We went here for dinner tonight, after spending 3 days in the hospital with a very sick family member. We wanted to treat ourselves after some difficult days. It will be my first and last time going here. The employees were very friendly, but the quality of the food lacked. I ordered the skirt steak which came with potatoes and a vegetable. The vegetable was a kale, with practically no seasoning and hardly cooked. I felt like I had a somewhat warm kale salad on my plate. The potatoes were stone cold. I asked for some warm ones and I got them when every one was finished with their dinner. My daughter ordered the brick chicken and it was supposed to come with a "crispy" polenta and some vegetable. Ther polenta was anything but crispy and the vegetable was also not edible. My husband ordered salmon with french fries. The piece of salmon was so small and unappetizing looking. When we came home, ate some leftover food from our dinner at home the night before because he was hungry. I had to ask twice for a box for food we did not finish. Then, it came to dessert. We ordered 2 desserts. One was brought and placed in the middle of the table. It was eaten by the person that ordered it and then about 10 minutes later came the second dessert we ordered. Our bill was almost $150. Money not well spent. It was a very frustrating experience and I have no intention of going again. The view was beautiful which was the only redeeming quality of this place. If you want to have a quality meal, for a little less money, and a similar view, go to The Spinnaker, just a 5 minute walk away. read more

Hostess was hopeless and forgot about us as we were waiting for a table to be cleaned..then she took us to a completely different table,left four menus even though we told her we were a party if three. We waiting g almost 15 mins for our server to appear to even offer us a drink...we put our food offer in while she took drink orders Incase she never returned! She had no personality and it was obviously a chore to serve us. She brought our during with no glasses for the bottled drinks before we could ask she was away again.. Finally got glasses slammed down on the table...no ice no straws. Burgers came out without cheese so back they went. The burgers were Bland, no flavor and dry, the bun was bone dry no sauce or mayo...for an expensive place in Sausalito food was bad..I won't be back..worst place ever!!! read more

Well, this place gets two ratings... The history and general groove of the place are pretty awesome, and we were lucky enough to get some inside scoop on the place from a couple of locals. So, from a funky historical perspective, I liked it. BUT - and this is a big but... The food was pretty lame. I had a Nicoise salad, which was over 20 bucks, and it was bland... So sad! My partner had the sole, and it was alright, but not great. I really hoped for better, and hope they can improve, because it's a neat place. We had a nice wine. The service was superb - 5 star chef! Brendan is an amazing #1 waiter! Just top notch! The food was delicious and our HOSTESS - HELEN was phenomenal! I had a large birthday dinner for 15 and the waiter was on top of it catering to our every need. Helen was also right there and helped the entire night. She is warm and friendly and efficient. My guest were all commenting on what a fabulous host she was and what an excellent waiter we had. From beginning to end, Helen organized the entire event. The tables were beautifully done and she even had a special "happy birthday Wendy" across the top of the menu's. I was very impressed. The Chef cooks to perfection. Everyone loved the food. It is rare you go to a place where they just hit a home run in every category! I have been 6 or 7 times and the food, and service is consistently outstanding! Helen's contagious smile and helpfulness is truly genuine. The view speaks for itself - a million dollar view for sure. When you go to the Trident, you are made to feel special. The ambiance including the music is by far my number one "go to" restaurant! I know of no other restaurant in the SF Bay Area that is better than this one - far superior in every category! I hope Helen is there a long time because knowing you will be taken care of whether you are one or 51 is what makes it an amazing destination experience. read more

Last Saturday my husband and I took two Australian visitors to The Trident for a late lunch. Our male friend wanted a steak and despite it not being on the luncheon menu, the waiter managed to order it for him. My husband and I opted for the catch of the day, halibut at $34.00 per plate. I have visited The Trident often and been pleased with the food. This day was a dismal and utter disaster. The steak arrived and in the middle of eating it, a hair was found on the plate; because our guest did not wish to make a scene he would not let us report this. The fish that we ordered was badly presented and quite tasteless, accompanied by burnt asparagus. The potatoes were okay. The meals were definitely overpriced and really not quality and I am not sure that I will want to revisit The Trident again. read more

The food and view is incredible. We ate there on the evening of Dec. 26 when a wedding party was also there. This did not cause any problems with our experience at all. It was about 6:30-7:30pm. I started with the jumbo prawn cocktail and my adult daughter had a small salad. Both were delicious. The bread was also wonderful. And they had live music with a female singer and a male guitarist. It was lovely. My entree was the sole and it was cooked perfectly on a bed of spinach and a few roasted potatoes, with a wine sauce. Excellent! My daughter had the garden trilogy, a vegetarian dish. Wonderful flavors and expertly prepared. We had a wonderful bottle of write wine that we both enjoyed. The view across the bay is great. You can see San Francisco and the Bay Bridge. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. read more

One of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. We came in with my fiancées parents who were in town for the weekend and ordered the filet and the salmon which were both extremely overcooked and the scallops were rubbery as well as flavorless. The server was extremely helpful as well as apologetic, immediately brought a female manager over to the table who was incredibly rude, talked down to us and refused to comp our untouched food. The one star is for the server who was very friendly and prompt but this view is not worth the quality of food nor the disdainful way we were treated by the management. I personally always enjoy this restaurant when I come to Sausalito. I usually get scallops or fish and have never been disappointed. I actually have sat in and out and prefer to sit inside. I find I feel a more upscale experience sitting inside than the deck, which to me just looks like cheap picnic tables...sorry Trident! Our waiter was very quiet and said about 10 words to us during our entire meal. Didn't even check to see if we needed anything inbetween. Great location and great view, but expensive for no so great food and lack of service professionalism. Went there for my brothers b-day, and was was disappointing he had to get up and move his car, i guess there is no garage service after 9pm. Then I order the bill and to have our food remainings to go and the waitress brings box and bag for us to take care of but was enough slick to suggest and ask if I was going to give a 25, 20 or 15 percent tip. In a way she made me think the tip was obligatory, when the bill came back with credit card, she had filled the tip for me. So slick. I would have complained but since it was my brothers birthday didnt want to ruin the moment by making a scene or getting upset. But I am upset, I personally have worked as a waiter and would not dare to suggest a tip much less with such a poor service are you kidding me?!! read more

Went to The Trident on 6/6/15. Entered and was seated promptly. The table we were placed at had no flatware or napkins. The waitress brought water and menus. After 12-15 minutes I had to flag the waitress down so we could order. Food arrived, chowder bread bowl. Seemed rather small, but it tasted ok. The waitress walked passed us several times checking on her other guests. Not once asked how we were doing or if we would like something else. Finished dinner and waited another 10 minutes or so and eventually had to flag her down for the check. I have never had poorer service. This was the first time I have ever left no gratuity. read more

My mom and I stopped by this beautiful seaside restaurant per request of my dad who'd previously visited on a business trip and absolutely loved it. We were a little worried about pricing, especially having spent the whole week traveling up and down California for college touring. Luckily, the food we chose was way too AMAZING to regret! The prices were about as expected, a little bit less for some items (which was nice), and even the more expensive items were GIANT plates or bowls full of delicious food. Definitely worth the price! As an appetizer, we had the calamari which was definitely my favorite part of the meal. I ended up ordering a huge crab cake sandwich that I adored, and my mom's choice of the cioppino was totally delicious! The service was awesome: our waiter made sure that we and everyone around us were always happy, comfortable, and enjoying our food. The view wasn't too bad, either! If you get the chance, sitting outside is absolutely the best placement. Being able to see the different islands and boats out on the water, feel the sun and wind, and laugh at the brave little birds that sometimes fly by is all a big part of what made this experience stick out so well. At first, as we entered the restaurant, we were greeted by two very cute women. The restaurant seemed pretty decent. We descended the stairs towards our table with a smile on our face. And thats when the smell hit us. GAS! The smell of natural gas filled the lower deck. We instantly ran back to the entrance and notified the staff about the gas leak. Shockingly, they were very nonchalant about it. They said that they would take care of this at the end of the day. Outstanding outdoor waterfront seating with views of entire Bay Area. Service prompt. Food very good but with a few tweeks would be outstanding: 1) the deviled eggs were very good with the added horseradish but filled to overflowing. The crab was a 1/2 inch piece of crab on top & would have been superb if shredded crab had been added to the filling & then piped. After the first bite I actually chopped the little piece of crab, mixed it with the filling & chopped basil & it was wonderful. I will make this version for a holiday dinner party. 2) the salmon teriyaki sandwich ingredients were very good. The ciabatta bun is too stiff to eat & enjoy the flavored & I removed the bun. The sandwich would be perfect with a softer warm brioche bun. 3) the salad that came with the sandwich was pitiful. It appeared to be a bag of arugula opened & a guite good vinaigrette added--please take the short time to make a valuable salad to eat-- red onions, tomatoes, perhaps grated cheese, pine nuts, cranberries, cucumbers, radishes. The service was acceptable. I would return for the view & ambience & perhaps be thrilled by these minor improvements or order another selection & anticipate it exceeding my expectations. read more

I've only ever yelped once before when the service was extraordinary....luckily i have had yet another great experience to yelp about, the time at a restaurant in Sausalito, The Trident: I was at The Trident not long ago for their grand opening. The atmosphere was awesome, the staff were very attentive, and the chef made appearances on the front of the restaurant often. He was obviously very proud of his excellent dishes....and he had every right to be proud as they were superb! Everything from the nicoise salad to the scrumptous scallops to my fave of the evening.... the desserts...omg they were truly to die for! And I thought after the scallops...nothing could top that dish...i was so wrong! our table had three desserts and we all tasted all three. They were fab! I will be going back to the trident again soon. Ive already recommended it to several friends. If you want a fabulous meal on the water and a very attentive wait staff...The Trident is the place! read more

Don't understand the 5 star reviews for this place. This place is the quintessential tourist trap. And, the food is just awful. I'm a local and went there with 2 out of town friends on Saturday. While sitting on the deck was beautiful I couldn't believe my eyes when the salads came out. There must be a lettuce shortage because there was hardly any on the plate. The salad nicoise had maybe 2 pieces of tuna. The $19 salad with the chicken added had maybe 3 small pieces of chicken. The chef needs to go to some of the local restaurants and see what other restaurants in Sausalito call a salad and take a lesson. I don't think the Spinnaker(horrible place too) would think of charging $19 for 3 small slices of chicken and a couple of pieces of lettuce. Go to Poggio for an excellent meal in downtown Sausalito. You won't have the view of the water but you can stroll by the water before or after a fabulous meal. read more

Lacking the ambiance of the hippy/rock-star 70's that was the attempt to revive but Sausalito is a much different town today. It was my first time at trident . I was with my boyfriend and two other friends. I had clam chowder as an starter and sword fish as an entree. It was delicious. A beautiful place with a positive environment. A definite must go to with friends or family. My server Anthony was a happy , pleasant soul that complied to my every wish. The food was incredible and I haven't seen lobsters like those since my last trip to Australia! Of course I had to try everyones food at our table and was very impressed down to the detail of the way it was served on the plate. The fish was much fresher then the Fish Market. Worth every penny! And bathrooms were immaculate. And the water turned off right away at the sink as soon as I pulled my hands away. They are definitely conscious of the drought, thank you Trident!
