We had a great experience at The Tavern, Kitchen and Bar in Fenton, Michigan. Normally, I don't eat out near this office, but I haven't been feeling well during my visit. I am too tired to cook so we explored several new dining options. This being one of them. The weather here is glorious. Gentle breeze, not too humid and about 80°, which is far from the high 90s. I would be experiencing at home. I have been enjoying the mocktails I've been trying so I also ordered one here. It was also watermelon based and very good. We sat out on the patio and after I moved out of the direct sun it was a very comfortable. Taylor was our server and was great -giving us plenty of time and some good suggestions. My nephew, who loves Bavarian style pretzels, ordered that for an appetizer this evening not only was it huge, but it came with three different items to dip it in! Cheese, Jalapeño Cream Cheese, and Cinnamon Butter! Each one had been freshly made and whipped and was very good. The pretzel was as late and fluffy as a Bavarian pretzel could be and was nice and warm so the perfect item for dipping in the above mentioned delicious dips! The nephew ordered Chicken Parmesan and also ordered some Roasted Parmesan crunchy Potatoes as his side, I ordered the Pecan Crusted Chicken Breast over a lovely Green Salad with Balsamic Vinaigrette on the side. Both of our entries were delicious and my nephews Parmesan crusted roasted potatoes were also very good. We each admitted we would definitely order them a second time and maybe even a third!! It was very pleasant dining on the patio. Our server Taylor was very attentive and checked on us frequently, ensuring we had everything we needed. Blown away that this place has such good reviews - either I went on an insanely bad night or Fenton doesn't have many good options to choose from so the bar is low! I was told this was Fenton's best dining. Spinach and artichoke dip had no salt and the dip was grainy - almost gritty. It tasted better with salt. My ribeye was greatly overcooked, and for a $45+ steak, you want it cooked correctly. I sent it back and the second ribeye was somehow more burnt and also included a lot more fat. It was so bad it seemed almost intentional the second time. Mac and cheese tasted packaged/pre-made with grocery store bacon bits on top. The garlic potatoes were good. We waited for our check for 20 minutes after eating. Staff members were leaned against the bar and talking, scrolling cell phones, playing with their hair - while looking over at us repeatedly. I finally stood up to go to the front and three waitresses all came over at once and took my card. The manager came over to bring the card and apologized for the delay. Wouldn't come back - if this is Fenton's best, go to another town over for dinner! read more

My parents and I love this place! we go just about every time I come home from college, and the food is delicious! Our favorites are the Carne Asada Fries and Steak Tips for appetizers and everyone like a different entree lol. My favorite is the Korean Steak Sub or the Chicken Tortellini. The service is always amazing and everyone is happy to be there:) Very cozy inside, sometimes the music is a little questionable or too loud but we've asked them to turn it down before and they've obliged. Been here twice in a week. Both times had excellent service and food. Had the Michigan salad - very good I actually prefer pecans but the walnuts were ok. Next time had the chicken fajita wrap, very good, GENEROUS portion, I just asked for some sour cream to go with it and I to took half home. The food here is absolutely delicious and the portion sizes are huge! I got an ahi tuna wrap with fries instead of chips. I ordered the tuna medium rare and it went very well with the citrus slaw and chipotle ranch. It also came with a teriyaki ginger sauce for dipping! I chose the Tavern recently to meet a friend for dinner and drinks. It was a good halfway point for both of us, and conveniently located right next to US23. Upon arrival, you notice that this is a very nice and new establishment. It's exceptionally clean. The service was outstanding. We sat at the bar for three hours and were well taken care of. I was impressed with the whiskey selection. EH Taylor, Eagle Rare, and even Blantons were available. The beer selection was pretty good too. I wanted to write about our most recent experience at The Tavern. We came in last Friday just before 5pm. My husband ordered a beer for happy hour. We ordered the Steakhouse Burger, Loaded Rice and Chicken Bowl, and a kid's chicken tenders meal. We also had a coupon for $5 off $25 from a mailer. The waitress applied the coupon and brought the bill. Without looking at it, we paid it and then grabbed the receipt. We found we were charged full price for the beer, despite the happy hour pricing. When we asked the waitress why the beer wasn't adjusted she went off to ask someone. She returned saying we could not use the coupon and get the happy hour pricing, it's one or the other. I feel this was not clearly explained (neither on the coupon nor by the waitress initially) and really unfair to your patrons. Additionally, the kid's meal was supposed to come with ice cream and my daughter never got any. Perhaps it was because the restaurant was growing busy by 5:30, but we felt a little rushed. I can't say we will be rushing back to The Tavern anytime soon. While the food was good and cooked well, the overall experience left a bad taste in my mouth. read more

I've had the wings, the southwest eggrolls and the fried ravioli appetizers and all were excellent. Their chicken and dumpling soup and brunch skillet looked awesome too but I didn't try them. They have a skrewball old fashion that tasted just like a peanut butter cup and excellent Bloody Mary's. Service is a bit slow but probably because they are so busy. My son and I came for brunch. Let me start by saying that the coffee was the most watered down coffee I have ever had the misfortune of trying to drink. You don't have to buy an expensive espresso coffee maker. You can buy a Bialetti Mocha Pot and make a very good enough espresso, Americano, or just a nice strong cup of coffee by adding water to the mocha pot coffee for customers that want a real cup of coffee. The coffee was NOT drinkable. The brunch ambiance was ruined by the rock and roll music. A place that is trying to be fancy should play classical or smooth jazz music or nothing would be better than the cacophony that was playing. The breakfast fries were dry and sliding around the plate, the country fried steak was dry and salty, and the sausage gravy although there was meat in it was gelatinous. My son is 25 so he eats everything. Our waitress was not a happy person. I did not want my food all heaped on top of each other in a bowl. This way I could just eat the eggs with a few dry potatoes.
