Fun spot! We came in on a cold Monday just for a quick lunchtime drink, and were pleasantly surprised. Feels like a neat little bar tucked in some tiny Colorado mountain town. Rotating drinks specials, a slew of tap beers, friendly bartender, and free stickers to slap on your coolers. What more could you want? This place is super fun and has a total local vibe. Which is my favorite. I loved the large menu and the prices. I sat at the bar and got a burger and a beer. They had a few version of Berger and even an upgrade for local meat which I totally went for because of course! The staff was so friendly and knew a ton of the people sitting at the bar. There were a few tv's on with some sports that kept a bunch of the guys at the bar entertained. But there were also many other tables in the large restaurant where it wasn't distracting. My burger was delicious and so were the fries. I'll defiantly be coming back next time I'm in Black Mountain. This place is in a central location and I had a lot of fun walking around the town. What a great place to visit as we continue on our journey on I-40. Came here a year ago en route to the same conference and so glad we came back. Definitely got the appetizer IPA O'rings again - so good. The kids meals are so much more than your average kids meal, and the sides are so delicious and filling. One got chicken tenders and fries and the other got Mac and cheese and corn pudding. That Mac and cheese and corn pudding is worthy of becoming an adult meal. At our table, we got the Linville Falls chicken sandwich with side salad, Trailblazer burger with fries, and their special chicken sandwich of the day with side salad. After eating the onion rings, we all split our burgers/sandwiches and only ate half the meal. It's a chair and table type of restaurant with some bench seats, but there's also outdoor seating. The service is quick and very attentive. Our server was constantly in motion, so as soon as our food came up in the window, it was at our table in seconds. Drink glasses were kept full, and empty plates were whisked away to make room for new plates. The ambiance is laid back - it is what the name is, so there's things you would find along the trail, plus canoes and kayaks as decoration as well. There's a large bar against one wall, but it's a gorgeous wood so it really adds to the ambiance. The music is on the louder side, but you can still hold a conversation. I knew most of the songs that came on - LCD Soundsystem, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Cold War Kids, etc. The bathrooms inside the restaurant are individual, so you might have to watch and wait if there's many people inside, but the restaurant connects to other restaurants by a back door near the bathrooms and there's more in the "connection alley" for lack of better term. This is becoming our "up the mountain" stop and I look forward to coming back next year. No pictures because after I thought to take some the food had been half devoured, and it wouldn't have done the meal justice. Just trust me - come here and be impressed. read more

We at there on 10/16. This place was recommended by the desk clerk of the motel we were staying at. The service was excellent, the food was outstanding, and the prices were reasonable. My wife had one of the gargantuan hamburgers and I had the seared tuna! Both equally well cooked and presented. Our "waitress-in-training", Emma, was equally impressive and caught on pretty quick to my good-natured ribbing about being a rookie! Not only was staff friendly, but the patrons we encountered while waiting to be seated, were just as friendly! Will definitely be a repeat when we visit again. read more

This place was packed on the Sunday evening before Labor Day with a 45-minute wait for a table for 2. We asked if we could place a carry-out order at the bar, and headed over to the bar instead. One of the bartenders took our order and advised it would be a 25 minute wait, still less than waiting for a table! Hubby ordered the Mountain to Sea fish and chips, I ordered the Ahi Tuna Tacos with black beans, and we split an order of Beer Battered Onion rings. We received our order in slightly less than 25 minutes, and the bartender made sure we had napkins and utensils. We then took the food back to where we were staying and ate on the front porch with a gorgeous view of the mountains! The onion rings were some of the best either of us ever had, and really didn't even need the dipping sauce. The portion of fish in Hubby's order was more than he could eat, and my tacos also had chips in with the tacos, which were delicious. The black beans were just spicy enough with some kind of red pepper in them, and I too had more food than I could eat. We enjoyed everything and would consider returning if or when we are back in the area. read more

I enjoyed the Linville chicken sandwich, fried, but I had a hard time deciding there were so many good choices. Great for a date night! While on a ladies' weekend escape into the mountains, we stumbled across this gem of a restaurant- they have ample outdoor, covered seating, ample indoor seating, and a fantastic menu! Our sever, Willa, was so patient answering our tons of questions (one seafood allergy, one new diabetic). We each ordered a drink (I tried the melon mint- super different and very yummy!). Everyone's drinks were cold and delicious! For food, I was so impressed! I had the Catawba Falls entree- Fresh North Carolina trout filet served over charred kale salad with pickled red onions, carrots, roasted red pepper coulis, and goat cheese. Sooooo delicious!!! The trout was so unbelievably tasty that I don't think I said a word until I had eaten every last morsel off of my plate! Another friend had the Hickory Nut Falls entree- the steak was delicious and the chimichurri took it over the top delicious!
