We tried the lobster and was very disappointed. The entire tail was rubber. My husband spoke with the manager who did apologize and assured us she would adjust the bill. The waitress was wonderful and once we were done with our drinks she brought our bill. There had been no adjustment on the lobster. The waitress then consulted with the manager who gave us $4 off the bill. Unfortunately we paid an obscene price for a couple of claws. This is one of our favorite local places! It's the best hole in the wall oyster bar I've ever been to. In fact, I've lived in Eustis my whole life and didn't even realize it was there until about a year ago. Since then we make sure to go at the very least once a month. I went for my birthday dinner this year and the staff made us feel like family. They let us bring in a homemade birthday cake (which was the size of Texas so we shared with the staff) and even gave me a free t-shirt! The service was awful, the food was alright. I will never return. It took 1 hour and 40 minutes to get our food. I had actually gotten up to tell the waitress to cancel our order when it came out. The shrimp cocktail appetizer came out at the same time as our food. When the food came out I asked for our bill, it took another 20 minutes to get. The cook, who brought our food out actually had to refill our drinks. He told us the entire wait staff was new. Wow. Don't stop here unless your ready to waste a lot of time. read more

This is my favorite restaurant anywhere! We live 30 minutes away but I make hubby take me all the time. Their oysters are the BEST, inexpensive cold beer and mixed drinks, all u can eat specials, bucket specials and just the best food! I have yet to have a single menu item that was not phenomenal. Why are you using Swai fish? This is a very cheap fish....oh that's why you use it! Swai are imported from Asian countries. It may say farm raised but they Are using water pumped in from the Mekong Delta which is one of the filthiest rivers in the world. They mainly come from Vietnam. read more

We arrived 8 minutes after opening, and were the third party there today, Mother's Day. We were very much looking forward to the experience, even though the atmosphere is, at best, dumpy. We weren't acknowledged for a good ten minutes to which the bartender informed us they were short staffed. We watched the bar and restaurant fill up while we waited, and waited, and waited for our food. Everyone around us was being served. At one point, the bartender told us they were waiting on our Oysters Rockefeller--waiting how? As in harvesting them somewhere? After an hour and 15 minutes of dry crackers and even dryer beverages, and several lame excuses later I asked for our bar tab (which I have no idea on earth why we paid that!). The bartender walked away from me in mid sentence. I was being discreet and polite so there was no reason for that behavior whatsoever especially since I suspect she is the one who misplaced our order. Another waitress was much kinder and sympathetic to our situation, and she kept checking with the "manager," who never made an appearance. This was a total, unprofessional, epic failure. We left hungry and disappointed. Took our money down the road to an establishment with a much nicer atmosphere and certainly more attentive, top notch service. I didn't feel like a welcome customer at the Oyster Troff; I felt like an inconvenience. read more

This place just ROCKS!! Do not expect fancy smancy atmosphere, but the place is clean and the owners and help are friendly and likable. Very relaxed and blue collar type of place. I have eaten seafood coast to coast and you just can not beat the quality and pricing. The oysters are always fresh and tasty. The Peel-n-eat shrimp are simply great. Crab legs are steamed not boiled and are a pleasure to eat. Every time I come to town it is a must to go to the Troff. The true definition of Oyster Bar = Oyster Troff. read more

I had a terrible experience. First the map directions lead you to the same street # but on the south end instead of the north end of the street. I sat at the oyster bar. I asked if the steamed seafood/oysters came with real butter or just margarine and was told by the waiter that it was real butter erroneously which I found out from the owner after I had ordered. I ordered a dozen raw, a salad, garlic toast, fried pickles and a bucket of steamed oysters and told the bar waiter that I wanted the raw ones, salad, toast and pickles first in the quickest order as I hadn't eaten all day. I kept waiting and waiting and waiting. And asked several times why I didn't have the dozen raw yet or my salad??? He finally brought me this too nasty to eat salad which I returned because it was old iceberg lettuce with bad bits all throughout and no good veggies on top! No toast! Finally I got the pickles which weren't bad but they give you a very tiny portion for $7.00! And still no toast and no oysters while people that came in after me were getting food. I finally canceled the raw oysters and should have just left...... Because it took an hour and 15 minutes to finally get the steamed oysters which are nasty when dipped in hydrogenated oil that is 1 step from being a plastic. I told the owner that they should have real butter for those that will pay extra; he pretends that that is what his customers want when I know damn well it's a cost issue. It's too bad that so many stupid Americans accept fake poisonous food so that owners like this one can pawn it off. read more

We gave this place many, many tries over the past several years. Our visit in Feb 2017 was the last. Our clueless waitress took forever to do anything. "Butter" is a small bowl of yellow oil. The you-peel-shrimp were flavorless and cooked to look like rubber. Disgusting. And you're expected to dip them in yellow oil "butter". I would go on, but why bother. It's disgusting. We took a bike ride from Ocala to here specifically for Oysters. They were large, fresh, cold, inexpensive, and delicious!!! Service was very good. Ambiance is what you would expect when you go to a place called the Oyster Troff. Kind of old style with the Troff to push your shells into. And the place had that nice salt water seafood smell. As a few other reviews I've read will also say, it can be quite a wait for the food.. And I agree. My parents and I went for dinner on a Sunday, the bar quickly filled up after we arrived & our server seemed to be getting overwhelmed (although she was still very friendly, just frazzled a bit). Now for the reason I'm only giving two stars.. I LOVE you seafood and have eaten a lot of it! I ordered the steamer plate and although it "looked" ok, I have NEVER eaten such bland and borderline tasteless crab legs!! Now it was cooked very well, but literally tastes like it was cooked in plain water? In my experience there's usually SOME sort of seasoning?? My shrimp seemed a bit over-cooked and it looked like someone dumped old bay on them. The only positive thing about my dinner was the clams, also plain but I still enjoyed them! My mom ordered clan strips and she shared a few, that's definitely what I will order next time! The oysters were small due to the season but very tasty. read more

I am soooooo happy I found this place! AWESOME fresh oysters, clams, and dark beer (my fave) on tap!! Just love the casual bar and eclectic atmosphere and the way they serve those fresh oysters (they have it down pat). Fun eating and so laid back. Saw parties coming in and going in back section. This oyster bar is terrific! The oysters are consistently good (raw or lightly steamed), the beer is ice cold and the snow crab is great! Can't vouch for the rest of their food (except the chicken wings which are also super) but this place is where I choose to go for my seafood fix. The WORST service I have ever had!!! We put our order in for 2 dozen oysters, Mahi Mahi and scallops. An hour and 30 minutes later the waitress told us she just dropped our order in and it would be out soon!! The Mahi Mahi and scallops came out and my family was completely finished eating their dinners when the oysters were finally served. We will NEVER go back! My kids go here all the time, But after last Saturday we will never go back!!!! Service is so bad........The lady working behind the bar was so pissed that people where in the place eating. Took 30 mins to get a drink 2 hours to get our food then we still did not get all that we ordered. Just wanted to pay and leave then they brought out the rest of our food and got mad at us because we did not want it at that point. Great place to take a break and chill. Best oysters around, no doubts. My wife and I live in Daytona Beach and out of all the oysters we've had over the past year, none came close to those served at the Troff! First, the oysters are the perfect size (close to large), second, the flavor is saltwater freshness like they just came off the bed and cleaned. What really pleasantly surprised us was what we saw being served around us: folks were having fried oysters (beautiful) lightly breaded and plump, big heaping bowls of fried okra, steamed shrimp and all around excellent serving size plates. The place isn't going to impress most people for interior decorations, which is fine by my wife and I, we would rather have great food than the mediocre tourist food we get in Daytona and surrounding areas inside fancy restaurants. Went here on a Sunday afternoon as part of a large group. Although they'd agreed well ahead of time to accommodate us and knew how many would be coming, the restaurant and waitstaff seemed overwhelmed and surprised by the size of our group. When we arrived, they were quick to bring drinks but extremely slow to serve our orders. When the food finally came, much of it was over-fried to the point of being overly brown and crisp, and (in some cases) burnt. Our original waiter disappeared for almost 30 minutes after bringing our meals, and we had to flag down another waiter to ask for new servings of the burnt food. This waiter was curt and dismissive, and said, "Oh, that food isn't burnt, there was a problem with the oil." Yes, it *was* burnt (and what happened to the customer is always right?). He didn't agree to bring us new french fries until he picked up a fry and was satisfied for himself that it was indeed over-cooked and not just a problem with the cooking oil. But even if it was a problem with the oil (or a malfunctioning fryer, as a waitress later told us), that's no excuse; that food should never been served in the state it was in. He was also dismissive when one of our party complained of a hard plastic piece that was in her fried fish--he claimed it was just a hard piece of batter and took the piece with him. It was actually a very small chunk of plastic or hard cartilage, which she bit down upon while eating. He refused to bring her another order of fish, since it was "only hard batter" and he "couldn't do anything about that." The waitress who brought out our new orders was much more attentive and understanding, but was also clearly overwhelmed by the amount of customers (there were at least 25 other patrons in the Oyster Troff that were not part of our party). While we were finishing our meal, the surly waiter and another restaurant employee loudly complained about the size of our group and the number of patrons in the restaurant to one another while in hearing distance of our party. Some in our party did enjoy their meals, and there were other patrons there who seemed to be enjoying themselves. While the quality of our food ranged from average to tasty (when not over-cooked), the attitude from the majority of the waitstaff was unfriendly and sometimes hostile. The reason this restaurant is getting two stars instead of one is because of the delicious key lime pie, and the one waitress who was attentive and apologetic about the over-cooked food and our MIA waiter. I would not go back to the Oyster Troff; the quality of the food was not enough to balance out the overall poor quality of the customer service we experienced. read more
