Great staple in Black Rock and their new location offers great outdoor seating and beautiful decorated through out. The Castle has a huge following because the food is great, the owners care about their staff and community! Highly recommend if you are visiting the area.

This is a hidden gem and great local spot right in Black Rock with the tastes of Ireland and some fun variations too. They easily pushed back our reservation and served us with warmth and pride. They serve Magner's cider which I love and could only get in England previously. They have rotating specials and soups. We opted for the French onion soup which was cheesy and had a good depth of flavor but I wanted the crouton on top to be a bit more crispy. For the entree, I went with the beef curry special, where the beef was super tender, rice was well cooked but not mushy and the curry had robust flavor with a hint of spice in a great size portion. During our meal, they made a mistake and missed a dish for the table. Upon realizing this, they expedited it out of the kitchen and it arrived in less than 10 minutes along with some fries on the house. You can tell that the owner is hands on and cares about the service, food quality and taste as well as his staff.

We were visiting from out of town and came here for Thanksgiving Eve dinner with the family. They set up a spacious table for 8. The waiter was very attentive, efficient, helpful and pleasant. Everyone loved their choices. The wings were definitely a hit- an appetizer, a meal, and even a carry-out order. The meatloaf special was a hit so was the seafood trio. The penne a la vodka was perfectly cooked and seasoned. We also got steak sandwich, Reubens, and ceasar salad with blackened chicken. Overall a great experience.

Takes a lot for me to go 5 stars but Castlenis special. The owners have created a true Irish pub with great drinks, lots of TVs, attentive staff and, amazing food. A remodeled gem in BlackRock, everyone is friendly and the food is delicious and plentiful. Immediate parking is a bit tight but they have additional parking available. Great for a family meal at the tables or to watch sport in the bar.

The Castle Black Rock is the latest incarnation of the venerable and epic Black Rock Castle that was once located about a half mile further down the road. Then came the Castle on Post. The Castle on Post took over a little spot in Fairfield and was a smashing success. When this location in Black Rock opened, the owners couldn't wait to move. The Castle Black Rock is everything that was the Castle on Post but a little bit bigger. Perfect pub food. Now, the bar area is separate from the dining room but has its own high top tables for dining in the middle. They also have a huge patio to enjoy outdoor dining. Like each previous iteration, the Castle Black Rock has attentive service which makes everything smooth and enjoyable. When we visited there for the first time a few weeks ago, we were greeted by the owner as old friends. At this latest visit, we enjoyed the au poivre burger, shrimp tacos and shepard's pie. My discerning culinary assistants, #1 & #2 sons, proclaimed the tacos and pie to be excellent. My burger was cooked perfectly along with crispy fries. Enjoy!

After that I didn't feel like playing guessing games, so I just skipped getting a drink altogether. Service was confusing. No one greeted us when we walked in, so we weren't sure if we seat ourselves or wait. We ended up asking the bar, then once we sat down, we were still unsure if someone would come take our order. Eventually figured out you have to order at the bar. We ordered the Irish nachos and shepherd's pie to share. The Irish 'nachos' were actually tasty, seasoned waffle fries, nice and crispy, super flavorful. Only downside was they were a little light on the cheese. The shepherd's pie was good too. Overall, I just wasn't feeling the vibe and didn't stay for dessert, just wanted to head out. I will say though, Sean came over later and was very nice and professional, definitely stood out and gave manager vibes. The rest of the staff wasn't attentive, but it was St. Patrick's Day, so I get that it was probably a hectic night for them.

Ah, good ol' Black Rock (heaven forbid you call it 'Bridgeport!'), CT. There was a time (in my…read moretwenties) when I was a regular out in Black Rock, frequenting such long gone places like The Black Rock Castle, The Field, The Bitter End, Black Rock and Blue, etc. Then something happened. I would say that I grew up, but I know many who would disagree with that statement. So let's just say that I got older. You see, the Black Rock nightlife scene is wonderful if you're twentysomething looking for a casual night out somewhere where you can dress like a vagabond, stumble in and out of bars that are adjacent to one another, and get plastered without having to spend a whole lot of money. Now I don't mean to sound all high and mighty and above all of that, it's just that I can no longer pass for 26 (despite my best efforts), and out in Black Rock on a Friday night I can't help but feel like an overdressed square peg in a round hole. And if you're not a twentysomething in Black Rock, then you're probably an artist, an aging hippie of some sort, or a lifelong Black Rock native, the kind whose blood boils when their beloved coastal community is referred to as 'Bridgeport.' Artists, hippies, natives...they're all good people, it's just that I would stick out like a sore thumb around them. So aside from the killer pizza at Fire Engine Pizza Co. and the savory bites at Hub and Spoke, I avoid Black Rock. But having heard so much about Tautog Tavern over the last year or so, I decided to try to put aside my Black Rock hangups and show a good buddy of mine a fun time over a drink or two. Walking into Tautog Tavern last night with a bit of a narrow mind in regard to the surrounding area, I wasn't expecting much. In fact, my first impression was, 'Yep...typical dark and dingy Black Rock dive bar.' At each end of the bar were two seemingly lonely middle-aged men, nursing a beer (the twentysomethings were probably still at work or at the gym), while some Led Zeppelin blared. I was convinced I had made the wrong choice for happy hour. Fortunately, my mind was quickly changed. We were greeted by the bartender, who was pleasant and kind. I can't recall her name (I think it was Kerry?), but in talking with her, we quickly learned that she is well-cultured and well-traveled. Unlike most female bartenders who try desperately to be flirty or call their male patrons 'doll' or 'sweetie' in hopes of getting a better tip, Kerry was mellow and seemed to be a genuine conversationalist. I was also quite appreciative of her recommending I order the well vodka (and letting me sample it first) as it was nearly half the price of my usual Stolichnaya. A bartender doing the opposite of the upsell? Unheard of! I was impressed. I was also impressed that the drink was strong. My buddy and I took a quick look at the happy hour bar bites menu and ordered both the Pimento Cheese Fries and the wings, which were served in Sweet Thai Chili Sauce. Both were excellent, and the portions were hearty. The latter was a refreshing summer change to the usual greasy and sticky buffalo wings. The price was right, too. As I've always felt that drinking and music go hand and hand, I'm quite fond of any bar that has a TouchTunes digital jukebox, which allows you to program and pay for your music using your smartphone. Not many bars that I frequent in this area have this, but Tautog does, and I was delighted to be able to put together a setlist of music that I enjoy drinking to. When the setlist ended, the bartender asked what else we might like to hear. I suggested some Steely Dan, and she loaded up TouchTunes with a seemingly endless string of their hits and deep cuts. The bottom line is this- the overall vibe at Tautog Tavern is a good one, making an outsider like me feel very welcome. People were mellow, and there was even the most docile and beautiful German Shepherd hanging out in the place. And while it's highly unlikely that you'll find me cutting the rug there on a Saturday night alongside some unkempt millennials who are slugging down PBR while some jam-band plays (apparently the Tautog Tavern is a Black Rock hub for live music on the weekends), I will most definitely be back there sooner rather than later for happy hour. Hell, I may even stay for dinner as the menu looks quite good and the service was top-notch.

They could have easily fit another 3 stools at the bar; people were actually standing in the places stools could have gone. The place felt like an old neighborhood bar where guys went after work for a beer before heading home. Everyone seemed to know each other. Besides the bar scene it was empty. I walked to the bar and asked for menus and a few beers. We had to go to the bar each time to order. We got the buffalo wings and Sikorsky sliders. Food took a while but it was worth it. The wings were breaded so they had a nice crunch to them. The sliders were great - grilled chicken, bacon, sharp cheddar and cracked pepper mayo. The food was really good, I always appreciate a breaded wing. The beer and wings were supposed to be on happy hour at $5 each as noted on the menu. When we got the bill we were charged full price for everything. We asked the bartender why they weren't discounted and he explained that they weren't on HH. We asked him to look at the menu and he said he would honor the prices but the menus were wrong...? I wonder how many times people were charged full price for these items before and didn't take the time to look at the bill. I don't know if that's a normal practice in this place but its a shame because I definitely will not be going back.

First, parking is extremely limited but luckily we found a spot. We entered, it's a small bar/restaurant with a cute L shaped wood bar. We took the only two chairs available at the bar between regulars who were having a lively, humorous conversation. The bartender was blond, late 20's we guess and friendly, she didn't tell us her name. She quickly took our drink orders and asked if we would like to see the menu. I love Rueben sandwiches and travel from Trumbull to Mystic CT for the absolute best in CT. They get their corn beef from the oldest butcher in Europe (Friar Tucks). Hubby had the shepherd's pie empanadas. These are two to an order and are quite large. They come with a gravy that was delicious. The Rueben here today came with a mayonnaise based cole slaw that sadly overwhelmed the corned beef which didn't have a lot to start with. But, when I tasted the meat away from the cole slaw, it was tasty and the bartender honored my request for lean corn beef. No sauerkraut or Russian dressing as it should have on rye bread. The menu only states "corned beef Rueben" so folks that know a true Rueben have no idea. All the locals really bragged on the food so we definitely will come again to try other menu items. They offer lovely wine selections and limited beer selection. Overall, we really liked it, the bartender was friendly and welcoming. The owner was there but didn't introduce himself. Super cute locals bar. Bathrooms were well stocked, clean as was the restaurant. Come give em a try.
