*Easily* the best actual restaurant in a 10 mile radius. *Probably* the best restaurant for 200 miles west of the 303 and into Indio/Palm Springs. I live in SF, so, yeah, I'm spoiled when it comes to food. I'm in Surprise often. Every time I visit, I'm dying for an actual restaurant. Not a chain, not fast-food, not a hidden taqueria, not a bar with a food menu. And not an homage to what {ethnicity} food was like in {where you came from} in the good ol' days of 1982. Real food. With a chef, not a cook. With finesse. And a spark of inspiration. A wine list that's not...well...just embarrassing. A damn fine Manhattan. If you are in/near Surprise, this is that restaurant. Is it more expensive than Olive Garden? or Outback? Probably. Is it more expensive than driving to Midtown or Scottsdale or for a restaurant that competes at this level? We got the 3 toast appetizer and it was terrific. We shared it among 4 and it was enough for each of us to get a great sampling. The mussels were pretty good, too. The espresso old fashioned was terrifically different and refreshing. For my entree I got the Cuban sandwich with rosemary fries, and it was surprisingly well-made! The service was a little slow (our hostess/waitress was very pleasant) as I think they were understaffed for a busy Wednesday night, but we sat outside and loved the environment and enjoyed our evening together! A small restaurant with a lot of interesting options on the dinner menu. my friend and I each had the Egg Plant dish which was good. it was crisp and garlicy (maybe just a bit too much). another friend with us had the Cubano Sandwich and he said it was fantastic with the Rosemary fries being a real big hit. we tried the goat cheese balls for an appetizer and they were "ok"... maybe could have benefited from more of the honey pistachio drizzle. I had the pomegranate mule from the drink menu and it was bubbly and smooth. I didn't taste much alcohol. the experience was great. the service was friendly and the food as good. we'd go back and try some of the other yummy sounding things on the menu. read more

I have tried Toast twice. The Cuban was properly pressed Miami style I would get again. But then again owner had a sandwich restaurant in Wickenburg. Stick to sandwiches. The green chili pork I would pass as the pork was chewy and the tortilla was stuck together-pass. The tomato basil soup tasted like a high thick quality tomato sauce (Raos) it was made with fresh ingredients but it was not a soup it needed pasta or bread to dunk-pass. Brussels and blue it was a little acidic-pass. The Mediterranean Chicken was tender other than the red peppers it was decent. Overall it is a small restaurant with a fresh interior but they need to focus on getting better chefs (not cooks) to elevate food to desired level. Maybe try not have the restaurant kitchen staff yelling at each other for other to hear. Especially when it is about a dish you ordered. Also they should not encourage individuals to just drop by to sit at bar, drink, not eat, and despite hearing staff bragging about free Suns tickets patron. I do not believe this is Cheers bar. We LOVE the Toast! The food is always consistently delicious. My fav is the French. Tender roast beef and the bread is always so soft. The rosemary fries are delish and the horse radish sauce for dipping the Sammy is so good! The service is always super friendly. Ate here last night (5-28) with family group of eight. Food was outstanding. Surprised that a Mediterranean restaurant did not have Italian salad dressing. Service was superb. Walking in it looks very modern and trendy, very attractive. I can only imagine that the very cool lights look great at night. We had a res for a group of 10 and they seated us immediately. Hostess, bartender and wait staff were all very friendly. The food was amazing. I had the green chili pork with tortillas and it was devine. We (a party of 3) decided to go to one of our favorite places for dinner a couple nights ago. Upon our arrival at Toast we were greeted with a smile by the hostess and seated with menus and utensils. Shortly after, a different staff member brought waters and stated someone would be by shortly to take care of us. After a 20 minute wait without much more than one or two brief glances by virtually every staff member, we got up and left with two completely unexpected things; a tremendous disappointment, and an empty stomach. First time here. Loved it and will be returning. Started off with the fried goat cheese balls. They were excellent. Crispy perfect orbs, with a mild goat cheese interior. These sit on a bed of pistachios and honey with a hint of truffle. Would eat again. For the entree, I got the Mediterranean chicken. This checked all the boxes for me. Excellent, crisp veggies, tender chicken, nice pan sauce. Very satisfying. They serve this with a nice looking steak knife, but you don't need it. I just used my fork to cut the chicken. Dessert was the pizookie, which again, was excellent. Just the right amount of ice cream to cookie. Great meal. Will be going back. read more

We walked into the restaurant and she looked us over we said "table for 4 please" and she grabbed the menus walked to a table and dropped the menus on the table and then walked away. Not our first time but it's ben a while. Celebrating a birthday and made reservations for 2. Staff was attentive and training a new server. We each ordered the southwest pork chop with mashed potatoes and elote. One chop was underdone for our taste and they cheerfully took it back for a bit more cook. Side Caesar salad was delish...not overdressed (some might say a bit dry) and we loved it!! The pork chop was huge and perfectly cooked, the mashed potatoes delish and the elote delightfully spicy, limey & charred. The chef came out to ask about our meals and provided a wealth of info on the brining he used on the chop. We shared the baklava and the house comped it as a birthday courtesy. My daughter got the waffles and chicken which had a very hearty helping and was also quite delicious. Tried this place for brunch. We got sat right away as a party of 2, which was great. But it took about 10mins for a server to acknowledge us for a drink order. Sadly we were given Togo menus, so drinks were not listed on those... it took about 3 mins for her to find dine in menus... We then ordered a caramel macchiato & a Bloody Mary, which took about 15 minutes to arrive. We then placed our food order...We ordered the "Trailer Park Skillet" & "Chicken Falafel". I ordered my eggs over easy for the skillet, which unfortunately they came out over hard. The Waffle was decent, however the meal was a little dry, we wanted to ask for additional syrup, but by the time the server came around to ask how everything was, we were already done eating. [that took about 13mins] Overall, the food & pricing were decent. However, I expected the skillet portion to be a little bigger [pictured]... As far as service goes, expect a very slowwwww dining process, which is odd for brunch. The couple next to us spoke/complained their entire meal regarding the slow service as well. They ordered 2 coffees which came up fairly fast but they waited about 10mins for cream & sugar.. Then when their food arrived, we were mid meal; they asked their waitress for salt & pepper. I told them they could just have ours, since by the time they will get it their food would be cold or finished. They laughed & we're grateful. Went to this as a luncheon group Queens from Sun City West 35 gals Ordered an Old fashion after reading on yelp it was the best one ever, I agree it is great The menu had a large variety Of entrées, sandwiches and salads They are known for their charcuterie boards Everyone ordered a mixture of all of the above. The only complaint was the salmon was over cooked. Everything I tasted it was really very tasty although it did take over an hour for us to get our lunch. Our drinks were filled water wine tea often The Service was prompt even as large a group. The whole restaurant was full. The Cubano sandwich came it was worth the wait it was really delicious it had pork green chili pork on it ham very soft tasty Ciabatta bread and their rosemary fries really hit the spot. I will definitely return with another couple just not with a big big big group even though they really did handle us well.
