Server was very nice and the space was very cute and cozy. Food was pretty slow to come out, which I didn't really mind but something to note as dinner probably took several hours. Starters were great - we got the charcuterie, artichoke dip, and beet salad. I got the fish as a main and unfortunately it was really overcooked and quite bland and sat on a bed of almost plain pasta. I don't mind the lack of seasoning but it was really really overcooked. Dessert was also good - got the apple cheesecake - although I thought it was maybe a little too sweet. If coming back probably would just skip the main and just get the smaller plates to share - that fish really brought down the overall rating. read more

The Tasting Room in Kauai, near Poipu Beach: This spot was excellent, has a huge wine and beer menu, with tasting options for nearly all their available beer and wine in 2oz pours, regular 5oz pours, or by the bottle. I did the Flight of the week which was a variation of reds, and a 2 oz tasting of a white [they had a Riesling made in Germany exclusively for Hawaii], and purchased a bottle to enjoy with my Sesame Sizzled Ora King Atlantic Salmon served over forbidden black rice with steamed bok choy, Napa cabbage, shijemi & shiitake mushrooms, with a ponzu butter sauce - delicious! My SO ordered the New York steak meat board, and was not disappointed. We enjoyed the cheese board to start. To finish we ordered the Hamakua Hawaiian Macadamia Nut Butter Toffee - so delectable we purchased some from the restaurant's sister store, the Wine Shop, next door. Only criticism is that the main dishes could use some more Hawaiian influenced flair - the menu seemed designed for a tourists' palette, but the food, staff, and environment made for a 5/5 experience! read more

Oh my goodness! This restaurant is amazing! The service, the ambience in old Kaloa town, but most of all the absolutely fabulous food was truly amazing. What brought me Into this establishment was seeing a picture of the Prime NY Steak served similar to carpaccio. What makes this dish mouth watering is that the Prime New York is seared which gives it a nice crust, the Ny prime is so tender that it can be cut with a fork. It's served chilled and rare with fried capers and arugula. If you're a carnivore this is a must order dish. The French onion soup is amazing. They make their own bone broth. After playing in the water all day, it's a nice hearty soup to eat. The Burrata bruschetta was superb. So tasty and good. The fish special was scallops. They were cooked perfectly. Nice crust and tender. It was served over pesto Angel hair pasta. I loved the whole dish. We were the last to order. The service at this place is exceptional. As soon as you walk in the door, there is someone greeting you sincerely and graciously. I was amazed at how little of a crew they had because they did it all. We ordered their french onion, burrata, salad, 12oz NY steak, and strawberry orange panna cotta. From their impeccable presentation and flavors, ALL of the items were so good that we ate every last bite. The restaurant was packed when we came as they just opened back up after being closed for a 2 week vacation. Kudos to the owners for giving their staff time off! We sat outside which was perfect. Inside is nice but extremely loud. We had the small charcuterie plate, the beet salad and the cheesecake. We also had wine and their wine list is phenomenal! I had a small pour of Riesling and then a Rose flight. It was a very nice night . Food was delicious and we will definitely be back. A wonderful first dinner on Kauai! We booked a reservation at the Tasting Room in advance, which I highly recommend doing because this place was full on a Thursday evening. When we arrived, we were seated in a cozy corner of their outdoor dining area. The wine list here is extensive, but the dinner menu is relatively small - mostly small plates, with only three "larger bites" options. We shared two bottles of wine between our group of five, and both were fantastic. For food, I ordered the Fresh Burrata and French Onion Soup (both off the small plates menu) and they were delicious - would absolutely eat both of these again. Another highlight for my friends was the Catch of the Day, served over pasta - loved this one! They also tried the Braised Short Ribs, but were less enthusiastic about that dish - we had two of them at our table and one was significantly more dry, and the beef could have been more flavorful. For dessert, they had two options, so we ordered one of each - don't skip these! Both the Lilikoi Panna Cotta and Toffee Chocolate were amazing, and perfect for sharing. First time for us at this spot. We've been to lots of places on Kauai and always love Koloa town restaurants but the Tasting room was a special treat. Something special about fine dinning at such an out of the way place. The menu was very creative with lots of traditional but also several non-traditional dishes. This place isn't messing around. Great patio with 2 dif types of seating - standard tables and couches. Friendly waitress with sweet tats, cute hair and friendly demeanor to set the stage. Two words: grilled bread. If a place has this, you know they're legit. We had it with the burrata and Caesar salad, and we enjoyed the plentiful croutons to dip in the very tasty artichoke dip. We got the Asian dish with fresh caught hamachi and enjoyed all their salads (they are smaller so do not plan to split). Great selection of wine (which is to be expected given their location directly next to a wine store), and they have several dif pours available, as well as a rotating flight (3x 2 oz). They also have several local (and not) beers to on the menu; I got the hibiscus saison, and it was quite tasty with a beautiful color. We loved our dinner at the tasting room! We came here for drinks and came back the next night for dinner because the menu looked so good. They have such a large selection of wines for any palate. We started with french onion soup which was delicious, it had so much flavor, next we had the burrata, it melted in your mouth and the tomotoes and capers paired with the balsamic drizzle added such a nice touch. Next we had the tasting room salad, the buttermilk dressing was delicious as well as the butter lettuce and the tomato and bacon. We ended up ordering the special which was the short rib. It was so delicious, it melted in your mouth and had so much flavor. We finished our dinner with toffee for desert which was so delicious and the perfect amount to share for two. The Tasting Room is a lovely little restaurant with an ambience that is somewhere in-between casual and formal. We arrived in the early evening at 530 pm and were fortunate enough to nab the last Catch of the Day - Hawaiian snapper (AKA Opakapaka) paired beautifully with a butter white wine pasta. While the Opakapaka - a nice, light fish with clean flavor - was the highlight of the meal, I also quite enjoyed the French Onion Soup and Pesto Mahi Mahi. The Smoked Beet Salad added some freshness to the meal but given the subtlety of the smoked flavor kind of felt like something I could have made easily at home. Overall, no surprise that the fish is what shines here. As a relatively new fish eater, I am usually sensitive to fishy tastes, but the fish here is so fresh and well-prepared that there is virtually zero fishy taste. Also really appreciated that they had an extensive wine menu with some excellent pairing recommendations. Would love to return to try a new Catch of the Day dish! read more

What's in a vacation? Is it the people you're with? The place you go? The things you do? For me and my other foodie fellows, a big part of it is the food you eat. And for the beautiful island of Kauai, a trip is just not complete without a stop in The Tasting Room. We first heard about this place by happenstance, wasting time before check-in, window shopping around the area led to a stop in an adorable little wine shop where the owner told us about a local gem next door. Boasting of its immaculate vibes, excellent wine selection, and great food, this man easily convinced us to make a reservation (and DO make a reservation as they fill up FAST!). But despite the glowing reviews, he was definitely underselling The Tasting Room. A visit to The Tasting Room is an experience just as much as your island helicopter tour or snorkeling adventure is. This adventure begins with a drink, and The Tasting Room has more than it's fair share to offer. We chose our own adventure with the wine flight which took each of us on our own globe trotting trip to places like Spain, Oregon, and France. Our server was well versed in the entire wine menu, making suggestions as requested and describing flavors prior to ordering. After wetting our whistles with some delicious vino, we moved on to the small charcuterie platter. Again, our server gave us the 411 on everything the platter had to offer before we chowed down. And chow we did. As a basic gal myself I've had my fair share of charcuterie boards. But NEVER have I had one so perfectly curated as this. With aged wagyu, chutney, and several cheese varieties, this board really put instagram girls to shame. Finally, we reached the pinnacle of our epic with the main course. I got the lamb rack while my friend got the short rib. Immediately upon seeing my plate, I knew that I had made the right choice. This plate has set the precedent for how my heart should react upon seeing a man enter the room. My adventure took me to the sandy shores of the mediterranean where I was fed fresh pita, hummus, the sexiest 4 little lamb racks I've ever seen, and a perfectly balanced vegetable medley. As a proud member of the clean plate club, I couldn't even finish this nicely sized portion and got to prolong my love for another night with my doggy bag. The Tasting Room was truly an amazing, delectable, and sexy adventure from start to finish. It may not be "local" cuisine, but (excluding various poke places) it was by far the best meal I had on Kauai. We ate at a lot of restaurants over 10 days. It's small and intimate. Classy but down to earth. Food was superb. I was hesitant getting artichoke dip as most places are all very similar, but this was a step above usual restaurant artichoke dip. Portuguese sardines with chimichurri were quite delicious. Not fishy at all. The roasted beet salad and the tasting room salad were both fantastic. If I had to choose one would probably go with the tasting room salad. Burrata salad is like a bruschetta with burrata. Also quite delicious. The French onion soup was pretty solid. The braised short rip was good but the star was the creamy mashed potatoes. The fish of the day was probably my favorite dish. Mahimahi with pesto over angel hair pasta. Both the fish and the angel hair were so good. Could have been separate dishes on their own. The wine selection looks pretty impressive. I think it's connected with the wine shop next door. Late post. If you are a wine person.. like me. You'd absolutely appreciate this gem. So tiny but just the right space to enjoy a beautiful meal with all the wines you can't expect. So the first time I came here with my boyfriend, we literally arrive on our first night in Kauai but on the last 30 Min before they closed. So we just had a glass of wine to celebrate that we made it to our bucket list island. And then we came back again before heading out to our dinner reservations. Although this is a spot to have dinner as well, the ladies recommended us some great appetizers before we had to go to our reservations. A fun date night spot for food and wine lovers (experts and novices) and truly a hidden treasure in Koloa Town. We ordered the small charcuterie board to start with, followed by their signature salad (had a great creamy dill dressing) and the arugula goat cheese smoked beets salad (the dressing did need an acid...balsamic vinegar or a squeeze of citrus), the rib eye steak was perfectly grilled and delicious, washed down w a 22 oz Kauai Beer, a glass of Prosecco and a flight blush wines from France, New Zealand, and Napa Valley. The only thing we did regret is not having room for the apple pie cheesecake dessert. The fish special was a large serving of blackened Ahi on thinly slices Shitakes, soba noodles, shredded cabbage, Sriracha sauce and plenty of vegetables. A layered dish and I loved every bit of it. My wife had a roasted half Japanese-more tender-chicken. House made sausage stuffing with raisins, and plenty of vegetables. It was like Thanksgiving dinner. A cut above, reasonable, and exceeded our expectations. Live music was perfect-get voice is smooth and bluesy. A glass of Chablis, and Vermentino, and we couldn't have been happier. read more

We really loved both our dining experiences at the Tasting Room. Went here on my birthday then on a whim the second time because we wanted to try the rest of the menu! First off, I'm by no means a foodie or a Win-o, but this place is THE place on the Southside for both! Our waitress Erica (for both evenings) was super courteous and attentive and did a really good job describing the various wines and the menu to us. With two visits under our belt, we almost tasted the whole menu. I was pleased to find out that the chef does nightly tasting sets, so we'll definitely be back. Atmosphere is definitely loud and lively inside! Lots of red faces and smiles, lol. We sat outside both times and enjoyed the more quiet and relaxed vibe. Some of my favorites I would recommend would be the French onion soup, the sardines, the foie gras, the mini rack of lamb, the panna cotta and toffee chocolate dessert. The chef himself came out and asked us how our meal was. Cool guy! I love that this place is different! I love that it's tapas/pupu style. We arrived and although the staff were busy, all were very friendly and welcoming. Our table was on the lanai, very cozy. Our server, Kristy (?) was very knowledgeable and her choices were excellent. We made our reservations the day before we ate there while browsing the wine shop. The owner came out, and even though they were closed, she brought me in and set me up with a ressie. If you love good wine, this is your place. Great selections from around the world at fair prices. We sat on the outside table with our 2 kids. The food was excellent as well. We had the burrata appetizer which was fresh and paired well with the wines,the goat cheese salad, flatbread, and my son ordered the mahi mahi over pasta. All were amazing first try. The steak came out rare (purple in the middle), not medium rare as we had ordered. They took it back and recooked it was perfect. Taste was wonderful and sauces great. god bless this place for taking in two adults and two babies without a reservation during dinner time. after a long day driving around waimea canyon, we decided to stop by la spezia as the woman i spoke to the day before said there was only a 20 minute wait if we wanted to eat at their restaurant for dinner. we decided not to go but showed up the day after i called and they couldn't seat us. so we walked into the tasting room and asked if there was a wait. they said we could be seated if we promise to finish in about an hour. we agreed and sat at our table immediately. unfortunately, the restaurant doesn't have high chairs so we had a two year old and an 11 month old on our laps while we ate. it wasn't the best seating situation, but we were just so happy that we got to dine inside a restaurant rather than doing takeout. food was DELICIOUS. we ordered the burrata, the meatloaf, and the deboned fried chicken. everything. EV.ERY.THING!!! tasted so comforting and delightful. wine selection was also yummy. everyone in the family enjoyed their meal. our server was such a sweetheart. very friendly. didn't rush us considering we had time constraints. turns out we were able to sit at the table for longer than an hour. the people working here were so hospitable. my family and i thoroughly enjoyed our experience. small parking lot in the back. it does help to have a reservation (as does every dine-in restaurant in poipu/koloa). highly recommend. read more
