Very good food at a quaint location on St. John. Very small dining seating area, but a very pleasant location at Mongoose Junction. I'm a beer enthusiast and was very pleased with both their beers and food. I had a jerk chicken sandwich, which was awesome! We also had a pretzel appetizer with beer cheese which was also very good. My husband and I both opted for a flight of on-site brewed beers so we could taste a variety-all of which were delicious. The margarita pizza at happy hour was fantastic. I've had better burgers at a college dining hall, it was unseasoned and over priced. To make matters even worse the service was extremely rude and unwelcoming. A Virgin Island brewery! And some excellent brews! On a recent trip to the VI, my partner did some research and discovered the Tap Room on St. John. It's located just a few steps from the ferry terminal, in a great complex called Mongoose Junction. It's a chill spot, with a smattering of locals and tourists. Tons of windows and the high ceilings make it feel really open and airy, and the air conditioning is a welcome thing after a hot day on the beach. The main draw is definitely the beers. I am in love with their Tropical Mango Pale Ale! Seriously...we frequented the Tap Room three times on our trip because of this beer! Their Island Hoppin' IPA is also good, but again I couldn't get enough of the Mango. Great service tops it all off as an excellent place to stop by and grab a beer. And their happy hour specials between 4-7 are a great deal too. I was saddened that a return trip to St. John would be the only way to indulge in the VI brews, but elated when I found a six pack of Mango Pale Ale at my local BevMo. We were super happy to find this place! Beers and bar food at a reasonable price on St. John...score! The pretzel was so good, we ordered a few (be sure to get it with the nacho cheese!) - it pairs really nice with the Island Hoppin' IPA! Solid burgers and fries and I really liked the cajun jerk chicken sandwich! We've been to the Tap Room for beer and their great pizza. This time we ordered the "impossible burger" (vegan) It was IMPOSSIBLE alright! To eat that is! It smelled like meat, looked like meat and tasted like cardboard. Being a vegetarian why would I want a vegan burger to look like or taste like BEEF??? Not only was it barely a 1/4" thick it cost more then their all beef burger ($17 vs $14)! Disappointed they took the short cut on catering to vegetarians. And I won't even comment on the, what looked like a stepped on pickle wedge, total shriveled and unappetizing to say the least. read more

Such a great place to stop in for lunch and a drink. My husband had the tap room burger and it was delicious! He loved it so much we had to go back more than once on our week trip! This place is good enough but not much more beyond that. I think I was disappointed to hear that none of their beer is brewed on the Virgin Island! What?!?!?? They've contracted with a brewery in Maine to brew, bottle and distribute their beer around the east coast and the Caribbean in select locations. Idk. Kinda ruined it for me. The beer is a bit disappointing too honestly. Very mild all across the board and not very true to the varieties they are claiming. The IPA was not hoppy. The Belgian style ale was not anything like a Belgian style ale and I've had plenty of those in the past. The mango pale ale was the wife's favorite We had some food and I enjoyed the cheese plate. Good beer. We ordered several drinks that we never got. Also asked for toppings on our pizza which were not on it. All of this was on our bill but the servers were so inattentive that we didn't want to wait for them to sort it out. Baked Wings were really good. Pizza was just OK, kind of doughy and bland. Very uncomfortable seating to begin with . The beers are great. The Mac and cheese was the best I ever had. That is why i gave 3 stars. Don't get the steak and cheese sandwich , it was dry dry. The fish tacos were tasty but only had a small sliver of fish. Mostly cabbage and tomatoes. Pizzas was delicious. My advice is to add more fish to your tacos! Kiddo loved the pretzel appetizer and cheese sauce. Beer, very good, coconut brown a very solid brown ale with hints of coconut. Nitro stout, a nice malty, coffee forward stout, on nitro, so how can you go wrong. Service, very good. Although the power went out and we paid cash to leave rather than waiting for the connection to come back ( I would suggest you ALWAYS HAVE CASH TO COVER YOUR BILL WHEREVER YOU GO), a very minor inconvenience. Had an enjoyable evening here. The 2 guys did a great job of helping our party of 8 with special requests - we have a family member with gluten allergy. Beers, including the Root Beer are all great! Tasted 1 at the Westin, but the Double IPA is my type! Had a Blackened Mahi Mahi sandwich which was tasty. The pulled pork nachos app was modified to be gluten free with chicken but had the pulled pork on the side. Very Good! The flatbread pizza special was gluten free and very tasty. Everyone enjoyed what they had and the food came out relatively quickly. I now know the meaning of a "chill" place. Nice but low key tunes, not a big place, not loud - our 19 mo. old grandson fell asleep in his stroller. We could talk easily. They are in a temp location due to a fire earlier in the year but the temp place is cozy but not tiny. Just a good vibe. Enjoyed playing Trivial Pursuit at the tables... Great home brews. I had summer Ale and my wife had the shandy. Both were excellent. Each so us had 2 a piece. Wife always struggles finding vegetarian options but LOVED the salad with tofu. I had the Caribbean jerked chicken sandwich. Didn't have as much Caribbean flavor as I anticipated but still good. Brioche bun was amazing. Pasta salad option didn't have a lot of taste so I'd probably try the slaw or chip option as a side. Pretzels with beer cheese was fair- spicier than I anticipated but had a good beer taste. I couldn't make up my mind on what flavored beer to have and the waitress gave me 3 choices. The summer ipa was tasty but I had the mango tap and it was pretty good. My husband was delighted with the Diet Pepsi. Diet Coke is what most feature so his was a treat. We split a burger and it was pretty good - a little undercooked for our taste but still tasty. It came with chips. I had the pumpkin beer for desert (the glass was rimmed with brown sugar - yum!). Service was average - not outstanding considering they weren't that busy.
