Although the club members and residence is what makes this business great. The truth is this place lives off of convenience. The food is good but pricey for the quality and quantity. It's also not good enough to visit except out of convenience. Full opinion is if it weren't for the residents in this gated community being overly laid back with how this place seems to be run. Took my friend out for lunch at the Tavern at Cheval. It was a rainy day so a close place for a nice lunch. We were greeted and seated promptly. My friends 7 month old was able to look out the large windows to the awesome view of the golf course. The tomato basil bisque that I ordered was the best I have ever had. So smooth but rich and delicious with fresh basil. My salad was crisp and the lemon vinaigrette dressing was such a nice addition. My friend's grilled cheese with tomato was served hot and so tasty. Victoria was a great server and so informative. Compliments to the chef for a great lunch. The soups are rotated so I can't wait to taste the next one. read more

My kids attended the Cheval Summer Camp today and they couldn't find them when I went to get them!!! It took 30 minutes to find them. Their organization for picking up and dropping off was horrible- they have kids in charge with no adult supervision. There are no safety protocols in place, kids are not kept track of, and they didn't have the experience at the camp that was advertised. The golf camp did a great job. They should help the athletic center get organized. read more

Food is very good and service is always pleasant. The reason I didn't choose 5 stars is based on lack of convenience when ordering. I would love to be able to order online like most places do now instead of calling to be put on hold and wait to give order like the "old days". Delivery would also be amazing. For an additional fee, not sure why this couldn't be done around Cheval. I'm sure everyone around the neighborhood would utilize these services much more than right now how it is. read more

Cheval is nowhere near its price. Given my friends and I live 15 minutes away we had to try it out, but I have never been more disappointed playing in Tampa. We paid $120 and experienced the following: -Slow play (ended 55 minutes behind pace after the starter bragged about how many groups they got out that morning) -No cart girl until #9 and only saw her once -A cart that lost charge on #7 so we had to walk the last three holes. Not something you can always control, but the shop had zero empathy. No apologies and didn't even have a cart ready at the turn. Waited a few minutes and snagged one from a group that finished 18. -Asked for range balls twice in the pro shop prior to the round and was told to just go to the range. Range had no balls laid out and we couldn't figure out where to ask for them, so we just went to #1. For any average $30-45 course I wouldn't be upset, but given we paid $120, I could not be more disappointed. Although the fairways and greens were decent, I certainly wasn't blown away by the course. If you're considering playing a nice course in Tampa, I'd suggest the following over Cheval: -Fox Hollow -Westchase -TPC Tampa -Mangrove Bay (A municipal with better greens than Cheval) read more

A great place to host a wedding reception. Say what? I thought this was a golf and country club. What about the links? Sorry, my review is about their wedding planning and facilities. When my wife and I got married, we decided we wanted a nice reception, but refused to spend our first home's down payment on it. I don't recall how we even came to consider Cheval, but the lady we spoke to was wonderful. They actually have someone who helps people plan weddings at their place. They have a banquet facility that seats over 100 people, and the food was outstanding. We had two waiters taking care of our party, and there was a chef at a carving station handing out the meat. Everything was very elegant and classy. And, at the end, I recall my wife sitting down with the checkbook in her wedding dress writing out a check for the whole thing. Let me tell you, for what we got, it was a steal. If you need a nice spot to host your wedding reception (and I would imagine any other type of celebration), consider Cheval as a potential spot. My dinner was fabulous. Amber jack fish over succotash which included Lima beans, corn, red & yellow peppers with sweet potatoes and a wonderful lemon sauce.. All I know it was great. It was not heavy but filling. Each week I want to try something different and I will say their chicken piccata and ahi poke dish with tuna, mango, avocado and another fabulous sauce is so refreshing you have to try it. Today was the first time I've played at Cheval. I was really impressed with the condition of the course, especially the greens. Winter (dry season) can be hard on golf courses here in Florida, but you wouldn't know it at Cheval. The course is challenging but beautiful. It's obvious the new ownership is making investments into the golf experience. They recently upgraded their golf carts to a new system including music and near perfect GPS yardages (the pro said they recalibrate every morning when they change the pins). You can listen to Van Halen while decided what club to play on a 137 yard approach shot or 167 yard par 3. I had a post round drink and a cigar at the new Golfers Grail, near the clubhouse. It's a nice sports bar with 2 golf simulators, and an outdoor area with a deck, fire pit, tables, cornhole, Ping Pong, etc., where you can watch the sun set while enjoying a cigar. We played as the members for a day program and had an outstanding experience. We warmed up at the driving range and then the chipping and putting area. The course was very challenging and the layout outstanding. The fairways were in great shape as well as the greens which rolled true. The sugar white bunkers were plentiful and also well maintained. Plenty of wildlife to see on the course also as you play in and around the natural Florida wetlands areas. After golf we ate at the new clubhouse and the food was beyond our expectations.
