple friends brought me here for an early DOB lunch on a Wednesday. We arrived separately and early for our 1 pm reservation. My gracious hosts were already seated at a middle table to the right. They already had sparkling water at the table so I passed on any beverages besides the provided water and that. We studied the menu and they already decided on their meals. We each ordered a main while adding appetizers and something else to share. Here's what we had: Starters, shared 1. The dining room was less than half full though, with the weather being summery, several parties dined in their outdoor structure and sidewalk tables. The Tailor's Son is one of those businesses that makes the argument Yelp should allow for half a star increments in their rating system. I had a great experience here, better than four stars, but they were out of a key ingredient for one of their signature cocktails (which was still listed on the menu) ergo, couldn't be a five star experience. Indoors has a great energy and the staff is very engaging, but on a sunny day, outside is where to be. We had 4 people in our party and 3 of our dishes came out and we waited almost 25 mins for the last person's dish to come out. The workers kept passing by our table and looking over noticing that the one person's food didn't come out and didn't do anything about it. We mentioned it to 2 different servers in which both disappeared and never came back with an update. Our main server finally said he would go check and brought the dish out and it looked completely different as someone else in my party who had ordered the same thing. There was a lack of sincerity in the apology as well and was just like "oh sorry, we will check" which was disappointing considering this is a nicer restaurant and it was completely their fault. Great spot for a weekend lunch in the sun. Classic flavors and mellow atmosphere with good service. We split the risotto for brunch and got an extra side of focaccia, delicious all the way around. Good food, but disappointing service We enjoyed the Salmon tartine, and the Tagliatelle Alla Bolognese was pretty good, although it was somewhat oily and the portion felt a little small for the price. Unfortunately, the service really put a damper on the lunch. No one seemed to come by to check on us, and servers would walk past our table without checking in. I had to ask several times just to order, get a menu, and even get a spoon. The final straw was the arancini. We were told it would take about 10 minutes, which was fine, so we ordered them. We waited patiently, but when the server eventually brought the bill, I asked, "What about the arancini?" He looked surprised and realized they had simply forgotten to put the order in. I'm not sure if they were short-staffed, but the service was extremely slow and inattentive. I've been to restaurants that are considerably less expensive with much better service. At this price point, I expected more. There were some good dishes, but unfortunately the overall experience wasn't one that would have me rushing back. read more

Light and airy Italian restaurant in the Fillmore district of San Francisco with indoor and outdoor seating. What I love most about this place is the floor to ceiling glass windows/entrance that allows a lot of natural light in. We stopped in after doing some shopping as other places nearby had a wait. Pro: No reservation needed for lunch as there were plenty of seats available. Service was extremely bland with us and not attentive at all. It felt personal (as we were the only people of color in there) our waiter walked past us multiple times without checking in on us. Unsure if we were overthinking it, we watched her interaction with other tables next to us where she was more charismatic and joyful with other guests but when it came to us she made zero eye contact, couldn't suggest anything on the menu and slid our check on our table before we could tell her we'd like another cocktail. Very odd honestly and probably won't be back because of how unwelcomed we felt. Now food. We looked up photos of the lunch menu items and they didn't look extremely appealing so we went with some safe bets: bolognese and tortellini all panna (also since our waiter could not recommend a single thing when we asked). Bolognese was not bad! The beef and pork ragu had a good consistency but could have used a dash of salt. The tortellini was also decent although the chicken was a little on the dry side. The atmosphere at The Tailor's Son is lively. It's a nice place for drinks and food after work. With light from windows facing Fillmore in the old Elite Cafe space, it's a handsome setting with high ceilings, a full length bar, and a combo of cafe tables and long communal tables. We started with a classic Negroni (they have a creative Negroni menu) and a Golden Thread, a mix of blanco tequila, saffron, fennel, honey, lemon, and rose foam. The wagyu crostini arrived, and the meal stumbled when a random black hair appeared on the plate. To the server's credit, when we pointed it out, the response was quick. The dish was whisked away, replaced and comped. It was followed by a chicory salad with pear, pecans, and gorgonzola, a rich trumpet mushroom pasta and an unexpected gift: lobster pasta with lobster tail in a lobster pomodoro. It was a peace offering, in light of the earlier snafu. The quick recovery, replacing the offending dish and taking it off the bill, and then offering one of their best pastas as a gift (this is how to fix things & reboot trust!) reset the experience for us, smoothing over a dining misstep, and making for a memorable meal. read more

We wanted to like TS more but we've had better Italian food in SF. Ordered the focaccia, prosciutto and Caesar to start. All solid, the star was these puffy fried dough balls with the meat plate. Pasta was hit or miss. Veal agnolotti amazing, bolognese was too heavy on the sage and duck risotto lacked overall flavor and depth. Tiramisu was also solid. Service was delayed. My friends and I made a reservation for Easter Sunday brunch on OpenTable. Super easy to do so. We made it for 11 am and the place filled up pretty much at opening. The interior was very eye catching. We all loved the color palette and the aesthetics. INSALATA DI PERE (4/5): We ordered a salad for the table. This had chicories, pear, pecans, pomegranate, and gorgonzola. We loved the pecans. Visiting SF for the weekend and tailor's son caught my eye for place to stop by, did not disappoint at all. Kicked off with some cocktails (see pictures): delicious, not overly boozy but you still get a bit of a kick from the alcohol. Presentation is nice as well, highly recommend diving into their Negroni list. Got the Forcaccia (side olive oil with garlic, nice kick not overwhelming), burrata crostino (who doesn't like pistachios, honey, and burrata on bread?), and polenta braise (cheesy smooth goodness that mixes well with the pork and egg). The bar is beautiful, and they have a super charming wall of Italian digestifs/liquor boxes displaying their vibrant collection. seats/tables in themselves are an experience just to dine in. love it. food was very tasty. my partner and I got the Caesar salad, carbonara, and papadelle with ragu for Sunday lunch. Finally tried The Tailor's Son on Fillmore in Pac Heights and really enjoyed it. The bolognese was the standout, so good I forgot to take a photo before digging in. The zero-proof mocktails were also a highlight; I had a spicy, margarita-style drink that I'd absolutely order again. The seasonal salad was refreshing, though I didn't notice the pear slices listed on the menu. The focaccia and tapenade were solid, and we left very full by the end of dinner. Service was quick and friendly and we were able to walk in and get an indoor table on a packed Friday night thanks to their efficient table turnover. Second time there, this time for lunch. The menu on the website is not entirely accurate. Three of us shared duck paparalle, risotto di pesce, spigola alla Ligure. When I go out, I want something that I cannot easily fix myself. With these three dishes, I wished I was a dog so I could lick the plate clean. Scrumptious. Service was attentive. By San Francisco standards, very reasonably priced for the quality. Dinner will have more of a selection but it is more crowded. For dessert we had tiramasu, always good and the incredibly rich Budino. The one paying the bill wanted the Budino. I am NOT a fan of hazelnuts and was worried but these were just right. However the Budino is so rich that I would advise sharing. Even a third of it was too rich and this is someone who LOVES chocolate. The vibe here is beautiful - such a great spot for a date night or a fun dinner with girlfriends. The appetizers were super tasty and definitely the highlight of the meal. Sadly, the clam linguine was a letdown - there wasn't much seafood in it, and I even bit down on a small rock, which was pretty concerning. We were sitting near the entrance at the bar and asked if they could close one of the doors since it was getting really chilly, but it never happened, so it was a bit uncomfortable. I visited Tailor's Son on a sunny Saturday, specifically craving a good Bloody Mary. I didn't have a reservation, so I happily took a seat at the bar. The venue itself is beautiful, and the front-of-house staff was very friendly, but unfortunately, the rest of the experience fell short. As a former bar and restaurant owner myself, I always look for the positives and try to offer constructive feedback. I could tell the Bloody Mary mix was made in-house, which is great, but it was incredibly salty to the point of being undrinkable. I mentioned this to the bartender, who was new. I asked if he could add a little more tomato juice to balance it out. Instead, he offered to add water. I made a joke about adding more vodka instead, but I think he took it the wrong way and assumed I was just trying to get a free drink. I even suggested he taste the mix so they could fix it for other guests, but he didn't. After struggling to drink it, I finally asked to swap it for something else. He did oblige, which I appreciated, but the interaction felt awkward and uncomfortable, as if I was being difficult. After that, he never came back to check on me for a while until the very end. I also asked him for a brunch recommendation earlier, but he didn't know the menu. For food, I ordered the omelette. It was just okay. The side salad had browning edges, meaning the greens were old, and the toast was served completely dry without any butter offered. It is sad because I know this place has many great reviews, but my experience was highly uncomfortable and lacking in basic execution. Establishments need to understand that customer feedback isn't always a complaint--sometimes it is just constructive criticism to help them improve. Sadly, I won't be returning. read more

Service: They were friendly and attentive Note: When the waitress asked if I wanted still or sparkling water, they did NOT specify that the sparkling water was not free. We were charged $6 for the bottle. Such a bad practice to offer without specifying the price. Burrata crostini $12 (5/5): Wow, this is one of the best toasts I've ever had. The bread was toasted with olive oil, which was so flavorful. The burrata was nice and creamy topped off with sea salt. Would eat this again. Something so simple can taste so rich. Hemline spritz $14 (3.5/5): Contained green grapes, bianco vermouth, manzanilla sherry, prosecco. It was an okay spritz, it was refreshing drink. Everyone in my group was pleased by their meal. The cocktails were also unique and delicious. The show stopper was the cannolis, which were so decadent. I still dream of them. The service was pretty good, our waitress was a bit too attentive though nice; coming around every five minutes to see if we needed drinks. We were extremely disappointed with our experience. The cocktails were poorly made--unbalanced, so sour, and lacking the quality you would expect from a any restaurant. Unfortunately, the biggest issue was the food. We found both a hair and what was clearly a live insect in one of our dishes. When we brought it to the staff's attention, instead of apologizing and addressing the situation professionally, they tried to convince us that the insect was "just cilantro." We had all seen it moving its many legs, so that explanation was both unbelievable and insulting. Finding contamination in your food is bad enough. Being told to ignore what you can clearly see makes the experience even worse. A sincere apology and immediate corrective action would have gone a long way, but instead we were met with denial. Food safety and customer trust should never be treated this way. Based on this experience, we cannot recommend this restaurant and certainly won't be returning. read more

Our order was brought out incorrectly, and when we politely pointed it out, the staff simply took the plate away without any acknowledgment, apology, or attempt to address the mistake. The interaction felt cold and dismissive. Our server also seemed completely uninterested throughout the entire meal. Asking for recommendations felt like an inconvenience to him rather than part of the dining experience. There was very little engagement, warmth, or attentiveness, which created an uncomfortable atmosphere despite the restaurant's otherwise nice setting. It's unfortunate because the food and ambience had potential to make this a great experience, but the lack of basic hospitality and professionalism from the service staff left a far more lasting impression. read more

They didn't ask how we wanted it cooked but it came out perfectly with a tasty chimichurri sauce on top and some layered potatoes. The best thing we ordered had to be the Burrata Con Funghi. The mushrooms were pickled, which added a nice sourness to the burrata. I would come back for that alone. I could do without the Insalata Di Pere. I wish they noted on the menu that it contains blue cheese because it was very strong and hard to eat. Unfortunately, the worst thing on the menu was the pastas for us. Both were undercooked. I understand the idea of aldente pasta, but the pasta was definitely undercooked. We sent back the risotto because the inside of the rice was still grainy, and when it came back, some of the rice was still undercooked. The Agnolotti was pretty plain in my opinion. We were never looking to take another bite. The service was spectacular. I arrived almost an hour early to my reservation, and they seated me outside, while I waited for my table to be cleared. I first ordered Sprezzatura then switched to Leather corset on the other hands, food was kinda meh..... especially seafood salad ( which I did not take any picture of it since it looked so bad... just Arugula and cooked seafood, nothing by special at all. Not to mention Crudo was so salty even eating it with a slice of lemon. Service could have been more attentive and friendly. read more
