If you are looking for a trendy casual dining restaurant with overstuffed sandwiches, an everchanging menu and payment through some electronic device called a kosk, this place is not for you. Originally founded in 1964 the Town House Cafe has been owned by the Hamm family until this day where Cedrick Hamm is the current "caretaker". An old southern style cafe, the focus is on keeping it simple and getting it right by sticking to the basics. My wife and I enjoyed BLTs, fried green tomotoes and one beverage for lunch yesterday. We paid less than $20 plus tip. All ingredients were fresh including the bacon which appeared to have been cooked in the last 30 minutes. What a concept, freshly cooked bacon! The sandwich menu is extensive with choices including burgers, greilled ham and cheese, Reuben and many more. While there we met Mr. Hamm who was busy clearing tables, taking out the trash and greeting customers. He said he's been working there since 1966 and wants to maintain the cafe's excellent reputation for food quality and customer service. This elderly man has a strong work ethic and sets an outstanding example for the employees. If you are ever in Covington stop by and enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner at The Town House Cafe and say hello to Mr Hamm. By the way they still handle payment the old fashioned way without the inconvenience of a kiosk. read more

We loved this restaurant!! Please make time to visit this cafe when shopping downtown on the square!! Friendly, family staff and amazing food. And not over priced like many places down town. By far the best place we have eaten on the square. Hands down. We will definitely return!! True diner food. Certain menu items by the day. My husband had a burger, I had chicken, our daughter had chicken fingers, all amazing. The sweet potato fries were soooo good and even smelled like heaven. This is a true gem. A sweet couple pointed us to this place for great food. We weren't disappointed, the food was great and the service superb. I'm fairly new to this side of town and stumbled across this place fore breakfast. It is the perfect spot to grab a bite eat that taste like your grandma made breakfast on a Saturday morning. I enjoyed a waffle, bacon, and coffee and couldn't have paid more than $5. The service was great too. The place is filled with tons of history if you have time to look around on the walls. A time capsule! I've lived here a majority of my life and just recently went in for the first time! Delicious home cooked meat-n-three hometown restaurant! We loved Chris and his delightful banter as we struggled to decide which thing to order. Too many choices! I had cube steak and rice and fried okra, my husband had a burger and fries, and my daughter had country fried steak with rice and green beans. Excellent meal! Walking into the Town House Cafe is like walking back in time. The exterior has starred in a Tyler Perry movie but the food served inside is the real star. Well, maybe Mr Hamm is the real star. He is the nicest man, serving up great blue plate specials in a restaurant that has remained unchanged for decades. I just love knowing this kind of place still exists. If you happen to be there and see a cake on the cake stand, buy a slice. No matter what kind of cake, a slice of one of Mr Hamm's cakes is absolute bliss. What a great little place to stop for lunch! We were visiting GA and decided to make a stop to see some of the smaller towns outside of Atlanta when we stumbled on this place. The staff was extremely polite, attentive and friendly! The food was fantastic and comforting. The menu consists of a few meat choices, sandwiches, burgers and daily vegetable specials. I tried the pork chops which were amazing! The fried okra was great too! It is obvious they take time to cook the food fresh and the taste verifies that. The cabbage was excellent as well as the rice covered in homemade brown gravy. I loved it all and would highly recommend you stop by if you're in town. The price was also very reasonable. The only down side is it is quite small with limited seating. That is hardly a downside however since it adds to the quaint atmosphere that I loved. Also, if you want a dessert try the sweet potato pie. It was delicious! read more
